I think (quite often) that i should play gw1 again. I got Nightfall, Prophecies, EotN (was starting on these when some of you guys were on your first gw2 year) but barely explored them. Only did ~75% of the Nightfall and Prophecies campaign and found my way to the EotN. Feels such like a waste. Anyone knows if the gw1 community is still active at all? And would you really need 4k hours for the 50/50? Or you guys think that having experienced gw2 for a while now, it wouldn’t make sense to go back to the original?

GW1 is still pretty active. I always see at least a couple of people in each outpost I go to, and there are always tons hanging around in Kamadan for trading and such.

Can you tell me which MMO you played that has these hostilities? Currently playing Free trial WoW and Rift. So far, I don’t see any of these hostile duelers.

Tell me which MMO and I’ll give it a try to see if you are right.

My experience in WoW with duelers was similar but not quite as bad as charr’s. Anytime I’d run through Goldshire on my server, I’d usually be slammed with duel requests. At least a couple of times a week, I’d have some random kitten follow me around, spamming the duel request and PMing me when I’d decline. The language was never really hostile, but it was pretty darn irritating.

Oddly enough, this only happened in Goldshire. Anytime I’d be running around the giant duel area in front of Orgrimmar, I’d be left alone. But anyway, yeah. People can be and often are annoying little terrors.

Has this experience happened recently?

Currently, I am running around in Goldshire looking to see if someone is going to duel me. So far, no luck.

It was over the past year or two. I haven’t played in a couple of months, though. Keep in mind that different servers will have different populations of people in different areas.

Loot rolling question

It definitely seems to be rolled on opening. Using champ loot bags as an example: If you kill a champ on a level 30 character and then give said bag to a level 80 character to open, the loot will be level 80 loot.

Estate of Decay

I had trouble with this one the first time I took a character through it; I subsequently chose the other option for every other one (save for my mesmer, whom I decided to try it on again for fun).

This method is a bit longer, but it’s worked for me:

I’d recommend camping a ranged weapon for most of it (just have one equipped as your secondary set when you start the fight). Hide behind the pillar to the Mouth’s left side. Pop out to pull the guys circling him, and take them down in small groups (or one by one). The minimap will have a ping when the couriers spawn, so you should be able to get them down in time each time.

Once all the guys around the boss are gone, your allies will all respawn. Use that as a chance to run in and damage him in melee (axe mainhand will be your best DPS). Try to keep up the melee as long as you can, dodging his knockdown and all that. Once he hits 50%, he’ll spawn his circle of mobs again. You can retreat back to the pillar, if you want to, and start pulling them again to repeat the process.

If you’re not doing enough damage, consider bringing consumables. Food that gives you more power would be good. Undead potions should work, too. Fire elemental powder, ogre pet whistles, and things like that can help you when you’re burning down the Mouth. Plus, bringing either For Great Justice or a banner (either Discipline or Strengh) would be good, as would popping Signet of Rage.

How many online / server population?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: RoseofGilead.8907

RoseofGilead.8907

Servers are never full to the point that someone can’t log on; this game operates differently from WoW when it comes to servers. The only time you’d experience a queue to play is for wvw, usually on reset nights. YB has a high wvw population. I’m not sure what their pve population is like, but every pve map (and the pvp lobby) is now a megaserver, compiled of players from multiple servers. So, you should be able to find people in whichever map you go to.

You can see a list of servers when you log in by clicking on World Selection. All servers are currently listed as “Very High” population.

All dwarves were turned to stone after the Rite of the Great Dwarf (which happened in GW1 Eye of the North). Some were immediately turned to stone and went down into battle against the destroyers. The few who were either elsewhere when the rite happened or who elected to stay behind (like Ogden) were eventually compelled to also become stone. Ogden is supposedly the last dwarf on the surface of Tyria (and possibly the last one alive).

Selling dungeon runs?

What’s the exploit?

- That dungeon rewards are not given for completing the dungeon from start to finish, but when the last boss dies or last cutscene is played. Since rewards are scaled based on how difficult the dungeon path is, I believe the reward is intended for full completion.

Other people in the thread have posted links that show the devs of this game do not consider dungeon selling or buying to be an exploit.

Selling dungeon runs?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: RoseofGilead.8907

RoseofGilead.8907

How is it a scam?

- Selling something you don’t own is fraud. How did these sellers get into the position where they are selling the path anyway? Did the seller secure their position by being the instance owner, almost complete the instance with the help of party and then kick them out?

1. The many legit sellers got into that position by starting a solo run, and doing the path on their own (or, in the case of particular bosses, by enlisting help from friends or other players). They simply run the paths enough to know the mechanics of each encounter and, thus, learn to solo it all.

2. There isn’t an Instance Owner anymore. And more often than not, the path is not one that was stolen from another player/players.

Enchanted Reward Boost

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: RoseofGilead.8907

RoseofGilead.8907

1. It’s not really a waste if you have a ton of boosters, a ton of karma, and don’t care about keeping those boosters.

2. Glory doesn’t exist, so there’s no use for the boosters anymore. Just destroy.

3. I’ve used a gathering booster once, and I didn’t notice enough of a boost in materials to warrant using one again. Those just get turned into enchanted boosters if I get dust.

4. Magic find affects the quality of loot you get from the corpses of mobs/other players. So, if you don’t do activities where you kill mobs or other players, then there’s not much point in using a MF booster. Unless you’re doing PvP, in which case reward track containers are affected by MF.

Picking a class for my wife

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: RoseofGilead.8907

RoseofGilead.8907

I love my necro. She’s my main, and I do dungeons, other basic pve, and wvw with her. It’s really a fun class, and I’ll never stop playing her. That being said, necros aren’t often wanted for many dungeon groups due to our lack of skills that help the group. So, if she’s wanting mostly dungeon runs, she might want to check out guardian or mesmer rather than necro. Both are very useful in dungeons and fractals. Guardian is the easier of the two to master, and you have lots of helpful group things.

Honestly, though, there’s no reason she can’t make one of each (necro, guard, and mesmer), mess around to see how she likes each, and then pick from there.

Help identify matching dyes for in game

Red dye is cheap (less than 20s). But I’d go for a darker red. Oxblood is a good one (sell price around 80s, I think).

Depending on the armor type (medium, light, or heavy), Midnight Ice could work as a substitute. On light armor and heavy armor, however, it tends to look more blue than it does on medium. Other possibilities could be Iron (very cheap), Ebony (one of the starter dyes), Pitch (around 1g), etc.

White can be done with Mithril, Icing, or certain pastel colors on certain armor types.

Guilds are no longer server-based, so you could join any guild on any server. Try posting over in the Dungeon subforums, specifically here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Dungeon-Mentors-Noob/first

That guild/group of guilds specializes in teaching people who are new to dungeons. There are other guilds who do the same thing; you’d just have to do some poking around to find one that works for you.

Unless you want to move to a server that does differently in wvw, there’d be no need for you to change servers.

Dungeon Switching

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: RoseofGilead.8907

RoseofGilead.8907

You can enter into the dungeons on any level character, I believe. You just have to be in a party with someone in the dungeon and have said character parked somewhere inside the same zone as the dungeon (in the case of CoF, that’d be Fireheart Rise). So, you’d need to run your lowbie to the zone of the dungeon, do the dungeon up to the boss (or up to a certain hp % on the boss) on your high level character, switch characters, and then click on the prompt to enter the dungeon again.

If you plan to do this, always make sure you let the rest of your party know BEFORE starting the dungeon.

About Slot Skills

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: RoseofGilead.8907

RoseofGilead.8907

As long as you’re playing the game, you’ll never really stop getting skill points. You get 8 skill points at levels 20, 26 and 32; 7 at levels 38, 44, 50 and 56; and 6 at levels 62, 68, 74 and 80. You also get one skill point for each skill point challenge you do (each zone has many of these). Once you’re level 80 you continue to get a skill point every time you “level up”. Also, champion loot bags will often drop skill point scrolls.

The only merchants in-game that take Skill Points as currency are the Mystic Forge Attendants and profession trainers. The forge attendants sell you things you need to make weapons or weapon components in the forge; so, you won’t really need to use that vendor until you decide to make one of those weapons. The profession trainers let you trade skill points + gold for skills, so that you don’t have to go out into the world and do the task assigned to unlock that skill point.

Since you only get points in increments before hitting level 80, you do need to make sure you don’t waste the skill points on skills that are useless. If you’re unsure as to what skills are good, you could look up a guide or ask in the forums.

well, if the community cries so much about the same stuff all over again since launch, why don’t they make it happen? What is stopping them? Its time ANET give us straight answer, clean and reasonable(specially cuz they have team for that now).

Part of it is probably because only a portion of the community cries about wanting these issues. For every poster who says “Put in duels/mounts/raids” there will be another poster who says “Don’t put in duels/mounts/raids”. Just look at the many, many, many threads about these things to see the divide in the community.

But I think the main part is just that Anet doesn’t WANT to work on those things right now.

I’ve also never had trouble coming up with names. The few times the name was taken, I was able to either come up with something new or change the spelling/characters so that it worked.

I think OP’s suggestion would be pretty unfair to players who have to go inactive (deployment, extended travel obligations, or any other reason) for an extended period. Maybe if they could manage to isolate only perma-banned accounts and release THOSE names, I’d be cool with that. But otherwise, nope. Just find ways around your issue that won’t penalize other players.

Mesmer – pinks/purples
Necro – sickly greens/blacks
Ranger – browns and earthy colors
Warrior – oranges/golds
Guardian – Silvers/blues
Thief – Blacks/dark colors

Elementalist could change based on attunements. Browns for earth, reds/oranges for fire, blues for water, and light colors for air.

Engineer, again, could be based on which type of play.
