Working as intended, and that’s a good thing.
If you are dying a lot, it’s you and not the encounter.
Units.
The question now becomes, wtf is a unit?
I don’t even know anyone who uses X-Fire for any game that I have played, ever. Why has the miniscule numbers they represent become the dipstick for a game’s health?
Time.
The game is 3 months old and has a ton of valid issues and a ton of invalid whining. They have to sort through all of them, try to recreate bugs people report, try to isolate glitches and sift through trillions of line of code to find that one small piece that causes the issue(s). On top of this you have bot control and things to keep the end game player active and interested.
This takes time, some things are easier to isolate and fix than others, some people meet their deadline for content releases and some don’t for whatever reason. Anet are only human, they have lives and families. Sometimes your child gets sick, sometimes you get sick and these delay productivity.
I think a lot of people forget these things and just want everything done right now, this second or the world is crumbling beneath them.
Be patient, you aren’t paying a monthly fee.
Time.
That video makes me want to play a Guardian. I have been wanting to but I have 5 alts already and not sure which race to use, except Charr, will not be Charr…ever.
Also, you’re Mos Def aren’t you? You can tell us, we’re like family here.
Here is what I have:
Thief – 60 – Human
Warrior – 34 – Norn
Ranger – 37 – Norn
Necro – 53 – Human
Ele – 15 – Sylvari
Empty Character Slot
I want an Asura in the mix, never will be Charr because they just don’t do it for me.
So my professions to choose from are:
Mesmer
Engineer
Guardian
I have leveled a Memser to 17, it was Norn and I had enough Norn and wasn’t really all that impressed with the Mes up to that point.
I’ve dabbled with the other two, but not even to level 10.
I am not opposed to making another Thief, because they are fun but I have a certain play style I stuck with on the Human and could do another build as I level.
I have yet to do any dungeons or participated in any pvp, if that makes a difference.
So help me decide what my little Asura could be please.
I play a Minion Mancer Necro and the pets are frustrating until they fix their complete random kittenedness, but I do not have to keep up with them because I can pretty much destroy everything in my wake up to this point (level 52).
I focus my gear on condition damage and my traits in defense and health using Staff mostly with Axe/Dagger on switch right now but every 10 levels or so I change up to Scepter/Horn or Scepter/Focus and play around with it as the weapon success seems to change as I level.
I feel like a caster, even though I am casting marks and wells and dealing with groups of mobs by a slow painful death.
I enjoy it quite a bit, but it’s not for everyone.
Norns have a Raven form? O.O
As a skill, yes, they also have bear and snow leopard forms.
You encountered a bug, they are looking into it.
Clam down.
(yes I know I spelled it c l a m, it was on porpoise)
I have to admit that the Asura look awesome in the necro gear. I went with Human myself, because Asura are too small and cutesy for my tastes. They have some brilliant NPC interactions though.
If you open your map it has numbers under the area names, those are the levels of that area. If you are looking to push through to a certain level and have nothing more to do in the area you have been playing in, you can go to one of the other areas of the same level and the game will level you down to the appropriate level if need be.
Or if you really want to explore the world, do all the areas!
If Warrior is not your thing, the Ranger is a very good starting class. For your first character, I would go with Human or Norn since those starting areas seem to have the most people in them and the Norn lore and NPC dialog is awesome.
I think this is one of the biggest pitfalls of GW2for new players, people come in and feel utterly lost unless they do some hard research, which a lot of people either do not know how to do or just refuse to and the game doesn’t hold your hand like some other MMOs.
You already made the biggest step, asking for help. This game is a wonderful game for the casual player who just wants to enjoy a game, but it does require a certain degree of skill and ability to seek information.
Welcome (back) to GW2, I also suggest finding a guild that would like to help new players, there are some out there.
First off, quit reading the profession forums if you are trying to decide what to play. Every profession section is full of whiners who want their class buffed and all others nerfed, such is the way of the MMO.
To me, the hardest profession to master is the Ele, the most fun is the Necro and the face-rolliest (yes I made that up) is (are) the Warrior and/or Guardian.
To be honest, you have to get further than 10 levels to start feeling like you found the play style you like with a class. I have deleted level 30 somethings because I just didn’t enjoy it and eventually purchased an additional character slot so I would quit deleting so much.
Start with what you think would be something you would enjoy and push it to at least level 20. Don’t try crafting or exploring but do pick up the skill challenge points. Use every weapon combination and pick the one you feel most comfortable/happy with. Try different starting areas and races, explore the options to the fullest.
That’s one of the beauties of this game, no monthly means you can take your time to do whatever you want and not feel like you have to get your money’s worth.
It really serves no real purpose because the small buffs they give aren’t really necessary enough to waste the coppers it costs.
The little boost in stats doesn’t do a whole lot. The only exception of course being MF food which is just epic.
Every little bit helps and it serves a very good purpose.
When you buy a cheese burger and they give you a chicken sammich, you will get your money back or they make you a new cheese burger. That is how the sale of goods and services work. Everywhere. For everything. Period.
This is the worst analogy for this discussion. I can’t even begin to imagine where you thought this up from.
A better analogy would be a that you believe “loaded” hamburger with everything should include cheese, but the seller of the burger disagrees and cheese is extra.
But saying you wanted beef and got chicken is an entirely different thing.
Or just move it higher in the trait line. Trade it with the 25 point passive, which makes perfect sense to people placing points in the line for whatever build but will not go that deep to be forced to use it.
Not telling you something is not dishonest. They didn’t lie.
I agree, they give every class a way to move faster, why not just move faster by default?
Bots are and will be in the game. There is nothing you can do to stop new ones from being created and used. Hackers are smart and diligent and the best Anet can do is gather info to stop them as quickly as they can. Suggesting a wipe and restart is not going to stop new bots, sorry but this is a fact.
A warlock to me (and the definition of a warlock) is a male witch. So no, they cannot have a warlock because it would have to be gender restricted.
They can’t use Demon Master because a lot of players who play the Necro do not use the demons and are just spell casters.
Necromancer is fine, it’s literal definition is broad enough to cover what Anet’s version of the profession is.
Just because your opinion is different, doesn’t make it right (or wrong).
It’s definitely faster, it’s probably just the tool tip did not get updated.
They give you something and now people already want more?
One thing is for certain, a lot of people do not know the plural for thief.
Anet absolutely crushed this patch. they addressed almost everything i can think of that had been wrong with some of the professions i use, and the problems i’ve heard on the forums.
Necromancer pets.
Yeah, this one. Necros did get some love but not where it mattered most, our pets.
I just thank God that ArenaNet has enough sense not to listen to every complaint and “nerf ____!” like Blizzard does.
Except when it comes to Witch Hats?
As a player who loves the MM build, I like this and can’t wait to try it out.
Question on your trait selection though; Wouldn’t Blood Thirst be a better option in the Blood Magic line?
(edited by Rustypipes.6238)
Perhaps these bugs were not ready to make it into this patch and will be featured in the future, hopefully soon. There were a lot of bugs not squashed and even some new ones created.
I came here to report this as well. Very rare it happens but it does happen.
I came here to report this as well.
No I think I will make a “for the lulz” video of people getting one shot by skritt.
Awesome fixes, can’t wait for the Winters Day event since I missed the Halloween one.
in before someone soap boxes this thread for their personal gripes.
Wait wait wait…you mean to tell me, two week before Christmas, something reduced in price?
/mind blown
Don’t like jump puzzles, don’t do them.
Not sure if I understand but are they required?
I just want the option to hide my gloves.
Sometimes I just want to be bare handed.
I made the switch last night to Tarnished Coast, not because I want to RP but because I think that players who are participating in RP will make the game world much more enjoyable as I level through it.
And because I might indulge myself on occasion as well.
The only thing I guess you can say is their questing system but that is the worst part of this game. Horrible questing system. Grind the same 3 events non stop till you level for the next zone isn’t my idea of cutting edge and fun. And please don’t tell me to craft because if you add that as something you need to do to level says it all.
I wanted to quote this because it’s the absolute worst statement in this whole thread.
If this is how you play, you are most definitely doing it wrong.
Grats to GW2, a deserving accolade.
As for the whole is or is not and RPG, the definition of RPG is pretty vast and varies between each individual and therefor should not be argued because there is no right or wrong, only differences of opinions.
I’ll take full credit for this one. I have been praising the game to my friends who insist on playing that other MMO that they hate (yep) and people who don’t even know what a MMO is.
I think NCSoft or ANet or whoever should flood the Cartoon Network prime time lineup with non stop commercials and promote the game.
I only want first person if I can pan my camera down on my female Norn and see my own cleavage.
I did enjoy my thief all the way to 60, and then I rolled a necro and I am happy happy happy.
It boils down to your personal play style and your tolerance for learning curves, each class plays differently but some are harder to master than others and one person’s idea of fun can be drastically different than others. Some enjoy PVP and some just want to PVE, and then some enjoy both.
There are so many factors when deciding what you want to do in the game, the best thing is just to create one, play it and if you do not like it, reroll. Welcome to freedom of choice.
Please keep in mind I am giving my honest opinion on the subject as a casual player who just wants to have a pleasurable experience in a video game.
I like GW2, sure it has bugs but it is a much better game than GW1 was at this point of it’s life. I only played GW1 briefly at the beginning, enough to get a character max level and find nothing to hold my attention. Even leveling, from memory, wasn’t a stellar experience or memorable.
I am not a starry eyed GW1 fanatic. I didn’t come into this game expecting it to be something that would jostle my memory of the old glory days of GW1, I’m just a game player who enjoys the RPG genre and MMOs and GW2 is above all other MMOs released in the last 6 years, I have played almost all of them.
I think a GW1 expansion would have made the GW1 player base a happy bunch, but would not have brought aboard any new players, which is what any company wants, more customers and they did it.
I have already had many memorable experiences while leveling in GW2 and have not encountered any rage inciting bugs or anything that halted my progression or enjoyment of the game. It’s a solid game, a fun game and a beautiful game and I am glad they created it, because I was pretty sick of WoW and GW1 was not going to cut it.
So no, I don’t think they made a mistake at all, and I don’t think they do either.
Valid points are valid points but declaring that you quit from a game with no monthly fee is not really a huge deal, or any deal at all.
I’ve never understood these types of posts.
I wanted to thank the Necro player community for actively working to fixing what I think is the best profession in the game. Keep up the awesome work, it looks like Anet is taking note.
I went with Sylvari at first because you can make the males look sinister as hell, but the personal story (which is a big factor for my immersion) got to this part and ruined it:
Gavin: No, my noble friend. The white stag is coming with me. Once we turn it to the Nightmare, the stag will be a powerful weapon against the Dream.
Gavin: It is a manifestation of hope and faith. In Nightmare, it will be just the opposite — a creature of despair and hatred.
Gavin: Through its power, the Pale Tree will be freed of the chains forged by Ventari’s Tablet.
<Character name>: A weapon? Gavin, this is wrong. The white stag is a peaceful creature. You can’t turn it into something cruel.
Gavin: I can. We can. Come with me. You would be celebrated. Possibly even knighted by the grand duchess herself!
<Character name>: No, Gavin. I’ll never join the Nightmare Court.
Having a weapon of despair and hatred and being knighted by the grand duchess is something my character would enjoy TBH, because I already am a character of despair and destruction and to be a knight, well ho ho yes please. But you do not have an option. So…
So I went human, because you can do the the whole pale bringer of death look easily.
The more I play the more amazed I am at this class. Being able to solo some group event bosses is just simply amazing. If they make some needed changes/fixes in the 12/14 patch I foresee the Necro easily becoming the first profession I take to 80+ (+ being things after end game). I have a 60 Thief which I do enjoy but it gets repetitive after a few hours, but he is awesome at exploring maps, so he will probably the the one I do the 100% with. It’s just too easy to stealth at will.
Anyway, the more time I spend pushing my Necro’s limits, the more I enjoy it.
Happy, happy, happy.
I am an altaholic myself, currently have Thief 60, Ranger 35 and Warrior 33 but I wanted a spell caster type and I love necros/warlocks of previous games so I am trying out the necro and it is pretty kitten good.
Currently running Scepter/Dagger and Staff and building to be a Minion Master. At level 9 I solo’d the Group Boar in Queensdale by the Hunting Lodge. It took forever and other boars kept joining the party but I got it done and that pretty much sealed the deal for me after getting an Ele and Mesmer to 17 and not enjoying their style.
It’s going to be interesting to see what I can do with this character as I level.
I would imagine they would appreciate any form of attention to the game. I would if it were my game.
I was surprised to find that 2h axes were not in the game. They are an iconic part of the fantasy genre as a whole.
Role play can be amazing when done right and allow yourself to personify the characters. I haven’t participated in RP in a very long time (Nevrwinter Nights was the last time) but as an old table top Dungeons & Dragons player/gm it can make for some great memories, even if they are made up.
