I’m also loving the sound design of this game. I started two topics about things I like in this game but nobody seems to pay much attention to threads that are not about grind, endgame, (insert your whine here).

Maybe they just don’t appreciate music with some old man who thinks hes 17 and hair down to one side of his face screaming into the microphone about “relationships”?

I dunno, but this is the best contemporary stuff I’ve heard from any game. Heck its the best part of the game really, sitting at Hoelbrak and chatting with the music playing

No it must not stop.
It’s not going to stop until they realize the community is what keeps them going, There are people who will refuse to touch the dungeons until they feel that risk is fair for the reward and at 3 silver apon completion? Screw that, Ill go do your stupid heart and wait around for DE.

Dungeons are hard, COOL I like the challenge, what I don’t like is they decided to do a dungeon you need to be in an organized team with voip so you can communicate in real time about when combo fields are being set up and when heals are coming and if someone needs to be rallied. AFTER they mentioned that the game is oriented more towards casuals with the already current difficult making so that GOOD SKILLED players are aware of their environments and other players combo fields various other cues.

What they got now by increasing the HP of trash mobs is what Colin Johansen said we didn’t want for guildwars “I swung a sword, I swung a sword again woohoo”, It’s boring and you have to keep doing this, what 70 times? SERIOUSLY?

No thanks rather not, Ill just appreciate this game for what it is currently an overpriced PVP game akin to League of Leagends but with more voice acting.

It’s already free to get into a city just by going to WvW and jumping through the Lion’s Arch portal. That’s justification enough to make Anywhere->City jumps free.

So why not just make it free to jump to any city?
Why take the extra time to get to LA and then go to the city you want?

Cool if you have super fast computer and everything but what if a poor person was on old machine and it takes 40 seconds to transfer locations?

How long do you see yourself playing GW2?

Not much longer – and I’m nowhere near lvl 80.

I can only answer from the question from my own prespective, so please nobody take offence.

GW2 just hasn’t captured my imagination at all – the PvE seems more of a grind than GW1 ever did, and that’s probably because there are no heroes, no henchment and not a lot of storyline compared with other games.

Again that’s only my view – others may well love the new system.

But for me, the gameplay can be measured in virtually single figure hours. The combat system seems way too simplistic, the skills (compared to other games) seem very limited and the MMO side in PvE doesn’t encourage any social interraction – run around with other players and kill things – then move on seperately.

It does doesnt it?
The grindy bit, the only difference between GW and GW2 is that in 2 you grind with other people.

And the weapons skills, meh, kinda limited, as they said traits dont add to much much really so… Pretty soon every profession is going to learn the best optimal way of playing their profession an it becames a meta method.

What they could have done was linked more skills to the weapon types so you’re free to change them when the situation calls for it.

I would buy this music on its own and be like, this is the best contemporary music to date. Jeremy Soule needs to be nominated for a Grammy.

And some of the voice acting could really do better work, That pirate women Merry and the Priestess of grenth and captain jayne, Same person.

probs going to resort to violence. and maybe say some real offensive language! nah but im guessing a lot of GW2 players are really sensitive. or maybe i’m just tough? then again the league of legends community is like backstreet alleys in harlem… but worse.

Actually I’ve noticed a lot of ingamers getting frustrated over “world chat” because people are chatting.

Also now with my source of income fubared with the slashed rewards of dungeoneering…

It looks like the only reason Im going to come online is to kill players.

Discipline/Crafting – In every MMO thats ever had this system, I just cant be bothered to level up my crafting, I really really cant, its boring its monotonous, I’m guessing theres profit to be made here since people buy onnomnomberry bars and peach tarts. So hay look out crafters. I find this aspect in any game to be the most boring thing to do, Oh look I made an 8slot bag, I made an 8slot bag again! Woo (referring to the famous Collin Johansen I swung a sword line in the manifesto video) grind.

Hearts/Quests – I hope everyone realizes that Heart events are just another name for quests right? Now theres no talking to NPC, Predetermined amount of kill/gather XX of YY or backtracking to get reward and if you’re lucky the heart coincides with a Dynamic Event, I don’t mind doing them, but still not as fun as playing with 5 players and seeing each different play styles, so still grindy.

Dynamic Events – I remember when I was 24 to 27 there was not much content in kessex hills, so everyone started grinding the centaur bridge dynamic event it goes like this. Bridge – Overlord Camp – Champion overlord, repeat. It did not feel dynamic, it felt like a Routine Event another name for a routine just to be the level to do my personal story…. Grind. (Yes I know not all DEs are designed poorly like this but if you start depending on them as a source of leveling thats a grind)

Dragon Champions – Theres even dragon timers that keep track of spawn times for dragons and people do grind them.

Map Exploration – By that I mean finding all the vistas, the pois, the waypoints and so forth, thats grinding to get a star by your name.

PVP – Thats right PVP is a grind as well if you don’t enjoy it and you want that pvp title, You’re going to have to… grind it, WvW especially is worst with the zerging. sPVP is pretty tolerable.

Dungeons – The only thing that was worth doing that didn’t feel like a grind because of the rewards balancing out the risk and the variety of 4 other people playing with you seeing different play styles adding to variety is now being shut down because they dont want you making any profit, so instead of making the Dungeons just harder which would have been fine they slashed the rewards, so now its do it with an organized team you can voice with or risk heavy repair bills.

Overall experience?
Getting 1 to 80? not so grindy

Being 80….. really cant do much with the exorbitant prices of way pointing and repairing armour especially after just completing your exotic set.

Now that ArenaNet has destroyed my one source of fun which is dungeoneering, to the point no one wants to do them anymore and I don’t get anything out of dungeons… I think the only thing for my toon to do now is to go become an alcoholic sitting at the Tavern in Divinity’s reach or one of the many meadhalls in Shiverpeaks and getting sloshed then starting bar fights.

But whatever happened to that?

If I do recall correctly early on the development the devs mentioned something like this to which they got the guy at pvponline to make them the attached webcomic.

If i wanted to butt my head against content for hours and hours after spending more hours rushing to level cap I’d play one of the various other games that offer this. I thought this game would be different, it certainly gave me that impression especially after reading that article on endgame. I was lookin forward to dungeons because thats one of the few activities guildies can do together that usually dont require too much skill at least when levelling up. I am just so dissapointed in how they have turned out and I’m only talking about the first few, i dont want to even see what the rest are like.

here are some excerpts from their own website; (i realise this is mostly marketing talk)
The risks are immense but the rewards are great for those who brave the hazards of the dungeons of Tyria. translation - you will die alot and waypoint zerg many times and not get enough money from the dungeon to cover repair bills.

During your first visit to a dungeon, you’ll experience story mode, which focuses on the ongoing saga of the iconic members of the legendary band of adventurers, Destiny’s Edge. translation - you will see Rytlock run ahead and agro mobs, die alot and meet up with Eir who much like Rytlock barely helps you kill anything, some heroes they turned out to be slain by a few ghosts…

There are tremendous risks for those who brave the dungeons in Guild Wars 2, but the rewards are great—each dungeon has its own unique armors and weapons that can’t be found anywhere else. translation - You will have to run these dungeons 40-50 times to get a complete set of this awesome looking stuff and you will be severely in debt from the repair bills possibly forcing you to buy gems with $$$ to convert into game currency to cover the cost. (i admit a small exaggeration on that last bit.)

I don’t want to take anything away from people who find these dungeons challenging, or gasp too easy but im kinda guessing much like any other MMO they are the minority. Blizzard realised this mistake after Vanilla and BC that they were making all this great content but hardly anyone was seeing it, and considering the majority of players of any game are “casual” why would anyone design any part of there game to scare them off.

I am just so dissapointed because I feel anything but an organised group of experience mmo’rs will just falter and leave group within the first 10-15 mins. That’s your player base right there, people who dont have hours and hours every week, they dont want to always play to be the best, they want to enjoy themselves not constantly die over and over for almost no reward just to see a small portion of the game.

I hate to admit it, if this trend continues, the only reason I’d have to log into Guildwars2 is to PVP just like I did with guildwars.

PVE endgame content is just not there.

Guildwars what do you have?
*Fissure of Woe
Underworld
Urgoz
The Depths *

They don’t interest me at all because…
1) its hard to find a group that wants to do them
2) the rewards are barely there
3) it relies on boring game mechanics.

Guildwars 2 Endgame Dungeons
Make it absurdly hard and scare away everyone to the point
1) its too hard to find a group that wants to do them
2) the rewards are barely there
3) relies on voip for real time calls on heals, field combos and rally assistance, AKA relying on boring game mechanics.

It has stated before it wants to be dynamic in terms of game play where players notice whats going on around them, when I play with another ranger, I see a healing spring and my hp is low, I run into that healing spring, when I see someone set up a fire field combo, I leap into it and gain fire aura. I don’t need people telling me they’re gonna set a field up so i can queue my skill and combo it like a prerehearsed routine.

And where do people get this perception of casuals being skilless players?
Just because you dont dedicate 8 hours a day and warp your schedule to meet your gaming communities’ doesnt make you skilless.

If I can get into a team of good casuals who dont rely on VOIP, who observe whats going on, and can coordinate a spike on a single target. Then isn’t that how they wanted their game to be? To have a variety of non cookie cutting combos that will soon be meta?

I do dungeons because i like it.I want more challenge and i can get it only in dungeons. So i don’t run them only for gear but because it’s fun, interesting and the best pve experience that i can get from GW2.

ME TOO!!

But right now, its get into organized teams with voice chat and go through everyones skill list and traits so we can set up cookie cutter combos and inform one another when we’re about to drop a heal just so we dont end up in a bad pug and end up paying 8 silvers for repairs with a 3silver reward.

So I’m not really enjoying doing any dungeons at all at the moment because of the amount of work it takes for the minimal rewards it yields.

If skill 4 had a 1 second or 1 1/2 sec cast time which made you stay put to deliver a high impact high similar to the thieves “Heart Seeker” skill, by which you do more damage to a target at lower HP and has XX amount of chance to crit, but only beyond the 600 range if you use it under 600 range, it works as a knock back

Not sure if this is related to the patch as I only just noticed this, but the F2 ability on the Hyena which spawns a second Hyena is more hassle than it’s worth. At the end of combat the 2nd Hyena attacks a random mob in the area and pulls agro. Doesn’t matter if the enemy is 50 meters away, it will run over and attack. It would be nice if it only attacked the enemies me or my pet was fighting.

Teamwork Accomplishment – Yeah…. neither my friends egos nor mine are that big.
Beautiful Unique Scenery – I wouldnt mind seeing it once.
Interesting and Diverse Story – Boring and repetitive story if you have to keep doing it for something you want and as I dont want any of the dungeon exotics, I have no reason to do it.
Unforgiving mess your face up difficulty – Thats fun, but when the rewards for doing that gets smaller to the point I cant even repair my armour…. that’s just too risky, the risk weighs more than the reward, thats not fun.

I didn’t ask you to critique what I said. I asked if there is anyone else? If you’re part of the carrot-chasing crowd, then move on.

Everything is open to criticism, friend.
And what works for you doesn’t work for other people as I shown you with my points

Heres the thing, I dont find the armour in the dungeons visually aethetically exciting, I dont want them at all.

I have no reason to do those dungeons aside from the measily amount of silver I’d get pre patch and the experience (not points) Now with the monetary benefit gone, whats left to do? Play PVP for 2 hours and move on to something new like the first Guildwars since I’ve already got my exotic gear? :|

As I understood the design, story mode was supposed to be for pugs and explorable mode for organized groups looking for a challenge. In it’s current state, this is obviously not the case.

They must have royally messed up the difficulty scaling as I assume you are level 80 and doable for you. Not so much as a level 47 mesmer and a group of other 40s.

At this point, I don’t care at all about the rewards. It’s just not fun at all.

Levels really don’t matter.
I when I was 60 I did Sorrows Embrace with a bunch of other 60s, it was tough but we faught our way through and beat the Dungeon.

If you thought AC was hard, Sorrows Embrace is a lot harder.

I did the Dungeon again this time being the only non 80 in a group of 80s who said, HAH this is gonna be easy we’re 80s we got traits.

They never even made it as far as the second golem boss before wiping and rage quit.

If you want, I can give you a run down of the new CM redesign on how its best to take out the mobs. Level and traits and whatever isnt an issue.

Heres what I mean, when I run It goes pretty far ahead of me, now… and when I come to a stop, it stops like 5 meters infront of me which under normal circumstances is enough to pull aggro from a mob in a dungeon.

If you own a dog or knows someone who owns a dog in dog training when you walk a dog, its not supposed to walk infront of you, its supposed to stay by your side slightly behind you, You are the leader of the pack it is the follower.

It's Not A Grind If You Actually Enjoyed It

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Rizzy.8293

Rizzy.8293

And in regards to the title name.
It’s not a grind if you actually enjoyed it.

Personally I did enjoy running the dungeons and seeing the different play styles that each person has to each profession and the combos you can come up with.
It was a good way to bridge the gap between those who are 80 and those who are not keeping the mix diverse.

Heres what I find grindy.

Bridge – Overlord Camp – Champion overlord, repeat. It did not feel dynamic, it felt like a Routine Event another name for a routine….

PVP – Thats right PVP is a grind as well if you don’t enjoy it and you want that pvp title, You’re going to have to… grind it.

SUMMARY for those TL:DRers
So to summarize. You say 26 silvers is too much of a reward?
Fair enough but is 3 silvers even a reward?

Your Risk and Reward ratio is unbalanced.
You’re closing the gap between people who level 80s and people who are just starting to experience dungeons by telling people who are 80 to go away, theres nothing for you here.

And I get you want your exp mode to be hard but you want it at a level where its only beatable by players who are really organized with teamspeak/vent/skype, why are you punishing casual players when your marketing is casual friendly? Casual doesn’t mean you lack gaming skills, It just means you lack the dedication to plan a dungeon raid 3 days in advance and clear your schedule for the next 30mins to an hour. A pug of casuals that notices what’s happening around them and take advantage of combo fields rallying downed players and organizing spikes on targeted mob without any vocal cue is far more skillful than an organized team and You’re punishing them for playing the game the way you designed, based on skill instead of cookie cutter team mechanics.

So if this trend keeps up where you fubar all aspects of Guildwars 2 PVE content. Guildwars2 is just going to end up like Guildwars for me.

In the sense that, I log on, I queue for PVP, I kill people for an hour or 2 and log out.

Guildwars had a nice story, game mechanics was sub par you normally end up playing with heroes anyways for PVE, I grinded PVE in guildwars was to get good looking armour to kill people in PVP with style. It’s a vanity thing.

Am I supposed to walk to Tarnished coast, then to Blazeridge Steppes and to Forstgorge to face the dragon champions because their reward is like 1silver and the chances of getting a rare is pretty slim even if you’re suited up with 3 sup runes of the noble, innit?

Im fine with you guys at Anet wanting to me Caudacus’ Manor harder, it was waaay too easy the first time around and I’ve done it after the patch, it was more challenging I like that, What I don’t like is that you decided that 26 silvers is too much so heres 3 silvers, then fine give us the same silver reward as you did for under people under level 80, with 13 silvers, atleast I can use a Way Point in the region 6 times.

Mind you if you break an exotic piece of armour that thing is worth just about 3 silver to fix and with the bad loot… You just made it so threes no incentive for more veteran players to help newer players through dungeons.

Why would someone whos level 80 randomly join a pug and help out newer players who wish to dungeon if the risk outweighs the reward? I wouldn’t, money is tight in GW2.

And this issue doesn’t just boil down to the Story Mode dungeon, if what I’ve been reading in other threads about CoF and the dungeon rewards diminishing, and as a person who does NOT find end game dungeon sets visually or aesthetically pleasing (talking mainly about medium armour) I have absolutely no reason whatsoever to do explorable dungeons and Ive already done a AC and CM explore with pugs, sure we weren’t the best of the best seeing the game was only about 5 days old, we werent 80s and theres no actual wikis to see how we’re supposed to do this, so we were one of the first few pioneers but with the rewards being that we can still fix our gear and then make some made it fun, I still Dungeon with 2 people I did explore AC with up till yesterday. That’s the power of the community at work when 2 strangers get together and bond over something they enjoy in the game, why ruin that?

Now that I know if I get stuck in a bad pug in Arah’s explorable mode which I had planned on doing to find out more about the dragon lore, I’ll be in serious debt… so… yeah goodbye to that, I’ll just wiki this a month later to read and find out about the how the Jotun, the Forgotten and the Mursaat fought the dragons instead of losing my all my money to fix my armour just to experience your story which are fantastic stories by the way. Don’t get me wrong the lore in GW2 is one of the things that keeps me to Tyria.
