Please provide accurate numbers about actual WvW population and not just server population and base transfers on that. I believe that would already go a long way.
I simply have a question. Why won’t, or haven’t you (Anet) provided accurate numbers?
Also what is the average percentage of total GW2 players playing WvW?
Finally for the players, why do you want to know the exact population numbers on any given server, at any given time etc?
Your people just need to learn its more lucrative to farm enemy zergs than it is to flip kitten. Since you know the enemy is coming you simply set up for their demise. In fact if you’re the scout/defender, and you tag an enemy zerg with an AC while your zerg is incoming, you’re going to reap the rewards. Meanwhile if your zerg can ambush and wipe the enemy, that’s a big net win right there.
It looks solid damage-wise. My only questions: how can you defeat someone who decides to run away? How can you disengage when a fight comes along you’ll not be able to overcome?
Mobility is king, at least in WvW which your new build is made in mind of. You have no swiftness, no speed related runes, and only a fully untraited 900 range blink. You don’t even have much condi removal (though traited torch is awesome for it). Don’t take this personally because unlike a lot of other people, it makes no difference to me that its you offering builds or not. Fact is, poor mobility makes for a poor build. Whether its Blackwater or The Apex of slow Predators.
There is an easy way to do it. Join up in a group with players who are also attacking the same door. All you have to do is have everyone attack the same gate and you should get the tick for the achievement once the gate is destroyed.
Nope, this is NOT always true.
A few hours ago i was grouped with someone attacking a wall with a catapult. The wall went down easily. He got +1 for his achievement, not me.
You’d of still needed to deal some amount of damage. Say, 1hp’s worth. Otherwise you never “entered combat” with it.

It’s all relative. You never have to use them if you never go down.
That said, our #2 is actualy one of the best in the current WvW meta. Because with it you can drag out your dps absorption allowing you to be aoe/dps’d down before anyone lands a stomp. That ’s the denial of a point right there.

What’d be better would be being able to play on an Alt and going into WvW with your main when the queue popped.

The big problem with bali’s is the cost vs reward. Supply is sparse. Balisa are prone wherever you place them. Therefor you’re throwing away a lot of supply to get one up for a fight. Supply that will be needed for rams, golems, and AC’s.
Reduce the cost dramatically so that a two people can put one up. Say 20 supply for a regular, 30 for a superior (2x 15 supply). Then to stop a 60 man zerg from drop 30 instant bali’s, put in a high siege cap in a small area for bali’s (So a single bali can only have four other bali’s close by in its radius), say 1200. Then we could get a lot more bali action because the cost isnt going to outweigh the ten seconds of usefulness they’ll provide in open field/lip placement anti infantry/siege warfare.
Hell, another option could be to add a new line to ballista mastery: Ballistas become auto placed like traps (or prints have a third option), which costs 15 supply. He can only have one placed in this way at any one time (like traps). That way a Bali Master can bring and lay his own bali’s in a fight.

well i’m a zerk mesmers, full best gear with best zerk skills and a gs w ssword / focus and i’m there from when the gate was at 100% got it to 50% with zerg, got rebuilt to 100% by them, then we destroyed it and i didn’t get a progress
so i guess without siege weapons it’s IMPOSSIBLE to progress this, which is suuuuper lame
i’ve vanquished another camp just now, ogre camp in EB and i didn’t get a 1 point for it…stil at 0
It was suggested that being in a group helps, as you get group tag benefits (damage share).
That said, I just dropped my own superior ram when we ran up to a tower. That way I got to man it. Did so for a fair bit of damage then handed it off to someone with ram mastery.
You should know that, as a Mesmer, Anet deplores the idea of you being able to tag anything. For shame.
Mantra of Pain being mostly only useful for healing is what I thought too. Hell, Ive even advised people as such for months now.. But I think that thats just the most obvious use for it.
I feel MoPain is largely underexplored. Its a 1200 range hit for over 1k, so with Harmonious Mantras and Greatsword it seems to me MoPain could also have another use in long range “sniper” builds. I could be totally off here, but I simply wanna try to forge a build to make use of MoPain without tying it to Restorative Mantras… for science!
I was just mucking around and threw this together. Given mantras give you so many interrupts, I wondered if furious interrupts couldn’t find a home in a MoPain focused build. You’d know that the moment you interrupted your foe you could fire off 3x MoPain’s in the 3 seconds of quickness you’re given. I also wondered if some interesting sigil choices might make for some good bonus damage (MoPain spike during a focus pull with impact sigil).
Not yet, but we have a plan and, barring a setback, it will be in before the end of the year. Keep in mind, the solution we are rolling out is just a general solution to make it feasible to make them without running fractals, not necessarily a WvW focused solution.
Can you offer any information on your ideas behind that? Will it be a item that will just replace the fractal item in the mystic forge? Also is it going to be a item that can be obtained through regular game play and not force people to run particular content?
It will be and it will fall in line with the other Ascended crafted gear. I don’t want to talk specifics until we are locked in, but the idea would be that you can relatively easily acquire the item that is replacing the fractal item. You will still be able to use the fractal items as well.

so all in all the match was balanced, and the 2v1’s were more about strategy anyways.
I remember at one night this week when we, SoR, lost our entire BL.
Boastful isn’t what BG or SoR should be on the forums. However much diplomacy comes into warfare, they will always be known as the servers that couldn’t beat round one without sleeping with the enemy.

Hi mesmers. I’m here asking if PU power builds are any good in WvW. I tried the Blackwater build a while ago and I liked the stealthing and boons and whatnot but I hated the fact that because it is condi it starts losing effectiveness the second i join a zerg or go back to PvE. I have a suggestion. For new players to learn like the rest of us did. Charging out into the battlefield, going down, falling off the wrong cliffs, dying all over the place, finding builds on the forums, discussing “MOAR PVT” on the channels, and generally getting out kitten together through learned experience. We’re stronger players for it today.

Ross, is that full rabid gear? I’ve been experimenting with sword/torch myself to improve burstiness/chasing ability, and trying to figure out a balance between direct damage and conditions. I might try out scepter/focus instead of staff since that means I can probably swap out centaur runes for something more condition’y (+ gives a pulling tool).

Orion is correct, you will need to have done enough damage to the gate to get credit for the achievement.
So now it’s not only next to impossible to tag anywhere nearly as well in a large scale fight as a mesmer to get bags/kills, you cant even get a basic achievement against an inanimate object….

Ross Biddle: I’ve been using your build in sPvP to try it out and I like it. Been dueling with my brothers and at one point one of them yelled “Where are you!!” It was great. I’m assuming I’ll have more condi dmg in WvW and PvE since sPvP really just seems to put you down to the bare essentials? Also, pistol be alright too? And if I want, change a few traits if necessary to bring staff?
You must be talking about Poisoned Apples. Yes pistol is an option and it was discussed in the build thread. It simply required a trait change (pistol cooldown). Though that was before the pistol fix, and it made the build more single target focused. You also lose the defense from iWarden (eats all projectiles), and swiftness/pull from curtain.
I made the build to do away with staff as I’d been running it since release and found its weakness frustratingly lacking. If you want to go with a staff condi build, Blackwater is probably where it’s at as it was made more recently in history after the various mesmer and meta changes. Use staff if you like, while a powerful passive aggressive, defensive weapon, I feel its a waste untraited, which is a waste of a trait (I wont start on sigils etc).
Oh yeah, the other thing you’ll have on top of more condi damage is 100% condi duration (not possible in spvp).

Buffs are nothing, sometimes they have buffs, sometimes you have buffs, sometimes nobody has buffs. Playing past buffs is, or has to be rather, part of the package.

In addition, you should look at it this way, if people flee lower league servers to get into the top leagues, it opens the opportunity for people to move to those lower leagues and finish 1st or 2nd, rather than being in the top league and finishing 6th or 7th. The rewards for finishing 2nd in the Bronze League will be markedly better than the rewards for finishing 6th in the Gold league.
queuing times aside, if this is true then another huge mistake is in the offing.
My guess is that the rewards that are currently being considered will indeed be quite substantial which is grossly unfair to players who complete the meta achievement in the worlds which finish in the lower places, regardless of the tier.

I’d just like to make a note of one thing that I think people aren’t considering when they transfer to stacked worlds. You will not, repeat will not, be able to receive the reward based on overall world place in the league, unless you achieve the meta achievement for the season. If you aren’t able to get into WvW much, you won’t get the rewards. So it is absolutely taking a risk to transfer to a world that has a large WvW population.
It’s not like people weren’t told.
It’s been said time and time again: What about those customers who chose their world upon release and never transferred? Worse yet, what if your world became stacked as a result of Anet opening up free transfers? Absolutely no room for legitimate complaint?

Week ago this was full forums was full of transfer talk and recruitment.
Even if you are on server with queues from day 1, that dont approve you to blame Anet for queues. Blame players not Anet.
WvW have some limits and everybody know it. Even those guys who play from day 1.
But there was a panic that only top tiered servers will get WvW achivements and rewards, so massive recruitement topics were opened. People started to move to high population servers, even that other players with “common sense” warned them from queues. Event Anet spend a word about queues.You can blame Anet for maps with limit, but not for queues that are for the last few days.

Not only do they have their own servers, but you’ve got to look at the positive side. Think of China as a MASSIVE injection of $$. More money means a bigger team. Bigger team means more developments. The WvW population might make up the same 20% that the NA and EU servers do, but that’s still big numbers.
So what happens when all these queue annoyed guilds fan out to other servers, and the PvE crowd get their achievements and go back to PvE land? Suddenly we’re back to complaining about coverage wars and server imbalances?
JQ might have gone a bit silly, but SoR is in a good place. Just got to get through the weekend. No big deal.
Blame all the guilds that transferred to your server over the past couple of weeks, not anet.
why, those guilds didn’t put the pve achievements into wvw, anet did, and anet made transfers cheap and even free for those weeks before season started. So no, I blame Anet.

I use it all the time, and what the above says is true. Only thing to add is don’t use it while blinded.
Doesn’t matter what you were looking for, what matters is what you got. Any attempt to recruit when you were already in T1 is called stacking. Yes to compete with the top already stacked servers you have to stack – but recruiting people is not what I call building community.
Building community is reaching out to those already on your server and getting them involved in wvw. Now achievements have done that for you and you have long queues. So you have 2 choices:
1) Deal with it
2) Transfer to a server with no queues.Whining on the forum will get you no where and no sympathy from any player that has had to fight a stacked server.
What I find interesting is why you think your sympathy matters, or has anything to do with technical problems associated with the game.

Take note of what Pyro said, and see that in all those warrior fights I never have all my escapes on cooldown at once.
As for hard condi-counter warrior builds, that’s countered by high condition duration plus power/crit blends.

Blackwater can’t chase, so you’re going to run into the problem of people running away using that build.
I run a PU utilizing build, very different from Blackwater, no staff, but applies conditions in the same typical manner (clone death, scepter, torch). Have a watch for some ideas.

Since patch my warrior feels really weird.
Sometimes my damage halves on enemies. This can be anything, mob, npc or player.
Sometimes my crit deals half of the damage randomly,but it’s not because of buffs or protection on mobs. And neither glancing.It just randomly happens.
I also seen that I died much faster in WvW against the same enemies somehow.Anybody having the same experience?
Sounds like Warriors need a rare, but powerful buff.
1) Balancing tagging disparity in combat
2) Dramatically improving loot in WvW
3) Players breathing on each other should result in tagging, or coughing vulnerability on them
I see two options here.
1) Download and use something reliable, even free like Bandicam.
or
2) Call your grandma over to help run you through it.
It’s fixed. We can rejoice at getting Mesmer love anywhere we can. Pyro’s usually pretty bleak/stark in his posting. I think in this thread it serves better than it has anywhere else, and I agree with him.
What skills can you combine to escape? Ima blow your mind here. Remember that weapon that you say sucks? The focus? What if I told you that a traited focus hardcounters a longbow warrior.
That, or dodge. Intelligent use of a major game mechanic works too.
It irritates me when I see incompetent players blaming the fact that they are bad on game mechanics instead of realizing it for what it is.
Let me be absolutely blunt Ash: You are a bad player. You understand game mechanics poorly. You seem to be unable to figure out obvious counters or relations between skills and how to use them. It is entirely possible for you to stop being bad and learn to be a good player, but you first have to recognize that you are bad and stop blaming your losses on game mechanics.
The skill that is not only 25 second cooldown but also needs 20 points into Inspiration. Not really the best counter for it. Not as if they could just use Rush to go past it, or even just strife left or right and boom it is no longer a threat.
Great counter that is. They could savage leap past it and then use the Longbow then all of threat of the Warden is lost. Who really gets hit by all the hits anyway?
It also irritates me when very arrogant people see what they want to see. You can continue read what they like – where have i blamed ANYTHING on the game? You seem to think that i am bad for thinking a different way to you – childish.
Continue to think that the class is fine. My Engineer requires ONE kit and 10 trait points and its faster than a Mesmer. From Point A to point B Mesmer is very slow. THAT is what i am saying.
I have no issues catching Mesmers on My Engineer. I have no issues catching them on my Ele, of course killing them on ele is another thing. SO you going on about how i dont know anything is just well sad.
I do perfectly fine in the game thanks, i have no issues killing people – catching some of them is another matter – try catching a Warrior that spams all the movement skills and then uses Warhorn for the swiftness. Unless you get lucky with a Pistol shot its going to be VERY hard.
So as i said, continue to think you are the best thing that has ever touched the Mesmer class. Simply because someone doesnt agree with you doesnt mean they are wrong or they are bad. So maybe get off your high horse once in a while…
I have no problem chasing and shutting down a warrior. It can take a bit of time to wear some of the more durable ones down at times, but they all go down eventually. So if it’s possible for me to do it using whats available to the mesmer class right now, what explanation do you have for your failure? Is the problem really the class?
P.S. I don’t use pistol.
If you catch that warrior as a mesmer then that same warrior is bad. You have no way of catching a decent warrior who is not brain-afk.
This is AN example, but certainly not the most extreme/difficult I’ve had to deal with.
Chasing down a warrior as a mesmer, or any class really, is never a matter of the two applying swiftness then spamming their gap openers/closers. If that’s all there is to it then yeah, the warrior has the advantage. Of course if that’s how you’ve seen it then your experience is lacking in that area. With enough swiftness and gap closers, coupled with enough cc and good application of it, a warrior can be stopped and forced to either fight, or die running.

It’s not the speed while in combat that I want. I want speed out of combat because I play WvW and I can’t keep up with other players. I’m always late to reach the target
(Dolyak/Camp…………..) so I don’t get anything.
Note that this is an excessive collection of options (air runes equating 100% swiftness boon duration), but you will race ahead of the zerg to the camp etc every time.

Watch the minimap for the commander tag + zerg behind, and see the thief in front. In the vid I’ve absorbed zerg buffs, so didnt even need to burn the temporal curtain. But even without the zerg you can maintain 100% swiftness anyway (once you’re out in front the zergs buffs wont reach).
I don’t run 100% swiftness duration btw, nor boon duration food. It’s excessive for what you’ll need. But if you want to get in and tag everything before the zerg arrives, there are certainly ways to build for it.
