So many posts saying us veterans didn’t get anything and new players are getting the core game for free really makes me think how many of you are actually veteran players.

Us veteran players have gotten to experience all the open world events since release with new patches every few weeks. These new players won’t get all that the same way we did even if they get a “bonus” free version with buying HoT.

They won’t hear while afk’ing at the bank in LA the asura and char that say “Your face is funny”, “No, your face is funny. It’s like a little raisin”

They didn’t experience the festival events and seasoned events like we did.

They won’t see LA getting destroyed and how we fought over it while scarlet attacked it.

They won’t get to fight marionette like we did cause that is all gone and done.

They probably won’t see SAB seeing as people still riot about it to this day.

They didn’t get to farm aetherblades in zones and have tons of champs spawning.

Those are just a few examples but so many other open world events that these new players will never experience even if they do get a “Bonus” free version of the core game.

Stop being greedy and thinking its all about new players when new players will have missed out on a ton of content that is no longer available. Veterans have the memories of all that has happened since launch of this game to this date while new players will never experience those events.

RIP raisin kid.

HoT Standard Edition with partial access to Revenant: $50
HoT Standard Edition with garanteed access to Revenant: $60

GW2 launches with 5 slots and 8 professions. World does not end.

HoT adds a profession but not a slot. World ends.

You’ve either lived without having every class in your stable for 3 years, learned to wipe a character and free up a slot when you wanted to try something new, or you’ve bought more character slots in the past. Which is it, and why have you lost that ability all of a sudden?

GW1 launched with 6 professions and 4 character slots. The option to buy more slots didn’t get introduced until after the release of Factions.

@anduriell:
Here you go again … how in the world is power ranger “the only way”? Rangers have been and still do play condition builds with great success. I see nothing that is going to change this and you have provided no reasoning for it.

Stop what? Request that you provide logical reasoning if you’re going to continue spewing garbage on the forums? Provide actual logical reasoning that shows your opinions are unsupported garbage?

You obviously don’t have a clue … look in the Ranger forum history … I’ve been a Ranger around here for years … I’ve even linked some of my old posts to you before from 2013. Yet you still think that people that disagree with you don’t have much experience with Ranger despite having no evidence to support you (as usual) and evidence that counters that thought (that you ignore like everything else).

Feel free to explain how I embarrassed myself while you’re at it. It seems others are, as usual, agreeing with logic I provided.

Condition damage builds have never been viable in PvE due to the current condition mechanics. This may change with the update, but regardless of whether or not it does, Ranger power builds were still hurt by this update.

I’m not sure how I feel about Healing Spring becoming a trap.

On the one hand, it benefits from the new trap trait.

On the other hand, the .5 second arming time means no more instant heal, and not triggering at full health means no more on demand condition removal/water field.

Well, I use that technique, and I’m faster with it than without it. So I guess it works.
Not that I’m a fan of the sword, but still.

For that i’d choose the signet that is still a waste but at least only one utility.

The funny thing about that is that you can switch the signet out for another utility before you enter the fight.

Unless you accidentally click it because that kitten skill swap arrow is so tiny.

Also, that requires actual work and forethought. Who has time for that?

+25% movement speed should be baseline for all classes.

No it oughtn’t.

A baseline trait is what I meant. Warriors, Engineers and Elementalists get it, while everyone else gets to flounder around with wasted utility slots or wasted runes.

I don’t want to run runes of the traveler on my guardian, but if I don’t, I need to have “Retreat!” continuously stapled to one of my utility slots.

Protect Me isn’t as useful as it seems to be. When the pet us soaking up damage for you, it is using your toughness for the damage calculation. So Protect Me is not more than a reliable way of killing your pet as zerker.

It’s useful in PvE to prevent getting OHKO’d by an otherwise unavoidable damage spike. Though, if signet of stone was a stun breaker, I’d never touch that shout again.

I should try to work runes of the traveler into my build so I don’t have to waste a slot for that stupid signet of the hunt.

Annnddd engie and warrior (and i guess the rest of the classes) getting passive traits to improve speed.
Will anet take in consideration my proposal of give passive effects for the pets, for example Signet of the Hunt to the cats, so at least i have a choice?

Rangers can get perma-swiftness from shouts.

Engineer has no more perma-swiftness.

:3

Ranger shouts are all garbage tier though.

It still doesn’t solve the wasted utility slot either. You either waste a utility slot to bring signet of the hunt, or you waste a utility slot and a trait to achieve the same result.

+25% movement speed should be baseline for all classes.

@Quarktastic Thanks, but the number of buttons is not the issue, it is my physical inability to press enough of them at once. That is why I needed to know about whether macros were allowed for very simply combinations, like dodge+left.

@Palador I was actually just wondering whether pedals for strafing or something could work, thanks for the suggestion

Assuming your right hand is still perfectly functional, (you only made mention of your left hand being injured) you should have no difficulty pressing 2-3 mouse buttons at once or in quick succession.

For strafing: if your mouse wheel has a tilt function, you can use that.

Edit: Also, a “destroy” command for Spirit. I recall someone posting about wanting that since they can’t move to force a reset mid-combat. Pop that active and reset it!

The problem with the destroy command: Anet decided to give every spirit a 30 second cooldown, instead of the current 20 second cooldown.

@Coulter I think you may be misunderstanding my intentions. The intention of the thread was to try, as far as possible, to get to the bottom of what is already known (and what is not known) about the specific fine details of the macro policy, so asking about details seems reasonable.

I’m not trying to ‘get around’ the policy, I just want to be clear what it actually is, because it effects whether I can play or not. I don’t want anyone to say “it’s okay because you’ve argued your case”. If I seem to be asking about the fine print, it’s because that’s exactly what the pupose of this thread was. If the fine print isn’t publicly available, then there’s my answer.

I’m also not being picky for fun. I already have several gaming mice – that alone is not sufficient for me to simulate having two good hands without the help of a few macros. I’m asking about the details because I literally can’t play otherwise. I wanted to find out what what is considered acceptable, and we appear to have achieved that as far as possible.

I will attempt to play without macros by being creative with a gaming mouse, and if it isn’t possible then I’ll just have to put GW2 on the pile of games I can’t play. Presumeably as someone who enjoys the game yourself you can understand my disappointment, and my wanting to see if anyone knew what the rules actually are.

Thanks for taking the time to answer.

Most MMO style gaming mice have 12 programmable side buttons to work with, along with the standard mouse button fare. It should be more than possible with no macros whatsoever.

Depends on the encounter. I don’t exactly know which encounter you speak of, but for the most part, you can res a downed ally at max res range and use them as a body block for incoming attacks for a safe res. Again, situation varies, but more times than not, using PBS to “save” a teammate in PVE is still a bad move.

Using it to strip defiance is the only time PBS should be used, but I find that if a the party has a decent thief, more times than not, it can mess things up if a thief does multiple Headshots and you PBS in the same time frame – resetting the defiance stacks.

Been in a group where there was a hammer Warrior (lol) used their CC while the thief did the exact amount of headshots to break off the remaining defiance to setup a deep freeze. Even though I was using Sword the entire fight, I still got the blame for using PBS. kitten ed if you do, kitten ed if you don’t!

I use “Protect Me” and/or Signet of Stone to res downed allies in PvE.

Crafting materials are about the most useful things monsters drop, but without a reliable method of farming specific materials, it becomes more efficient to farm gold, and buy the materials/finished item from the trading post.

I’d be highly surprised if it were. It looks like a limited item made especially as a prize for people that made good apps. Though on a much lesser scale, having it be tradeable would be like letting Oscar winners sell their trophy to someone else who could then claim to be the Oscar winner him or herself.

Step 1) Put Oscar for sale on EBay
Step 2) People bid on Oscar
Step 3) Someone has highest bid
Step 4) New Oscar winner

If you have an Oscar, and wish to sell it, you are obligated to first offer to sell it back to the Academy for the sum of $1. You’re not going to be listing your Oscar on Ebay, but people do sell them on the black market.

In 40+ fractals, you’re pretty much required to keep a ranged weapon on swap anyway, as Stack ’n spank tactics will get you instakilled in some situations.

Dungeons need to be more like fractals. Spam 1 in melee range with 0 defense shouldn’t be an effective tactic.

i don’t think it was confirmed anywhere that air combat is a thing.

it would be a bit OP though, because you can’t be ground targeted if you’re not on the ground, and you can’t be melee’d. plus, it would trivialize WvW defenses (why upgrade a wall if the enemy will just fly over it).

zerg v zerg is so boring in wvw just hammer the gate down and rush in

thus bring more options to defend like arrow cart which if hit put holes in you glide and boom you are falling down dead

just imagine zerg gliding 50% of them falling from the air

amazing fights it will bring to boring zerg v zerg fight

what part of “can’t ground target because they’re in the air” did you miss? you can’t hit them with an AC because you can’t aim the AC at them.

Just commission the charr to build some anti-air guns. Problem solved.

Im curious how they have solved that backbar swapping. From a logic point of view every channel (assuming reve has f1-4) will get a different backbar that should have their own cd on these skills just like ele wep skills. At this point does it mean they get access to 4 healing and elite skills in combat? That actually sounds crazy op.

Also description saying that for example they become tanky frontliners while channeling Jalix makes little sense to me. How utilities can cover it unless along with utilities there are some passive buffs like dmg reduction by 25%?

Sry if im not clean enough but im too tired. Bed time.

Actually it’s been stated in multiple interviews that they are inspired off the lumi armor collections and mawdrey, both of which didn’t require items like that. The collected items will likely be new account-bound ones.

The luminescent armor collections are incredibly grindy. Especially if you don’t have multiple characters to repeat the story for more carapace boxes. If the former is any indication of the latter, it’ll probably just be faster/easier to grind out the gold to buy your precursor.

The problem I have with outfits is: They’re all or nothing. It only affects me in that my asura can no longer wear his extremely handsome top hat along with his fancy winter outfit. I can only imagine what it’s like for players who used to mix and match the town clothes that are now tonics.

In my opinion, the outfit/tonic approach overly complicates a supposedly simple system. All town clothes should have been changed into armor skins instead of their current implementations.

Tomes Cooldowns simple solution

in Guardian

Tomes need something to make them more desirable than renewed focus, and it’s not a cooldown reduction. Both tomes need something to make it easier to get their skills off.

Currently, it’s too easy to lock down a tome user, because:

  • Tomes do not grant stability
  • You are unable to move while channeling most of the tomes’ important skills (full heal, group quickness, damage wave, etc.)

I would argue against tomes granting stability for their duration, and instead allow all tome skills to be cast while moving, and add active defensive skills to the tomes themselves.

I hope y’all enjoy paying 3+ silver per sprocket. Because that’s where this situation is headed.

Edit: I take back some of what I said. The pick still gives sprockets when mining T5 and T6 nodes. However: I received no sprockets when mining platinum nodes ~8 nodes mined, and no sprockets when mining the quartz and candy corn nodes in my home instance. So I still believe the pick was nerfed to some degree. (It used to reward sprockets when mining all nodes)

Double Edit: The pick still rewards sprockets from platinum nodes. It seems that what I experienced was a bizarre bit of bad RNG luck.

Will berserker gear become refundable?

This change isn’t going to affect the meta at all. Berserker gear will still be the king of PvE. As long as GW2 focuses on active defenses like blocks, blinds, and dodge rolls, defensive stats will be more of a hindrance than help.

Frakkin' Champ Risen Knight!

I used to solo that champ regularly as both a guardian and a ranger. All you need to do is lure it into the open, keep your distance, and don’t stand in the fire. It has a very obvious tell before each of its dive attacks.

Why Do We Hate Rangers?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Three words: Point. Blank. Shot.

I should also mention I’m primarily a PvE player and play a lot of fractals and dungeons, where stacking both the party and the mobs is standard. I see far too many bearbow rangers that love to just hit all their skills regardless of what’s going on, and PBS just loves to knock enemies out of all of the carefully stacked AoE, or out of range of the melee classes, etc.

It’s supremely frustrating, but it’s more to do with PvE content not challenging the average Ranger to become a better player before this point in the game.

This. 1000X this. Even if rangers get everything else fixed and improved, I will still not want rangers in my groups if Point Blank Shot doesn’t get fixed.

If by “fixed” you mean: “point blank shot is no longer a knockback,” I disagree. Point blank shot is fine.

It’s funny how much everyone hates on point blank shot, but completely ignore skills like:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Knockback
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Launch

All of the skills listed in those categories are equally irritating when used improperly. (For the record, I have never once seen a mesmer use Illusionary wave properly)

Illusionary wave needs a much closer range, has a twice as long cooldown, and doesn’t knock the opponent as far as point blank shot. There is no equivalent to point blank shot in range, cooldown, and distance. It is a ridiculous skill that does not contribute to group play at all. The skill needs to be fixed.

Iwave has the same range as the original point blank shot. It also knocks back 5 targets instead of one. Gust knocks an enemy back 400 units (the same distance as a max range point blank shot), and has a range of 1200 (the same as point blank shot traited with eagle eye.)

None of them are as spammable as point blank shot, but the AoE knockbacks like Iwave and shield of absorption are far more irritating when used incorrectly. Point blank shot is a perfectly fine skill. Nerfing either the knockback or the cooldown will make the already undesirable longbow even less desirable.

Exactly, in order to compare Point Blank Shot, you have to cherry pick the situations. The problem is that while some of the other knockback skills have good range or distance (none have a good cooldown), Point Blank Shot has all of them. Point Blank Shot at its worst is still better than Gust.

Seriously? “same range as the original point blank shot”? What does that even mean? 5 targets vs 1 target doesn’t matter to groups when their target is knocked out of range. At least Iwave is useful for grouping enemies. You won’t see Iwave used as often because of its short range and high cooldown.

You may have had some experience with other classes frustrating you with their knockbacks, but Point Blank Shot is still the most complained about because of its range, distance, and spammability. Other knockbacks just aren’t as prevalent as Point Blank Shot. The longbow remains the most common weapon used by rangers and Point Blank Shot is the most annoying skill for group play. It needs to be addressed if Rangers want a role in groups.

Iwave is 600 range, point blank shot was 600 range before being buffed to 900 range. And if you’ve nothing bad to say about Iwave, then you’ve never played in the same group as some of the mesmers I’ve had the unfortunate pleasure of encountering. Mesmers in lane 5 of the marionette were especially fun. Nothing like hitting the boss with an Iwave and pushing all of its copies everywhere.
