How Can ANet Improve Average Player Skills

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Or they can make difficult content that is instanced so we don’t have to deal with bad players. There will always be bad players but anet seems to enjoy forcing everyone to play together with all this open world zerg train. The reason why nobody leaves the Queensdale zerg train is because most things in this game can be bought with gold

They really shouldn’t make difficult content open world. I would rather do this instanced where I can at least have some control on who will participate. These events would be cake walks if it was instanced. Too bad anet seems to be caught up in a philosophy that open world zerg trains are the best

Gah you guys don’t understand at all.

If you give everyone gold or a item worth a lot of gold then inflation will happen (i.e. more people have gold to spend, so more stuff gets bought – all prices go UP). You don’t want that!

If you give everyone legendary items, then it’s unfair on people who start GW2 in a month’s time as they won’t be able to get it. Remember that GW2 is designed so that skill > gear and they don’t want people in unobtainable gear.

You’re kidding right? There is no skill involved in doing champ trains getting gold then buying a legendary

Jormag is up north wreaking havoc, doing his own thing, pretty far from tyria, so hes not a direct threat to us.
Same for Kralk except he is in elona.
Primordius is fighting the dwarves under ground.

Theyre all either busy or too far away for tyrians to care unless they had a stake in it, like norn who actually miss their homeland. etc.

And judging by the cinimatic, the leyline went out from lions arch, through the green fields ofthe human lands, then acrossed a wide flat, black area that had trees on the otherside, im guessing it was the Maguuma Wastes, the deserty area of the maguuma.
Then after that its in a jungly area, which is the maguuma jungle of course.

So this begs the notion that mordy is pretty far away too. but theres one thing diffeent about mordy. Mordy’s champion, the pale tree is sitting right here in tyria, and right now she doesnt like him very much.

I think mordy is gunna wake up and get some revenge for keeping him from waking up, and betraying him.

That would make most of us care about taking him out.
Or pretty much just the sylvari.

Crystal Desert is not in Elona

I don’t understand why skins released don’t follow the theme of the living story. They’re completely random. On top of that anyone can gain these skins because of how easy it is to make gold in this game zerg train…

I’m expecting them to release obsidian sets for the low price of 800 gems

Yes the game is boring updates are predictable. Gem shop skins which require black lion keys, gem shop armor then the actual content is usual zerg around while doing achievements. Went into the Lions arch siege was just big blobs of zergs and everyone typing in all caps STACK logged out immediately.

Where does Scarlet get her resources?

RoRo.8270

How does Zhaitan keep getting all these Risen to throw at people? Sure, he had a whole continent’s worth, but it’s been a year and a half since the game launched now. People have killed millions, if not billions of Risen enemies. In fact, some people have already completed the Personal Story and killed Zhaitan himself. So why are there still so many Risen? Zhaitan is such a Mary-Sue!

C’mon, guys. It’s an MMORPG. You can’t try to justify “where do all these enemies come from” given the scale of slaughter and genocide the players put forward wherever they go. You just have to accept it, and that’s true whether it’s talking about Scarlet, Zhaitan, Kralkatorrik/Jormag (how many Shatterers and Claws have been killed since the game’s launch?), or those bandits in Queensdale that pour out by the dozens each five minutes to attack a farm.

^

Some people are just looking for excuses to rant against the game.

If you’re going to have to rail against Scarlet and her resources, how about complaining about how mobs just spawn out of thin air, or how Shat/Teq/Claw keep coming back even though we killed them.

Those events aren’t part of the living story and Scarlet is

And what about the 12k gap between the previous piece of armor and that one? That doesn’t make any sense.
The ammount of AP is just absurb considering that there are 2 armor pieces left.

TTS Almost defeated the Great Jungle Wurm

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: RoRo.8270

RoRo.8270

This whole encounter is a perfect example why TTS and guilds like them are detrimental to the game as a whole.
When a “special” guild has to be created to defeat a boss, that is a sign there is something wrong with that boss encounter. When that same “special” guild then defeats the boss, it “proves” to the dev team that the encounter is working as intended as it can be beaten.
The marionette was done well, the wurm and teq are just ridiculous.

Players banding together to take down the strongest bosses in the game is working exactly as intended.

If the forced creation of special guilds like TSS is what anet intended, then the game is doomed as that is pretty much the worst example of programming I have ever seen in any game.

For hardcore endgame objectives guilds form all the time in MMOs.. I guess you’re new to this.

You do realize those are instanced raids right?

Exactly what ive been saying since that eurogamer interview. They are saving up goodies for that patch to keep people excited for GW2 when Wildstar and teso are releasing.

My guesses:

- Full fledged balance patch including some bigger changes.
- New uttilities and weaponcombinations.
- New pvp gamemodes
- New Laddersystem.
- Edge of the mists wvw map.
- Some kind of progression PvE.
- New zone (cough cantha cough)

"This is a skill-based game"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: RoRo.8270

RoRo.8270

Anyway, for purposes of this discussion, herd play does not for the most part require any skill — no matter if you’re talking about player skill or skills on the hot bar.

And that’s quite true… Sadly, herd play represent the vast majority of GW2 “endgame”.

It depends on what you see the endgame as. If you want your endgame as content which gives the most loot, yes: champ trains all the way.

When the game gets difficult, it does give some of the most difficult content I’ve played in MMOs, and I’ve played since RuneScape classic was around. I don;t think I’ve ever watched PUGs fail harder than in Arah or around lvl 20-ish FotM (where it gets hard but the difficulty filter hasn’t really kicked in yet).

That happens because most of the content you can auto attack and tab out so players will be conditioned and use to easy fights.

People have no clue how to "hold points"

in PvP

Posted by: RoRo.8270

RoRo.8270

People would rather zerg around than defend points they capped. It’s hilarious spending over a minute on a big team fight at mid and winning just to have everyone bail and go push far which eventually leads to losing mid and home. People struggle with map awareness.

This is probably the only solo queue game I’ve played where nobody bothers to discuss strategies before the match starts its every man for themselves. I can go queue up for a counter strike go or starcraft 2 Solon queue match and even though nobody knows each other we will start discussing builds and strategies beforehand. Here it is every man for themselves

Nope, I like to look to people’s AP, I dont judge much based on it, but I just like to do it, just as much as I like people looking at mine. 9k is nothing impressive, but I have been called out for it before, and It made me feel good, made me feel….accomplished ingame.

So no, for every 1 of you who dont want achievement points out, there are plenty more who does. In fact, the top AP scores in my guild love to brag aboutit with their 12-13k AP. Im well aware it means nothing in dungeons given my dungeon experience, but who cares;

AP is a good bragging way without anything to really brag about

The bulk of achievement points come from dailies which are the same mundane tasks. If you start the game late you will be at a disadvantage and never reach the leaderboards. Then we have living story achievements another set l achievements new players can’t obtain.

In the other MMO I play, the quests advance the story and there is a unique story in every zone. Here, it’s a random mishmash of events and NPCs which don’t make any cohesive sense. You’re just doing little chores for the handful of people scattered throughout the area.

What’s the overarching theme of Queensdale, after you become the “Hero of Shaemoor” in the first 5 minutes of play? Choo-choo-champ train?

Hearts are just really grindy quests in disguise, and many DE’s are just escort quests. There is really nothing new here, except for a shockingly bad, bare bones story.

I agree with this post. You pretty much have no idea why you have to kill “x” enemy. I have played guild wars 1 so I had a better idea than the average player.

Dynamic events and hearts are just quests where you don’t have to go up to the quest giver is true. Dynamic events get stale really fast for example I finished saving a village then 20 seconds later the event occurred again this happens over and over.

in PvP

Why would you report them? Players eventually get fed up with afkers and leavers when you d/c the other players on your team have to usually play twice as hard. If you played match after match with afkers and leavers I’m sure you would be frustrated too. In 1 minute a lot can change especially when you’re down a player eventually the team gets demoralized and just wants to be done with it

Posted by: RoRo.8270

RoRo.8270

i cant tell if shockwave is really slow or trolling.

Other people are communicating poorly. There’s clearly ready up buttons in 3 different parts of the process to starting a match.

The ready button is a joke it has no use. It needs to be improved. Here is what a ready button does in counter strike go

http://youtu.be/JDN-yWu3Q3Y?t=53s

People queue up for solo queue go use the washroom, smoke, eat, etc and forget they even queued so they come back and find themselves in a game because after you queue up the game automatically puts you in a match. Another issue is there is no sound when the match is ready a lot of people tab out of the game and when the popup comes to enter the game no distinguishable sound is played to let players know that the match is ready. Now you can’t reduce 4v5 completely but you can lessen the chance of it happening

Especially when 1 team gets 2-3 guards/bunkers and the other one has none.

Can’t the MM system give both teams one of each profession, if there’s 2 times the same prof?

This is a player problem. Players can easily switch to other characters before the match starts, but everyone wants to do their own thing.

I believe I read somewhere last patch or the one before that you cannot change. ONce you enter a match at all you cannot make character changes. Someone even told me yesterday that you can no long swap weapons or skills including elites before the match starts one you accept and log in to the match. Maybe someone can confirm this.

It ends up saying out of range when you try target that area my guess is the cannon is set to fire within a certain range. Then there is a bug where you fall through the map into the water. Last bug I know of is trying to enter cannon console room it puts you in then kicks you out to the gate immediately.
