you can use it 4 times and keep 15-20 vulnerability on your target. you can get criple on pistol (trait ) , and add bleeding or vulnerability sigil.
if you are full bersek you can go unload with haste, but that won’t guarantee you kill unless you got an fragile target

i would belived that you backstab 10 k on an normal player if i didn’t saw the 9 k heartseeker on the screen.
that means you can run arround with 2-2-2-2 4 heartseeker 35k damage
however you say in your post that you do average heartseeker 2500 -5000 and average backstab 6-10 k .
So how come you post screen with 9 k heartseeker and only 10k backstab, something does not match over here.

As far as traps are to weak , there are 3 major kind of thieves. Backstabers, vennom build, and condition build.
vennom build , use 2-3 vennoms, backstaber use stealth singet of assasin , and condition thief will use maximum survaivability.
If you make an comparation with guardian , where they can use support build, bunker build,burst build, spirit weapons build, consacration build, then yes, thives are forced to stay on 2-3 viable utility builds.

no sir , i 100% disagree , i go 100 vs 1 and i /dance on the dead body after.
I make about 1g-3g a day as a Mesmer in WvW… I die maybe 1-2 times and kill about 100 people or so… I also play solo so I always get loot bags and majority of the time I get 1-2 badges.
Events give silver… aim to do those… when you are at a camp, rush the dolyaks… taking down 2 dolyak then the camp is a stack of 3 events in 60 seconds of your life. Look for the next camp to take or a sentry. Quaggons is another easy event that pays well.
I use master kits and make 1-3 Orichalcum ore from heavy armors I get as loot… most of the time it is mithril. But selling the mithril at 30c each will add up and the Orichalcum at 3s…
Also jump puzzles give you blue prints… you can sell them at 50% off to players making several gold each day especially if you get alpha golems and trebs.

i would go for 30 points in shadow arts, with, deception reuse , condition removal and heal on stealth,30 on critical strikes, and 10 on DA for vulnerability on hit

regarding kills /badges number is 100% irelevant
i can go with my thief and 1 vs 1 or 1 vs 2 for 8 hours to make 20 badges
then i switch to guardian , go spam aoe with staf in zerg vs zerg and i make 150 kills in 40 minutes and 30-40 badges.
IF you want to farm badges, stay on guardian /eleme /eng and spam aoe in zerg vs zerg
i will tell you my opinion regarding this:
i had builded my thief on maximum surivaivability, to minimize the deaths on wvw, since i solo 95% of the time. I am hardly bursted down, and under no circumstances except 3-5 seconds freeze, or afk i cannot get downed in 1 vs 1 by another thief.
But at 90% critical power, and only 2780 p attack i find my initiative pool to small in order to finish an decent player , i am forced to use autoattack a lot , specialy vs warriors and guardians, and i can finish from 1 initiative pool only full glass cannons.
if by any chance thieves will suffer an future nerf in damage, the thieves who aren’t full glass cannon builded will suffer more.
not sure how you can deal , because i don’t know many about necro and engeniers
however yesterday an condition necro chased 2 thieves all the time.
i tryed fight vs him , 1 time i died stealthed from conditions , 1 time he intrerupt my stealth arround 5 times in row with his perma fear ability’s

Cause i can assure you is your fault you lose vs thieves as necro

So as an topic creator OP, what would you like to offer to thieves in exchange for the stealth, wich you consider is an broken mecanism. Thieves got no protection /aegis / stability/retailation and regeneraion is only from 1 skill. (compared with guardian that have 1 pasive and 4 active.

guardian got traits to reduce cooldown for singets, shouts and meditation
as well you can make consacration skill instant cast
with 30 points on virtues and some runes with boon duration you can almost keep some buffs like protection and retailation up non stop
i belive this is 1 of the reason, and cooldown looks fine for defensive shouts, stand your ground , hold the line 24 seconds

5 days ago i had an nice drop in WvWvW
Not sure what is the drop rate , but good loot exist
bunkers lack mobility, even if they try burst you down, they cannot, they lack damage also
so haras them with area of efect skills and keep an small range (ground targeting skills ignore retailation as far as i know ) keep your hp up and don’t try to burst them down.
Well since most players that complain are glass cannon guardians, i made an guide for them how to handle thieves:

because to be honest is extremly hard for thief already to kill any decent defensive guardian.
i see 2 -3 guardians complain on thieves forums every day , cause they lose vs thieves.
As an main guardian with alt thief i will point here few advantages that you guys should use vs thieves, personaly i never lost to an thief, except situations when i engaged with half hp or at least 2-3 utility’s on reuse
your strongest point vs thief is Armor combined with retailation. Retailation will reflect an fixed amount of dmg / hit arround 700 DMG. So as long as you maximize your armor, you will get less dmg and he will need more hits to kill you.
You must understand that guardian’s damage don’t come from pure power and critical , is combined with burn and retailation. every second that you survive increases your chances to win an 1 v 1, because your pasive regeneration and strong heals even with 0 healing power.
you can keep up retailation from : traits: 10 points in honor aegis give retailation on removal. utility’s : S Y/ stand your ground / singet that reduce incoming damage.
Area of effect skill ( AOE)/: staf :1 ‘st skill /scepter 2’nd skill (smite)/ hammer 2’nd skill , or simply normal attacks on the area where thief used stealth will hit him
just because you cannot see him doesen’t mean you cannot damage him.
Save yourselves (S Y) : maybe the best utility in terms of 1 vs 1
when to use it : never and never start with save yourselves when you engage an thief, he will just stealth away if he is smart enough, use it after he used at least 3 skills on you, you can start with stand your ground for retailation.
Know your enemy : most of thieves will engage with steal: and they have enough initiative to spam 5-6 skills on you. If you survive that burst they will have 2 choices : retreat or die. then is the time to release ur arsenal , activate virtue of justice , save yourselves and start spam aoe on the area where they use stealth.
Best weapons vs thieves, i find scepter on top because smite aoe, imobilize and the ability to use an off hand.
what not to do when you face an thief:
1. never and never start with racial elites, S Y or J I , safe this skills to finish your enemy
2. never run from them, they will catch you , they will punish you hard for this mistake , you will take 2 x more DMG
3. don’t stay on low hp, an smart thief will save intiative for finish combo. if he stealth away and you are on half hp or below , use any heal you got available.

i gues pistols are made for short range pvp, not as an assault siege weapon. and more range could be overpowered.

the reason is simple: i got 100% chance of 4 criticals in row before enemy can see me
let’s be fair and admit that ppls complain on the folowing combo , not about DMG
The trait combo : hidden thief / hidden killer , when they take steal (4k dmg) backstab 7-8k then cloack and dager 4 k +1 more hit before they see you.
well i do admit that the combo is a bit OP , but is your fault to show your back to an thief. because if the 2 hits that dagger land will not be backstabs combo will hit maximum 10 k DMG. and is able to use the combo once at 40 seconds.
Thief will never TOE to TOE an heavy armor user , and will fail vs medium armor as well if they do not land at least 1 rambo critical.

i got enough defence to survive 1 combo ( i am not glass cannon built)
how ever this seems to last forever , unless 1 of the thieves do an mistake, we can perma stealth vs eachother
so how can i win other thief. mostly i managed to drop 80% Hp of pro thieves with dagger storm after he run away.
i would like to see:
1. poison effect added on more skills
2. cloack and dagger effect changed to 10 stacks of vulnerability +blind + poison
3. an defensive buff (stability / protection /aegis /regeneration /steal health )
4 and most of all -an buff on vennom’s : passive effect (vennom trigger once at 20 seconds)

3. why run from thieves? you show them the back then complain about backstab
i rarely got more then 3000 from an dagger, usualy crits on me go at 1800 -2300 and i am not an bunker build, but comparing my stats with yours i assume you use rare armor set? , or your critical dmg is over 85% ? ( and that is not an defensive build )

If so, the attachement is redundant – from LA overflows you see ALL the waypoints that could go conteste as contested.

I can find a lot of ppls on cursed shoe because chain events , and good loot , an decent amount of ppls in forstgorge , but you find max 5-6 ppls that run for gathering in malchor. As well is extremly hard for newbies to take skill challange’s over there even in 3 ppls. Most of ppls who pass intro that map are lvl 76 in green armors, and i assume dificulty is designed for exotic.
i attached an general overwiev over the map , on my server is almost all contested ( screen took at 2 PM but situation in same at 3 am or 2 pm or 7 pm )

as an scepter/shield user : vs rangers /elementarists /mesmers / thieves /necro
i start with 1/2 dodge rolls to them to close the range gap, since my projectiles can be easy dodged: if they allow me get intro my favourite range 250 -350 i start with smite behind them and activate SY
warriors / engeniers i start with long range projectiles because i prefer to keep an ranged combat vs them. IF they try to close the range gap , i use smite imobilize and change on Focus/sword

i also use /dance at every thief that stealth after 20 seconds of fight and try to run away , usualy works , they rage and come back on fight
never had problems with badge drop rate
i rarely had party on WvWvW , sometimes went with “the zerg”, as an guardian
i managed to purchase 3 weapons on badges, 2 armor parts and i got arround 200-300 more badges.
Drop rate is arround 20%. So in an keep defence or assault you can make over 10 badges in less then 10 minutes. You got poor Aoe ? use arrow cart /balista / catapult.
IF you will go solo / hunt supply camps in smal groups you will not get high ammount of badges. Go in zerg vs zerg / spam aoe and don’t Die
