I want to see more fluid melee weapons, a more informative pet UI, more responsive pet AI, and a few more quality of life improvements.

What I don’t want to see is more Maul buffs. Anet, if you’re going to buff the greatsword, I have a tip for you: Maul is not the problem skill that needs buffing.

This new skill will most likely:

  • Heal for the same or less than Healing Spring
  • Not heal our pets
  • Not generate a water field

So, unless this new “toxin” condition is too dangerous to ignore, and can only be cleansed by this new skill (the most likely scenario) I won’t be using it.

Needing 10,000 of single item not grindy?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Quarktastic.1027

Saying 10,000 items needs more context. There is a difference between 10,000 really easy items to obtain that one can get 5000 in 8 hours of gaming, compared to 10,000 hard items to get that you can only get 100 in 8 hours of gaming. So need more context in this regard.

Can someone please answer the one above. Really need the context in all of this.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Candy_Corn_Cob
which you need 15 of to get
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Halloween_Pail
20 of to get
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mini_Bloody_Prince_Thorn
and feel free to take a look at all the other mats for those Cob recipes in the first link…they require 10 of a 1000 collection of rare drops (nougat, fangs, skulls) for a total of 10,000 of those, plus 10,000 candy corn.

(as an aside, this is all total bull to me.)

OH AND I FORGOT, LOL.

That’s just to get the recipe to make them. To make the actual weapon,
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gift_of_Souls

ok? but that doesn’t answer my question at all. 10,000 of one item that is very easy to get is way different then 10,000 of one item that is not easy to get. I want to know how easy and common are the candy corns? All I know is I have 320 candy corns, and I spent something like 15 minutes in the labyrinth and that is all I have done related to the halloween event, and I didn’t even mine any of the candy corns. So I am asking in general how often these things actually drop. For 6.8 Gold you can buy 10,000, which is telling me these things actually drop really often.

If you can buy 10,000 candy corn for 6.8g, then I’m the king of Kryta.

I really wanted a mini Prince Edrick to commemorate this year’s Halloween event, But the cost is beyond absurd. One stack of candy corn would have been too easy, four stacks would have been acceptable, but 80 stacks is downright ridiculous. I’ve never collected 80 stacks of anything, even in GW1 (where I would fill my inventory to the brim with holiday goodies each year). Just the idea of needing 80 stacks of an item to trade for another item is so mind boggling, I can’t help but feel like GW2 was made in Korea.

When are ranger pet names going to be saved?

in Ranger

Posted by: Quarktastic.1027

Quarktastic.1027

“The answer is probably never, it’s a limitation of how ANET implemented the pet database.”

They can hold it on a local file and send it to the server when you log on or switch pets. Players can already change the name on the client and it gets sent it to the server so you wouldn’t have thought there would be any problem here at all.

But this solution makes sense. Anet would never dare to do anything like that.

Joke of the year!

I finally got around to modeling thief, which gives me a full DPS tier list, and it looks like this:

Max buffed, from best to worst:

Mesmer (Sw/Sw with 3 phantasms) = ~15k
Thief (D/D backstab) = ~13.5k
Elementalist (fire staff or LH) = ~13k
Guardian (GS+Sword) = ~11k
Necromancer (D/F+WH with all minions) = ~11k
Warrior (Axe+GS) = ~10k
Ranger (Sword and Feline pet) = ~9.5k
Engineer (Grenades) = ~9k

Not when you have mesmers dropping 10k crits every 15 seconds. Or elementalists dropping 15k fire grabs. Or, well any class really. The only class I can think of that can’t out burst a ranger is the engineer, and perhaps the necromancer.

Quarktastic.1027

Because the thought of minions being able to do burning damage, 10% increased damage, gain swiftness and/or protection does seem strong to me.

It’s not strong, and you can’t even control which allies get your spirits’ buffs. Buffs prioritize players over minions anyway, so unless you’re with fewer than 4 other people, none of the minions you summon will get any sort of buff from your spirits.

Why is this class so terrible?

in Ranger

Posted by: Quarktastic.1027

Quarktastic.1027

Because Anet for all their talk about being different decided to follow the well-worn path of the fantasy archer trope. They always have to have some beast companion, well that’s great and all all but it’s always a pain in videogames.

It wasn’t until WoW that the “woodsman/archer with his/her trusty <insert animal> companion” trope came into popularity. So I guess it’s Blizzard’s fault.

No. Sorry. Pets for rangers has far predated WoW. It is a major point on the D&D 3.0/3.5 ranger and a minor point on the AD&D ranger. Don’t blame that on WoW. There is plenty of better thing to blame on WoW that are actually accurate.

Blizzard brought the trope to the MMO scene. I believe I said “popularity,” which may have been a bit vague. Before WoW, the aforementioned trope was practically nonexistent in MMOs. Now virtually every MMO in production uses it to some degree.

How Legendaries Should Have Been

Quarktastic.1027

Totally agree with this post.
In short, by just playing all the contents in this game does not make one legendary, grinding does. One must also be bloody lucky.

Would also like to add something.
Making use of all the tokens introduced in this game for legendary would also be a good idea. Eg. Pristine Fractal Relic or did ANET forgot this token existed?

His solution is just as grindy as the current method. Only difference is, his method doesn’t let you choose where and how you want to grind.

How is my solution grindy? At all?

It’s doing all the content in the game. And for mats, you can either do whatever you want and buy them or gather them yourself. Levels are the same: Do whatever you want.

How the heck did you get “grindy” from that?

- World Completion: 100% the world. (already in)
- Dungeon Master: All dungeons cleared, no wipe. There would now be a “Master” mode to all dungeon paths, resetting the dungeon if your group wiped. You would have to complete all of these for the Dungeon Master requirement.
- World Boss Completion: Must have participated and defeated all world bosses.
- Cleansing of Orr: Have cleared all Temples in Orr at some point, and be present in Orr when all temples are cleansed.
- Fractal Master: Achieve a high level in Fractals of the Mists. (Considering I have never participated in high-level fractals, it would be foolish of me to propose an arbitrary number. Something high, but not impossible. If that’s max level, then it’s max level)
- Master of Agility: Completed all Jump Puzzles.
- World Guardian: Completed a high number of WvW objectives and earned a high number of badges of honor.

All of this can be considered grind. Worse yet, you just tacked this process on to stuff you already need to do to get a legendary, i.e. grind lots of T6 mats and skill points. It sounds like you want legendary weapons to be even more of a grind than they already are.

Sneak across at Crippled Bridges, its toward the northern section of the map and can be found if you simply swim along the shoreline of the Orrian side. I got across when nearly every single way point was contested and NO events were even spawning to give players a shot at grouping and crossing (Dragonbrand servers aren’t the best for group tasking anyways IMHO). There isn’t a gate to impede your progress, just use some simple creative maneuvering and distractions and you can run right into the encampment across the straights that stays uncontested giving you a backdoor access place to spawn and progress forward on your campaign.

I did this run as a turret based level 70 Engineer build with NO speed augmentations or buffs of any kind. Just turret tossed distractions

Game is beyond boring...

Yet the game is still a success for you. Since you have played the game, and tried out all content (I assume).

How many hours is that? 60+?

money well spent i would say. Worse games out there that only give 5 hours total game time and sell for $60.

I played about 3000 hours of GW2, and I can happily say I should’ve spent my money on a game that would’ve given me 5 hours of gameplay. That game would’ve left me with some type of happy ending or a fulfillment of playing.

Guild Wars 2 was fun for the first few hours until I hit 80 and then the fun just slowly dissipated until it vanished and was replaced with work. No feeling of fulfillment. No feeling of joy. No feeling of accomplishment.

3000 hours? This games been out, what, ~400 days?

3000hours/400day = 7.5 hours a day? 52 hours a week. No wonder why you’re burned out, you play longer than most people work.

(400×24)÷3000=3.2 hrs daily. That seems more manageable than 7.5 hrs daily. Even so I would be bored too if I played this game daily even for that amount of time. No wonder your burned out and feel like it’s a job. TAKE A BREAK!

That was actually supposed to be 2000 hours. My bad.

Still, 5 hours a day is more than your average part time job. My suggestion, TAKE A BREAK! It might do you some good.

400 days.
24 hours are in a day.
400 × 24 = 9, 600 hours available in 400 days
This player has 3,000 hours logged
9, 6000 ÷ 3,000 = 3.2 hours

Dividing 3, 000 by 400 gives you 7.5 but doesn’t add in the fact that each day contains 24 hrs.

3.2 doesn’t add up to 3,000. I’m missing something in my proration, true, but I’m not sure what.

There are 9600 hours in 400 days. 3000 of those hours were spent on GW2. 3000/9600 is 31.25% or 0.3125. 31.25% of one day is 7.5 hours.

So your equation looks like: 3000/(400×24) 24. Ultimately it’s just easier to use the equation: Hours/Days.

I think there’s something wrong with your math. 3.2 hours/day comes out to 1280 hours played over 400 days. When you’re calculating hours/day, you take the total number of hours played, and divide it by the total number of days played. What you did was…actually I have no idea what you did.

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

World 1 completion on normal mode gives 7 bauble bubbles. 1 bauble bubble is 5 continue coins. 1 continue coin is 5 lives. World 1 completion gives you 175 lives once per day. Then you could trade in baubles if you wanted to to get more bauble bubbles. And it’s possible to complete trib mode without dying so…

I see where you’re coming from, but it still doesn’t really justify using lives in trib mode. Do you remember ANet’s we-don’t-want-players-to-farm-policy? So using the argument that you can farm lives in normal mode is basically a wrong argument in this context.

[Merged] Your opinions of the LFG tool

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Quarktastic.1027

I want give you a bit feedback from today dear devs:-)

I am glad you add LFG tool but it need much mure feature before majority of players starts prefer it before gw2lfg.com

I tried today make a speed run party, I was very specific what I looking for (level, gear, ect) a must kick about 20 people what are I dont know.. lets say were too casual to understand what I want in description. I also feel bad for that kicking because its wrong.

So here is list of features what may prevent this misunderstandings (lets say it will be some checklist what dont allow players without those specifications even see party offer in roster):
- Level restriction
- Class restriction
- Gear rarity and stat type restriction
- Let party creator see players gear and build (like in SPvP)

Also instead of creating party and waiting for players to join make something like list of currently avaible players. Player fit some quick description and wait till someone pick him from the list. Also some system to rate players by other players will be great it learn some people behave better.

I have the solution to all your problems: Lower your expectations.

I know, it’s radical and scary and you don’t want to, but it’s sometimes necessary to get things done. Dungeons in GW2 are so brainlessly simple that you don’t need things like gear checks and specific classes to do speed runs. Shocking I know.

Four new bank tabs! -.-

Quarktastic.1027

Regardless of your view on hoarding, more bank tabs is not the solution for mats that pile up past 250, nor a solution for account bound skins that are being thrown at us every two weeks.

Adding more tabs and/or creating a guild bank is not a correct/proper fix. Those are temp fixes.

And apparently anet has previously commented that they are looking into a solution for the skins and have half developed the ability to allow us to hold more than 250 in mat slots. ANET themselves view it as an issue that needs a fix, so arguing other wise at this point is just silly. I’m really annoyed by the people blindly accusing others of hoarding to much and needing to come up with other sub-par fixes.

I consider myself a hoarder. In every game I have ever played, I would collect everything there was to collect. And yet, in each game, I was able to manage my ridiculous inventory needs without petitioning anyone for more storage.

Currently, I have two bank tabs, and one mule character. I have yet to run out of space. I would like to see more storage options, but I don’t see them as necessary. Inventory management is a very important skill, both in-game, and in real life. Some people in this thread just need to pick up on it.

After the wallet upgrade, if you’re managing to completely fill up 12 bank tabs, you need to seriously reevaluate what you think is worth keeping.

The wallet doesn’t hold mats, that’s what the collections and bank tabs are for.

Then…use your mats as you need them? I don’t see the allure in stockpiling stacks upon stacks of mats “just in case” or “I’m waiting for the price to go up so I can make bank.”

I guess you didn’t read a previous post by me explaining WHY I collect mats, if you had this post wouldn’t be up and I’m not going to repeat myself, go back a few replies.

If the mats are for your guildmates, there’s a guild bank for that. Perhaps you should petition your guildmates to make some space for your generous services.

This is a free MMO.

You paid $60 for far more content than a single player game of equivalent price would provide…

Skyrim and it’s countless free mods say hello.

Far more shallow content than a single player game like GTA V

I wasn’t aware that GTA V was anything more than another generic sandbox in a giant sea of samey pseudo-realistic sandboxes.

As for Skyrim, I find it to be even more shallow than GW2. Not to mention, the Elder Scrolls series has degraded to a level of difficulty where you have to actively try to fail in order to lose.

No "Dark" Environments in Guild Wars 2

I posted something like this a while back..but I called it “grit” instead of dark.

The game lacks the realism to make you afraid. You’re always aware you’re playing a game. I’d hoped this game would have been more immersive than it is, but several design decisions conspired against that. Frankly I’m beginning to run out of hope that anyone will ever make an immersive MMO.

Why must everything be dark, gritty and realistic to be immersive? What happened to games like Okami and Shadow of the Colossus? Games that could be immersive and captivating without the dark and gritty realism.

I used to run CoE like it was a second job. I know subject alpha better than the devs. There is only one attack that you absolutely need to avoid, and if you’re running out of endurance during the fight, then you need more vigor and/or endurance regen food. The amount of DPS your group does shouldn’t ever affect your ability to survive an encounter. I have soloed subject alpha on more than one occasion, as a guardian, in full knight’s gear.

Actually, I get the feeling you don’t, because there are at least 3 attacks you need to dodge, or you’ll have a bad time…

Big ring filled with ice. Big ring with icy fog. Dragon’s tooth.

Miss any of those and you’ll have a really bad time.

I wonder how much of his hp you solo’ed though, because I heard getting crystalled is fun and avoidable when solo’ing him…

Pack him into a corner, and you only have to dodge the ice circle. You don’t get the dragon’s tooth in melee range.

I soloed all of his HP. Stability will prevent the crystal from trapping you, but it won’t free you once you’re trapped. Teleport skills will remove you from the crystal. Well timed stability/teleports and the crystals are no problem.

Path 1 alpha is the easiest though, since you don’t need to dodge once you get him into a corner. Even my ranger was able to solo him, by letting my pet break the crystals. My guardian has soloed path 2 alpha from 100% HP, and path 3 alpha from about 50%. Path 3 alpha is arguably the hardest to solo, because the crystals come down more frequently.

This is a free MMO.

You got your copy of GW2 for free? Lucky. Most of us had to pay at least $40 for it ($60 before the price cut and, obviously, a lot more for those who got the Digital Deluxe or Collector’s Editions).

Why hello there Mr. Strawman. So very nice to see you again.

You paid $60 for far more content than a single player game of equivalent price would provide. Complaining that it “isn’t really free” may be true, but after a year of playing, have you not received your money’s worth?

Considering I only join “experienced only” groups I generally assume people know what they’re doing, so why should I play around not expecting feedback? I mean if they were ranging then sure, I’ll just ignore them and fend for myself, but if we were to full melee and finish phase 1, I’d expect a feedback.

So, you choose to not dodge expecting the mesmer to cast feedback, then complain when you die because you chose to not dodge. That’s not the smartest way to approach an encounter.

I don’t think you know what you’re talking about. The whole point of the pull at the start is to lump the silvers and the turret with each other so you can cleave them down. If you can’t cleave, it means you soak up damage from the fire fields and they die slower, so more things have a chance of going wrong.

Protip: Don’t stand in the fire. I have never been in a CoF group that wiped at the very first pull. If you have, then you had a bad group. No amount of strategy, reflects, or cleaves can save you from a bad group.

…where did I claim to be pro at anything? And sure, you should play better, but you can’t always dodge everything. For example I was in CoE in a low DPS group today, was doing perfectly fine at alpha (well… they were faceplanting) and I had no endurance left. Whirlwind was on cooldown too. Oops, I died. Well there was physically nothing I could do.

I used to run CoE like it was a second job. I know subject alpha better than the devs. There is only one attack that you absolutely need to avoid, and if you’re running out of endurance during the fight, then you need more vigor and/or endurance regen food. Roles still exist though. Just because the game doesn’t assign them for you doesn’t mean they don’t exist.

The “roles” you seem so fond of mentioning, are more like tasks.

“pull the mobs and turrets together so we can cleave them”
“drop feedback when lupicus uses his projectile attack”

These are not roles.

Require EVERYONE to Skip Cutscenes

If I want to watch a cutscene, I watch the cutscene. Your solution isn’t solving anything. You’d still be skipping cutscenes because you “don’t want to hold them back.”

If you didn’t skip the cutscene, you’d be forcing everyone else to watch it with you. The current method of delivering cutscenes is perfectly fine, and certainly a major improvement over the system in GW1.

Regarding ascended weapons

in Guardian

Guardian has plenty of weapon choices but it actually only needs four of them to be ascended: greatsword, sword, scepter, and either shield or focus. The other weapons are bad for DPS and you really don’t need to get ascended for them just for the extra 5% damage. The actual stat difference on them is extremely marginal in terms of overall DPS as well.

Compared to most of the other professions, 4 DPS-viable weapons is a lot, but it’s not really excessive. Ascended mats are easy to get anyway other than Dragonite, which is dumb and should be taken out.

I thought hammers have better sustained damage than GS or is that another myth?

The only time a hammer has better sustained damage is when it’s striking 5 targets.

theres a reason world 1 was a success and world 2 isnt

dying every minute or two in world 2 is just frustrating beyond imagination… i quit trying and never came back.

I am someone that completed every jumping puzzle in pve and could manage to beat the halloween clocktower puzzle with 80% success rate. But SAB world 2 is just a big mess and failure… I applaud for them for trying, but seriously… they need to rework the difficulty.

I found world 2 to be relatively easy once I figured out the correct path.

Did I use a lot of continue coins the first time through? About 20. But now I’ve got continue coins falling out of my pockets.

I would like to see each world boss get its own unique looking ascended weapons. But of course such a thing is too much work for anet. So maybe increase the drop rate of ascended weapon boxes. Some of us don’t want to spend 100g to level each new crafting discipline to 500.

The new Tequatl is akin to a raid boss in other MMOs. It requires a level of organization, communication, and cooperation that is extremely difficult to get from 80+ random people.

The new Tequatl is a fight designed for large guild groups being overseen by multiple commanders on voice chat.

1. I thought it was pretty obvious I meant that you had a mesmer in the group and were waiting for the feedback.

Protip: Don’t wait, dodge. If the mesmer does drop feedback, whether you dodged or not won’t matter. And before you go complaining about wasting endurance (because you will) I will say this: Vigor. And/or endurance regen food.

2. Except those two silvers and the two turrets actually hurt quite a lot if you can’t burst them down quickly. They even hurt if you pull them and they put the fire fields up on to where you’re standing. Dodging out of the fields can just screw up your positioning so you aren’t cleaving the two mobs and turret.

This has never been a problem for anyone except really bad zerker groups who don’t know how to dodge.

3. Lack of DPS causes wipes all the time. It’s what tends to happen when you run berserker in a PUG full of pvt, they can’t kill anything fast enough and you can’t sustain your evades long enough so you die. Sure, if you’re all berserker you can (…literally) clear a dungeon naked just with weapons and trinkets, but unless you’re on the top of your game, in a low DPS situation against a boss, their attacks will most likely end up killing you once you slip up, unless it’s something as faceroll as the effigy in CoF p1 where probably the only thing stopping you from killing it is the regen.

If you’re dying in berserker gear, either don’t use berserker gear or learn to play better. Relying on the rest of your group to burst down the boss before it can kill you doesn’t make you pro.

There are roles in the game, they’re just not as “if you don’t have this, you can’t do this content” as a trinity MMO, which is a good thing.

The roles in GW2 are so loosely defined that calling them “roles” doesn’t really fit. Highly organized groups can assign roles, but roles aren’t necessary to complete any content. GW2 is really an “every man for himself” game. If you die, 99% of the time, it was your own fault.

Sometimes I feel like I’m the only person who just doesn’t give a kitten about ascended weapons. I don’t even care about ascended trinkets either. Hell, my guardian still has a green back piece from his personal story.

If I happen to get an ascended weapon as a drop, that’s fine. But I won’t go out of my way to craft one.

What, are you worried your bad build with non-berserker will get you booted from dungeons?

I would seriously love for ANet to introduce a gear checker, I ask for gear pings anyway when I’m not in a hurry, it just means that people can’t lie and ping a set in their inventory or use the code anymore.

The game is full of elitism already too, just see how every third post of a berserker user on this forum gets replied to with “blahblah elitist”.

If you’re already a good player, you can get away with running berserker gear.

If you aren’t a good player, running around in berserker won’t magically make you a better player.

I personally don’t run berserker gear for anything. I’ve never needed it, and I can still run dungeons with the best of them. Anyone asking people to ping gear gets an automatic blacklist from me.
