Thank guys, I have just skipped the scarlet war video. I will proceed with HoT quest first
Just to confirm, have you done Season 2? HoT will make no sense without S2 being completed since it sets everything up. If you have, then no problem.
I have completed till 8: point of no return. Does that consider as done?
It does indeed.

Spend all your hero points. Your elite spec will unlock after you have unlocked everything else and spent I think it’s an additional 30 points. You should have enough to do all that and a chunk of the elite specs skills and traits.
Hero journal sequence is as follows;
- Personal Story (you’ve done)
- Scarlets War (living story season 1, no longer exists. All you will get is a video recap)
- Season 2
- Heart of Thorns
- Season 3There is no important stuff really, just don’t rush through. It takes some of the fun out of it. I would advise learning about masteries though. They are your new progression system post-level 80 and something you can probably start working on in core tyria.
Hmm, I think I have completed scarlet’s war before.. should i abandon that?
It’s a 2min video. You might as well watch it and then move onto season 2 if you haven’t done it. If Season 2 is done, you can move onto Heart of Thorns

I prefer the first one, largely because she looks like a modern day Final Fantasy character and I always loved the aesthetics in those games. She has has the better hairstyle of the two.
The second is more fitting to GW2 though in terms of armour, but I would change the hair, either in colour or style
On the hand, humans rangers are just….cooler

It got removed because gem store items are regularly rotated in and out. We have no idea when it will return and the devs never inform when something is due to be cycled in.
It will be back at some point
There are mysterious men in lots of cutscenes and loading screens throughout the game. The HoT trailer had the guy with the spear and he re-appears again in one of the recent ones too.
It could be their “Mr E” inserted as a cameo or it could simply be one of the devs inserted as an easter egg of sorts. Whoever he is, I think it has become a fun little signature the artists like to add in.
Bitterfrost has some awesome locations. Including the huge tundra trees and the ice lake, which really has a great feel to it especially when you swim under the icebergs etc.
Snowden should have some especially cold, yet natural scenery (ie not icebrood structures). It also has some snow weather effects iirc. My favourite section is the west shore of the southern lake.
There are no unicorns or horses visible in game, but you could get a kind person to screenshot the Dreamer in action as it fires an actual unicorn. The Dreamer will likely to take you months of hard grind, so it could be an easier option.
If you open to it, GW1 had some great locations not currently in GW2. The Eye of the North is quite a sight for starters from the outside. I’m sure I could venture into GW1 and provide some screenshots.
So you need to buy acount bound slots for them to be useable?
I knew there was something fishy when the 1000 gem ones were labeled as account bound, but the pack was cheaper
They are account bound, but you still need to transfer them around if you want to use other toons. If you have shared inventory slots in your inventory panel, the process of transferring is quicker is all.
You need nothing else for them to be usable
Account bound.
Not to derail the discussion, but … who’s actually farming Mithril?!
I have rows upon rows of stacks of mithril Ingots in my bank plus my material storage. I cannot remember the last time I hit a Mithril node. It’s gotta be over a year plus. Mithril drops like rain and I don’t have an umbrella.
I just assumed it was this way for everyone. Is there some use or refinement or market I have no clue about?
Guild Halls use 43,000 mithril ore (ingots, kegs etc), so I expect that is a large reason. Plus deldrimor ingots require it and a lot of precursor crafting uses a great deal of deldrimor
It’s also not a case of farming it sometimes, but players like me often don’t like to pass a node untouched and gather just for when it might be needed.

Koalas are described as having hands. According to wiki, so are raccoons.
My vote is hands and Djinn is correct in saying why it isn’t claws.
So essentially a cheaper shared slot for one specific item? Then thered be no reason to buy the slots if you dont have the item
The idea is that they are items almost everyone has or will have at some point – portals, keys (any key), tonics (any tonics).
It’s a qol/convenience thing. However, as nice as the idea is, as established above, it’s just an extension of what we already have and it’s prob not something that would justify dev time on since shared slots already “work”.
I have farmed Elder Wood in far higher numbers than 18 nodes in a day. I guess it might be character based, but it def isn’t account wide or the cap is triple that at least.
Didn’t know about the ori/ancient wood one on a map though. Prob never see enough in one map to discover it.
It wont be a mace, they just did that one and it was non-silly at that
Correct, they absolutely stated they weren’t working on one and that it is clear it isn’t something we can expect anytime soon and that would likely apply to anything similar.
They haven’t said they absolutely aren’t going to do one. That was all I was clearing up based on the wordage used – I wanted to ensure I hadn’t missed a comms on that and happily I haven’t.
It’s a shame though, I just hope they are minimising how many more keys/currencies they are adding. The last map was beyond ridiculous – def something that should have been picked up on during the development discussions. Hopefully the forthcoming material storage expansion will go a small way to alleviating some of the issues.
If you’re going to spend any time on the latest 2 maps, Ancient Magics: Propulsion is a good pick.
When you say the latest two maps, do you mean the newest little maps that came with the Living World episodes?
I just finished the story with Bloodstone Fen, though have a few more things to hit for map completion. Haven’t started on the next two story steps yet.
I’ll go for that next, thank you!
Bloodstone Fen uses Ancient Mastery Line 1 – that one is actually necessary for certain steps in a couple of subsequent chapters beyond that episode
Ember Bay brought in another line for Ancient Mastery which is inly useful for fast travel in that and subsequent maps
Bitterfrost brought in the 3rd Ancient Mastery line which focuses on a useful mechanic for (at this time) that map only.
If you have Ancient Mastery 1 done, then I;d go for Leyline next. Wallows is also useful if you do Gerent a lot in Tangled Depths. Poison help with a couple of hero points and map completion in HoT. The rest are non-essential.
Ah right, so they didn’t absolutely state they aren’t going to do one like you originally said. I knew about it being no time soon or not being worked on at this time, which is a very different thing.
There’s no patch, so there isn’t anything new to download. I just got a random crash/dc in LA and it didn’t ask me to DL anything
If it persists, might be worth contacting Support

Yes, ive had this bug pretty much since the game begun. No idea what causes it. I think ive had it on non rich nodes as well.
Well, since the Devs absolutely stated they aren’t going to do ‘key-rings’ etc. (no mention why, technical or otherwise), I’m guessing they won’t be adding ‘specific-item slots’ any time soon.
Probably best to hope for more Shared Inventory Slots. Personally, I just use the bank and a Royal Terrace Pass in my one slot. =)
Do you have a link them saying absolutely? Last dev comment I read was they thought it was a good idea, but nit something being currently worked on.
The decoration limit is apparently to avoid raising the minimum specs of the game. It is not done to spite players, it really boils down to technical reasons and limitations.
Fractals have evolved and improved since then, with the facility to buy ascended gear and other items. Plus you have 3 raid wings you can invest time in. Both reward greater than Teq should you invest your time in them, especially the highest tiers of Fractals.
As of yet, the choice has no impact on any story. To be honest it probably wont either, since if it had any significant impact on anything, the game would be making it a part of the story journal and guiding players through. As of now, I suspect a great deal of players prob don’t even know about the quest, since it is a hidden achievement.
What it may impact is a future current event, taking into account the wider number of shadowstones handed in to either faction by the entire population.
Choose whichever you think your character would give it to I’d say.

When I made legendaries, Id use up all my laurels first and then sell off everything in my material storage I didnt immediately require and buy as many t6 mats as i could. That was back before t6 were easier to farm and when t6 mats were 40-70s a piece.
I note that the two most recent mats seem to drop t6 mats abundantly. I seem to always get a small stack from dragon minions after a while of playing. Otherwise, map rewards are you your way to go.
If they soulbound it to a diff toon, how would they xfer it back to salvage it?
I think the op is suggesting something that would fit more in the equipment UI than inventory. So you could buy a slot there for any portal item you equip, same as you do now for gathering items.
The main benefit is that it wouldnt take up a shared slot which would be more useful for other items or if you had maxed on shared slots.
It isnt really meant as an improvement over the existing system and I quite like the concept, but I think realistically it isnt needed. I think if we ever get a keyring and tonic cabinet, any conflicts with shared slots would disappear.
Ouch, yes it could be that indeed if it is eoulbound and not account bound. How would you even get round that?
No, but you have jumped straight into one of the hardest areas of the game without understanding the character you have. Engineers in any form have a larger learning curve than some of the other professions, so I’d advise taking your level 80 character to some of the core maps and just mess around until you get used to a build that suits you.
Currently you are aiming for a Scrapper without really knowing about your current traits and skills. Doing core map will alleviate that and you will find it will suddenly just click (as it did with me). You will also earn hero points to unlock Scrapper w/o needing to go to HoT.
Soldiers stats are fine for now – they are good for keeping you alive whilst you learn, but eventually you will ditch it (I’m using a combo of Berserker and Wanderer and he obliterates mobs in HoT now).
tldr: Mess around in core maps to learn class then unlock Scrapper and a chunk of skills/traits from core hero points.

Just to be clear and remove the obvious obstacles as a possible issue. You aren’t trying to salvage;
- whilst equipped
- whilst right clicking a salvage kit and salvaging that way (it’s an exotic so it wont appear)
- whilst it’s in an invisible bag
You are asking why was the game different a year ago befor a huge expansion came out ……
Yep but that had no effect on the mechanics you were mentioning. Hoarding and flipping was very much possible before HoT. The only thing that HoT changed was the price level. But I referred only to HoT prices in my post. (Before hot rugged leather squares were around 6-8s if I remember correctly or even at 5s.) The ‘HoT prices’ seemed stable in the first few weeks/months until players got their masteries maxed out, then this happened…
Surely if maxing masteries is an underlying cause, that will be the Legendary Crafting one, not the autoloot which has any significant impact on the economy for better or worse?
For the past few weeks I have noticed a shimmering man, that is the only way I can describe it, he appears at unpredicted times, and in unusual places. Just wondering if someone could tell me what it is all about. Did I miss something in the release notes, or am I just seeing things?
Current Events like this feature only a cryptic footnote in the release notes. The anomaly is related to the goings on in current Living Story (season 3). There is an achievement as mentioned above which will give a little more info on it, but on the whole, we are still in the dark about what these anomalies actually are
(although there has been an extremely good theory in the lore forum about them being The Mursaat who are trapped wherever they escaped to originally)
Transform everything for better storage into exotic lucks with artificer, and when Lunar comes, sell them to guilds to buy lanterns
(like the SW shovels or tomes of knowledge)
This is extremely useful info. Thanks for the tip, i can see me making lots of devorations this lunar festival!
I head you can but it gives you nothing
Possibly, but the OP wants other uses so it doesn’t go to waste. Personally I don’t think it is likely to happen any time soon – I would doubt more than a small number have reached maxed, but maybe a luck eater should be given to those who max their MF out using luck.
With the new consume all option there is no reason for you to hoard essence of luck. Even if your maxed just right click it consume all and be on your merry way.
I think the point is you can’t do this when your magic find is maxed out at 300
Sounds like a bug. Prob worth submitting to support rather than the community on here. I suspect they can answer you and ensure there are no account related issues.
A Christmas Day sale would be unusual. I would expect sales to start this week or next if they plan to do any.
That is a fairly ridiculous requirement. I’m still amazed they haven’t changed that fight after all the feedback about the issues with it, even if to remove the timer from it. Really though, I think it’s better they just altered the scaling to make it quicker to kill with a handful of people.
You wont get any changes this year. The devs are on holiday and it takes time to make even seemingly small upgrades.
I’m not overly fussed about it being a cake walk to be honest since it is meant to be light hearted fun and nothing more. However, I wouldn’t object to selecting a “tier” from the outside. The only issue is, finding groups would be very problematic as there may be few ppl doing one tier versus another. It would require them finding a way round the issue of being able to use pre-formed teams, and we know that’s a huge piece of work for them and may never get fixed.
I nearly sold mine a few years, but I am quite glad I didnt. Once I finally unboxed him, he is a very nice centrepiece.
Less ectos from salvaging rares. What gives?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Randulf.7614
After Auric yesterday, I got 2-3 ectos per every rare, thus ending a poorer run up to that point.
You need a sample size of thousands to see if a stealth nerf was added. Currently it’s just an unfortunate drop in rng for you that you are seeing.
I believe they already stated twice that they have the precursor.
Op, the gift of battle requires activiting the gift of battle reward track in the wvw game mode. You then need to advance tbat fully, either through dailies or wvw activities. Wvw is a form of pvp, but you cannot obtain the gift via the normal pvp mode
Wiki gives a list of every material. It breaks each gift down into a handy reference chart for ease of comparison.
You do not require Memories of Battle or Shards of GLory since they are for the newer legendaries and Bifrost is a Legendary that existed before those materials were ever in the game.
(You may need them in the Precursor Collection crafting for the Legend, but if you have that, you wont need the above mentioned currencies.)
The Gift of Battle is the only non-pve item you require for Bifrost.

You see, nearly each point got questioned, and all in the realm of cost or profit of which you did not answer any of them with actual metrics.
How could I have? I don’t work at anet and I have no idea how many hours/men it will take them to make it, so I can only talk about approximate pros/cons.
People say it will cost too much resources to create a new race, but there was never any official statement about that. I pointed that out. There is also no official statement that it fits perfectly in their budget either. But until either of such statements comes, it is up for discussion (yet some people are already saying it will never happen).
No, but Anet have stated on multiple occasions that cost and resources is usually the biggest barrier to adding certain features to the game. Even changing UI elements, menus, certain changes to texts, Voice Acting, all have had “costs” attributed as barriers from the dev team, either on the forums or on Reddit. We’ll never what those “costs” equate to, but they are obviously non-trivial or they wouldn’t mention them.
The only thing we can say on this side of the fence is that we know VA is a relatable obstacle. Actors need paying, dialogue needs scheduling for the actors, scheduling for the studios around other recording needs, time found to transfer all those lines into game and this needs to keep pace every release, unlike with NPCs who record once and done. Each race has a very distinct way of speaking and accent, so it couldn’t be a case of re-using existing VA options and if Anet were to implement a new race, they’d want to do it properly anyway.
The issue isn’t that they def wont ever do a new race, since we have zero idea what their plans are or their official stance is beyond what they stated last year. The issue is that it is not an easy implementation, it does not have a quick fix to add in, has a great deal of obstacles and the pay-off appears to be relatively low – it really is just the skin of the race since all the story, lore and maps can be handled in other ways.
Personally I think 5 races is fine – that’s already 5x more than GW1 had, which I personally believe benefited more from having a single race option. I prefer races to keep their unique flavour by being non-playable.
