Power Necro is hard countered by focus from medi guards and other instant burst professions at the start of the match.

But…

If I start pooling up my Life Force, I can quickly trash half of premades, without Lich or #1 spamming. I find those 2 rather ineffective and I use Lich for downed cleaving in teamfights.

Power Necro can take down Mesmers in teamfights in a matter of seconds, can rip Thieves in parts within two seconds, obliterate S/F eles (who are not that rare now) once they use their earth cooldowns, make quick work of other Necromancers, have rather favorable matchup with any Engi that isn’t turret and puts hell lot of pressure at celestials.

I would say it’s perfectly viable. But I haven’t seen many good Power Necros yet.

I think there should be more options for units than just bomb carriers and archers.
Suplementing the areas your team composition lacks in like for example, sturdy melee NPC and balancing out the army would’ve been much more fun I think.

It seems very basic and kind of unoriginal for me. I wish they were a little bit more creative when it comes to systems like those.

I mean, why spend supplies on Archers in the early game when some staff ele will get rid of all guarding NPCs in a matter of seconds? And they can’t harass players.
Get treb, bombard mid, spend supplies on massing bomb carriers and treb repairs. Once gate is down, mass archers, leave the treb, lure the AI out of the base into the range of archers, go ham.

Too basic, too simplistic. I fear that it will very quickly become stale once players find out one or two tactics. Played too many RTSes to not see this coming.

“The Skill” comes from many sources.

Many assume that because Engineer, for example, has so many skills and buttons to operate on (or Ele for similar reasons) it’s so much more skillful than Warrior or Ranger.

When some builds are indeed pretty easy to understand and are fairly tanky like shoutbow, you have to keep in mind that not only amount of skills matter.

It’s also the execution.

Warrior for the most part has fairly obvious animation tells, so his skill will come from setting them up and executing with success, overcoming the clear tell disadvantage by counting the dodges, for example.

Necromancer has more HP but it’s gameplay is so much pro-active. You have to think foward to position yourself right or maybe trick your foe. It doesn’t have that many options, as an Engineer for example, but in his case, a single skill execution means so much less, mostly. Necro may withstand more condi damage than a Thief but if his proactive defense fails and he gets ganged up it’s just “oh snap, I will have to think more about that the next time” and he dies, but for example a Thief or a Mesmer may just be reactive here and get away with evade or distortion.

Ranger. People really bash them. But often miss so many “skillful” things, like managing the pets, countering the burst or so. Immobilizing a foe with Muddy Terrain to follow up with Hilt Bash&SotH and score big burst with Owl’s F2 and Maul is no less skillful than perfect execution of Shatter combo.

OP, for tl;dr. The meaning of “skillful”, “best”, “most pro elo hardcore” is so fluid, biased and ridiculous that it’s not worth paying attention to. “Skillful” comes in different forms, so just try all professions and decide what you like the best.

You could go just 2 or 4 and get Vital Persistence with maybe Last Gasp minor. These 2 points hardly make a difference if you don’t plan on using Foot in the Grave and you miss exactly 2 points on Spite tree to get Chill of Death and bonus condi duration.

5 SR minor also doesn’t do much for Condi.

Another option is getting Transfusion or Staff Mastery, both very good traits for 2 points.

(had to let him win every 5, so he would get discouraged)…. but yea, dont waste ur time with top players… Phanta and nos and wakkey are all easy kills.. if u wnna get better just fight vs urself on another computrr

Yeah especially that “Backpack” guy, what an easy kill. He runs around saying he’s the best engi, but then gets 100-0ed by power rangers. Oh well, maybe one day he will improve.

Dies to random AoE and AoE condition flood. Turrets cannot be crit hit and are immune to condi, that’s why they are superior and played in solo joins.

i just want power necros to have a unique skill combination to get there damage out, 11111111111 for days seems cheap, on my engineer (no meta) it involves quite a few clicks and decent timing and having a power necro run in with its ds or lich and just 1111111ing me to death just feels cheap and nasty, essentially im okay with the damage but im much rather be like “o nice that necro just did this this and this and wreaked me with it” rather then “o great he really showed me how skillful he was with that auto”, now i know that you notice a good power necro because of how well he utilizes his ds and other such things but i doubt itll be hard for a good necro to use good timing and skill combinations to pull off something amazing.

Try playing Power at any decent level. Spamming Life Blast is probably the worst tactic Necro can do against competent opponents.

If you want to see how Power Necro is meant to be played, you can message me in-game. You’d be surprised about the complexity of timing and thinking involved.

I would say, you have to have much better game knowledge, awarness and fast thinking with Power Necro than for example, an Engineer. It’s all pro-active.

This is for pvp purpose.
Id switch our land auto with underwater auto, BUT adjust dps to stay same.

Basicaly trading slower big hits for smaller faster hits.
Pros:
less OP underwater condi transfer
Less blind/dodge/interupt/walk-through-to-cancel-cast in pvp
Easier might stacking with trait
More reliable but small dmg, not those oneshot wombo combos of DS1+fire+air+chill

Cons:
none for us, maybe a few more hits from retal lol

From what I know, Plague Blast will do more damage over 5-10 seconds than Life Blast and would be much easier to land + transfer a condition. If you want to burst, you do it with Dagger anyway and simple change like this would just grab Powernecros and lift to the very top.

Standing in Black Powder? No prob, Plague always hits, transferring Blind back.

We need changes, but more advanced and in-depth than something like switching Life with Plague Blast. Simple change to AA like this would make Power Necros a one man army with just an autoattack.

Yes, it is deliberate and anet has stated so before.

You have to realize that the swords ability to stay on target is insane. And in my opinion it outweighs its minor effect on evading.

#2, insane WHERE??? … Structured PvP only? most of the people who rolled rangers, never wanted to PvP in the first place. Why do they have to suffer for an advantage that only exists in one tiny little niche mode of the game?

Dunno. Double shoutbow and some cele engis or eles on top is annoying. When they clump up, the amount of healing, boons and condi removal really makes it tough for a single Necro to get through all that. It feels like a WvW zerg and just doesn’t want to die.

Or kill anyone, but makes games very stale and annoying.

There can be also another option for “multiple guild teams”.

Guild with more than one team would he represented by one with better MMR/score. If we split ranked system into some kind of leagues, there could be one best guild team per league, for example.

Like on the leaderboards there would be Guilds, but when you click on one, there’s also a bonus ranking list of current guild teams.

Not a perfect solution, but an option.

If you want to kite, Staff or Shroud with LB do the job much better for Power Necro, imo. Axe is 600-900 range and A/Wh combo:

-has 2 skills with AoE cripple. May be nice, but most meta builds don’t care that much about cripples. To have the second souce of cripple, you have to be in melee contact range what isn’t that amazing. Doesn’t work for me. Locust Swarm is awesome dps/LF gen increase in melee though, procs on clones, pets, eats blinds and blocks, procs tons of Bleeds from Barbed Precision.

-you have cone daze. But it’s easier to land it in melee range, allows you to do more LF gain/damage with dagger against tough opponents like Medi Gaurd.
Wail doesn’t help Axe that much. You can kite, interrupt. But Axe isn’t the main set you go for in tPvP, you don’t want to camp it. It’s aggressive damage follow-up. Dagger does the job much better.

First off, Axe and Warhorn have the worst synergy ever.

Second, I don’t know what you mean by “spectral build”. Is it something in line of SAttunement + CDR and 3 spectral utilities? Or what? I do play Power Necro, but using just Spectral Armor with no supporting traits doesn’t qualify I guess.

Third, Axe is a burst rotation/Near to Death build weapon, Staff has inherit poison+chill and is better for less bursty gameplay.

Could we get some schedule for such “teasers” and “previews” on the main site, similar to what’s been done with September Feature Pack?

Maybe just for a month or so, but it would be easier to access and people would have the general idea.

From me:

We’ve seen that Jory has specific animation for Necro GS. Will Charrs get a distinct one, considering our GS animations differ quite a lot from human-shaped toons and races. Could use a preview, too.

Question number two, regarding specs:

I get that Specs may “fill up” certain spaces professions are lacking.
But were they also designed to maybe expaand on specific playstyles? For example, let’s say Necro GS specs brings dungeon tools like cleave or boons. But will it expand on idea of Power Necro, maybe making some mechanics more encouraging and so on?

i’m not saying there can’t be charr spellcasters but from the perspective of recent charr history they are definitely less of a thing compared to other races.

say you were a charr cub at a fahrar, on one hand everyone is so proud of the warmachines your society built, on the other no one trusts or like spellcasters too much, even if you were gifted would you rather get your hands of that nice rifle that is a charr great achievement or learn some stupid magic that your instructor doesn’t even like?

i say, lore wise, charr necros (casters overall) don’t really fit this era as much as the other races.

My Charr disagrees.

Charr Necromancers may not be as popular overall among Soldiers as Warriors or such.

But Ash Legion has quite a number of Necros (Life Siphon).

Besides, if you’re not like everyone else around, you become more valuable.

Ok and one more completely unrelated question: with the terror trait: if they currently have fear and you reapply it, do they take damage again or is it only when they are without fear and then gain it? I searched around and couldnt find an answer.

Terror turns Fear into a damage-over-time condition. The longer they’re feared, the more damage they take, just like Burning. Still has its usual effects, though.

Now, if someone else (say a Ranger with wolf pet) applies Fear, when that duration is running its course, they don’t take damage from Terror.

That plus if You spread any other applied fear with Epidemic to more targets, targets (except the one you’re spreading from, originally) will get Fear from You, so it does proc Terror.

I.e. Ranger fearing his target for 10 seconds with MoC and Boar’s bundle skull, you spread it to other targets, Terror procs on other targets.

Imo the key of winning is corrupting Vigor as soon as the mesmer gains it (with either path of corruption of Corrupt Boons – the mesmer will mainly have might and vigor, corruption them inflicts weakness and bleeding). This is a huge blow to them.

To mitigate the danger of PoC try to bodyblock Dark Path with a clone whenever the nec enters DS – while Dark path is homing (and does that very well), it does not pierce so if you’re close enough to your clone you can save yourself. If you have staff, you can make your phase retreat clone tank it.

Just don’t get too close. It has radius.

Just position the clone between the projectile and yourself.

First thoughts when I see a mesmer? I am going to rek ur kitt!
I play power necro so mesmers a very easy. Almost as easy as a thief. Only reason they aren’t is because they stun/ interrupt you more. Only give them about 5 extra seconds (max) than a thief but that isn’t saying much. Thieves only take 5 or less to take down (unless they run of course).

If I can imob/daze you…you dead unless you blink.

You say power necro is easiest? Then you aren’t playing against anyone good. Be all end all, if I have full DS you can blow every interupt and util you have and you will still die. Power necro average hit on mesmer with Life blast is 6-7k. I can throw those all day with full DS… If you don’t see me coming, you will be dead before you know what hit you as well. Thieves and Mesmers are #1 easiest targets for power necro. Only way you survive is to double zerk me with coordination.

That is my opinion Yes, Mesmer hurts a lot. But not hard enough. You let me free cast for even 2 seconds and you are dead. Gotta put me into defensive mode asap is your best option.

If, as a Power Necro against competent opponent, you want to sit in Shroud and just cast Life Blasts, you won’t get far.

vs Mesmer: The Necro Perspective?

I kind of like facing Mesmers. Not when it’s someone+Mesmer, but for example 1v1.

I run two builds which are both very capable of killing any Mesmer. The key with most is just element of surprise, interrupt on any rotation skill and sheer aggression. Channeled skills like Ghastly Claws also work.

To be honest, on a conquest node, there’s not much Mesmer can do to down my Necro, especially Condi for this matter. They’re much more dangerous on open field.

Mesmers have things I like on Condi build – Boons and conditions I can transfer. Self-explainatory I guess.

Now, there are some “exceptions”. Lockdown mesmers. Those are really tough to fight and I prefer my Power build for them in general.
Most of my experience in duelling them comes from duels with Warlord. I’d say it’s sometimes luck, sometimes good trick. If you can force lockdown mesmer to go defensive early on or really mess up his rotation, that’s the win for you.

Sigil of Torment on Terrormancer

It’s nice for Hybrids.
But for Terrormancer? I don’t feel like swapping Carrion Amulet with Scav runes for Rabid and one condition I can have in every fight.

It’s surely next go-to for Rangers and Engis, though.
