Discussing Mystic Coins

Mystic Coins are also a requirement for basically all of the WvW guild claiming buffs. 780 are needed in total for the Objective Auras like Power, Supply, etc. They must be unlocked linearly and so even though Magic Find, WvW Experience, and Movement Speed are a relatively useless Auras, they have to be unlocked to get the others. Each one needs 100 Mystic Coins.

The +5 Supply Capacity, arguably the most useful Aura, used to be one of the easiest upgrades to unlock under the old system and is now THE LAST upgrade to unlock. So the 780 Mystic Coin number is not avoidable. These buffs are basically mandatory if you want to run an effective WvW guild and, as some of you may know, WvW is not the most profitable game mode, so the Mystic Coins are essentially a time gate on creating a WvW guild. As someone who is currently working on upgrading a WvW-oriented guild, I’m really excited to either shell out a ton of gold on these or to guilt my guild members into donating their Mystic Coins, even though many of them are working on legendaries like Nevermore. Please, kill my enjoyment of my favorite game mode even more Anet.

The main problem with Mystic Coins is that Anet has created a ton of additional sinks for these with HoT (on top of the existing ones), but the only source is still daily logins and the occasional Mystic Forge Daily. Therefore, this creates the perfect opportunity for someone with a lot of gold to come in and buy all of the Mystic Coins on the market and to set whatever price they like and the only options left to the rest of us are:

1) Wait around
2) Farm gold

And both sound like a ton of fun.

Guild upgrades are supposed to be contributed to by all members of a guild, not just one person. If you assume a WvW guild isn’t a 2-3 man guild and has around 50 active players, that’s 15-16 mystic coins per person in the guild. Or 31-32 if only half of the guild contributes. Which isn’t very long to get on an individual basis.

If you can’t get your guild to contribute items to help, then that’s a guild problem. Not a problem with the mystic coin supply.

For orbs, someone posted a suggestion using all of those HoT components that are sitting near vendor value as part of a recipe to craft a new orb that could be used as a substitute. It’ll raise the value of those items, maintain the existing cost to craft ingots, and provide a path to farm the materials by playing in HoT.

As far as mystic coins, I can’t think of a good solution. With how so many recipes use them, there does need to be an additional way to earn them to compensate. Perhaps letting players buy them with laurels and/or commendations.

You buy them from players who sell the ones they don’t use. And there are likely players sitting on stacks of them waiting for the price to go up on them.

I wouldn’t be opposed to a few one off events like branded event that happed during one of the beta events. Advertised ahead of time and on a mid-level zone that does not have a scheduled world boss. Gives a notice when you enter the zone during the event.

As long as the occurrence wasn’t just a one day only event and periodically occurred, I don’t think anyone would mind.

Why is this game called GUILD WARS 2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Seera.5916

That’s why you should research stuff before you buy it.

Anyway, the name “Guild Wars” originated from an event called “guild wars” that happened in Tyria (the game’s world) a long, long time akitten

ay so do you think that it’s the new player’s responsibility to look this up or the game developer? I mean when i first heard of the game i thought of actual guild wars, not some martin-esque power struggle that isn’t even mentioned at all in any point of the game.
Is the title of the game misleading? a bit
does that matter? not really sure.
would the game do a bit better if it had actual guild wars instead of just implying with its name that it does? a bit.

At the end of the day, it’s on the person on whether or not a game is worth buying or not. Which includes things like what the game actually covers. Granted, this can be a leap of faith at launch, but this far out it is not hard to find information on exactly what this game is and what it is not.

All a game developer can do is try to convince people that it is. All game developers would love if they were the ones who decided if a game was worth buying or not. Because then everyone would buy every game released because the developer will obviously think their game is worth buying.

all those resources around the world and yet [people] buy the mats instead. for small quantity needs I can see it, but why are you buying mass quantities needed for the leveling process. You’ll cut your cost in half if you just take the time to gather.

Different people value their time differently. Some players would rather pay others to gather their mats for them. Either because their time is limited and they’d rather do something they enjoy than gather mats to make something to do something that they enjoy or because they don’t find going out and gathering mats to be all that fun. And to me, a game is supposed to primarily be fun. If it isn’t fun, it’s not for you.

Some players aren’t in any rush to make something so they don’t mind gathering their own mats.

Don’t impose your own value of time onto others.

“The overall design for Guild Wars 2 does not support fully open world PvP and it would take a prohibitive amount of work to even make it possible…..”

Funny he should say that, because they managed to do it by accident in the Silverwastes.

Not quite, they made you, and you only hostile to everyone else. If it where to happen to someone else at the same time you would not be hostile to each other, but only to everyone else. It was explained by a dev that it was working the same way as WvW. You where just joining another team so to speak.

So no, they didn’t do it by accident. It was just a bug that made the one player on the map enter a WvW type side. Also as I already said, mega servers make this impossible as there are no different world servers out side of WvW. People really need to read the whole thread before posting.

And bugs are accidents. They accidentally put in code that allowed for PvP in Silverwastes.

We don’t play WvW for rewards. Ask any who plays WvW for hours per day.

So you’ve polled every single WvW players out there?!

Never said it would be a majority who would ask and get it changed. And you can’t say that if there was a drawdown difference between the modes that even players not playing for the reward wouldn’t do an analysis to see what the risk vs reward would be.

If you submitted a bug report in game, you do not get a response at all.

If you submitted 2 tickets from the website, you will need to close the latest one and wait for a response from support. If it’s been 3 days since you’ve heard anything, you can post in the tickets for review sticky in this thread.

If you have not submitted a ticket from the website, you will need to do that. Access to that ticket form is through the Support link at the top of the page.

Fixing Gw2

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

I’ve played this game for 3 years everyday. This expansion there is a few issues that still need fixed. In the new wvw maps they are way too huge and it is a pain to get from point a to point b with the terrain and twists and turns and it makes everyone want to stay on the eternal borderlands because the new maps are way too big and the terrain a bit of a pain. Just make the maps a bit less huge and make the terrain less of a pain. In pvp it is a bit more balanced but a few things still need tweaked, talk to some good legendary pvper’s for info on balancing. PVE content, the best thing I ever participated in was the battle for lion’s arch. That was a crap ton of fun, make more stuff like that please. Condi build also still overpowered too. LAST thing making coin is not as fun and a bit more hard. You can’t make gold ever really from wvw, the drops blow, When you nerfed dungeons without coin from that people don’t play it. Make the game more rewarding, balanced, and navigatable. One more thing, in wvw, if you have a lot of people on a map from 1 server and the other server isn’t on, I think the bosses in keeps should get buffed to stop the karma training.

I love the new WVW desert BL maps. Yea it seems like they were originally designed for gliding, then something went wrong and they decided not to allow it which makes no sense, as you can design anything, or invisi walls around keeps or other methods to keep gliding over keep walls easily out of the game, but w/e.

I think they are great fun ROAMING maps mostly cause no one uses them. but which if zergs did uses them make them even bigger! It does seem to funnel people a bit more and I understand the thinking there’d be huge zergs so it should be more fun / more combat. But i guess if wvw’ers are big whiners then that won’t happen much.

They nerfed dungeon to make people play pve content. But i assume they we’ll be redoing them in the future.

They explicitly stated the gold nerf from dungeons was to explicitly disincentivize players from doing dungeons. Considering how slowly they work on bringing updates to the current small group content (fractals), I wouldn’t hold your breath on updates to dungeons. Plus, if I was planning on revamping something, I wouldn’t drive the players who play that content away from the game possibly by destroying the game mode’s rewards to a degree that most players stop playing them. I’d be hyping the content or leaving hints that a rework is coming and leaving rewards as they stood.

Edit to add: And to me, what they did was the coward’s way out. Yes, dungeons had their problems. But instead of actually trying to fix them into something a good number of players enjoyed, they decided to basically just give up on dungeons.

Dungeons could have a great mid-time length content between fractals and raids. But now it’s just for new players or AP hunters. The veterans have run the dungeons hundreds of times. The fun that comes from the dungeon itself has long since gone away. And by new player and veteran I mean to dungeons, not necessarily to the game.

Troll Merchants

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Seera.5916

As far as reporting them goes…. where in tos does it say someone can’t use a merchant, or guild banner, or anything else in spots that annoy you? how would this be a report-able offense?? Just do like everyone else and don’t feed the trolls.

It’s in the TOS to not harrass or grief players. ANet would still be writing the TOS if they had to write down every single possible variant.

Players who spawn them on the chests or what not with the intent of being malicious are reportable if you find out who did it.

But it could be the player looted the chest and then spawned a merchant without realizing that it could go right on top of the chest. Or a Box of Fun, or other such item that would be useful AFTER the fight.

So don’t assume that all merchants on chests are out of spite, could just be a player who didn’t stop to think about what would happen.

Now the players who drop the feasts on the chest after the fight is over, yea, those are very likely griefers. But it could also be someone who had a loot bag next to a feast and tried to open it, but then realized they double clicked their feast they were saving to deploy at Teq.

Mastery Point Refund Option

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Seera.5916

Seera.5916

Mastery points should never have been a thing in the first place. ANet pulled the trick of hiding progression behind specific content with traits 1.5. I’m seeing some of the same people who complained about this approach with traits supporting it with masteries. Apparently it’s OK if it’s account progression rather than character progression. To me, it’s a bigger steaming pile because a lot of the points are behind things like mini-games, silly achievements in story missions or lengthy/expensive collections.

Oh, someone sees the light… I’m impressed. Now come, let us go and complete all 8 pointless dungeons together with our empty LFG system. Nothing like duets?

I should have done Honor of the Waves when I had the chance.

I’d imagine there’s:

1. A subset who hate the way Masteries are earned and hated traits 1.5.

2. And a subset who hate the way Masteries are earned but liked traits 1.5.

3. And a subset who like the way Masteries are earned but hated traits 1.5.

4. And a subset who like the way Masteries are earned and liked traits 1.5.

Subset 2’s probably got the least number of players. These are the players who prefer character progression over anything else, even if they have a ton of alts.

Subsets 1 and 4 are likely the ones with the highest players. I had noticed the main reasons for hating both were the fact that it was gated behind content, esp content that was hard to trigger either due to needing an event to fail to trigger the necessary event or the event itself had to fail; or in the case of traits 1.5, was oddly set up (adept level traits needing map completion of a level 60+ map).

Subset 3 probably has more than Subset 2, but has less than Subsets 1 and 4. They’re the players that want progression, but don’t necessarily want to have to do the same very narrow thing over and over again on every character. That’s why they like the account bound masteries, but hate the character bound traits 1.5.

Avira Antivirus preventing game launch?

The person who gives you the link isn’t the one responsible for you getting a virus. If you are not sure if the link is going to a place that won’t give you a virus, then it is on you to research the site to make sure it’s virus free. Not the person who gave you the link.

Also, go out and buy an anti-virus program. Because with very very very very few exceptions if any, in the world of antivirus programs, you get what you pay for. Then install it. Then you can in more safety google the ways to get Avira completely off your system.

If you want a free program to make sure you haven’t picked up a virus after going to a site and your antivirus program doesn’t pick it up, download Malwarebytes. The free version will only run when you tell it to run so unless you’re either very safe with your internet browsing or can religiously make sure you scan every week or so, then it’s not the best antivirus for your primary one. But sometimes antivirus will miss a virus so having one that will only run when you tell it to, will help keep your computer safe (when you think you may have found a shady website or gotten a virus).

tl;dr: The ultimate responsibility for ensuring that you do not go to a site with a virus is on you, not the person who refers you to the site.

i only asked for a link and obviously its my own responsibility, however this is a public forum and there are rules within.

Yes, there are rules, but that doesn’t mean you can blame someone else for getting a virus when the responsibility is your own.

I understanding asking for a link given your recent brush with a virus, but saying that you want a link so you can blame them if you get a virus? That’s not right, imo.

[Suggestion] WvW play difficulty level

in WvW

Posted by: Seera.5916

Seera.5916

They do that here’s what happens:

1. Players demand more reward for playing on “very hard” than on “Easy”.
2. ANet gives them a little more reward. Not enough to satisfy them, but enough so that the “Easy” players don’t moan that they feel forced to play on “very hard” to keep up.
3. Players don’t feel the risk is worth the reward so everyone plays on “Easy” and we’re back to where we are now with the more experienced players always winning against less experienced players. Except now, it’s even more likely the experienced player will win as he now has more room for mistakes than he did before.

Go to your profession’s WvW board and post your build and how you play it and ask the players there what can you do differently to let you have a better chance at winning more often.

Character Name Changed?!

Seera.5916

Here’s the thing, I’ve never heard of them changing a character name without contacting the player first. Usually you login and you won’t be able to select the character without changing the name first. Now Display Names, they don’t have a problem anagramming them into something else but character names, no, never heard that happening before.

So either someone on staff when well beyond SOP and changed it on their own or someone who have access to your system and account, which is easy if you have remember account name and password checked, saw the name change request and did it without your knowledge. You have a prankish roommate, little sibling or disgruntled SO?

Because there is two issues here. First your original name being in violation somehow and second how it got changed without you even hearing about needing to change it. And again you need to submit a ticket because it’s very rare that the powers that be will pop in on a thread like this without a ticket even being made.

I would imagine if a player had a long history of choosing inappropriate names, they would get their characters renamed for them as they’ve shown they can’t be trusted. So that they have to pay to change the character to another name, be it inappropriate or not.

This entire thread is silly. Warduke needs to contact support as suggested and see where that goes. It’s pointless to debate the issue because ANet makes the rules and chooses how they get applied, and some of that may be subjective with different results depending on who handles it. So work the system. Then maybe get back to us with the hows and whys.

You mean “ANet makes up the rules and chooses to whom they get applied” and “So the system doesn’t work.”

This thread proves that somebody at Anet is abusing their powers – changing my name but not banning the previous name – and you really can’t deny that, whether you consider the name to be offensive or not.

Without posting this thread I wouldn’t have known that the name hadn’t been banned, so I’m glad I did.

But it doesn’t get to the bottom of the issue as to why? If you don’t call it to their attention through official channels, the forum isn’t the place for these discussions, then if someone did overstep they will know someone on their staff overstepped. It’s also possible that whoever changed your name forgot to put it on the lockout list. You won’t know until you ask.

Trying to drum up ire on the forums is really a waste of time. 9 times out of 10 when someone protests this much they aren’t telling the full story and ANet will trot out the dirty laundry as they did with Suck at Love’s ban or the good old days of renames when the game launched on reddit. Your seeming hesitation to put in a ticket first before going to the masses to cry foul is making you not look like an innocent victim here.

What you really mean is “9 times out of 10 the community turns on the victim no matter what, because they want to believe in the myth of a just and fair authority figure”. There’s been other cases of names being stolen in a similar manner:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3wsxb7/character_name_banned_now_picked_up_by_someone/

It’s worth noting that, in that thread, an Anet GM also states:

“In the past; our team was very strict about what we’d allow. As an example we’d censored Girthquake Clamhammer. I love that name; personally. Funny as hell.
Poopy Cat Butt? Censored – too filthy. I Eat Farts? Eww, no.
Now? We’ll allow those. Did I mention funny as hell?
As my boss put it once -
“If dude wants to be known as cat poop that’s his problem; not mine”.
And that’s our philosophy now. This change has been evolving over the past few months as we get feedback on what the community does/doesn’t want to see in game. Essentially; if your name doesn’t express hate and doesn’t violate our game-rating we’re probably gonna let it live on. This includes deity names. Going forward you’re probably going to see Jesus Christ, God, and Allah running around Tyria."

So, again, I’m wondering why my name was changed.

And the ONLY way you’ll know that is if you submit a ticket with support and take it up with them. We on the forums can only GUESS as to why. A lot of stalking cases in real life do end up with violent ends, so maybe the moderator handling the report of your name was someone who took the guidelines more literally than what is intended. And maybe that moderator was new and made an honest mistake.

Again, posting on the forums won’t get the reason why for you. Only making a ticket with support will.

Mistakenly banning someone’s name is one thing, but my name was CHANGED, remember, to a completely different name in a clear case of trolling by the GM in question.

Not only that, but now that I know the name I had wasn’t actually banned and is still available, I’m wondering how anyone could think that’s a mistake. This isn’t just someone being overzealous.

Because places get busy and interruptions happen and the moderator simply forgot that they hadn’t done the final step for the report. It could be a new employee who forgot to add the name to the list due to being new.

And no, it’s not a clear case. I don’t know how many times you’ve had your name reported as violating the TOS. And I don’t trust anyone who says how many times they have or have not been punished by moderators. People lie. Say they have been punished to drum up support or say they weren’t punished to make ANet look bad. But I know if I had someone who has repeatedly shown that they like to choose inappropriate names, that they won’t get to rename their inappropriately named characters for free. They’ll have to by name change contracts to change the name I decide is more appropriate because the character can’t remain with the illegal name and it’s less punishment than having the character deleted.

Guild name changes cause technical problems?

ANet doesn’t want guilds to be able to change name and wipe the slate clean when it comes to reputation.

Not to mention it’s another area of guild politics that would cause problems for support. “A majority of our guild voted for Name A, but the guild leader put in Name B.”

I find Bloody Stalker and Crazy Stalker, Kill Stalker a lot worse than Personal Stalker. All those others are taken by the way. Yeah best option is support ticket.

They could be taken by players that have been banned for one too many inappropriate names. Or players who’ve decided to quit the game over the fact that they got forced to make a name change.

Or people assume that someone else already reported them and don’t report them.

Character Name Changed?!

Seera.5916

And if you’ve had a number of name changes forced upon you, I believe ANet eventually takes away the free name change if your name is reported option and just changes the name (because if you’ve been reported too many times for inappropriate names, then they assume that you’ll just rename it to something inappropriate).

I can see why someone would report the name. Stalkers in real life are horrible and the name may have been flagged because of the reference that could be inferred from that (regardless of whether or not you intended that reference or not).

If this is the first time you’ve had an inappropriate name (whether actually one or not is irrelevant), then I would ask for a free name contract as others have had the chance to change the name to something of their own choice. If you’ve had this happen more than a few times, maybe you should stop and think about any possible inappropriate connotations your names may have for future characters.

As I stated in the original post, there’s plenty of other players with variations of “stalker” in their names, as well as gear called Stalker gear.

The reality of the world is you can’t tiptoe around all the time in case you offend someone. Of course, if Anet was just very strict and clamped down on any name that anybody in the world found offensive, that’s one thing – but they don’t, as myself and others have reported genuinely offensive (racist, homophobic etc.) names and yet we still see them in the game every day.

I personally wouldn’t have reported it. But I could see why someone would. Maybe that someone had had a stalker in the past.

And just because other names are still in the game that you find are offensive, doesn’t mean you can have a name ANet finds offensive. When you see those with Stalker in their name, report them. And I only said the connotation due to the two words in the name, not just one half of the name.

And it could be Player A had offensive name 1, then got told to change. Then Player B names their character offensive name 1 since the name is now free.

You’re missing the point. I don’t find “stalker” offensive. If Anet finds “stalker” offensive, they should block every single name with “stalker” in the name, then change the name of their “stalker” armor.

What’s happened here is an abuse of power.

ANet may not find “stalker” offensive. They appear to find “Personal Stalker” offensive. Because that’s the name you chose. Not whether half of your name is offensive or not. It’s whether the entire name is offensive or not. You may appeal that ruling by talking with support. You have a good case, in my opinion, so I would go get specific item and NPC foes names (there are some foes with Stalker in the name) and ask support why they can name things referencing stalkers and you can’t.

And if they don’t reverse the ruling and this is your first offense for inappropriate names, I would ask why you weren’t given the chance to rename your character when others had been given that option.

Then Player B names their character offensive name 1 since the name is now free.

simple rule :

old legendaries -> buy precursor. some cost more to craft than buying direct from TP.

new legendaries -> no option, craft them.

That simple rule only applies if you want it the cheapest, most efficient way possible. Which not everyone does.

If you care more about the journey to the legendary than the legendary itself, then craft it.

If you’re using the legendary as a long term goal since you need one when playing games with open ended play, craft it.

I’m a combination of the journey and long term goal player. I’m crafting my precursor and collecting the mats. But that’s because that’s the best option for me. I fully get and understand that that’s not the best option for others.

But your rule isn’t so simple. It’s dependent on the reason for the legendary and how a player wants to go about obtaining it.

You have a 3rd choice: continue the ticket discussion in there. Because that’s the only way your problem will be solved.

I’ve changed my email on my account (I got angry at the original provider of my email and decided that anything important should be switched off of it). They did it right. And for all you know you’re email was spelling1@domain.com, but they put in speling1@domain.com.

Remember that those in support are human and no matter what precautions are taken, there will always be errors.

If they are refusing to help you for whatever reason, you can post your ticket number in the Account and Security section of the forum in the sticky thread called Tickets for Review.

The Quest for Clovers

If you do it before you get your T6 mats or other items that require gold, doing the 10 method probably isn’t too horrible. You’ll get useful mats back. Either to turn to gold to turn to the appropriate mats, or you’ll get mats you need.

If you’re down to just the clovers, you may want to do the 1 clover per or look at the other means to get clovers. There’s the once a month Legendary chest that will give 7 clovers, so you’ll get enough clovers in 11 months. Then there are also PvP tracks that award clovers.

Once you get to 70 clovers, if you don’t want any clovers left over and are using the 10 clover recipe, switch to the 1 clover recipe. Or choose the Legendary chest option once at the end of your log in reward month cycle.

If you don’t want to unlock lots of waypoints for all characters, go play sPvP and WvW.

The game is quite small. It’s not that hard to unlock waypoints when you’re not with your guild. There are only so many guild missions in so many locations. In only takes a few key waypoints to be able to get where you need to if you’re trying new content for the first time.

I’ve got 22 alts and I still don’t think unlocking all waypoints would be something meaningful to add to the game.

You really want a bunch of lowbies scrambling around in all the high level areas they suddenly have access to?

I’ll bring my level 15 with it’s bags full of frosty picks into Orr and chase down those orichalcum nodes begging for a res all the ways along.

That’s why we’re suggesting you exchange a gift of exploration for it. Anyone who has done exploration before, knows what zones are what levels and accepts the risk. They do not get a guarantee of a res if they go into an area too high a level for their character.

Moving 'compact' option

Wow. That was super interesting to read! Never would have known. It irks me a little that they’re so willing to make a change based on one twitch streamers issue (when there are a lot of other issues brought up in the forums or written about in detail elsewhere on the internet that are ignored and shouldn’t be). But really interesting nonetheless! I’m glad they didn’t just outright change it, would have been frustrating not having compact so close to deposit for me xD.

I never understood people argue this way. I mean how are anything going to change? What you feel is important others don’t. So if they fix something that you want, then that is the right thing? What about the people that don’t care at all about what you feel is important? Does it mean they fixed the wrong things? What would be the most important then and who decide?

Isn’t the most important thing that they DO change stuff? It might not be your thing, but it is a thing they change, which they should have credit for.

That’s not at all what I’m saying. I agree that just because the change isn’t important or doesn’t impact me doesn’t mean it shouldn’t still be changed, and I’ve said as much. Perhaps if you read my post earlier in the thread you would have a complete understanding of what I was saying?

What I was pointing out in that post is that I take issue with Arenanet making a change based purely on the happenings/rantings of a twitch streamer. People are continually bringing up issues and quality of life changes that would help the game, so it seems really strange to me that in a sea of really great suggestions one of the few that gets attention and action is because of a single player?

Obviously it is important for Arenanet to listen to their players and make changes based on feedback. The fact that they made this particular change in such an unobtrusive way is great! I absolutely support they way they did that. It just makes me wary when the only people who seem to have voices are the ones who aren’t actually representing the majority of the playerbase.

Players had been posting the issue before. Sometimes seeing the immediate initial reaction can show the issue in a different light. They saw that the player had to then stop and reorganize their bag before they got more loot which only complicate matters.

They made it an optional move because they realize that some people actually liked that the buttons were right next to each other.

World boss upgrades!

I’m generally okay with where FE and Wurm are at right now. I think Jungle Wurm in particular has a good balance of pre-events, fight time, and fight mechanics. (It’s still easy, but it’s a boss in a starter zone that gets piled on by 80s.)

Behemoth takes longer, but that’s less to do with its health and more to do with the portal mechanic that makes it invulnerable. The fight takes longer, but I can’t say I love it. The spawns scale up to being almost unkillable, so there’s not a lot to do if you hand around the portals, and it’s not a lot of fun to run out to portals, run back to head, run out to portals, repeat.

Fire Elemental could use some rework. It’s a 10-15 minute pre-event with no real way to speed it up really, and then dead in a minute. To me, pre-events shouldn’t be 10-15 times longer to complete than the main event; especially when that main event is a world boss that’s on a timer.

I’m not saying it needs to be made as hard as Teq or Triple Trouble. But it could be made to be more like the Great Jungle Wurm in Caledon. It’s pre’s go quickly and then you kill it, with some time to even die and WP back if you happen to die early enough.

You have no idea how much XP you would lose for doing that.

A level 80 character doesnt get exp anyways. Especially if they’ve already cleared all tyria masteries.

But it would be something to factor into whether or not to use such an item if you had not cleared all of the Tyria masteries.

Eh… hardly. You can get more experience off moas while running boosters than from map exploration.

It’s still something to consider based on the activities that a player likes to do. For you, it’s hardly worth it. For me it is worth it. Neither of us are wrong.

Since it was mentioned, where should I start a comment like this in the future ? I often feel the desire to make a comment that I hope the devs will ‘consider’.

BTW, if you read it, I think there is no way to misinterpret that any player based comments are meaningless (unless you’re somehow in-charge of production).

@Seera, you remind me of an uninformed mom blindly defending Johnny for misbehaving. (even though he was guilty). Your comment was a rant, pure and simple – just like my second half of this post.

While I do feel your pain, the problem with patch times with a game played all over the world is no matter what time they do it someone will not be happy. What may be a good time for you would be a bad time fore someone else.
As to where to post a suggestion, usually it’s under the forum for that part of the game. WvW suggestions under the WvW forum, HoT under the HoT forum, etc. For this suggestion, I would have thought general chat would have been fine, not really sure why it was moved here.
As to other players responding, it’s a player driven forum. If you post anything, you can expect other players to respond and give feedback and for suggestions, the devs would probably prefer to have more feedback from other players to see how everyone else feels about the suggestion.

They probably saw the title and the word patch and assumed it was an issue with the patch. Not feedback on the timing of patches.

If you didn’t want people to respond to it, you shouldn’t have made the thread.

My feedback on when patches should or should not be released is just as important as yours. And I view my feedback on it as important.

You feel they shouldn’t come during US prime time, I feel they should come when they are ready and when they will be best able to troubleshoot any errors.

Neither of our opinions are wrong, there’s pros to your time table and cons. Just like there is to mine. I just view the cons of your time table to outweigh the pros, but the pros of mine to outweigh the cons. You feel the opposite. And that’s just fine. It’s up to ANet to decide which time table for patch release is best based on feedback from players.

I count just as much as you count. So if you’re saying I don’t count, then you don’t count either. But I doubt you really meant that. So we both count.

Noone is making themselves elite.
The fact that the OP has to learn new stuff makes him a newcomer, someone’s lack of ability does not make others elite. You should acknowledge your faults and improve upon them instead of whining in the forums and blaming the game.

Blude said feel elite. There’s a difference between feeling elite and being elite. Zeonis’s reply to the OP could be taken as Zeonis wanting to feel elite in knowing that they are better at the game than someone else just because the OP can’t easily navigate the map.

Whether Zeonis meant.to come across that way, I do not know, but that’s why word choice and phrasing are important. Especially on the internet where tone is lost.

They should release the patches when they are ready. Not a moment sooner and not a moment later.

Not sooner because sometimes glitches get discovered that they need to remove and we don’t want them rushing to meet a deadline and miss discovering a glitch.

Not later because there are always glitches that get missed during QA and this gives the bug team more time to figure out what’s causing the glitch and fix it.

And they try to release the big, new content, balancing, etc patches early in the day around 9 am PST and the bug fixing patches at the end of the day around 5 pm PST. Big, new content, balancing, etc patches so that the bugs can be found and patched that day and not have to wait overnight, when some of those bugs could quite possibly be the ones that crash servers, which a lot of this type of patch tend to do. Just look at the patch notes.

Bug fixing patches come at the end of the day, except when server stability is in question, to reduce the number of times that players have to restart the client to download a new build.

Guild missions aren’t on every map. It shouldn’t be too hard to get the relevant WP’s for guild missions on each character without having to do 100% map completion or getting every WP.

So I don’t think there is a need for a short cut. Not when that short cut adds a lot more work as ANet would have to decide what rewards you are then eligible for when it comes to map completion and how to calculate it if they decide you are not eligible for 100% of the rewards.

I’d rather they release patches when they are ready like they’ve been doing than try to rush to meet a deadline if things are going slower than expected or lose valuable bug fixing time if the patch breaks something they didn’t catch in internal QA because they had to sit on the patch because things went quicker than expected.

1. They have issues with people crashing out and lagging out of maps due to over clutter on the screen. I’d rather they cull minis than reduce skill effects more than they already have. I’d like them to reappear automatically once the environment goes below the threshold again.

3. I agree on this.

And I also agree with Linken. I want to be able to mute other players’ minis. Some of them hit the right point for it to be headache inducing for me.

PvE’ers complained that they had to go to WvW for map completion, so loud and so often, that Anet caved. Where’s the love for us WvW players who don’t want to PvE to unlock our elite specs with our Proof of Heroics?

And don’t give me that “play your toon to unlock it” junk. Did you do all the hearts in all the zones to level up your Revenant, or did you use Tomes of Knowledge? Same thing.

I think the main reason why they removed it was because they swapped out the WvW borderland maps and didn’t want to have to figure out a X or Y map in the calculations on whether they’ve fully completed the map. Especially if they aren’t going to regularly rotate any time in the near future.

Glass cannon strategy: exploit?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Seera.5916

It happens when the players in tanky gear die as well. The scaling happens based on number of active participants without regard for what gear the participants are wearing. The bosses do not scale one way for one gear type and another way for another gear type.

Since it happens the same based on all gear types, one gear type wearing set of players are not exploiting the game by waypoint out when they die.

That’s a good argument. But, in theory, the one with more protection should do better at surviving than the glass cannon, in a group.

Still, I’ll give you that point. It’s a good one. (Several others have stated it earlier; I’ve only given it serious thought recently, though, so that’s why I didn’t give credit earlier.)

Some attacks will kill anyone if they don’t dodge it regardless of what they wear (it’s why so many metas use glass cannon. If you’re good enough that you don’t make mistakes often, then there’s no real benefit to taking more defensive stats.

Inquest Golem Mark II’s electric shock attack will kill players who aren’t playing attention to where they’re standing and it goes off and it’s too dangerous for others to go in to get them back up.

Can I at least know what fight people are talking about. I haven’t play for a while, did anet add some thing.

What is this strategy people are talking about.

It’s the meta build, mostly berserker, but also assassin and a couple of others. The strategy is to expect quicker kills.

My argument is only dealing with large battles or boss battles (PvE). If a glass cannon happens to die, WPing out drops the bosses hit points (at least that’s what people say it does — I’m granting it for argument’s sake, even though I remain to be convinced myself).

I’ve actually seen it happen, but not with a boss battle, and not with WPing. The kid who collects armor for his army right next to the Frozen Maw takes forever to have his event complete while the battle continues. You can turn in dozens and barely move the bar. But, once people start leaving the map after it’s done, he’ll occasionally go from halfway to full with just one piece of armor.

It’s not the same thing, and I’m not sure even the loudest “fully dead WP out” proponent would say it works to that degree. But, to a degree, it has to, because it’s the same root mechanism (scaling).
