How about realizing that any competent player can curb stomp a thief and a change is unnecessary. The only ones in danger are the glass damage dealers. Rock meet paper.

Those lead to no improvements, yet you complain that rangers continue to push the pet issue?

The reason for what seems baffling to a player is that as a developer, you generally don’t fix symptoms. So right now, they cannot fix pet-pathing. They don’t have anyone who’s far enough into the engine to re-code that entire part.

However, as a host of issues (Because please, do you really think that this is about ranger pets? Really? They’re part of it, but this affects everything, Mesmers, Ele, Necro, Ranger, Guardian, Engineer, all of PvE ,everything is struggling due to the pathing issues.) are dependent on the matter, you still want to rewrite it.

And hence you push the issue back. “Will be fixed with pathing changes”.

That’s their problem, not the players.’ Sorry but rangers have waited 2 years.

As the title says, is there some super build that just allows a theif to come back from near death to full hp and still pump out damage at an unholy level?

Just happened to me. 23 bleed, 5 torment stacks, burning and poison from a sigil. I can’t see his hp bar and he just cartwheels away and full bar heals himself with a lunge back skill.

WTF is that kitten? What is the skills name? Oh btw, it totally cleanses all of my condis.

Well how else do you expect a thief to actually have a chance against you? Want him to stand out in the open and let you destroy him? Stop your whining and realize that thieves must have stealth (ninja escape alternatives) and above normal damage in order for them to actually be a freaking thief and have equal opportunity in the battlefield.

This is exactly how I feel about my ele but he doesn’t get stealth.

There is no doubt that ele’s have their own problems but they have other things that compensate for their lack of health/armor, some just need buffed back up since they were nerfed for SPVP. The only thing the thief excels at in this game is being a roamer and that stems from poor class design. Stealth is the only thing that keeps the class afloat and once that’s nerfed into the ground the class needs a complete rework.

I really wanted the thief in this game to be like the trickster in Spellborn. It should have been more about short range teleporting to keep your opponent from landing skills. At most a stealth from a low cooldown utility. You can see they kind of went that direction but instead of fleshing it out they said screw it at tossed stealth on everything.

Thieves don’t have the lowest HP unless they spec full glass. Same as every other class. I have a low stealth thief, and I do just fine. So the evidence is against you. The problem is that most thieves want to have their cake and eat it too – great stealth defense and the ability to gank at will.

thieves have very good defense if specced properly. the issue is that I can go full beserker and never pay the price, unlike other classes. play a full beserker on any other class and try to escape every single fight. If you are dying as a thief, you need to l2p, sorry.

Anet refuses to balance our class. Other games will force their hand.

Also, I know the balance patch had been delayed until summer, but it will be at least October by the time the profession CDI are done so don’t expect anything meaningful to come to fruition until 2015.

What I took away:
1. There is no compromise to be made on removing pets from rangers or giving rangers an option to trade higher dps for no pets.

2. Pet AI is tied to mob AI animation. As a result, the broken pet skills and inability to hit moving targets cannot or will not be fixed (because it’s too expensive to fix)

So since neither 2 nor 1 can be addressed, I am puzzled as to what else is there to discuss? We all agree that broken pets are the problem, yet no quarter will be given to address the root cause. It seems as though any other changes are pointless without these being addressed. What am I missing?

Well, all I can suggest is make a thief and learn how to play it… because once I did I realized it can be quite challenging. I’m not the best thief but I know enough to understand them so I can know their limitations and strengths. :shrug: Granted I did this probably a year or so ago and that is when I started building my mesmer for more survivability at the time (I was going condi/toughness build long before it became the thing to do lol).

I think oscuro’s reply is the best one here though. Really all you need to do is learn the way their skills work in order to know how to counter it. And that could be said for pretty much any class you might be having trouble with.

I have multiple thieves, and they are the easiest class to play, hands down. The ability to waltz into a group, off a squishy and get away is hilarious. Watching the enemy flail in the air makes us thieves giggle.

I like how ESO has handled stealth. Everyone can use some version of it, but you are knocked out of stealth with damage, you must use the terrain to make it work, and added hidden last only a second or two to allow pure stealth class to get to a terrain to hide. When you attack you are immediately popped out of stealth and there are strict limitations to re entering stealth. There is no perma stealth nonsense like there is here and it isn’t god mode. Secondly, you cannot easily exit a fight via stealth. I really enjoy it.

Here is what i see from anet.

1. We will not remove or allow options to exclude the pet from ranger game play.

2. We acknowledge that pet F skills are bugged and that pets cannot hit moving targets.

3. Because pet skills are coded with the same coding as mobs, we cannot or will not be able to fix pet skills.

I don’t understand what else needs to be said. Unwillingness to compromise on 1 or 3 maks it impossible for rangers to get brought to the level of other classes. Other games, including upcoming launches, don’t force rangers into pets, but again, Anet needs to be different just to be different. Just as with perma stealth.

lol stealth traps. those are so easy to avoid. My thief is the easiest class I’ve played in any MMO. At least I can admit that it’s completely easy mode. No hard counters to stealth and ability to insta stealth in combat. Lol. Another soon to be released game makes stealth much more challenging.

Lol, and no, thieves haven’t really been nerfed. the only real nerf (4s reveal) was immediately reversed in wvw because my fellow thieves cried so much.

OP – just wait two weeks for a better game then leave the thieves to feed off of each other here.

what im complaining about is the no risk vs reward scenario. thieves have a high risk to run zerk. warriors have none. they can be one of the best rankings in EVERY category all in the same build. now you cant get any class half as good in that sense. hence why most are warriors …..

if they cut the mobility down…. and condi removal down to below thieves’ as that should be their weakness as anet stated….i think warriors would be in a good place.

I don’t think the ability to burst then pop right back I to stealth is a high risk. It s a high reward though.

3-4 seconds is a long time. 2-3 seconds of immob = death for a thief. thats how fragile we are. its 4-5 secs if u are a Carrion thief. high risk. crap condi removal…. crap hp…crap toughness…crap armor…. no blocks/invuln/aegis and stability and protection….anything defensive….or removes stuff like conditison…we suck at. its a high risk profession.

It’s not 3-4 seconds unless you don’t know how to play your thief. It’s definitely NOT a high risk profession unless you go afk, lol.

Not crap armor, not crap hp, not crap toughness unless you spec improperly – just like other classes.

Thieves are easy to kill. Even the ones who falsely believe building toughness helps them.

Hello, I’m just an average GW2 player, been on SoR since day 1 and don’t plan on going anywhere. I consider myself a so-so WvWer, definitely nothing special. During SoR’s time in the top tiers, I got to fight alongside and against some amazing WvWers, I learned a ton and for that I’m really grateful. I got to see some amazing ‘How the kitten did they pull that off?’ maneuvers from many different guilds and commanders.

Sure, there was some friction now and then, misunderstandings and such. But they were usually quickly forgotten when the actual battle started. But things got, I don’t know “weird”, a bit before season 1 started.

I’m only 1 person and this is only 1 incident. It was a Saturday night, things looked hopping . I popped into a borderland and a small group of players was putting together a havoc squad, so I joined up with them. We weren’t all in the same guild, so I guess that means we were the dreaded “pugs”. Our spokesperson asked in map chat, if the commander would like us do anything specific, then asked again. No answer. So off we go.

We slapped a few dolyaks, picked off reinforcements, and took a supply camp. The commander was attacking garrison, we asked in map if they wanted us to join up with them. This time one of the members of the group that was on TS asked there as well. Still no answer. We go ahead and take a 2nd supply camp after they capture garrison and this exchange takes place.
Map: Hey are you guys that took Stargrove a guild group?
Us: No
Map: Are you in TS?
Us: 2 of us are
Map: Could you guys leave this bl so [blank] can get in?
Us: Why?
Map: You’re not following the commander’s orders and we’re trying to win here.

We asked for orders and didn’t get any. So on our own we stopped supply and reinforcements from getting to garrison during the attack and took 1 fully upgraded supply camp. And we weren’t trying to win? My logic circuits fried at that point, so I said goodbye to my group and logged out (for quite some time actually).

Again this is just one incident, and it may have been very isolated. But that’s what I mean when things seemed to get ‘weird’ for me.

Best of luck to all the guilds that have migrated away and I hope you have a blast wherever you land. Because isn’t the point of playing GW2 to have fun?

Think I may have been there. Many of us, including me, spoke up in your defense and told the commander to eff off. That commander never repeated that. also, I’m nearly rank 600, and I’ve seen that behavior twice. the commanders were spoken to.

Many of us won’t fight BG again. The suspicious behaviors got really old . things we never experienced vs other servers. It’s not the blob that annoys us. it’s apparent need to skirt the TOS that does.

This pretty much was the catalyst. More simply the guilds that left were guilds that wanted to win. That is all they cared about in the end is winning. There was no intrest in staying in T2 or dropping to T3 and rebuilding to T2.

So they went back to stacked servers simply to win and play easy mode, it started with JQ before SoR dropped to T2 and then ended with TC. If the guilds that left had one sliver of server pride it was gone and all that was left was the desire to win and super stack and blob more.

To the Guilds that hung in there after everyone left I think those were the only people left with any server pride and care for the community. TW, PD and smaller less know guilds. No one will blame them if they now xfer too. I think they wanted to wait and see what would happen. And now they can’t even play for fights any longer because there is almost no one left to get their backs.

Cry me a river.

If we were interested in winning, we’d have gone to JQ. We choose TC because it was the closest thing to pre-league SoR. Back when it was about server pride and working as one unit, back before TW started running tagless and telling off every player that attempted to follow them.

The attitudes of IRON, TW and FEAR are what crippled this server. Instead of embracing new players that came with the leagues, they told them to go kitten off. If you weren’t super, ultra elite you couldn’t even be on the same map as them or they’d verbally assault you over Teamspeak for hours then ban you when they got bored.

BG’s top guilds embraced their new players, SoR’s top guilds told them to kitten off. That’s why BG won the league and is still around, that’s why SoR is dead and TW/FEAR are sitting on servers with no other guilds or players that want to play with them.

There is nothing accurate about this. someone didn’t get a group in some event on sor so is badmouthing the server, lol.

People are clearly enjoying it for a reason.

The main reason is that it’s easy. It’s not real WvW, where you have to coordinate and work together and use strategy. It’s just yet another “run in a big group and get goodies” event.

Nothing wrong with that per se. EotM was a great idea.

But it should have been rolled out along with changes to fix WvW.

Instead, permanent damage has been done to a major game mode, and all we get from Arenanet on the matter is silence.

lol. still prattling on about eotm not being real wvw. I guess sitting in towers and pv dooring constitutes real wvw? if so, have at it.

sor imploded because people who thought they wanted to play t2 discovered they preferred t1 and because the rest didn’t want to stay on an empty server.

I can regen at 330 hps on my thief in stealth. What is the comparable regen rate for regen rangers. Warriors are much higher – 400 hps I think.

Over 100k healing/minute if they really try. Closer to 50-60k under regular conditions.

This is a game, and death isn’t permanent. There is plenty to be accomplished by an obstinate fight even against superior numbers. That’s what a server with pride and heart works towards, not just giving up because they can’t win easily. Just as there is plenty to be accomplished by an athlete at the Olympics with a world ranking of 20 or something, who knows he has maybe a 1% chance to score a medal.

I’d rather die over and over on an enemy borderland harrassing their keeps and flipping their camps and wasting their yaks, than sit out the fight because “we can’t win”.

Ok. Well losing isnt fun for everyone. I’d rather just go roll groups in Eotm. You can take Wvw, lol. Live and let live. This game is about choices.

PPT is mostly about coverage. If the losing server guilds aren’t playing for fights, they’d just be masochistic in playing PPT knowing they’ll lose.

That’s one way of putting it. Another is that it’s worth fighting for something for reasons beyond just winning.

That’s what I always saw WvW as being about.

In a tennis tournament, the first round will feature unseeded players going up against the best in the world. Why bother, when they know they have no chance to win? And so on.

oh how noble. quite easy when one’s server buys other servers.
