Uh, just out of school computer science major here.
I don’t think it should be that hard. Just turn the values in the traits into variables, and then pull data directly from the traits data base into those variables after any patch/maintenance.
So for example, X% of toughness is given as a bonus to precision. X is being filled in by a query to the database that stores the actual numerical data on what traits do.
You’re right, it’s not hard…. if you have access to the data. It’s entirely possible that what manages the tooltips is in a different C++ project or just inaccessible for whatever reason (lots of things can cause this). That makes this more of a project founded in restructuring their data management rather than “can I put a variable into a string” which is, as you described, easy.
On the plus side, looks like they’re going to fix the tips to work off the database and not self-stored values.
as soon as they have to change just a single word, they have to pay for localization in all languages again. that’s why they rarely update any of the text, if ever. they’ve explained it before.
And that’s my problem why? Perhaps if these things were done right the first time they would not be in this situation.
So you’re saying that you can write a novel and get everything right the first draft?
Not at all, although I do not have a qa team working for me, or years of developing the game and months on months of having people beta test it and report bugs not to mention the excessive time they have since launch to correct these and other glaring issues, alot of which were reported in beta.
How ever even I could program something that doesn’t work right.
The thing with the tool tips is apparently they’re hardcoded. Which means if things like the cooldowns were changed after the ti[p was written, it wouldn’t change the tooltip. Depending on WHEN it was changed, the powers type people might not of been able to get the word over in time to the text/localization folks, and wouldn’t necessarily realize the issue because they tend to look at what it does vs what it says it does.

3rd party ad ons already exist. Use at your own risk though.
3rd party ad ons were also semi widely used in GW1. Anet did not support them, however, they did not punish ppl for using them either.
I know there is a third party program that will unlock your zoom so you can go out indefinitely…good for areal screen shots and what not.
That zoom program can and will get you banned if they are figuring out you are using it however.
It gets abused in WvW by some.
So far the only “safe” mod is called Combat Mod, which basically changes a few keys behaviors to alter how the game feels when it plays, but Anet refuses to endorse ANY 3rd party mods for liability reasons (i.e. one gets loaded with a virus, or some such)
If you’re worried about it, just go after the basic gifts (Luck/battle/might/magic)
If they didn’t want the jewelry boxes to be a source of gold :
We wouldn’t get the unidentifiable junk objects.
We wouldn’t get non-soul-bound crafting mats.
The jewelry boxes are set at what Anet finds to be an acceptable ratio of Karma-to-Gold, and if that changes, they’ll just change the cost of the jewelry box or adjust drop rates.
Unless you’ve found a way to make them reliably drop a lodestone or some such every time you open them, but that’s another matter.
I’ll make a fix for this. Thanks.
It would be nice if you also fixed the other 500 issues with the game, but I suppose a single bug fix and a thousand tooltip fixes a month is fine.
People like you making posts like this are why we don’t have more Anet devs (or devs for MMOs in general) willing to post on the forums.
Thanks.
If it won’t let you re-setup to get the code again, contact support about this.
EDIT: Here is the knowledge base article https://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9238/kw/mobile/session/L3RpbWUvMTM2Nzg4NDQzNC9zaWQvQkxBQjN5cGw%3D
They should – this is the only instance I know of where you an get your name changed with a hand in choosing your new one – I’d include a couple of requests/suggestions with the ticket if you haven’t already.
No, I am willing to believe it because it has happened before. Maybe not like this, but ANet is quite vigilant against botters and gold sellers and have, on many occasions, made huge banning mistakes which targeted many innocent people.
To me, a company that makes these kinds of mistakes, also would make the mistake of what the OP suggests.
It is also true that ANet will take your items/gold from you if you are caught buying gold – as there was a post about it at some point which I refuse to dig up. So, the idea that ANet would take items from a players also is not something new.
So, no, none of this surprises me, and it has nothing to do with my “bias”.
It’d be really cool if yo could dig that post up, since it goes counter to every other instance of Anet going after farmers/botters that this board has seen.

It’s like sexual harassment. It doesn’t matter who was offended, as long as someone was.
And some of us turned our filters off because we got tired of seeing things like “Kes*** Hills” (Original filter for the game and the forums, especially the forums, was… using a nuke to blow up a small building, say.)
1 – how is this an ACCOUNT ISSUE
2 – why? Why should they delete it? Especially as it has information about a phishing scam – it being there could help others.
Haven’t read through the whole thread, so sorry if it’s already been given, but a great way they can make Magic Find gear help party members is if Magic Find amongst party members was added together and divided equally between them.
For example, 4 party members have no MF and one has 100%. It would mean all would now have 20%. Perfectly fair.
Yup, that’s what I’ve been saying. Best and easiest fix by far; doesn’t require any pointless overhauls. IMO removing it altogether would cause a huge firestorm and there’s really no need for current itemization to suffer.
But, unlike some of those overhauls, it WOULD require programming time, I’d think (I don’t know if the system could handle a buff that’s added up/divided like that based on the number of people. Although as long as they were done as stack-able buffs, the adding part wouldn’t matter. But I don’t recall any buffs that scale down with the number of people you team with.)
It’s amazing how much easier it can be to get something done when it doesn’t require programming time.
Note account restorations are rollbacks – any progress you make now (if you make a new character) will be erased when the restoration goes through.
This isn’t the thread for that – you want the thread whose title mentions three day and older tickets – it’s a sticky, so it’s in the first section of threads on this forum.

Or if you had the software set up for it, two keyboards and mice, one for each screen.
The only way to wear (2) would be to infuse one of them in the mystic forge, which essentially makes them two different rings.
As many people that use MF say, they have both farming MF gear and different dungeon gear, the only place that MF is actually “bad” is in a dungeon, I fail to see why there is any need to remove MF anywhere else. Simply making MF useless in dungeons and also increasing the rewards of all dungeon chests should be enough.
Why should they increase the chests, though, if the chests are unaffected anyway?

Or just making it spread to groups as an average. I don’t understand why other people don’t see that as the easiest, best solution.
Because backend, it might not be the easiest solution?
For the more immediate details, we’ll be releasing more info about our first May update here shortly.

As was mentioned earlier in this thread, we have stated that we are unable to provide a reply to all suggestions posted in the suggestion subforum.
We do, however, regularly read the suggestions forum and deliver feedback to the design team on a daily basis. Just because you haven’t seen a reply does not mean it’s not being read.
Could we get a “dev +1” so we know a dev has checked the topic and we can feel all warm and fuzzy inside?
And then there is a kittenstorm when the suggestion “players rezzed by max number of rezzers explode into a pile of kittens then reform” gets a dev+1 and isn’t promptly made into (in-game) reality.
could also have a dev -1
A Dev-1 would be just as bad, if not worse.
Notice the forums have a minimum post rule (think it’s 7 word?). They don’t want simple "No"s. Notice that even though we have a +1 we have no -1 as it is.
When it comes to suggestions, it’s best to explain why it’s a no, such as when someone was making a comment about the camera (in the SAB?) and it was explained why the suggestion wouldn’t work. (The suggestion had to do with locking where the camera was in relation to the player, the reason why it couldn’t work is how they have the camera and clipping interact).
lets look at this is a way where merchanters did not mess up the trade post, lets say on the 28th of April.
at that time the rare veggie pizza costs 5s00c BUT it lasts only half as long as a Bowl of Garlic Kale Sautee, so to even that out, it will take 10s00c to get a full hour of the same stats.
now lets take a look at the prices for the ingredients on the 28th of April
head of garlic: 50c
since you need 20 of those, that is 50c x 20 = 10s00c …well unless the other ingredients cost less then zero this recipe is never going to get used for nothing.
more math:
1g = 20 x rare veggie pizza = 10 hours of 40%condition duration and 70 condition damage
1g = 3 x bowl of garlic kale sautee = 3 hours of 40%condition duration and 70 condition damagelet me just make like an angry video game nerd and say: WHAT WHERE THEY THINKING
solutions: divide the amount of garlic and kale required by 10.
Looking at Rare Veggie Pizza in GW2DB.com, the cost to CREATE it is over 70s. While people are selling it for very little, that’s a major hole (unless they made a lot from leveling up cooking) considering how much some of the ingredients costs.
Rare Veggie Pizza is also something like a 5th generation pizza. (Cheese->Mushroom->Fancy->Super->Rare Veggie IIRC)
While I’d love a reduction in the ingredients for Garlic Kale Saute here, I don’t see them giving us a 90% reduction – maybe 25%?
Did you take into account that every time after Cheese Pizza, the other pizzas leading up to the Rare Veggie are doubled? So unless my quick calculations are off, for every 1 Cheese Pizza you end up with 8 Rare Veggie Pizzas.
Didn’t notice that, I admit, but going though and just using average BIDS you still end up at a minimum of 8-9s and 12+ karma per Rare pizza, as well as (previously mentioned) a bunch of refining.
And that’s assuming I did my math right while in a hurry to go to the movies. Later folks.

Whatever. I don’t really get a sense of that really happening. The OP has provided very strong evidence that it’s not really happening.
Listening/Reading /= Doing what was heard/read.
I really hate this CAMERA. Why devs do not tell anything about it? Why they made it like that, why it’s bad placed, why it’s impossible to look around in closed buildings :P ???
I think there are too many UNanswered questions, and a pair of new skins each month won’t keep this game alive…
Because camera behavior is a tricky thing to change.
At least some of the devs also want to change it.

. However, whenever the team does respond it sounds an awful lot like PR talk to me, and not even enthusiastic PR talk at that. It’s many many variations on a cold and distant “we’ll consider it.”
I’ll agree that some response is better than no response, but I’ll argue that some reasoning, even faulty reasoning, is better than no reasoning. There’s no rational in PR talk. We don’t know what the devs are doing given the limitations they’re working with, because they don’t bother tell us. Not clearly, anyway. This not only gives the impressions of a large distance between player and dev, but also stretches the players’ patience and confidence in the dev team.
THe problem is if they are not careful in responses to things like these, giving “PR Speak” as you say, someone will take a response and run with it, saying that this or that dev said something is coming when it’s not, but merely being looked at.
I’ve seen it in CoH, and in other games. It’s right there with the “Devs don’t listen” lie/misstatement (where people seem to think “listen” means “do what we say/want”).
At one point CoH’s devs said power customization wasn’t practical because it would tie up most of their creative resources for a year or so – and people turned that into “never going to happen”. So many were shocked when it happened (after COH got more resources).

Josh you think in future worlds we’ll get a better primary weapon than the stick?
Yes. Every skill slot has 3. So there will be two more primary weapons.
Maybe a set of nunchucks? I previewed the model thanks to a code linked from reddit, so I know they’re there!
Sure you are not confusing them with Vanquish’s Sword-chucks?
And the list of words not acceptable is a exact match list, IIRC – not a partial – to make sure we don’t get any more Kes*** Hills XD.
Or when the forums went nuts and ignored spaces to see if it should censor words.
If you have not yet, don’t forget to also change your email password.

could also someone tell me how to change my display name because i want to use the one of my “2” account and not this one that i currently have
Traditionally, display names are changed only if they violate the naming policy OR the person accidentally put in their real name.
Couldn’t hurt to ask, though, since it seems like in this instance you were hit by other factors as well.
If it makes you feel better, when i started getting paranoid, it took a while to find it (I ordered through Anet).
They used ArenaNet <noreply@guildwars2.com> as the sender info.
Basically, they’re doing the same thing as they do with 3rd party tools that affect/are used in conjunction with the game : Not going to approve, but as long as it doesn’t break other rules, not going to go after.
Which means, most likely, that if they have a change in this “blind eye” policy we would get a notice.
Dear ANet, my account has been hacked earlier today without any notice, I received no e-mail about authenticating an unknown IP address. Apparently, the hacker was from California, US as I found it out later. I have played since launch and I have 6 max lvl characters, they are left with no weapons or gold at the moment, my main character has no armor either. I had approximately 60 gold, 700 badges of honor and god knows how many dungeon tokens before the attack. The guy also deleted my Gifts and I had unique event bags from karka and wintersday events. Could you find a way to recover my lost items and gold, badges, etc?
This is not the place for this.
If you have been hacked :
1 – change your passwords – both in-game and whatever email you use.
2 – Submit a support ticket at https://en.support.guildwars2.com/ (Ask a question tab). Note if you have not yet created a SUPPORT account, it won’t recognize your account – GAME and SUPPORT account are kept separate, and are created separately.
3 – As a part of this process you can request an /account/ restoration – it will roll your account back to a previous point. Note that that they do backup points periodically, but should be able to get you within a week or two of where you were before you were hacked. Note this will wipe out any progress you’ve made since the hack.
It took less than an hour to transfer me to the wrong server
Takes many hours to get a reply as to why the wrong one
Because the regular players here in the forum have so much power to move others?
You need to UPDATE your original ticket that resulted in your erroneous move, we can’t help you here. If after three days there’s been no update, post your ticket number in the “Tickets for Review” thread sticked (and with a red “Arena Net has posted here” icon) at the top of this forum.
If you buy a Collector’s Edition, which you can not do in-game, you will have two accounts. It is possible to upgrade your current account, using the key from the CE in account registration. The CE account will supercede your current account, but you will retain all progress, and receive the digital items. You can’t upgrade to CE in-game.
https://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9295/kw/upgrade%20account
Even though this information talks about upgrading from trial to paid account, the same process (the second one mentioned) is used to upgrade to a CE.
If you need help, feel free to contact support through ‘Ask a Question’, at that same page. Good luck. =)
The “Digital Deluxe Upgrade” is indeed available in game – that upgrade has everything the CE does in-game. It just lacks any physical items.
Also, another trick is selling it, then “noticing” you’ve had “fraud” on your credit card and doing a chargeback. And chargebacks cost Anet more than just the refund.
They don’t allow it because some people will give or sell an account, then later contact support and get it back.
Do you really believe that? They don’t allow because if you buy anyone’s account you dont give THEM money. And money is all they want.
Yes, I do believe that. I’ve seen it in other games.
It’s some of A, some of B in this – as it’s also a case of Anet wanting the money. But the big issue is preventing steal-back sales.
That said I don’t see how they could have known we were having technical difficulties. No honor in battle he? ^^
I thought it was possible to shut down WvW only for the 3 servers, but I’m probably wrong.
I’m sure they could but as was said – is it fair to the other two servers not having issues to lose out as well?
We don’t have one yet, but we are working on implementing something to stop corpse scouting. That’s all the info I have right now though and there is no ETA.
Giving us the ability to force-respawn dead enemies? (Having it take the same time as the “Finish Them” would sound about right)
9pm EST is kind of late for people on the east coast. It should have stayed at 6pm EST.
This is an MMO. If they do anything it will inconvenience someone
So why is east coast automatically more important than west coast, apparently?
Who decided on the reset times? Why did you put it at 6:00 PST instead of just putting it back to 5:00 PST like it was before?
They did put it at 5pm PST. Which, since we are in Daylight savings in the US, currently, is 6PM PDT.
They like to be able to say “This happens at XX:XX UTC” – and keeping it at the same time UTC means anywhere that practices daylight savings will have it shift around an hour when daylight savings begins/ends.
Please do clear your mailbox and if you need help contact Support by filing a ticket through the “Ask a Question” tab on that linked page. They will be able to assist you. For tips on what information to provide in a ticket, please read this post and provide as much as possible to expedite the ticket.
But gem don’t go through the mail – why would that affect buying gems?
We are not planning to adjust the server times for DST, because it is just overly complicated to keep up with. As of Friday, taking into account DST, the match up will reset at 6 PM on the West Coast of the United States, which is 9 PM on the East Coast. It will reset at 7 PM in the U.K.
SO NA will now reset at UTC 1AM Saturday, here on out?
Precursors are exotic weapons.
As far as I know, nothing that drops exotics has Precursors edited out of their tables.
Could we also get the option to click links on the forum without having to copy paste everything?!
?
I can already do this – if it’s offsite it does go though a “We’re not responsible for this!” page first, but I’ve never had to cut/paste unless I wanted to.
16) What does it mean? “8 times the amount of space”? You mean like database or code where it takes more space and making the game slower?
Might not make the game slower (shouldn’t), but yeah, it would take more space. Essentially each item is listed as having a value of 1 or 0, right now (yes or no). To enable anything else, would require 8x that (computers are binary, so anything more than 1 or 0 [each known as a bit] is represented by a group of more 1s and 0s, with a group of 8 being " byte") to be able to get anything more than a yes/no (aka boolean value) stored.
Snowflakes was obvious, it required much less mats then others of its tier.
Especially when you’ve leveled up Jewelrycrafting high enough to make it you would/should of noticed the recipe was amazing light. And
1859893kittenLing U.6918:You won’t get a suspension for a slip of the tongue
How do they know if you typed with your tongue? IMO, there’s no such thing as a “slip” when you’re typing. If you spelled it, you dealt it.
While the nature of the Internet makes repercussions more likely (in a way) you can still have a metaphorical slip of the tongue while typing. It’s the equivalent of being made, or such, and punching the wall. Not a great idea, but sometimes you do it before you stop yourself.
