It’s only because te eh to jump on it doesn’t visibly look possible, as others have said Juno from the side, I don’t know why anet did tht as it tricked me for the longest time
Dancing dagger should just be remade into another skill, frankly. Would be interesting if the skill slot was occupied by something which copied the conditions on you back to the target.
I really want to see Dancing Dagger made into a single target rollover. For 2 initiative, throw a dagger and mark your target on a successful hit. 2 more initiative, shadowstep to and cripple your target.
This this has potential, but that dagger is in them on rollover, so would it still do DoT if the rollover skill isn’t activated?
It is already a smoke field. I have accidentally created Stealth combos through it before.
Is it? I’ve tried before and nothin happened, I’m going to test this out
EDIT: Wow he was right, just HS through it, dunno why it didn’t work for me before

If you’re backstabbing one……..Egads they’ve spotted me!! *flees out of subforum
I love the people that disagree with this. You are arguing against a starred post. I am indifferent but find it funny.
Let me get this right. You want to basically sit inside a 30 second smoke field with a thief npc which would constantly blind an opponent while you (player) face tank. Getting too close to you would result in a blind from the field, and attacking from range would result in permanent blindness. I have two questions.
1. How does this offer any counter play?
2. Can’t you do this already? Thieves have black powder on off hand pistol right. Y can’t you just stand next to the npc and spam it?This suggestion is essentially a 30 second invul on an 180 second cd.
If only the smoke field lasted 30 seconds….he doesn’t even use it constantly. Once when you first activate him, then a pause with unloading followed by another smoke field. he actually uses the smoke field sparsely when you someone him. He unloads even more times with out.

The title of this thread made me fall out of my chair
PvP: Thief
PvE: Thief /Necro
WvW: Thief/Necro
Clearly my main class in the elementalist
As a thought. I don’t know how “OP” the kids would call it these days, but I figured that the ranged thief summoned in thieves guild should drop a smoke field. He already kinda does but it’s not a field, it’s just a smoke effect that when he shoots through it, blinds foes. It would be a nice strategy to use him to stand in his field to bunker enemies that try to hit you or use the field for area stealthing. I just feel like simply adding an actual field would be a great idea, though I won’t speak for everyone.
And alternative is making the thieves able to do critical damage like other AI, however I feel as though this may be OP since getting critted from two AI thieves who attack rather fast as well as by the player who summoned them would be frustrating. Once again though, my opinion, I just think the shooting thief should drop a smoke field before his unload cycle.
EDIT: Tested this out, it actually is a combo field, just doesn’t have an aoe ring. So those of you that were indeed complaining that this would be “Ophee”, it already is !

Red’s second post in one day, I’ve gone rampant.
I was helping someone out the other day learning the class and they said that Thieves Guild is honestly one of the best elites in the game. While debatable, from a learning PoV, I agree. But as I’ve “grown” (Sylvari thief too so there’s a joke in there somewhere), I’ve started using elites like Basilisk Venom and Daggerstorm more. Heck I even tried the Druid Spirit once (don’t). But as I looked back, those two thieves have really helped me out through thick and thin when there were even no other players around to help me. One time they literally turned a 2v1 into a 3v2, like they literally kept one guy busy while I killed the other and then went to fight him and they were still living. Working in tandem too, one blinds while the other goes for the throat….
How do you guys view TG? Has it always been just another skill to you? Or have you trusted them with your lives for a time? You may very well even hate them, but I for one would like to take this time to reflect what they’ve done for me (wish I had an attachment right now :p )
We can all agree that the general thief player is looked up to if they seem to be good at killing other players. But, what is the general opinion of seasoned PvE thieves? It seems to be evident that PvE is waved away or shrugged off when it comes to a measure of a players worth. Though I feel that some instances, especially for a thief, can’t be done by just anybody. Also to add, we are hated in dungeon groups, in general. At least from what I’ve read. I have personally never had a problem getting a PUG group (and I’m full zerker lol, just don’t say anything and they’ll think you are). In dungeons, minus the very first time (obviously) I’ve proven to hold my worth better than other classes that should be better. And I’m sure many of you have as well. But I’m rambling on at this point, to the main point of the thread:
Shouldn’t we respect PvE thieves as well? Some dungeons are flat out notorious. Not to mention our class isn’t exactly PvE friendly. I feel as though we give too much attention to the PvPers. And yet some of us do this content regularly at least clearing our name for the others behind them instead of being just another statistic. We should see some more PvE vids.
.. i never pretended to be good…. or did i?
This makes two of us.
So you two are finally admitting you’re part of the Nightmare Court? :P
They never said that. Maybe they just simply believe not all things have a right to grow.
Red, this shealt is the automatic in art shadown
Yeah I know, I was making a point of how for once it did its job and not got you killed
Dark Souls 2 is incredible but it won’t do damage to this game. Two completely different games, so is WatchDogs and Infamous<—and this is mainly single player. On your logic, where is Destiny? That comes out this year. In summary, I personally think GW will be fine as a whole.
? Why is shortbow the……ahh the data took a cumulative approach and since everyone and their mother runs SB secondary…….yeah
Whatever you smoke OP, stop using it.
It clearly gets you only hallucinations … I guess, you inhaled way too much of the Miasma lately while defending L.A.
Its toxin lets you see hallucinations …
But but but, it’s there! you can see it : O
For starters, tell us how you like to play, and don’t worry so much about warriors engineers and necromancers, 2 out of those 3 are our natural counter, the warrior however is just so loved by Anet.
And the forums aren’t so bad. Word has it that someone in the Thief community bakes cookies but I haven’t found out who they are yet.
@OP,
Go to Characters Panel, Create a thief, lvl him up to 80, equip him with exotics, go to WvW, find a Guardian/Warrior/Mesmer/Engineer/Necromancer group, come back here and tell us how easy was that fight for you.
Fix’d, has to add those two since the conditions hurt like hell. Well the engineer since they burst you with conditions and the necromancer because of their 360 degree fighting style. Funny too since they can kill you and play 100% defensively the whole time.
S/D is nowhere near as popular as any D/X set or S/P, but it’s still seen, certainly (wouldn’t call it meta though, especially since I hear that Sizer isn’t playing S/D any more). It’s a good weapon set with a slightly higher skill floor, but the learning curve and skill ceiling are both tremendous.
Some examples of trait setups:
10 30 0 30 0
10 30 0 0 30
0 30 0 30 10
10 0 0 30 30 (my creation. Nobody plays it apart from me, but it’s easily as effective as the other builds are IMO. Bunch of scrubs who haven’t analyzed the build- much less used it in even a single match- like to criticize me for it though. Whatever, y’know?)
Arganthium, as a thief who loves being stealthy I decided to go in acro for PvP, whilst looking for a build I stumbled upon yours. It is now my PvP build. Has been for about 2 months now. It is actually incredibly fun and has even taken out warriors who’ve invested nearly everything in survivability for a build that invests little into damage trait wise. So I too play your build, don’t get rash now.
What I love most about it is that I so far have never once ran out of initiative. The only thing the build falls short for is condition burst builds and it seems to be 1:1 with D/P burst 10/30/0/0/30 builds which really surprised me. So yeah Argy’s build is pretty legit, I suggest you guys check it out.

Anyone else see Last Refuge fix its kitten at 5:53?
Ok so they nerf step stomping, the the only class we can’t stomp is elementalist. Step stomping is only done when revealed or when you lack blinds. Even stomping a thief is as easy as the push of a button
Nobody can stomp ele. Well, they can, if they immobilizes them first, but their so quick to hit mist-form you rarely get to do that even if you know they gonna mist-form.
It is not about the stomping, it is about counter-play. There is none. You stealth, initiate stomp, shadowstep back, wait for animation, shadowsteps to target. In that time, you drop the enemies target, moves out of counter-play range, moves in and get 100% success-rate (unless your timing is off or skill-lag). Atleast when stealthed, enemies can in rare cases down you by spamming stones all over the place or fear you off. Everything should have some form of counterplay, no matter how lame or hard it is. Step-stomp prevents all counters, even the ones when you rely on others.
Actually, if they must form near instantly, that sets them up to be shadow stepped stomped. As log as they stay within a 1200 radius from you, and you predict where they’ll stop, you’ll finish the stomp, it’s jut that it requires them to mist immediately and is so hard to pull off because of that, effectively letting the thief stomp every class however, with stealth stomping taking care of more than half of the classes
Wtf? This smells rotten……yup I sense necromancy at work here >_> but I’m in need of more flavores, at this point id even welcome a torch for a thief
Beautiful Necro & Ranger 2v1 that was a highlight
The necro was doing quite well, the ranger had god awful timing and gear (that was pure zerker or celestial). Also, the way he/she built their toon just brought shame on the ranger community as a whole. Running Signet of Stone, means you should be running a signet build (or you are gimping yourself) and not using it when attacked and in a tight spot is simply poor play. If the ranger had stuck to the GS, it may have had a chance to land a lucky maul or used the block to knock you back and then they would have most likely ended the fight…. but ofc, had to switch to the LB….
@OP
But in general, that is some very good thief play. Nice timing and evades. Seeing as you play on TC, maybe we can team up. Been a long time since i went duo roaming.@whatever anet-employee lurking on these forums
Still kittenes me off that you guys/gals hasn’t nerfed the shadowstep+stomp thing yet. It is beyond OP to be able to move out of range of any intercept. Stealth stomping is bad enough as is.

There is much afowl about this.
Get out. Now. Not after that pun.
The term here would be anagram
EDIT: Cenex, how dare you ninja me.
On-demand stealth no matter the occasion for less initative just makes the CnD/Stab build concept worth nothing, especially because it was more potent before due to the initiative regen upon attempting to stealth.
Just going to do a little correction here: CnD costs 6 initiative, BP + HS costs 9 or 4 and 7 with infusion of shadow respectively.
This has been mentioned awhile ago by I feel like it needs to be revisited
I gotta say, I have to personally disagree with most of you. I found out the wonders of D/P a long time ago in late December of 2012. I loved it because, at the time, it wasn’t the meta, it was a freak build. People complained I was “trolling”. But then somehow, everyone started playing it. In not making the “I did it before everyone else” claim, because I don’t know if someone played it earlier, but as time has gone on, and I have played other builds, it has been very funny, for me, to watch this build blossom from “troll” to “OP”!
I personally “blame” Iohanna

Clips 3 and 4 are similar, but I left out some major details in there I think, I’d say I did a pretty kitten good job though
I’m in the same boat as OP,
I play D/P because it’s incredibly effective, utilizes all its skills and gets results.
But D/D has the far more compelling play-style. Especially the ability to seamlessly “crowd-surf” with Cloak and Dagger is very cool. It’s also a fairer build to compete against as Cloak and Dagger can be countered. But urgh, it’s so simplistic with such a limited tool-set it really isn’t all that effective.
I’d love to see the seamless and compelling play-style of D/D combined with the effectiveness and utility of D/P.
I was thinking this, but when you see it in words, it honestly will sound like the most OP thing we’ll get. My chalice of tears is empty and needs refilling.
As for the OP itself, what defines a player isn’t how many mistakes you make, but rather how you learn from them and spring back from them. I wasn’t behind the keyboard so I don’t know the exact mistakes you made to a key. I only have a rough idea, for instance in the first clip idk if you purposely flanking strike’d inside the shadow refuge or not but it happened and you got revealed. Either way, despite the “mistakes” you made, you clearly corrected yourself rather quickly considering you lived to tell about it, and if the mistakes were as bad as you thought, you more than likely would have been on the ground far sooner since the class is not forgiving with mistakes.
I’m actually interested in the S/D build you used though. Arganthium made a build like it for PvP but instead of Shadow Arts, it goes full 30 in Acrobatics for more evades and more initiative regeneration. It’s really fun to play but it works for PvP since you don’t need to stealth nearly as much. So I actually give you some respect in that field too since Shadow Arts gives us everything except constant initiative regen (not counting infusion of shadow, that’s only when you stealth) so you have to work slightly harder to maintain initiative. I don’t blame you since condition clearing is a must.
As for the condi version, I don’t have too much to say, I personally don’t use P/D builds, although I may try out a power based one, Shadow Strike apparently hits rather kitten hard. Even still, you need to get close to at least Cloak and Dagger so there’s always the risk of being countered. Maintaining endurance for evades when needed is also a thing. As i said above I like how you also seemed to use S. Wire to set up your geomancy sigils.
All in all due to the lack of common underboob, this video is meh…….nah keep it up OP. Some builds may be common, but not the people using it, they all have their own flavor they add. But no seriously some underboob is indeed welcome >_>
Just to clear up any confusion, there is no guessing. The rune’s #6 is indeed, exactly, indubitably, undeniably, unmistakably, irrefutably, incontrovertibly, incontestably, unquestionably, unarguably, and my personal favorite, beyond a shadow of a doubt-ably
Any chance on posting your build?
What’s the logic behind using scorpion wire in the condi build? Are you mainly just trying to score interrupts for the perplexity stacks?
If you notice he had superior sigil of blood (those rock pillars that bursted around him) he pulls them into the radius of them rocks and then switches weapons(another P/D) to get more bleed stacks on them, pretty innovative if you ask me
Sigil of geomancy, I believe, but yes that’s actually a convenient way to set that up. I just wonder if it’s worth something like a blinding powder, especially since he’s going to be getting in close to land CnDs anyways.
Geomancy yeah, was thinking about the blood it inflicts :/ He was probably just being innovative. Blinding powder would definitely be an alternative.

Out of contexts with the game, 750 is a pretty large number. He hit someone with a pretty large number, backstab is indeed OP. Its needs a 66% nerf to damage. It’s completely unfair how a thief can stealth off of me and then unload a spike of damage in a very short amount of time. Like give other classes a break, it’s bad enough they have cooldowns. The warrior is a basic class and shouldn’t have to deal with the tricks and traps other classes have, especially thieves. It’s just plain unfair. Elementalists have low armor and health so a thief can chew them up in seconds if they are caught off guard. And there is no reason a ranger should crap their pants the instant they see a thief coming. This class is just so broken. I tested out my thief the other day and went into WvW, forget 750, I hit someone with a 5,702 backstab. How broken is that! Not to mention it’s set up with Cloak and Dagger!? That skill in of itself is powerful. I hit a rabbit and it did a 300k crit!! If this doesn’t seem broken, then I- I don’t know what is anymore
I have no words for that magazine…….I- does that say sylvariphilia._.?
Yep! The word should be lachanophilia, which means obsessive love of vegetables. But Sylvari-phillia is more recognizable.
I actually thought it was a form of dendrophilia (tree paraphilia). Doesnt matter i always thought sylvari would make the most loyal romance partners anyway
Yeah, expectations are reserved for the runes and sigils, award system specs, but would want:
…More Emotes
…Increase in weapon skills/weapons in general
…Build templates (doesn’t need to be armor/weapon inclusive, just builds would be fine with me)
…Dungeon tracker per character (for story, would like to know who needs what)
…Precursor acquisition beyond toilet/super secret squirrel hiding nuts rng drop
…New Race
Fixed little buddy
Welcome brother.
So yer interested in our thief nerfs? plz pick a table and tell uz whuat u’d liek from our delightful menu and we’ll have et delivered hto and fresh to ur tables.
Possibly one of the best pictures relevant to the game, and no one has commented on it.
I have.
I wanted to thank all you that took the the time to help me with my thief, I really learned a lot here.
Though I need massive work on the Cloak and Dagger, then steal technique. I am doing just as the hand goes back but only end up being invisible 20% of the time. So going to practice, practice, practice.
Just in case there is confusion but I’m sure there’s none, you don’t wait for anything before stealing, like the millisecond you press your CnD button, you steal and your character will do the rest….. Well not really but you know why I mean
You’ve all seen what the sylvari did to Lion’s Arch. All sylvari should be hunted down and handed over to the charr to be used as firewood at meatoberfest. No sylvari can be trusted. The Pale Tree must be destroyed!
You do realize that species or cultures who are threatened with genocide tend to multiply? Right???
Take coyotes. Where I live, regular coyote hunts isn’t allowed because it causes the female coyotes to produce more pups.
In the case of Sylvari: If you kill or persecute the salad people, then they will take root and multiply. Their bodies will eventually adapt and evolve, and they will become a stronger force than the humans, norn, and charr put together. Scarlet Briar was proof that there are geniuses in their group, and they will eventually rival the Asura anyways.
There are even recorded cases on the Tarnished Coast of Sylvari having intimate relations with members of the other races (esp. the Asura ). Look at the bottom left corner of the cover of the January issue of PlaySura if you don’t believe me. A bunch of Asura got caught getting it on with their leafy friends. It’s been the talk in Rata Sum since the beginning of the year.
Knowing the Asura, I wouldn’t be surprised if they come up with a way make half plant / half Asura progeny. We did fight a sylvari / krait hybrid in the Nightmare Tower, so it’s not as far fetched as it sounds.

Assassins became Thief because they lost all honor in fighting! Now you’re the kind of dirty rats 2hit killing people out from nowhere and gone to nowhere!
End of StoryI feel someone got hid kitten handed to him today
True. Sadly there is no Thief you can trust. In WWW they’re quite a big trouble for my Ranger…
Y’know what? Thief Initiative should be Ranger’s!
And then, Thieves should get back GW1’s Assassin chain-skill methood, as well as Warriors should get back the adrenaline-building skill useages instead of stupid CDs.Sorry if I were rude, but … just try to play Ranger versus anyone who isn’t braindead.
“Nerf the cheetah” said the gazelle to mother nature………
(edited by RedSpectrum.1975)
I think my sylvari would make several fancy rugs before she became firewood, not that it’ll ever happen because sylvari are a proud and terrifying race….they just don’t know it yet
What: The name ‘Thief"
Why: It is the shortest profession to type into the chat and therefore a team can tell their ’thiefs’ to go to point A faster than the opposing team can tell their warriors to go to point A. This is absolutely unfair.
Is b venom affected?
@NinjaEd:
Isn’t the rune on a 50s ICD?
No, the rune 6 is on a 45 second cooldown, same as Basilisk Venom, I use that skill only because that skill tells me exactly when I can get the sweet condi removal again :/
This thread is a year old, this is the Thief sub forum guys not the necromancer sub forum
I’m confused is this thread about boobs or assassins ?
They say that among all the illusterious practitioneers of the craft the name of Slith stands supreme. I dare to disgree. I say that Slith lived in easier times and that the manner of his death has given him a mystical aura that was not matched by his skill.
The pinacle of the craft is represented by none other than Nuth. Of all the many arguments supporting that I will mention only one. Even in this modern day and age of competition and reason Nuth does not have to advertise the services he offers…
