What the heck? This thread got necro’d hard……so in honor of that, my necromancer!
Okay I’ll try it, but does the 30 points in trickery really do so much? I feel like I’m wasting points because of the condition damage given from the line. I intend to use S/D+SB. I was kinda looking for a power dueling S/D build
Don’t be imposed by it, 30- I mean 6 in trickery is very welcoming to a sword build. Here’s why: You’ll get a higher initiative pool, You can get long reach or thrill of the crime, both very good traits the latter improving DPS, bountiful theft is another very good trait as it adds for more boon stealing and it prioritizes stability and aegis, and last but certainly not least, the almighty Sleight of Hand, which Dazes and reduces Steal CD by 20% on top of the already reduced recharge of 30% just by going 6 into trickery. This line gives the sword more mobility in an indirect way and allows for greater control of the opponent.
Combined with the agility and initiative regen acrobatics give you, this build sacrifices some dps for high amounts of evasion, which makes it a good dueling build. And don’t worry, you still hit reasonably hard, just not as hard as someone who will come in here with a build that goes 6 in Critical Strikes or Deadly Arts
(edited by RedSpectrum.1975)
Try 2/0/0/6/6 or 2/0/2/4/6 for sPvP, both work really well. Not as hard hitting as some other SD builds but much more tricky and agile. Major traits to worry about here are mug, sleight of hand and shadow’s embrace
The new ferocity change was an overall 10% decrease in DPS, however as many of us know, the balanced DD build 10/30 kitten , 2/6/6/0/0|0/6/6/2/0 relied heavily on crit damage via Hidden Killer. That being said your main source of damage decreased by around 30% since you rely so heavily on that crit damage. With this said, is this the death of the balanced builds? Does anyone have gear to compensate (it may seem Traveler Runes are now hindering and not helping this set) or will people be forced to go raw power for DD? On another note I see I rise in SD thieves
In regards to the change to Lyssa Runes, it seems the first few boons you receive are Protection. Regen and Swiftness.. it still cleanses Conditions but the boons are now pretty useless.
The boons you get should be based on the conditions it cleanses.
IIRC:
Fear->Stability (but you will never get it, because you can’t use Basilisk Venom if you are feared)
Cripple->Swiftness
Blind->Fury
Poison->Regeneration
Vulnerability->Protection
Weakness->Might (3 IIRC)Can’t remember what Chilled, Torment, Bleed and Burn give you though…
Chilled is either vigor or swiftness, but damaging conditions become regen
If you’re wearing soldier you might drop some of it for valkyrie, through this I was able to reduce the crit dmg loss to just 10% which I’m fine overall with.
Do you talk about wvw? For dd-backstab-builds the dmg-loss is more than 10%, its about 25-30%. I used valkyrie before so there is no way for me to compensate anything at all without losing the last bit of survivability. Fighting a condi-bunker is almost impossible now if the other player knows what he is doing.
So now i have the choise between playing a condi-build myself or changing the class. Great!
I think it should be the way that more damage means lesser survivability, but it should be the same for power and for condi-builds. Condi-builds have high damage and survivability now, thats the problem.
This is what I was saying as well, if you were a valk DD BS build where your damage was basically crits, this hit you hard
Before anyone says anything, your CRITS took a 30% nerf, but raw power did’t so its something like 10% overall. In theory. Now then if you were a Hidden Killer thief, this hurts you
power did not change but the point is crit damage, hidden killer still the same, crit damage is crappy. i got like 20% nerf. i did try to roam solo and with others thieves and just cant kill jack fast enough. its just so sad. anet wants definition of support type diversify crap is condi bunker build which takes 10 years to kill an experienced foe let alone a war or necro. they just laugh at you and spam emote while your just dishing out wet noodle condi damage on them, then they just run away if they feel bored.
I said power didn’t change, well ’did’t’ to be fair but HIdden Killer itself didnt change, but if you were a BS thief that relied on those backstabs, this hit you kinda hard

Hmm, I wonder where I saw this before?
looks at previous posts
Oh.
Idk what you’re talking about >_>
In 10/30/30/0/0 pre-patch Risen Plaguebearer:
4.1k Cloak and Dagger
7.4k BackstabPost-patch:
3.7k Cloak and Dagger
6.6k backstabI removed some toughness, increased hp and crit dmg a bit though.
Would it be too much to ask if you linked this balanced build?
….If what you say is true it seems the PD’s will have Shadow Arts to them now as it is too costly to invest that much into a non dmg tree for a “balanced build” but Ill have to see for myself…but if it’s true, kinda sucks
I too run your valk build but I havent actually ran with it yet to see if the numbers were drastically low…have you tried it?
Be good ion a power build as opposed to SoH? Yes the daze is powerful but the confusion would deter people from attacking yes? And a SD build with 30 in Trix would have decent condi dmg, but would it still be an alt to SoH?
By the way my original problem seemed to fix itself so thread change

I say give Necro dagger an evade! It needs it!

Hey guys, dont be kittens. At least someone felt like putting up the daily teef OP thread. Dukenukems i commend you
Looks at my post, I said we’re cats, not kittens >_>
But kittens are cute -_-
Kittens are pre-evil.
Also OP with the cute distractions
The only thing that made me wince was that in instances like the mesmer but mainly the thief, you had more than enough time to counter counter stomp him, your steal was even off CD! But other than that I enjoyed it
Summon Druid spirit would be so much better if it drew conditions in a much faster interval. It only does it like once per summon, if that. And grants regen like once per summon, if that. It does its attack well though.
And this concludes today’s exciting episode of “Ask the thieves questions!” Join us next time for when we ask if Bewildering Ambush has its place in power builds! *game show music plays for outro
Why is this in the thief forum?
What the hell are you holding? A soda can?
Why the hell is this expansion leak coming from a soda can?
Where the hell did this come from?
Why should we believe you?
Wtf?
Dahkeus I think Bewildering Ambush backfired on you I’d lay down for a bit.

i was hoping the patch would nerf all the things about the theif that were brokenly overpowered, sadly this was not the case.
they still can engage and escape without consequence with stealth while 3 to 6 people chase after them looking like fools because they can do nothing to stop them
they still do overwhelming damage to a single target thats broken by comparison to anyone else
they still chase down a target so easily with their constant dagger leaps and high no cooldowns
im aware that this is where theifs usually go to ask eachother how to be more OP so yea bring on the backlash…and dont say that ranger counters stealth…..it doesnt
1. You were hoping our stealth, evades and high single target damage would be nerfed, so you want free loot bags? Up levelds are there for that
2. If the thief disengaged, that’s a loss. And don’t group all thieves together. DP thieves are known for that, SD SP and maybe even DD thieves are in it to win it and cant escape easily. This is because DP can stealth at will. If they carry Shadow refuge and 3-6 people cant knock him out of it, something was wrong and you guys honestly deserved to be made into “fools”.
3.Thats what we are supposed to do, so while they are bursting one person, the other 2 to 5 should have been bursting him, oh and warriors say hello.
4. An experienced thief will not waste initiative chasing someone down for fear they will double back and retaliate when we are on our “cooldown”. Oh and initiative has its drawbacks, try a thief out sometime. Complain about Shadowstep steal and shadowsot (or Infil signet or Infil strike) or complain about spam, but dont complain about both, in fact, dont complain about any.
5. We dont ask each other how to be more OP, we normally ask each other how to even stand a chance since posts like this crippled us severely. Most thieves here dare I say arent even that classic cookiecutter backstab build so yeah. Oh and you’re a ranger? Thieves counter rangers, screw Sic’ Em. So it’s like a mouse complaining cats are OP, but even the cats have dogs to worry about. And I’ve seen some really nice rangers before so this is my first time saying it but it’s a l2p thing. Good day
Rune of Strength is probably a better workhorse power set. You’ve got 65% Might duration with 20 Acrobatics, and the +7% bonus from the #6 slot is easier to maintain than the 10% from Scholar’s. Eagle also seems good. Lyssa remains usable, mostly because of the #4 slot.
I am actually kind of intrigued by the new Rune of the Water set, though not for this specific build (where you need damage).
I see, yeah a couple of runes look interesting now, but as for now Ill do some number scrunching, thanks for the help
Okay thanks
…still not happy but at least they are there
I had the hoodie and shorts on one of my characters and now they are just…..gone. I look under the outfit tab and nothing is there, and I can’t even equip my default clothes, they are just taking space in my inventory but I dont want to just delete them
The new Sigil of Purity is looking good for the S/D Thief. It’s on-hit rather than on-crit now, and doesn’t go on cooldown unless it actually removes a condition.
That is looking mighty fine, which alleviates some pressure, psuedo omni heal every 45 seconds or pseudo constant heal every 10 seconds (?). So runes I was thinking power based like scholar, would you think that would be good or stick with Lysaa? Eagle look nice but this build doesnt focus on crits via chance or power, although those Lyssas give it a 40% chance
I dunno really, Im not sure how I feel about Lyssa runes now for my Mirage alt build, DD 0/30/30 i mean 0/6/6/2/0 may be okay but so far Im concerned about Lyssa
Working fine for me, may be a stupid question but do you have Hidden Thief trait up that stealths on steal? If so then CnD may be whats revealing you in that regard
phew…. I was getting worried for a second yea I was trying some build and forgot I had that trait on thank you
No problem
*flies away
Energy. Often, I’ll swap to SB because I’m on the defensive, and that extra dodge is a life saver. Also saves you some init from having to spam SB 3/SB 5.
Ooo that may be a good one as well…kitten
Sigil wise of course. I have fire, but I can’t decide between Purity, Air, or Bloodlust

Edit now that post-patch, I mean there is no edit but..had to rebump
I’m going to have a hard time getting used to people telling them my thief build is 0/6/6/2/0 or my necro is 0/6/4/0/4 etc, anyone else?
nice vid of you pressing 5, 2, 1.
you should try doing this in some pvp arena games, see how that works out for you.
And this is why this vid takes place in WvW
Someone has fought Priscilla the Crossbreed in Dark Souls recently
Probably one the most unnerving bosses in the game. Those dainty footsteps in the snow and then wham scythe to the face.
Missing half your HP or more too, kinda like, another game we know…

The thing about rangers is that Aiki is right to an extent. Yes, normally thieves eat rangers for breakfast, but like the thief class, most of the ranger class don’t know how to effectively pvp but for different reasons. For thieves it’s because someone got 3 shot by one and wanted to do the same and not bother to learn anything about the class as a whole, for ranger though, that class just promotes poor gameplay; sit back with a bow and let the pet do all of the work, which is why most are eaten by thieves, especially of the DD variety. Rangers in general don’t know how to deal with situations that require quick and active thinking. but find a skilled ranger and you’ll find that they are actually pretty darn tough to kill.
Dude, that DD ele at the end gave you a must have annoyed the hell out of you too :p all in all though, good fights as per usual
No one has commented on this yet?
I like the part where the thief did his downed interrupt right where your shadow return was

I must say the elegance of the kill brought tears upon mine eyes as I glorified in glee upon thy exquisite skill in regards to thine kill which be as fast an swift as the bosom of light shedded byeth the morning sun
(edited by RedSpectrum.1975)
10/0/10/20/30 is honestly my fav SD build, has nice condi clear too due to 10 in SA while offering nice evades and ini regen
Anyone can kill a thief, if you go in with the right strategy. Simply put, it’s really more a matter of how much skill each player has and what their build type is.
Who can kill a thief? Me. And anyone with enough skill and strategy.
Edit: Oh, and this is coming from a condition necro with no movement skills.
Youre still a condi necro, you dont need movement skills. I only have spectral walk on mine and thieves aren’t a problem
Boon control….I like that
Actually there are pretty good powerbuilds out there for necromancer.
Life siphon on dagger ain’t more then another utilitie skill.
I don’t see any issue about this one.As for the name of “attrition”, for me it’s more about “hindering” your foe then killing it with condition damage. And yes i think we lack a bit of hindering skills and are a bit to much over time damage focused. It would be wonderfull if we were trully master in cripple/root/chill which would be our trad of for our low mobility. Sadely we are not because people want more damage over time (And for these people dhuumfire has been created and parasitic contagion is about to come)
I agree although people associate attrition with conditions however I meant actually wearing your for down to death via conditions or perhaps even debuffs to prevent them from doing much
6/8 classes are OP? So really you mean 2/8 classes are UP?
It’s far less work bringing 2 up rather than 6 down
(edited by RedSpectrum.1975)
I hate to be that person but I have and always will dislike the idea of a power based necromancer. The class was supposed to be an attrition based class. If I wanted a power based class id use my thief or a warrior (nvr using a warrior). I understand the meta currently loves zerkers an I hate t for that reason as it makes every class want to have some power based build but I loved the classes for what they were tbh. The same way in which I’ll probably never make my thief a condition thief, I’ll never use a powermancer
Is it down now for anyone else?
That was nice, only thing though, I don’t see much stealthing potential with S/P anyway so putting stealthless in the title may not be needed.
