Submitting a ticket is useless. Last time i was banned i submitted a ticket because i never received an email as to why. The response was, that i should check my spam folder because one was sent. I told them yet again, i have never received one and what were the reasons for my ban and the amount of time. They once again replied, we sent one, but still refused to answer the question. This went on for 3 days, by then my ban was over….and still to this day no one contacted from anet as to the reason of my ban. Very poor customer service IMO.

Pass your ticket to Mark. They generally DON"T send an email as to why you are banned, and when asked, they should at least tell you the general reason why if not the specifics.

Mob Mentality in Kessex Hills

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rajani Isa.6294

Rajani Isa.6294

I was in Kessex Hills working on my dailies/leveling a low level toon when map chat exploded with people yelling at others because they weren’t letting an event fail (I.E. doing the event). I jump in, totally not sure what’s going on and pick a fight with the loudest and rudest person in map chat, as time goes on people explain why they want the event to fail but are still unforgiving of people doing the event.
While I understand that certain events give more rewards than others, this doesn’t really seem to be right. Having the rewards improved so much, that people are purposely failing the events to trigger is a problem. Having the rewards improved so much that people are openly and as a group attacking the individuals who are doing the events (as intended) is a Really big problem.
One of the comments in Map chat was that this is common practice in Orr as well, got me kind of curious… Is this mob mentality really accepted into the PvE meta? Or was this just an isolated incidence of a rotten batch of apples?

~Background information (I wvw full time, but have recently been branching out so this was a serious shocker to me. However I suppose I want to know if it’s something I’ll just have to get used to or ignore. ) Don’t think it matters because of MegaServer but I"m on SBI.

An Anet rep has stated that failing an event on purpose in order to farm mobs is every bit as acceptable as completing the event.

What is not acceptable is being abusive toward others. In situations where conflict has escalated to abuse between event fail farmers and event completers Anet has altered the events to prevent the conflict.

No they did not say it is every bit as acceptable.

They said that everyone has the right to play the way they want unless it interferes with those playing the game the way it was designed to be played. Which is an important distinction to make and one fail train farmers seem oblivious to. They argument always stops at the “play the way you want” part and skips the rest.

They also said that things that cause toxicity (really really starting to hate that word) is super not okay. Which fail farming inevitably does.

It is interesting to note that the dev’s quote does not in fact include the bolded section of your claim.

Chris Cleary.8017:
“There are really two sides to this, and when it comes down to it, you are both right – and you are both wrong. Both sides have the right to complete the task that they set out to do (completing or not completing).
Challenging another player’s play style is the issue here, and since this revolved around an event that was designed to be completed, it is being changed so that the original design of the event can be carried out.
When something in the game (such as this event) changes negatively as this has, we need to step in and remediate the toxicity. The byproduct of this change happens to be that a champion farm is being slowed, but since that was the originating factor for the toxicity, it’s unavoidable.
I encourage players to remember that not everyone has the same goals when they play, and sometimes they will clash.”

I was paraphrasing. The key part is this..

“Challenging another player’s play style is the issue here, and since this revolved around an event that was designed to be completed, "

And this

“it is being changed so that the original design of the event can be carried out.”

It’s inferred that you can play the way you want unless it interferes with people playing the game as it was designed. If they were okay with people fail farming they wouldn’t constantly change events so they can’t be farmed, would they?

“Paraphrasing,” and, “inferred,” in this case mean misrepresenting what was stated. Note that the reason given for changing the events is toxicity not failing events.

Toxicity over people completing the events and not letting them fail.

Mob Mentality in Kessex Hills

Rajani Isa.6294

So basically they have designed a Exploit if what I get from reading what you put here?? No other game that I have played does any one gain from Failing… Seem to me to be a bad idea to reward people that purposely fail… Failing should be just that failing and failing to me means no gain or reward… But that is just how I think others may not think the same… I know the first time I saw I got exp from a failed event I told my girl friend this was stupid….

Sort of. I wouldn’t say they have “designed an exploit,” but they designed in such a way that exploitation is possible. It’s not the most obvious of loopholes, unless you’ve already seen it happen.

The beauty of it (or ugliness I guess, depending on how you feel about it) is that the rewards people are getting are not technically from failing the event. The rewards are from killing mobs during the event and getting rewards from those mobs. And then people fail the event, so that it will repeat, giving them access to those same mobs again.

It is the timer in-between failure/reset that gives them room to take advantage of the system. If every failed event took something like 20 minutes minimum in-between failures, then this issue wouldn’t occur at all (the wait would be too long for people to take advantage of it).

But that’s where the “good game design practice” part comes in; giving people a chance to try again within minutes means the game is more forgiving of their failure. It just happens to also be exploitable because the game can’t tell the difference between unintended failure (the thing it’s trying to be forgiving of) and intended failure (the exploitation of the system).

Also, several event chains have branches based on an event failing or succeeding. Sometimes the chances for loot are better along the fail branch due to the number of champs, etc that spawn in it.

First off you people need to quit being jerks. I wasn’t asking you, was trying to get reply from anet not a bunch of trolls.

Second, I’m not asking for a single thing for free. I’m more then willing to spend the $10 to change my name. $30 is insane.

Thirdly mind your own business what others are asking, it doesn’t effect you.

Forth. Working in customer service for many years, yes if a loyal customer of many years who has spent a lot of money on our services asks for a small discount one year, you bet I’m going to give them a discount. I wouldn’t think twice about not helping them. Any company I know of would do this except maybe a retail store.

It is just $10 to change a name. You, however, want to change two names, that are in use by the other character, without deleting either one.

So $30.

Unfortunately, as soon as you said “and my brother”, well… you just admitted to the illegitimate past use of that account.

Is that the distinct sound of Dhuum’s sharpening stone I hear?

Well not necessarily, if he bought the account, and had it registered under his name for his brother, then him, and not the brother is the legitimate owner of the account. Also, account sharing is not exactly illegal, it’s a really bad idea, because if the person you are sharing with decides to delete everything, there is nothing ANET can do about it when the other member objects. (See “evil little brother effect”).

It’s quite NOT illegal.

But it IS against the contract you agreed to with Anet.

Gailes Post in this topic suggests a change in that policy, though.

Biggest way you can tell a legitimate email sent proactively by Anet – it will never have a link they want you to visit.

IF it asks you to visit a specific link (vs just directing you to go to guildwars2.com and type that in, don’t click it if your email highlights/links it) It’s a PHISH and don’t click it.

I recommend you get another dog. ^^There are large numbers of dogs in the pound looking for a home. Most of the dogs I’ve gotten were pound dogs and were wonderful pets. As a plus, you’re saving their lives as well as giving them a wonderful home. Yes, it’s sad to lose them but there is the joy from living with them to balance it out.

I have a 2 year old German Shepherd/Doberman cross called Apollo (From the pound) who is gorgeous and who we call son of Abel sometimes because they lived together and he shares much of his character. He is super protective of Alice our 2 year old daughter and that is just sooo cute. So at the moment I am thinking we should just concentrate on him. That said we are still very upset and thus my emotions are no doubt clouding the judgement of everything i am thinking about at the moment.

While you don’t want to run and jump into a new dog, you’ll probably want to get one soonish – it will help keep Apollo company when you’re out of the house.

And if it’s a young one, Apollo will hopefully help train the new dog

Wish you and your family a good end of year – never fun losing a family member.

Not sending out an email does two things :

One, it cuts down on things they have to do. They’d have to do SOME customization for each email. Also helps prevent their support emails from being marked as spam.

Two, it’s a for of security, believe it or not. While I know they did a trial program of sending out notes for language suspensions, other than possibly that (and that had no links in it) ArenaNet will NEVER initiate a contact with you about your account. Which means any emails along the lines of “Login now or your account will be terminated” are fraudulent; merely attempts to get your info.

Possibly it’s done this way so that only people with Guild Wars 2 accounts can post on the forum? I’m not sure how other games handle official forums and whether or not they use a separate password.

I read WoW forums occasionally and see they require an account. Do they have a separate password?

Like I said above, NCSoft used to have separate game and forum accounts. It was tied to the same active/inactive info as the game account.

While Guild Wars 2 doesn’t use master accounts they could simply have it be accessed by logging into the main site with the game login info and have the forum account be a section in the account page.

Forum and Game passwords should be different

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Rajani Isa.6294

Rajani Isa.6294

I’m not sure if the combined password is Anet’s choice.

I used to play City of Heroes, and at one point NCSoft decided it was more secure to combine the passwords, for some reason. Then, to make sure it didn’t cause security issues, messed with the ability to remain logged in. yeah.

Anyway, if you want more security, I recommend switching to the mobile authenticator. If you don’t like the Google Auth program, there are several other apps that can do the same thing off the info for setup. For example, Authy for iOS.

I like that they started with a hands-off policy, but there does need to be more logging for reporting.

There would be no difference to what is live, then.

You could ALWAYS kick people out with two votes, it’s just if the instance owner was kicked you lost the instance.

I agree that blocked people shouldn’t be able see if the blocker is online via guild, block, or friends lists. But not the blocking of chat.

Reading comprehension – please review the previous posts where I directly linked to a quote from Michael Henninger, that explicitly and specifically states it is allowed, and is dated as a more recent post than the quote you are linking.

Reading Comprehension – While Michael Henninger did state – rather, restate – that Anet allows (although he left out that they really do prefer you use the BLTP to prevent issues with scams) off BLTP trades, nowhere did he say that it is okay to use the LFG tool to do so.

John Smith’s pre-existing statement about the fact that the LFG tool is NOT a grey (aka completely in-game but off BLTP) market advertising tool is in no way canceled by Michael’s restatement of grey market policy.

That doesn’t help much because I receive gem purchase emails and from when I bought the game, I just don’t receive verification log in emails or password change emails and its highly frustrating because I want to play…

Well, to ask Inculpatus Cedo’s big question again :

Did you recieve the automatic “We got your request for support” email? This is important because if you’re not getting this, you are not going to get ANY support emails.

And they will not do this kind of support via the forums.

If not, you need to get a new/another email account and try again. (If you got a ticket number and wrote it down from the website form, mention it to link the requests).

If you did, realize it can take up to three days to get a response based on things like checking what they can on their end first and how many people need help that are before you in the queue. Also, do not submit multiple requests if you are getting the auto-response email because that will jsut slow it down for you and everyone else.

If it takes more than three days, post
