How about they make an official fractals server so all those pesky people who are just doing fractals will stop hindering TCs WvW effectiveness? Or sPvP, or farmers, or people leveling alts, they all need their own servers too, right?

Forums full of negative-non in game? Why?

Rustypipes.6238

I don’t mind complaints, even from the regulars on the forums. What I do dislike however are the people who parrot the exact same thing in every thread whether it has any bearing to the topic or not.

Forums in general are a place for people to voice their opinions, over the last several years it has become the place for disgruntled players to throw out made up percentages and spew forth opinions claiming them to be facts with no evidence to back up their claims. The D3 forums were probably the worst I had ever seen in my gaming life, and I played WoW for 8 years.

So, I say let the complainers complain, every once in a while a sliver of gold filters through the flood of crap that is actually a decent idea to improve on the game.

Thief or Mesmer?

Thieves are pretty much the same, they really start to find their place around level 30. I am an avid lover of the assassin/rogue/thief/stealth class/profession. I make and play one first in every MMO that has such a class but in GW2 it was hard to get into at first, which is why my Necro was my first 80.

Once I learned a play style that I liked (dual dagger – death blossom – conditions) I now love my Thief at level 80. I love to run around gathering up 5-10 mobs and death blossom/dodge roll (caltrop traited) and then watch them all die a slow and painful death. Even some champions if I have enough free space and they do not have a hard hitting spammable range ability, then i just make like a ninja and poof the kitten out.

I have (and still do) Pent and Shelter, but never alone. There is always someone there on my server (Tarnished Coast) pretty much anytime of day. There are NPCs who do assist to a point but if you are there alone, then it’s probably best to avoid.

But that’s a DE, not the whole of the map.

Ok, I do not know what you people who complain about the endless CC Spam are talking about. Do you try to run through everything to get to point to point or what? I seriously have never been CC spammed to death on 3 different characters through Orr (2 with complete maps).

Have I died? Yes, plenty but not because of CC spam, usually from taking on more than I could handle or trying to solo something I knew I shouldn’t have.

It’s pretty simple, try to wrap your head around it. Know your escape route and know your profession’s limits.

I guess I play in a different Orr than you.

I’m so glad out judicial system works the way it does and not because someone said they are innocent.

Fact is, no one but Anet and the people who got banned know exactly what happened. Anet monitors and logs everything, they didn’t just see someone had 50 items that were being exploited posted on the TP and decide to drop the ban hammer. They know who did what and to what extent and dealt with it how they felt was best.

I quoted it early and I will paraphrase it again. Anet has the right to ban anyone for any reason, or for no reason at all.

But like mentioned, you have to want to play a Necro to play a Necro.

I went to FSG for the first time the other day to do the map completion on my Thief and was taken back at the shear beauty of this area after leveling 3 characters through Orr.

I enjoyed it so much I took my Necro there as soon as I got my map completed and did it on him as well, then, I started with my Ranger.

Don’t get me wrong though, I enjoy Orr for what it is, a battle zone for the eminent threat that is Zhaitan and his army of unforgiving, relentless undead. It’s battered and broken landscape captures the struggle of war and death very well, but FSG is one of the reason I love this game, it’s just visually stunning.

But I think the best thing about FSG for me was fighting the claw of Jorlag, I mean Jormag. Although the fight was laggy, chaotic and brutal as a first timer to dragon fighting outside of the personal story of Claw Island, I enjoyed it through all 5 frames per second of it (There were aproximately 50 people there the 3 times I did it, maybe more).

My next character is a Norn warrior, I think I will just hit up FSG and avoid Orr on him until he is level 80.

What's wrong with FPS in caves?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rustypipes.6238

Rustypipes.6238

That is not the only reason. If you have the bug I do, you can see through the world sometimes and see the HUGE objects used to make a tiny wall. I’m talking tip of the iceberg scenarios where mountain sized rocks are used to make tiny ledges the size of an asura. It’s all the geometry your PC is processing that you don’t even see that is contributing to that fps loss in caves.

If you are using an Nvidia card, turn off ambient occlusion in your control panel/3d settings. I updated my drivers yesterday to the 310.70s and this started happening. I found a thread in tech support (where this thread probably should be) that discussed the issue and someone posted this fix.

I do not know if this is what’s causing the low frame drops in the bandit caves for some people, I went there before turning off AO and didn’t have any issues, but it may fix them for others.

I’m not “fan boying” the thread, just pointing out a simple fact that you seem to disagree with, which is fine, but your opinions are not facts.

Doing some exploring I noticed as I suspected earlier that it seems the game is using low res character textures, because the rest of the game seems to look the same with exception of a few aoe nerco abilities that look like they suffer from banding (will get a shot of these later), anyway, I took this screenshot of Eir and if you notice her tattoos are terribly pixelated except for the ones on her face, they look normal.

Help me optimizing my GW2 according to my PC

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Rustypipes.6238

Rustypipes.6238

It’s a CPU issue. GW2 relies heavy on the CPU.

In heavy populated areas, like Lion’s Arch, you will really notice the bottleneck of your CPU. I suggest going to a major city and opening up the options, pay attention to the frame rate in the bottom right corner of the options window and play around with settings and see how it affects your frame rate. Pan your camera around to get a good idea of what is acceptable and playable.

Also you can adjust as you play and find that happy medium.

Class with best ranged/melee capability?

I think Warriors are the best at both worlds. Sometimes, I play my warrior exclusively at range for a change of pace and because I can do it well enough.

Unsure on Which Class to play out of 3

DaggerDagger – Shortbow condition Thief here, I have no problem taking on groups (of mobs, not players, that’s a whole different scenario) and if the kitten hits the fan, I can fall back on my trusty steath and gtfo.

Because of that unique ability that other classes do not have, it is my chosen profession to farm crafting materials (ores, wood and food stuffs) and do my 100% map completion. There is nothing in the world more satisfying to a Thief then to run up to a commune skill point challenge that is guarded by a veteran and his cronies and hit shadow refuge, get my skill point and teleport out to the closest way point or simply walk through the gang of baddies while giggling to myself from the pure feeling of awesome that the Thief profession is.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rustypipes.6238

Honestly, the issue is you. Get mad, get tired, get frustrated I really don’t care because the major issue here is you.

I hate to be so blunt and come off as a kittenhole but I have leveled a Thief through Orr, got my map completions and farm there regularly and I have never, ever been chain knocked down. I don’t even ever recall having 5 brutes on me at any given time because I pay attention to my surroundings and always chose the path of least resistance.

I play 99.9% of the time solo, I have no friends who play and my guild and I are on different servers (I left the medium populated one for a full one).

So I’m sorry to come off as a “LOL L2Play NOOB” kittenhole but…it’s you.

Where is Everyone?

Rustypipes.6238

It is true that Humans are the dominant race in the game and some of the other low level race specific areas a much less populated than the human and norn areas. I think the biggest reason for this is because there are too many areas for each race and people who create the least represented races migrate to the populated areas (human/norn). Almost all of my characters are human, not because of low population but because I simply prefer them over the other races.

The game world is huge, each race has their own maps and the personal stories rarely send the player to the other maps until the 40-50 range IIRC.

Many players like to get to max level and find out that it’s not like other MMOs, there are no raids and loot doesn’t rain from the sky drenching them in the best gear in a week, this is a big turn off for a lot people who expected GW2 to be WoW2.

The devoted GW1 fans also are not happy with the game because it’s not GW1 with better graphics.

These are just my opinions, and unlike many people here I do not count my opinion as fact.

Does your profession fit your playstyle?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rustypipes.6238

Rustypipes.6238

Thief fits my play style very well, especially when it comes to exploring and not wanting to fight everything to get to the end of a cave or to a specific poi/vista/skill challenge. I can’t tell you how many times I picked up a skill challenge (commune) that was guarded by a veteran simply by using shadow refuge.

The ability to completely remove myself from a fight is always great and the Thief does this well.

My other option is my Necro. Hard to kill, running with my own personal army (stupid as they can be at times) and lots of AoE to tackle the biggest groups of mobs or the ability to solo group bosses.

Melee is Not "Worth it" With some bosses

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rustypipes.6238

Rustypipes.6238

I’m going to reply specifically to your reference of WoW and melee taking less damage. This is true, however almost every single boss fight in WoW, since WotLK has been melee unfriendly. Mechanics that require moving in and out, aoe damage and cleaves (particularly bad with tank switching) it’s just as bad but the only difference is healers can sometimes keep the melee alive…sometimes.

You said your main is a Guardian, and I will admit I do not know a ton about the profession but I know there are abilities that reduce incoming damage or negate it completely, heals out the wazoo, condition removals, boon granting skills, ability to prevent the mob from getting to you, roots, blinds, knock backs, shields, blocks…etc…

Dodge is not the only tool on your belt. It sounds to me you want all of what the Guardian has to offer and that of the other professions in the game.

If that were the case, there would be 0 reason to play anything other than the Guardian.

I really want them to focus on making Guilds better and more robust. With a Guild Hall, guild events and of course GvG pvp. I think that alone would make a lot of people happy.

Like Aiden said, make dueling a thing. I can’t believe they did not have this option in the game.

I’m pretty neutral on player housing, although I’m sure it would make the RPers much happier. LotRO had a pretty nice player housing concept and I would invest some gold/gems in a similar housing scenario.

My opinion of underwater combat

Rustypipes.6238

Necromancers are in desperate need of an underwater elite.

This.

Why can I not use a flesh golem under water…or any of my elite skills?

I love the underwater combat and the whole underwater system in the game. Ele just needs better options with weapon skills because it does kinda suck to have timed “mine” that can be completely useless and miss most of the time even when circle kiting.

Thief on the other hand, harpoon gun is nothing shy of amazing under water. Same for Ranger.
