but after that… what?

Cant do dungeons without risk of high repair costs
cant wp coz of high in game tax

Is this gonna be another guildwars after they said its not like guildwars, where I just turn it on to kill people in sPVP?

Is it?

Who knows?

I will when I get 100 percent map.

Also to people who say, go make another toon and do the story line.
Lets see the story lines work like this, think of an upside down evolutionary tree where everything comes back to one point.

That point being the death of zhaitan.

Now up to level 30 each race has different storylines, then you join the factions, even then factions have similar storylines, after that, traherne becomes pact commander, its all leading up to one common point.

Do I wanna do all that work?

No thanks rather not, I offer my services to help newbies out with their personal story woes.

As much as I loved RIFT you have to admit it’s not without the issues (and since we’re on topic of dynamic events neither was WAR for obvious reasons), how many times I couldn’t do anything good because there wasn’t any people around.

I am really sorry, guys, though, I am on Tarnished Coast, and I’ve seen nothing but great populations in all areas, you’re welcome to switch. And I know I am starting a kittenstorm by suggesting people move away from already ghost town servers, but I guess I just lucked out, everything people complain about in these forums, I just can’t bring myself to apply to TC, and I am not even in the guild, though I am anxious to join one in anticipation of my upcoming 80 when I want to dedicate my time for some dungeons and crafting.

I was actually from TC before I moved to JQ.

No one in the level 80 zones during non american hours

As others have pointed out.

The problem is the game isnt fun to play. GW1 didnt offer much in the way of rewards, even though it was better than this game. Still, the combat was lots of fun, so i would literally play the game for fun.

With GW2 this doesnt happen. I’m bored quite fast. Not beeing any meaningful rewards to at least drag me along, there really is zero reasons to keep playing,

Indeed considering the mobs in dungeons are giant hp pools who cut you down to size in a matter of 3-4 hits.

Its a drag and a difficult one, but hey I enjoy the challenge, its just at the end of it, I’d like a stable monetary reward.

Really?… /facepalm

Most mountains can be scaled with the right know how. Many people, like myself, enjoy finding all of those little shortcuts. I’ve probably been on top of areas many other haven’t gotten to yet.

As for watching cutscenes.. no. No you do not have to watch anything. Whether it’s storymode, Scouts or Vistas, you can stop them. Story-mode you can skip to the end with one click. Scouts, just hit M again. Vistas, move your mouse to the lower right and click the exit button.

When it comes to bugged things.. submit a report. They’ll get fixed. They just did a few broken DE fixes not long ago.

The whole part of a gaming world is the exploration. It’s fun. if you don’t like exploring, you could always just go level up in pvp lol

Just because you enjoy something doesn’t mean everyone else enjoys doing it.

I enjoy being rewarded. It’s not the reason I play a game. It’s the reason I have a job. I already have a job. I don’t look to games for “rewards”. They’re nice. They’re fun. They’re not why I play a game.

If you’re talking about your monthly pay thats not a reward lol.
If that was a reward its bordering with slavery XD

But if you’re talking about the sense of accomplishment, I get you.
Thats a real sense of accomplishment at your work but to feel a sense of accomplishment over a video game… Kinda hard to do.

Nobody is saying they’re exactly the same. What many of us are saying, myself included, is that they’re no substitute for skill; that a good player in blues or even whites will be a much better person to bring into a dungeon run than some scrub in exotics who zergs, death-runs, and completely ignores support and control.

You really believe that? Gear is quite a big difference. If players are equally matched, gear will take the ruling. If someone is on a slight advantage with skill, the gear will take the ruling. Do you know how much health, damage, precision..ect you get from whites or blues going to exotics?

Yea this game takes skill for sure, but don’t over-exaggerate things, skill is not the #1 defining force here

I offered someone who doesnt believe in your sentiments to come do explorable mode arah i me with a group of other people in nothing but white gear.

They declined.

Where does it create this gap? PvP? WvWvW? Nope everything is normalized there.

You do know that you can get exotics for very little, right? It doesn’t require a ridiculous amount of time like you imply it does. A full set of exotics can be crafted, bought off the TP… or you could buy a set off a vendor for 8g 88s.

Of course its easy!
According to you, I suck at this game and Im already fully geared.
If I can do it, any noob can.

But this isn’t about how easy it is to attain Exotic gear, this is about how people keep thinking rares and exotics are the samething only one looks better.

I think it’s kind of hilarious that people have gotten so indoctrinated into the mentality of grinding and rushing through games using any loophole possible…that they actually, honestly don’t know how to play. Here’s a news flash… no MMORPG was really intended to be played that way. They just chose not to stop you from ruining your own experience for so long that you started thinking that actually WAS the experience.

Months and months ago, as I thought carefully about the game’s mechanics and their potential effect on the community…I figured that the game would really slow players down, get them exploring and feeling immersed, and get them enjoying the journey again, instead of just the extremely short-lived thrill of the meaningless never-ending ladder climbing sprint that most MMORPGs have been in the last decade. The bird seed those games drop every 10th time you peck the button doesn’t ever actually taste good…but maybe next time it will…

What I didn’t realize was exactly how resistant people would be to the reprogramming. It’s fairly astounding.

Want to know how to play a game? I’ll try to help. Stop looking for the fastest way to finish. Stop looking for the “best” everything. Stop looking at the numbers. Stop trying to shortcut or find the loopholes or game the system. If you KNOW that you got less experience this mob then you did on the last mob…you’re doing it wrong. Just play. The loot and levels and rewards will all flow naturally, and you’ll get a much longer, deeper, meaningful play experience. Maybe you’ll even find that you’re sticking around long enough to form server and game communities that are worthwhile and really add something to the game.

Play for fun… play because you enjoy the game play itself. Wander and explore and experience the stories and characters for their own sake. Take pride in learning to play the combat really well, knowing your profession, etc. If you don’t enjoy the game play, move on, because there’s no magical carrot at the end of the stick that is going to make it all worthwhile. This game IS the moment-to-moment game play that you experience just exploring and taking part in the world. It’s not some appetizer for 80 levels where you do things you don’t like in order to get to the “fun stuff”.

People complaining about anti-farm code sound a lot like 6-year-olds when you try to teach them organized sports.

“No, little Billy, you can’t kick three soccer balls around on the field in order to score points faster.”
“But…but…” throws up hands in disgust, “this game is IMPOSSIBLE!!”

ALL games for people older than about five involve playing within a set of rules. It’s actually really refreshing to see ArenaNet attempting to nudge people into playing the game the way it was intended, instead of allowing the shortcuts and loopholes that typically make a large part of most MMORPGs completely meaningless.

Okay Imma stop you at “rushing” the rest of your statement is just you thinking you’re better than other people because they lack your attitude and are going,
WAAAHH TOO HARD DONT PLAY KTHXBAI

Let me try to explain something for you, its called pacing…
Could it possibly be you play at a slower rate than other people or do you think that anyone whos leveling up faster than you is rushing.

Heres an example, Look at a marathon, a 24k CHARITY marathon.
Are those running faster, trying to finish the marathon faster or do you think maybe they just have a faster pace than those running behind.

Notice the missing 2 its time for a little nostalgia.

If you’ve never played guildwars before this is going to confuse a little and I’m sorry but we’re going to be talking about the similarities in the gear mechanics in both games.

In Guildwars: Elite 15k Armour = 1.5k Armour.

They have the exact same stats, the only difference is the looks.
You have upgrades for your weapons, certain upgrades are worth more others because they are value for their small minor but invaluable modification.

the 20/20 set, 20 percent chance to half recharge time of spells of item’s attribute on focus and main hand. and using both means 40 percent chance this effect will trigger Mostly used by spell casters.

And the 15^50 for martial weapon users. Means deal 15 percent more damage whilst health is above 50. 15 is a pretty small number right? But people still want this for their martial weapon.

Now if you don’t understand this concept of gear + upgrade from playing guildwars, this is the reason why you’ve not reached rank 1 gladiator and why you’ve been losing in Fort Aspenwood, Random Arenas and Jade Quarry

Now Guildwars 2

Exotics =/= Rares.
Have a good look at exotic gear of the same trait and do the maths…
It’s been estimated that exotic gear gives a player a 13 – 20 percent increase in efficiency, Now what was the percentage for the Martial weapon? 15 percent.

If you wanted to play a conditioner, you’re going to get a rampager set because that increases your condition damage

If you want to play a spike build, you’re going to get the berserker set because that allows for you to hit harder and spike harder.

Do stats matter? Yes they help you play your role more effectively.
Do stats give you an upper hand? No they don’t they’re standardized, and if you meet someone of a lower eq tier than you, dont get arrogant, its you just have a small upperhand, it’ll still boil down to skill.

Now Im not a hardcore PVPer or a PVEer, Guildwars was a casual game for me, I enjoyed the story, I loved the PVP. The PVP is like no other PVP Ive experienced in any other game, the whole reason why you defeated someone else is because you were better than them (that or you used a gimmicky pvx wiki build which any intelligent player can counter) but it still boiled down to your skill and how you’ve set up your build because your gear is standardized.

Now do you think it boils down to just skill when its rares vs exotics, 13 – 20 percent difference, think about it.

Guildwars2 gear mechanic is not much different than this.
There is a base tier for you to be performing at the optimum level and that tier is called Exotic.

WvWvW still relies on your pve gear and I would love for people to be able to get the crafted exotic gears Draconic, Emblazoned, I forgot what the light armour is called.

but this is where sPVP got it right, it neutralized eq advantage completely to the point you have the freedom to adjust your gear according to what you need to be doing.

And frankly the PVP is one of the most enjoyable aspects of games from ArenaNet they do a wonderful job of a balancing
cough except for fort aspenwood when they decided its fair to let turtle seige attacks do full damage through walls cough

Its currently the only thing that keeps me playing Gw2 now its worth the time and it feels good.

Im not afraid of letting people having exotic in WvWvW so we can go head to head with absolutely zero gear advantage.

So there we go, Exotic and Rares are not the same, exotics is not the visually aesthetic version of rares , Exotics are the base gear you should have to be fully optimized and dungeon exotics are their “elite counter part” along with Legendaries.

Why does striving to be the most powerful = snooze or not fun? Yet spending god knows how many hours for a skin is more fun? Why is it that wanting to have powerful characters so nish-nish these days?

Powerful doesn’t necessarily mean facerolling or making things more boring… Powerful gives you more leeway in what you can pull off. When I say powerful, I’m not talking Diablo 2 lvl 99 fully decked out toon that’s unkillable… I’m saying more like Mario with the flower power for fireballs; I’m powerful, but not game-breakingly powerful.

I know the game is not the holy trinity persay, but some classses clearly specialize in areas over others. I like GW2 because we work together through synergy of DPS and support skills rather than some holy trinity of specializing in one specific roll. Just because there’s no actual trinity doesn’t mean there are pros and cons to every class…. being powerful though amplifies your strengths and lessens your weaknesses. It lets you get away with more which allows you to be more aggressive… What’s wrong with that?

Because one of the aspects of this game is SKILLED PVP.
Since the first game, which is why your gear is all standardized.

Exotics is the base for a level 80 to be fully effective.
It will give a small upperhand against someone inrares but its still an upperhad.

What do you think would make you feel more accomplished in PVP?
Killing someone because all forms of unfair equipment stats are removed and the main reason you defeated them is using your skills.

Or that you cookie cutter them through with powerful gear.

Personally I prefer the first option, when I best someone in PVP I know its my skills as a player which defeated them, not the things im holding.

Im sorry but…
Gw2 = MMORPG

And see, therein lies your problem; you have this asinine preconception that all MMO’s have to be the same, and that the only thing that makes an MMO is some progression-based gear treadmill. And that’s like saying the only thing that makes a first-person shooter is prone and weapon customization, or the only thing that makes a fighting game is eight-way run and weapons.

No. The only things that make an MMO are in its name sake.

MMO: Massive Multiplayer Online
RPG: Role Playing Game

That’s all that’s required to make an MMORPG what it is. The genre’s not called an MMOGTLFRPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Gear Treadmill Loot Fest Role Playing Game).

So guildwars failed the first time around because it rewarded its players for doing something liked?

In my case I liked te PVP and I should never had been able to buy 15k elite gear from PVE because Im a PVPer

So now they’re gonna correct it by making a clear and definite boundary between PVP and PVE, You like PVP? Stay in PVP, you like PVE stay in PVE

Because Im finding PVP a whole lot more enjoyable right now.

Im interested to know exactly what it is you do in GW2 and why you think is fine for them to punish players as such for trying to keep up with the bills exploring their contents and trying to get the base gear at level 80 the crafted exotic gear

And like how many level 80s do you have and are they suited up with exotics yet?

Coz both of mine are, and I have no reason now to play PVE so Ill just continue with PVP and have fun there, no biggy for me really.

I mean I’m not afraid of people getting the same statistical gear as I am and being a better player and besting me in combat, just means Id have to work harder and repay them the favour.

Are you afraid of people getting full exotic and then being more skillful players than you and beating you everytime? is that why youd like for them to stay in rares telling them that exotics and rares are samethings?

@Dusk, OOOHHHH FIGHTING GAMES AND FPS!!! AHHH I get you
Im sorry but…
Gw2 = MMORPG
Guildwars = MMORPG
We = Talking about MMORPG

Now if you wanna talk FPSes have you heard Killing Floor?
It rewards you by making you level up perks and have a specific role in a group or playstyle you’re comfortable with. It’s like right on par with Left 4 Dead.

Ohh really TF2 was a clear inspiration for having an Engineer? You sure it wasnt just because tyria moved 250 years into the future and it would make sense to have Machines of war?

So thief = spy? You sure the thief profession was not inspired from the game THIEF?

More powerful loot?
Im sorry, Im in exotic gear, how more powerful is my gear supposed to be?

I thought Anet wanted to get rid of the whole EQ = imbalance in PVP by making gear standardized and that Exotics are the base gear for level 80 much like a 1.5k non elite armour was in guilwars.

Im not asking for more powerful “lootz” as you say, Im asking a more rewarding system that doesnt make doing anything in PVE feel asinine, mundane and boring to the point all I wanna do is just focus on PVP and kill people on a 70 dollar game and not punish me for doing things to pay the stupid ingame taxes by thinking im a bot.

I did read it. I came up on this part:

Now throw in the diminishing returns

And knew you were talking about same-event farming, because that doesn’t happen to people that do different DE’s as they play the game. So yes, I’m correct; you’re complaining that ArenaNet turned off a low-risk/low-effort, high reward karma fountain. Spread out, do different events, find different things to do instead of sitting in one spot doing the same event over and over, and those diminishing returns will disappear.

Not at all. I typically start with the escort to penetant, defend, move to the next outpost, defend, move to the next and defend, defend melandru, go do grenth or arah if they are active. By the time I am halfway through with the second defend, the loot has already dropped off. Only takes one more DE of anything after the second defend and the karma is dropping off. Bad design or combating bots. Take your pick. But thats just my experience.

He likes having his opinion heard

And yup its a very bad design for combating bots.
Because bots can teleport places, they dont really farm DE, well the gold bots anyways they want resources to sell at marketplace for profit, they’re node hunters.

What GW2 has done is make it so that you suffer for killing mobs but BOTs that are programmed for hunting nodes arent effected.

Once they realize this, node drops will be significantly diminished too.

Basically it works like this. I have a life, a job, a wife, and kids. There may be times that I am unable to get online and play. Now lets say its a Saturday afternoon, and I want to play for several hours to make up time I missed during the week. The way things are right now in GW2, I can not do that. Because once I play for an hour, I am capped on what I get for the effort.

So in a way, I can not play this game how I want to. I can not get online one day and play for several hours doing something I enjoy doing because Anet has decided that’s not the way they want their game to work.

So for those who use the argument “So you want things right now?” I say this is, it is NOT about wanting and getting right now…it is about playing the game like I want to or enjoy doing. It is not a good long term business decision to limit/prevent players from playing as their life allows them to.

You can play as long as you like. You just can’t farm the same thing over and over and over again.

And you dont see this as a problem?

And um the farming will sooner or later think you’re a bot.

Also dungeon runing story mode gives you 3 silvers now and your repair bills are still gonna be high.

Way pointing…. heh I hope you like walking buddy

But HAY! welcome to being 80! nice to meet you

What the hell are you guys talking about? Go explore. Go quest. Meet new races. Go to a different city or something. Meet new people and go to a meta-event dungeon if you want something harder before level 30. Please do not ruin GW2 for the rest of us.

Id rather kill them in PVP actually
PVE: Nothing for me here. OOOH WELL
70 bucks for a pvp game.

Have you actually tried the PVP side of things. Try being on the losing side when one of the opposing teams controls 95% of the map AND has the 3 orb buff (15% hp, and +150 stats). When it is literally beating your head on a wall just trying to get 200 feet past a waypoint, and Knowing that you still have a WEEK of this insanity until you can try again.

wvwvw??
Nah only the sPVP its like their old random arena without the worry for a healer to come on your team

plus in sPVP you can see people who use the zerg technique suffer losses.

The problem with WvWvW is the terrain. It allows zerging to be effective.
Most paths are small enough that a large enough AOE coming from multiple sources can disorient and overwhelm a smaller zerg party, You might aswell just make it so everyone in wvwvw is a ele and has perma tornado form thats what it feels like.

So yeah I’m avoiding that, Look at Dark Age of Camelot’s wvwvw or should I say Realm Vs Realm terrain makes it so that zerging is ineffective, you form a zerg group, another group can easily move away from you.
Realm vs Realm in DaoC people organize themselves to do frontline backline and skirmish

You try zerging one or 2 people in sPVP you get what? 10 – 20 points while the rest of their group completely avoids your group and caps 2 of your areas for 40 points a piece?

I am already finished with this game overall. I paid for it, therefore, I will still occasionally log on, or read forums. But overall, I can’t do it any longer, nor will I purchase any future Anet titles.

I play games because I am given the freedom to play them as I enjoy playing them. I feel like GW2 is taking back to pre-school. Being told what I can do and how often I can do it. I am forced to play it like THEY want me to.

I can understand if it included exploits, but seriously, come on. Stop limiting peoples enjoyment of the game only based on what YOU feel we should be doing. Telling people how they can play, and what they can do when they play…it is bad business in the gaming world.

And to those saying there’s a lot to do….there may be, for YOU. Everyone enjoys playing games differently, that’s the joy of them. The complaints here are that those of us who enjoy one way, are being forced to play it another way. If you enjoy the game, then go play it. I for one refuse to play a game where I am limited in what I can do to enjoy it.

This is why we can’t have nice things.
Game Designer: Ok we made a game that gives you freedom. Have fun!
Player: This sucks, there’s not enough to do and I’m level 80 and no one else is here
Game Designer: Alright no problem, we added some mechanics a long the way to help slow you down and enjoy the game more
Player: WTF! I’m still level 20 after 3 days! This game sucks!
Game Designer: Ok…..
EA: We got this

Oh I forgot to add The Secret World example.
Funcom: Literally do whatever you want. Whatever. You. Want. with your class.
Player: Why does my character die so much? This game is unbalanced and sucks.
Funcom: kitten

Dont you have to pay subscription for that also?

Coz pistols + chaos magic sounds fun

Yum... bots

The same way Low Ping follows around Flintlocke I guess.

I doubt anyone would get this reference but if you do, 1000 cool points to you.

His point is that Anet is basically saying that once you hit 80 you are not allowed to play the game for more than 30 mins at at time anymore.

Which is ridiculous hyperbole to begin with.

No not really its true, the ingame tax is expensive, if you want to do things efficiently by taking wp you can see your wallet shrivel up.

But you know if you like walking and stuff, its still doable.

Hes not gonna dungeon coz its too expensive if his team makes a single mistake
And if hes like me and doesnt even care for the exotic dungeon armour or weapons, theres absolutly no reason to risk your wallet ingame for an experience you can live without.

You can say “No ones forcing you to play dungeons” exactly my point no ones forcing therefore I dont have or need to do it. But really is that dungeons are for now? So that Dungeon Designers can be like, oh well not many people are going to see my dungeon so sad.

Pretty soon when those “pro hardcore organized teams” get decked up in their pro dungeon gear and no ones left to do them, since theres no reason at all to do them, what then? Let the explorable dungeons servers sit and collect dust? :|

Saying no one is forcing you to do the dungeon is not the solution.
The solution is how do you get people to try to do your dungeons when they have no reason to do it either because they’re already decked or because they have no reason to get those dungeon pieces how do you make them want to do it again or try atleast once.

Can someone please explain to me this one thing

I dont want reward, I just want money.
If reward = money so be it

How else am I supposed to explore the world, travel around tyria using the high costs of waypoints?

Wack away at mobs and loot corpses like an OCD necrophiliac?
No thanks rather not.

If a dungeon provides a stable steady cash flow for the amount of effort being put in, I’ll take the it.

But if I cant find a sustainable source of income to pay for the crazy ingame tax, not a problem, PVP.

mess up with how many times a day I can pvp with then we have a serious problem arenanet.

You’ve basically turned guildwars2 into guildwars where you set a clear boundary between PVP and PVE content, now that youve made PVE a mind numbing chore of kill and loot to pay your ingame taxes and refuse to step down from this stance, its fine, No problem Ill enjoy your wonderful PVP but if you set a limit for how many times or hours i can PVP for… Ill just go play another game like your fan boys and girls suggested

Indeed.

Pretty soon Imma be told, NOPE! That’s it sonnyboy, enough killing people now, go play our PVE content and I’m like…. Buuuuut Anet….. your Pve content is utterly boring and unmotivating for me…. why cant I just play PVP you did so well there…

BECAUSE WE SAID SO.
