I remember he aetherblade cache in Vexa’s lab. I wanted to run the puzzle, but got asked not to because people were farming the cache and didn’t want to be kicked from the puzzle when it reset. So I sat down and farmed the cache with them. But once I got my 50 kills I went ahead and finished the puzzle.

Get a Guardian. Provide AoE stability. Throw down Reflection Walls. Use Pulls. ??? Profit.
Now try doing that from the bottom of the well. It’s virtually impossible to target someone at the top, much less pull them over the side. Reflection and stability do help, but depending on the composition of classes at the top, you can expect to lose 60% or more of your force trying to reach a position where you can even hit the opposition.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
It is not. If the current log in screen was the beta screen and vice versa, you’d be asking why the beautiful landscape background was removed and how much better the old one was.
It happens all the time in video games. It’s not really the login screen that you like, it’s the ego involved that matters, and that people want what they don’t have.
Why was this feature removed? It’s so much better than what we have now!
Why was this idea scrapped? It’s so much better than the current one!
This fan made content is awesome! The game is balanced now, the devs could take a few lessons from this guy!
That screen was the launcher, not the character select screen. And while the current launcher is practical, I very much prefer the look of the beta launcher, despite never playing in the beta.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Bolt, it’s so much cooler. Seriously Moot? it’s a freaking disco ball.
There is no feeling quite like the feeling you get when you thwack someone upside the head with a disco ball, accompanied by the sound of fireworks.
To the OP: Flip a coin.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
What are you supposed to do?
Oh, I suppose kill them?
Oh the woes of being bad at pvp.
When the opposing side has 5-10 players camped at a hard to reach choke point -like the top of the well- it doesn’t matter if you’re a god among PvP players. You will get mercilessly stomped. Bringing friends doesn’t help either, due to the nature of the obsidian sanctum choke points being brainlessly easy to defend while offering no counter play.
There are no alternate routes. There are no counter strategies. The only thing you can do is throw bodies at the front gate until someone gets through. This form of PvP is neither fun, nor engaging. If your server controls the well, or the arena, or any of the other choke points, you own the puzzle. And wrenching control of these points away from whoever controls them is nearly impossible.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
There is a mistake about cats & birds, I think.
Cats strike twice much faster, but with a single hit. Birds strike twice less faster, but 2 hits each time.
Cats is squishier than birds, birds got more vitality.Upon further review, Birds have the exact same stats as cats. The only differences is that while cats attack faster, birds make up for it by doing doublestrikes, putting them in a higher DPS range, while having a smaller HP pool.
I still don’t really trust either of them, personally.
Cats have higher DPS than birds due to:
*Having a faster attack speed. Birds deal more damage per hit, but cats attack much faster.
*Birds have a swiftness skill with a 3 second channel that deals no damage, and gets used automatically every 20 seconds.
Birds still have better burst than cats, but cats will deal more damage over time.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Is not half as practical as WoR or Feedback, the area is too small, and it can’t be casted on a group of mobs incoming to the group, and it compromises the ranger.
Neither can wall of reflection, unless the guardian takes consecrated ground.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
When someone drags a train of mobs to me, I kill them all, then silently thank the person for the free loot. Open world PvE is too easy to complain about.
I also never afk at stupid spots. I use my handy hall of monuments portal stone, or I jump into the mists.

I like it. Since anet insists on shoving these things down my throat with every single achievement reward, I wouldn’t mind being able to do something productive with them.

I always said MF gear was a waste of stats. Nice to see anet finally agreeing with me. Sorry guys.

I use a longbow in dungeons. I also never use a one handed sword.
Before answering, some questions:
Do you have greatsword?
Do you use berzerker stats?
What pets do you use?
Yes.
No.
Whatever suits my fancy, but mostly drakes.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Especially when you go dungeons, fotm. Don’t be a “I have a bear and play LB”-burden. It’s a pain for the whole group.

Do you find Pleasure in belittling, Insulting and Humiliation someone who can’t write correct “english” at your “level”?
Shame
Seriously!
The Op had already excused his/her grammer, but instead of providing some word of encouragment of suggestions, thoughts and reasoning, you choose to delightfuly attack his/her weakness.
Even at the end, you supposely stated the OP had already admited his/her english grammer, you continued your enjoyment of sadism.
Quite Cruel
Don’t you think?
This whole topic is troll bait, and I’m sure you know it.
Trolls attract trolls.

The OP’s post actually makes me like what this new content did to the game. here is a fight that would otherwise not take place that is happening because of content. If you step into WvW or like it at all, this is the EXACT reason you do it. You do it for fights like this.
You do it to camp choke points and gank players who have no interest in fighting back?
I’ll never understand why humans find this fun.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Ehh…I was looking at the picture underneath it.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I think I ran with you once in the molten weapons facility. You died a lot.

As punishment, Anet will add 1000 of these to his home instance.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Hi Anet!
This is a request from a Role-player… and I think its a really simple one…. Please allow us to have un-instanced access to the Home areas in the major cities!!
I don’t think it would take too much effort. All that would be required (For some areas) is to Just remove the Doors blocking the entrance to the area, and let us walk past the “Enter this Instance.” This would allow us to stay in the open world, and have access to some areas that are really great for Role-playing.
try D&D neverwinter it was made by fans with the support of a staff. For players by players free to play mmoprg with unlimited user added content dungeons, and dungeon editors etc. It’ feels way to much like D&D as your creating your character, but the game play is HIGH paced action packed and really fun. If they had the kind of resources arenanet did for gw2 it would be getting a lot more hype than it is now.
For example, the Hospital in Salma District, the Farhar in Hero’s Canton, or the lab equipment in Applied Development Lab…Please, this would make RPing in the cities so much better, open and inclusive if we didn’t have to go into instances just to visit these areas. It would also have ZERO negative effect on anyone in the game.
i’ll be brutally honest here. the vast majority of MMO companies don’t care about roleplayers whatsoever. oh sure, they’ll say that they do, but they’re flat out lying to our faces. they have to keep up appearances, so that RPers will keep forking over cash, so they give us a tiny handful of nonsensical emotes and then ignored entirely for the rest of the game’s lifespan. and GW2 is the perfect example of that pattern. we’re in a fantasy setting, and given dances from modern pop culture, and a few other basic emotes. chairs don’t work. beds don’t work. the home instance never worked properly, and has been ignored entirely. guild housing, put into the “maybe” pile (by “maybe” i mean, don’t hold your breath)
asking for anything that will benefits roleplayers is a lost cause. at best, they’ll say “we really do care about RPers!” and then….. nothing. they’ll even send a representative to a guild summit to push that lie (and already actually have). it’s all smoke and mirrors. just deception to keep the cash flowing in with zero progress to make good on it.
after a certain point, their words lose all value, and already have a long long time ago. don’t expect them to ever do anything to benefit roleplayers, because no how matter how many time they say they care, their actions (or complete lack thereof) prove that they don’t.
it isn’t just GW2 either. all of the other MMO’s i’ve played in have followed the exact same pattern. at best, we’ll get some insignificant and utterly useless token gesture once a year, and then told to go back under our rocks and shut the hell up. nothing that actually benefits roleplayers will ever be in this game, despite all of the lies they try to feed us.
while it may sound harsh, it really is the truth. it’s not a pessimistic view, it’s a realistic one. and here’s the kicker, this post will most likely be deleted and i’ll get an infraction simply for being honest.
It’s not that they don’t care, it’s that they don’t want to do extra work to appease what is, at best, a minority crowd. The amount of work involved in making every chair, table, and bed an interactive object is mind boggling. It may work in smaller scale single player and console games, but I don’t see it being feasible in an MMO.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
We have been discussing this in the Lore forum. It seems very likely that the Zephyrites will play a large role as the plot continues, in particular with relation to the EDs. They may even be involved in us discovering what the EDs are exactly and how they came to be in the first place (if anyone would have an idea, then Glint would).
As for Glint’s size, her discription in Destiny’s Edge had her as quite alot larger than what she was in GW1. Its always possible that the Glint we met in that game was an illusion or a aspect of Glint. After all she did dogfight Kralkatorik in the air and even though she was much smaller than him, considering his size she cant have been that small.
That’s pretty interesting. Though at first I though we killed Glint at the end of the dragon’s lair mission, her vision appeared later in Droknar’s Forge. So looking back, I do believe that what we faced in the dragon’s lair was indeed merely an aspect of Glint. Like the six aspects before her.

If you can’t get the kite, you can’t get it. Simple as that. This isn’t a freebie. You gotta work for it.
I sincerely hope no one tells you this when you really need something you don’t have in real life.
I suspect Randroids and people with the same kind of mentality actually have a lower propensity to thrive in a healthy society.
I agree with his statement. People today are too entitled. A lot of them remind me of spoiled children. Today’s motto seems to be: If at first you don’t succeed, whine about it until someone makes it easier for you.
-BnooMaGoo.5690

And for the record: I like my ranger.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I thought the insignia/inscription/jewel worked like other recipes. Say you want to make a celestial weapon. You craft the celestial inscription, then use it like a normal inscription.
Or are you saying you need the inscription recipe and the specific weapon recipe in order to craft the weapon?
-BnooMaGoo.5690
This kite is ridiculous. There were 3 of us from Dragonbrand going up and working together to get the kite and when we made it up to the top we were ganked by 3 people from Tarnished Coast. We were all killed and then they proceeded to jump on our corpses and do other insulting things to us. I decided to wait for someone from Dragonbrand to come by to give me a res, but when someone made it the campers just killed them too. They have been camping there for over an hour now and show no sign of leaving. People just have NO HOPE of completing this meta event when there are campers at the kite… At least just for this event, for one week, everyone should be friendly at this JP. This is ridiculous. I completed what I was supposed to complete and I am literally within feet of the kite, but because someone decided to be a jerk I don’t get to get my Gift of Crystal Quartz? I have 14/16 achievements and am thinking that this is going to be impossible because of campers.
Tell that to the 10+ group of dragonbrand that have been camping the entrance of the puzzle nearly all day. Maybe they should help escort you instead of ganking people as they drop in.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I expect a future update to change beast mastery from a flat stat boost, to a percentage of the ranger’s stats…perhaps 1% per 2 points.

I’m not a brick wall. I’m exhausted. Thousands of hours in dungeons, high level FOTM, etc. After tons of testing, I daresay you won’t be able to do much better than this:
There’s nothing else to say. Do it or go home. I’m fed up with this conversation. Spirits work and pets don’t die and ranger does damage. I shall leave it at that.
I’m a bit curious. You use this build for everything? How flexible are the weapon sets? Does this build also work with say…a longbow and a greatsword?
I would imagine you’d have to know the content you’re doing like the back of your hand in order to manage your spirits/pet so they don’t die. But, I’m a simpleton. I just dump 30 into beast mastery and hit things over the head with my giant pool noodle. On the plus side, my pet doesn’t die.
Though, without those points in beast mastery, I imagine you cannot use cats for damage.
Yes yes and yes! I do use one cat on grawl fractal (stun / team immob shaman then tear apart with sword and cat), or anywhere where you can quickly burst down a target. Still, drakes are very nice and devourers just live. Plus, devourer stacks might twice with every attack for rampage as one, which is kind of cool.
Afaik it’s always better to put points into the ranger for damage but I just playtest. Really I should head to a risengiant in orr to check for sure….nah, I’m almost positive this is better. I ran 20/20/0/0/30 for a long time and it’s just not as good.
Note: By always better I mean always better for fractals/dungeons. It’s glassy so expect to die if you aren’t practiced in dungeons or with your team or with ranger. Glass cannon is very effective but only if you can be flawless. You can get 1 shot. As a really good ranger though, you’ll find you have plenty of endurance and evades to stay out of trouble. But you have to put yourself in good position. This is the kind of build you use when you see Define stack and kill dungeon bosses. Drawn out extended encounters increase the likelyhood you’ll get fatigued and make a mistake. This is glass cannon though and being able to successfully use it in pve is to perform at peak.
I typically skip the spirits in the open world, and prefer to run with signet of the hunt in its place. Though 6-7k mauls are always nice.

I’m glad they boosted up the achievement point value for these achievements (and yes, I’m almost positive they were intended to be bumped up… you can’t just “accidentally” bump up an entire category of achievements).
I don’t know much about writing and editing code, but these types of things do happen accidentally. Anet was mucking around with the achievement panel’s code, maybe someone edited a value that they shouldn’t have.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
You know, I didn’t notice this at all. I saw my last unfinished HoM achievement staring me in the face when I opened my achievement panel. When I saw that it was worth 50 points I thought to myself…“maybe I should go back and finish that.”
-BnooMaGoo.5690
My poor asura is just fine after this little adventure. SOMEHOW.
What’s really great is that I could’ve gotten even higher than I managed. I wonder if there’s even a cap to fall damage…
There isn’t. Though fall damage is based on your character’s HP, so a warrior in full vit gear will take more falling damage than classes with less health.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
this is all wrong rangers are people that crawl out from under rocks, birthed from grubs and eat little children who get lost in the woods. scraps are fed near by animals that fallow them hoping for more scraps of children who were lost. also rangers bleed acid.
How absurd.
We don’t eat little children.
We just feed them to our pets.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
That build looks pretty beast i’m not gonna lie….
@Quarktastic, well Drakes are best AoE pet (pretty much only AoE pets xD), and they’re pretty tanky so they’re not too bad for damage, and then the devourer is easy to keep up and isn’t too bad in damage either, so there’s not too many downsides to taking them instead of a cat tbh.
I’ll admit, I ran the build a few times through CoE (all paths). Didin’t change my pets, armor, or weapons. A few things to note: there seems to be no safe place to put spirits against subject alpha, though I did manage to keep that frost spirit alive for over 30 seconds in most cases. My pets died several times -I guess I’m just used to them being able to take more punishment. Other than that, I deal more damage, and my pet deals less damage. Not sure if I’m actually dealing more damage overall.
Though, between spotter, frost spirit, steady focus and hunter’s tactics, I’m getting about a 32% damage boost if all the conditions are met. Meanwhile, allies get roughly a 12% boost from frost spirit and spotter.

Destroyer Longbow got a flying string as well.
Ok, but most bows have properly placed strings. And Kudzu is a freaking legendary. A little attention to detail would be nice.

I think increasing stack size to 500 would be a good start. On everything. Including salvage kits.
I’ve played many games where stack size was dependent on the items themselves. For instance, Items that were easy to acquire in large quantities -tokens in GW2- could stack to 9999.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
25 days! Not another grind! /sarcasm
Seriously though, I hope the new armor will look great.
I expect that it will be regular looking crafted armor (draconic/emblazoned etc.) with celestial stats.
The new achievement rewards will however contain unique looking armor, but they will likely be skins, not actual armor pieces.

So you guys are thinking that ANet is pulling an Aion in the next patch? They could certainly do it and just limit it to a specific location. However, it would be really awkward.
Maybe they’re adding crouch to the game. There are several applications for crouch.
- When falling, pressing the crouch key right before hitting the ground will reduce falling damage by a certain percent and also prevent falling flat on your face
- Let’s you take cover behind certain low height objects so you get extra protection from projectile attacks
- Moving when crouched could potentially allow you to sneak past certain monsters when they would otherwise aggro on you if you got too close
NO, there will be no spunkgargleweewee mechanics in GW2, id rather be a WoW fanboy and say that any of the Crisis games looked worse than WoW then have sheizbrown and boringray mms mechanics in a MMORPG.
You must be a big fan of elder scrolls games right?
-BnooMaGoo.5690
The traits are working just fine, how it displays on the HUD is different. My bet is they removed pop-up number packets that come from affects from the pet, (i.e. the lack of condition damage being visible, the traits not popping up) because, while the source of the buff comes from our traits, it isn’t coming specifically from our character, and therefor isn’t displayed. This must be a recent change as before it would display these numbers.
Signet of the Wild, however, is equipped only on you and applies a shared buff between both you and the pet, which is why it appears on the screen.
At least, that’s how I understand the distinction between the skills.
Pet attack damage floaters are still visible, so I’m pretty sure it’s a bug.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Oh, I’m definitely not saying that it was the only way to handle it. But look at the design of the skills is all; flanking for max damage, point blank for max effectiveness, evade+kiting, cripple+pressure, and interrupt with better effects when flanking.
Everything about the weapon suggests that it’s purpose wasn’t to sit at 1200 range and spam 1 at people. Maybe the devs didn’t design the other weapons well enough, or maybe they don’t want rangers using conditions at long range, but either way, the change was to force the weapon to have to be used as intended. Down the line from now, with a different change, they could implement something where everybody all of a sudden goes “oh man, I get why they did that now.”
All I’m saying is that for everybody who wants the game “fixed,” thinking that it was okay for the shortbow to be the go to weapon for everything (and that fact that it was kind of true) isn’t balanced, and isn’t good design, and needed to be limited within its design so that it doesn’t overshadow weapons. Also, the data analysis after the patch is going to be an extreme measurement of how much the ranger community doesn’t like the longbow when even after the patch people still won’t use it. That right there is going to immediately start a flow of improvements to the longbow down the pipeline, which is ultimately what most power build users wanted (until they got used to the prepatch shortbow).
That being said though, the next patch really does need to take a ranger/warrior/engineer focus (from a pvp perspective anyhow).
The shortbow always struck me as a mid range skirmishing weapon, with its high mobility and focus on flanking to apply conditions. I used to use it extensively in my PvE trap build, where I was always within 600 range of my target.
