I picked Ele because they seem like the most fun to play. Plus i like the clothes.

Anet can we please get more texture and patterns instead of just solid dyes? I want floral, lace, whatever just more variety.

hah, the dude only have striped patterns on the Tier 1 human pants and the heritage vest.

Hi,
I also find the tone of this discussion disturbing. Implying that a female tank is “Rosy the Riveter” in real life seems more than a little like an underhanded compliment to me or at worst misogynistic.

As for my characters: Lvl 80 Female Thief Charr and Lvl 70 (so far) Female Warrior Human.

I often act as a tank for my husband’s engineer or necromancer. Well, as much as anyone is a “tank” in this game.

I also agree with PixelPumpkin that your questions seems to be trolling. Are you looking to see trends in the game? I think you won’t find as much actual gender bias in character/profession selection as you will find in forum comments.

Rosie the Riveter is misogynistic?

I’ll keep that in mind. :>

I picked Ranger and had it as my only main for most of my 1k hours. This is my first MMO and not to encourage the stereotype but I love animals thus the reason for my choice. However now I have a guardian and warrior also at 80. Necro and ele slowly crawling there..

which do you play most these days

I’m not a girl, I am a woman, not sure if age matters here. I picked them all in this order:

1. Sylvari Ranger, because my beta was that too.
2. Norn Guardian, to go with my daughter’s Norn Ranger.
3. Human Necromancer, because I needed something do when the above mentinoed Ranger was not in game and because I wanted something different.
4. Asura Mesmer, because I wanted to get the cool GS action (and then didn’t because she is an Asura).
5. Charr Elementalist, because it made an interesting background combined with the Flame Legion Shaman father.
6. Norn Engineer, cousin to the other Norns metionened here. I was bored levelling #4 and #5 and wanted a fresh view of things. Found him a delight to play and the three levelled up competing with each other within a couple of days.
7. Human Warrior, related to the Necromancer. Because it felt like the better choice for a noble than a thief.
8. Charr Thief, my newest kitty. Because it was the last profession I had not tried yet and I wanted something to go with the Charred colour as soon as I saw the preview.

The last three are males, because I felt I needed some balance in my team. The youngest two are not yet level 80, I’ve been trying to hold them back a bit.

All professions are fun in my opinion. The one that was the most postive surprise was the Engineer.

Cant say ive played an engie before, visual aesthetic seem to be lacking from that profession in the form of their kits and gadgets its like everything was designed by/for charrs.

I get Charr created the engineering profession but youd figure the other races would add their own flavour.

Seriously dude, trying to establish dialogue with those who want to discuss rather than try and indicate some ulterior motive that they themselves feel someone else has… so please, quit trying to hijack the conversation. I am actually enjoying insights from the others, so please, just go away, or be constructive.

The only dialogue or rather monologue you’re trying to achieve is how you feel justified on nerfing another class because your skill level isn’t on par with another player.

I’ve been killed by really good Thieves who know how to cut down my mobility as an ele.

Am I complaining about Infiltrator’s strike?

No because those good thieves, know which skills a D/D ELE uses that really hurts and wait for me to use that when I’m at my most vunerable before coming in for the kill.

Does that mean Infiltrator’s strike is OP?
HELL NO.

I aint by any means a “Pro Ele” but I’m smart enough to counter gimmicky builds that people use like using SHOCKING AURA when I get immobilized and cant move so my attacker if hes dumb enough to Melee me with a BACKSTAB gets stunned himself.

Dude, I actually enjoyed your last paragraph, can you try starting without the insults or insinuation, because those were false and have been. I use Shocking Aura on mine, run d/d with cc in that. I would just think that at some point, he wouldn’t be able to keep disappearing, like, maybe only when he’s at at least 50% or something. I don’t think he (the thief i got into the eternal battle with) was that good, because I’ve had other battles that after the 2nd or 3rd disappearance I was toast. And seriously, if the dialogue moves to convince me that it’s a non-sensical idea, I’m ok with that.

He shouldn’t be able to keep dissapearing?
Just like you shouldn’t be able to keep switching attunements?

Lets face it, what does a thief do when they’re stealth?
NOTHING, they cant attack you.

Stealth is a survival mechanic thieves.
Much like Water attunement is for Eles.

Whats the difference between the 2?

You can change to Water Attunement every 7 seconds if you specced for and you can stealth every 3 seconds after opening an attack.

If you’re dying to Cloak and Dagger attacks only, seriously I need to do an obligatory laugh.

The moment a thief goes out of stealth as a D/D Ele you have SO MANY OPTIONS to CC them.

Frozen burst.
Earth skills 2 – 4
Updraft for when he comes close to Cloak and dagger.

Hide in Shadows removes Conditions bleeding, burning and poison yes, but it does not remove cripple and it does not mean they cant be conditioned while they’re stealthed.

What do you think Fire skills 2 – 4 are for?

I usually use 2,3, then 4, switch to earth, 4 then 2 if he’s visible, switch to air for 3 if needed. But, it seems to make little difference.

face palm stop opening with fire.
Air is your closer and guarentees a thief cant smack you with CnD when you use shocking aura and switch to earth which cripples and damage them apon attunement change when you start to bleed them.

Air attunement should be the attunement you stay on OOC.

If it took an elementalist, a necromancer and a warrior 8 minutes to fight a thief off then those three are either incredibly bad and refused to bring any CC, AoE or damaging skills or the thief is actually the best player in the world at anything.

1 stun is all it should have taken for a build of those 3 professions to take out a thief, even if they where upleveled 1 stun would probably have been enough.

But sure, nerf thief even more however you also have to nerf everyone elses ability to go 1vX against bad players as well, so what nerfs do you want for the other 7 professions?

It’s a good thing his main and my main are the same profession.

So you’re talking about the heal?

Well, I’m more talking about the ability to engage, heal, engage, heal.

I see it like this… as an ele, what if i was able to create an invulnerable shield, then I would heal while my invulnerable shield was up, then, my Invulnerable shield would recharge fairly quickly (based on skill allotment ofc), but until it did, i had a mini-invulnerable shield to keep me alive, allowing only a few seconds of dmg before I could then reuse my invulnerable shield. Would that be okay?

Oh come on. Stealth is not the same as invulnerability, by far. How about you try playing your thief outside of PvE?

I hear ya, perhaps not the best example… but since you can’t target them, then all the thief need do is move a slight distance away and they can’t be hurt, then, they move back in after healing. correct?

Also, as soon as I get to where I can wear decent armor and have the skills, my plan is to do wvw with mine.

Oh yes if you get past the level 11 with your magical 1 trait point which somehow cuts down the recharge time of Hide in Shadows to less than 30 Seconds

Thought, considered & this is the post. Thieves are not OP at all. They are average in PvE, a bit annoying in WvW & an easy kill in PvP. If you’re next question is if I play a thief, than the answer is no not anymore. They already got nerfed by increasing their revealed time I don’t see why Thieves should get another nerf towards their stealth ability.

No, I don’t really care if you play a thief, i mean, we can all play a thief, I currently have an Engineer (80), Elementalist (80), and am working on… wait for it…. Thief (11). Even at level 11 I can play my thief in PvE with very little threat of dying, i just disappear and heal up, then go at it again. I’m just thinking it’s not really balanced.

Because level 11 zones are so hard.

Ranger Offhand Sword

Rizzy.8293

Not sure I agree – thieves get dual daggers.. which is kind of the staple weapon for that type of class. Aside from a bow, dual swords just seems to make sense for Rangers.

I run thief, ranger, warrior (geared in that order) and I agree, dual dagger seems fitting for ranger. But for how thief mechanics work, I think dual swords for them before ranger is necessary. They are “nasty” fighters and considering how weak sword is atm for thieves it seems more important to me. Dont get me wrong, ranger needs better off-hand (and 1h main hand tbh) weapons.

This makes no sense. Rangers are sword fighters. Thieves are dagger fighters. It stands to reason and precedence.

Rangers live off the land and know how to use a dagger in the mainhand with deadly precision and use it for skinning animal hide.

Why woudlnt they be able to use dual daggers.

Even in Dungeons and Dragons because of the rangers traits they’re better off with dual weapons than a bow and arrow and a rogue is better off with a bow.

Seriously, if you’re going to bring up DnD you can’t not bring up the most famous ranger of DnD. I’ll give you a hint, has a pet panther and duel wields scimitars (those are swords by the way.) There is no classical, nor literary Rangers who favor daggers, but there are more than enough who duel wield swords.

Rangers = swords and bows, Thieves (rogues) = daggers and more daggers. That’s just how it goes down.

Oh okay no Literary rangers who favour daggers.
I guess Belkar Bitterleaf a Halfling Ranger from Order of the Stick is a figment of my imagination then.

so you’re only noticed minis and skins after a major update? what about the changes of the monthly/daily system? or laurels? or living story? i could go on if you will, but just look at the patchnotes of the past months.
some people will always just see what they wanna see…

And laurels are used for…
Oh yeah thats right stats treadmill as in something you have to do to keep up with the rest.

Oh and nice of you to mention fractal weapons skins, yes lovely the ONE new skin that doesnt require tons of money or luck.

Now if only they implemented this to the rest of the dungeons, like I’ve mentioned in the OP if you had bothered to read it as a way of making people WANT to kill otherwise skippable bosses instead of FORCING people to do it.

And no a good dungeon doesnt have to force you kill everything along the way.

you can’t compare constant new skins and fashion stuff, which aren’t crucial to stay competetive with higher tier weapons/armor every once in a while.
you’re not forced to get those skins.
sure, ascended gear is coming, but step-by-step to prevent gear threadmill.
currently, there’re just ascended rings and charms…and they are not crucial. ( yet :/ )

Sorry, higher tier stuff?

You do realize that armour and weapon stats in Gw2 max out at exotic and everything else is just Cosmetic.

So yes I can make that comparison.

Armour and weapons in Guildwars2 is Cosmetic they dont provide additional stats past exotics.

sure, ascended gear is coming, but step-by-step to prevent gear threadmill.

the hell are you talking about?

Putting out gear with better stats =/= Gear treadmill.

Logic fail much?

Putting out gear with better stats = Gear treadmill

which is why I dont like ascended items.

And this is also why your logic fails.
Imagine you’re a new player or a player who has just returned after a long time off the game.
You come back and theres these new “Ascended” items which take Months to attain rather than just the weeks it took to get dungeon exotic gear and to top it off they’re ugly so you just end up transmuting them to your pre existing outfit.

THAT IS A GEAR TREADMILL.

My suggestions were never about gear treadmill but more cosmetic variation.

I’m glad I know which side you stand on.
And for the sake of the community I hope Anet doesnt turn this game into another gear treadmill like all the other lame MMORPGs.

to allow better group mobility and strategic positioning instead of lumping everyone up into one big zerg and crashing into each other.

What exactly is "End Game"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

if you’re looking for never-ending progression after max level (aka gear threadmill), than this is the wrong game for you.
it sure does have goals after level 80, like skin-hunting, legendary weapons, 100% world completion but the main goal is trying to just have fun, exploring, test your actual player skills and different builds out at competetive PvP or WvW.

it’ll sure get boring quick, if you’ll rush through everything, but don’t call GW2 “a lack-of-end game”-game if you do so.

and thanks to the monthly major updates, it won’t get boring that soon. ;D

Gear treadmill?
Minis are gear now?

Is that why they’re constantly putting out new minis in the form of BLTCs and New weapons skins in the form of BLTCs too?

Stop being cliche please :>

When you say Gear treadmill you mean STATS treadmill, theres already new gear skins out in Gw2 ontop of the dungeon gears and the legendary and those dont require skills to obtain they require luck, luck and money

Kryta - Too white washed?

in Lore

Skin tones, naming styles, and overal cultural influences appear to primarily be Spanish and Italian (and likely others I’m not aware of or doesn’t come to mind atm).

The houses are another matter. And I wasn’t talking about the architecture there at all. I was talking about their physical appearance and their culture.

P.S. There are no “Atap roofs, stilt houses ontop of water ways.” in Kryta. Not in GW1, at least (only ones in GW2 are those belonging to fisher families). Furthermore, Concept art != the game’s lore, so pulling those up for “how it was in GW1” is utter bullkitten.

.

Oh of course the names. Like SAUL
Yes who can forget such names like Varesh, an INDIAN name being used in their North African Themed expansion, NIGHTFALL.

Or Jora isn’t even a scandinavian name.

But since we’re talking about names.
Queen Salma, believe it or not Salma is actually a name in Southeast Asian culture, malay.

Oh and yeah theres, no such thing as buildings on waterways. /sarcasm.

Please don’t be ignorant, theres more than one type of Asian culture.
Theres the Oriental Chinese and Japanese and Mongolian with the Factions Expansion and theres the Southeast Asian with the Prophecies.

Just like Nightfall is culturally diversed into African, Egyptian and Arabian.

Ranger Offhand Sword

I can tell you why flying mounts dont work and why I’m neutral on them
Tyria is not an open world.

To go from one zone to another zone you have to find a hole in the wall.

As far as an OOC Speed bonus with a visual aesthetic, I’m whole heartily for them.
They make the world feel bigger and dont take me out of the game and have to endure a loading screen just to get from one area of the same zone to another because +25 percent speed bonus just doesnt cut it

Kryta - Too white washed?

in Lore

Rizzy.8293

It takes longer than 250 years to lighten the skin due to environmental changes/cultural influx.

As for the huge masonic thing… Old Kryta had huge structures all over the place. Massive towers and citadels that dominated the skyline and the environment, the stone towers in Lions Arch are the remnants we see of this in GW2. It falls completely in line with the lore that Divinity’s Reach would be built along similar lines.

However… I do agree that it has been whitewashed. In a multicultural metropolis such as this, cut off from outside influence etc, the regressive traits such as pale skin, blonde hair and blue eyes would be the ones in the minority. This is probably more to do with marketing and less to do with lore however.

And so did ascalon, but the 2 do not look a like to each other.
The new Kyrta design looks more like Ascalonian architecture than it does Krytan.

Kryta - Too white washed?

in Lore

Back in the days, Kryta was a simple small fishing settlement themed after south east asian culture, where most people were healthy shade of tan to brown.

These days Kryta is big masonic buildings very reminiscent of medieval Europe just like Ascalon was.

Uh… when was this? Because it’s been more than a simple fishing settlement for as long as I know of, and never themed after asian culture but western/southern European (typically: Mediterranean).

And I wouldn’t say it feels medieval at all. Definitely more Renaissance like Zeefa said. But that’s just Divinity’s Reach. Going to anywhere else, and the structures still look greatly Krytan in comparison – even just going out to Shaemoor! Yes, there are some exceptions, such as the taverns usually or the Ascalon Settlement kitten , but still they’re not medieval in appearance, nor strickly Ascalonians.

Regarding skin color – do keep in mind that there were paler Krytans before, and similarly we got a LOT of Ascalonians mixing into Kryta, and at the same time, Canthans and a few Orrians who were lighter in color. Not to mention that the tidal wave or even Jormag’s continuous push south seems to have cooled the land a bit, which in turn would also lighten skin over the generations.

Really South Europe?
That look like europe to you?

There is alot more area that carries on past the world map. You can see this map in the durmand priory place at lornar’s pass. It’s very possible the Dwarf survivors could be living in some far of place in the rest of tyria. +1 for dwarfs, no to elves

Dwarf survivors?
You’re talking as though something catastrophic and out of their control happened to them.

Dwarves chose to become Stone Dwarves to fight the great destroyer and no, thats not the same thing as a Dwarf.
Saying a Stone Dwarf is just a Dwarf with stone skin is saying a Branded Human is just a Human with branded skin.

The process of turning into a stone dwarf changes a dwarf physiologically and psychologically they’re not dwarves.

This is indeed correct . It is even mentioned by Ogden in a cut scene in guild wars 1 that the ritual changes the dwarves in body and mind which is why he he decided not to partake in it at first .

Skip to 47mins to hear Ogden saying it.

48:25 when the player acknowledges the difference between a dwarf and a stone dwarf.
