Glass cannon strategy: exploit?

Glass cannons work – is that your real problem here? They work if you’re skilled. If not they don’t.

No. It’s that they work better than other gear choices, IF many people make the same choice, and IF they plan on WPing out if they happen to die.

Please name one world boss or group event where the waypoint is within the distance it would take for players to get back to the enemy before they would reset.

If death-rushing was a better strategy than keeping oneself alive, then more people would intentionally die to death-rushing.

If it’s not an exploiting for a bad tanky build player to death-rush, then it isn’t for a glass-cannon build.

this was put in because of the new healer classes. I myself run a Druid, and with my full druid setup, don’t do a lot of dmg, I try to keep ppl alive, either with heals or rez’s.
so they added the rewards for these classes so we still get credit

It doesn’t matter WHY it was put it. The point is that it favors reviving people. Before they did this, except in specialized content (like the raids and certain bosses), practically everybody runs some variant of a glass cannon.

Look at the threads on the classes where people ask what kind of build is good. Without exception, berserker is near the head of the pack – for all professions. Why? Because glass cannons WORK. And that’s my point.

And why is that a problem?

Did you miss the players who posted threads asking for ANet to put in event credit support for players who heal or revive or give out boons or remove conditions or otherwise participate in some quantifiable way but aren’t attacking the boss directly? That were posted prior to HoT’s launch and prior to HoT even being announced?

ANet finally figured out how to do so and so did so.

That does not suddenly make WP’ing out when you die and run back to a group event/boss an exploit.

3. Prior to this patch, reviving someone did not count one bit towards participation and if the fight is quick enough stopping to revive someone could cost them participation, especially if the person who stops to revive the player arrived late or doesn’t do as much damage as the others around them. This isn’t as big of an issue now that they do allow for support to count toward participation.

Yes, and that’s exactly why I put forth the question.

So because ANet didn’t give credit to reviving people for event participation, asking people to waypoint out instead of waiting for someone to revive them is an exploit……

1 person dies – and waypoints out – boss scales for 9 people.
The dead person comes back and resumes the fight – boss scales for 10 people again.

But, if 5 people die and WP out, they’ve done enough damage already that the boss dies quickly with the 5 remaining. THAT is the exploit. I’ve seen it happen more than once.

That’s not an exploit.

That’s likely 5 people who didn’t read the boss’ tell in time to dodge out of the way and died when the boss was very low in health.

Or maybe a few of those 5 who died were bad players who were pushing and pulling the enemy away and out of AoE attacks of the other players and with those bad players gone, the actual DPS went up and they were able to kill it quickly.

Double click on that and the game will launch. Minimize the game (windows key or ctrl + esc will do it) and you can repin the game to your task bar. You may even be able to right click on the exe file and pin it to the taskbar.

I won’t treat you like an idiot, but I will agree with the people who say this is clearly not an exploit. It’s playing as the game was designed – it’s been this way since the beginning, and if it was not acceptable to the developers, something would have been done by now to prevent the behavior (such as preventing waypointing to nearby waypoints, for example).

Thank you.

But, they did. See my post above on the most recent balance update (giving credit for reviving people), plus another person’s post on ANet’s fix in dungeons (which prevents waypointing in combat).

Most recent. It takes time for information to spread, who knows how many who are saying “WP and run back” have actually read the patch notes and know that reviving someone counts now. Not to mention by now it’s probably a habit for someone to say WP and run back when someone asks for a res mid boss battle. And habits can take a while to break.

Dungeons and open world have different purposes in the game.

Open world is supposed to be a more laid back easy situation where you don’t feel punished for someone else approaching. Not being able to waypoint out if you die is punishing players if someone else approaches. Because you can’t choose to do the world boss alone and keep others from participating.

Dungeons are supposed to be group content that is more challenging than open world. The change to being able to waypoint out of a fight while in dungeons was to keep that difficulty up.

Did you just ask us not to argue with your premise? xD

You’ll need to explain how respawning and moving to where you died is an exploit a bit more..

Most people using high damage setups don’t use this “strategy,” for 1 it would require the mob to be near a WP, have a long duration Condition on it or be being attacked by multiple people. Also its just really inefficient.

I see it all the time. In almost every large battle, there’s always a few people saying, “fully dead: waypoint!”, frequently in all capital letters.

They do this because the claim is that the dead person counts against the scaling, but as soon as the dead person WPs out, the creature scales down to the now-smaller number of characters. IF they are correct, then we’re in what I call an exploit.

The scaling doesn’t happen the instant someone dies or comes into battle. It happens every X seconds.

So at Time 0:00 boss spawns Where time is in Minutes:Seconds

Time 0:30 Scaling check happens, no net change in population, no scaling
Time 0:31 Player A Dies (big boss attack that one shots players who aren’t paying attention)
Time 0:315 Player A asks for a res
Time 0:32 Players B and C tell him to waypoint
Time: 0:34 Player A WP’s out (took him a second or two to find the nearest WP on the map)
Time 0:35 Scaling check happens, lower population, population scales down).

So just because the scalling happened right after Player A WP’ed out, doesn’t mean it scaled just because he just WP’ed out. The game finally did a population check for how many are still actively participating in the event.

People ask for players to WP and run back because:

1. The player is in a dangerous spot and would likely get anyone who tried to res him killed.
2. You’re a sitting duck when you’re reviving someone. You can’t dodge, you can’t reapply stealth or wall of reflection or whatever skill you use to negate damage.

Not everyone has the same judgement on what is worth the money asked for something and what is not worth the money. Don’t force others to use your judgement on the matter.

People will pay upwards of $100 on a pair of jeans. Unless those jeans will wash themselves, never ever ever fade no matter how or what I wash them with, and will repair tears on their own, I don’t think any pair of jeans is worth $100. Yet, obviously other people do. I have no problem with people who spend $100 on jeans. It’s their money.

For me, the expansion was worth my money. I’ve gotten several hours of enjoyment out of it and that’s how I view worth in games. If I can get 1 hour of fun for every $1 I spend, it’s worth it. But others don’t base their judgement on whether a game is worth it on hours of fun. Some base it on quantifiable additions to the game. And HoT is low on quantifiable additions to the game, since a lot of stuff is not expansion exclusive. So it may not be worth it for them to buy HoT.

tl;dr: Not everyone shares your judgement on whether or not something is worth it and you shouldn’t force others to use your judgement.

And how do you know they aren’t trying to find a fix that will work but the fix isn’t as easy as you think it is?

What if they’ve found possible fixes but in their testing of it, it breaks other things or has unintended negative side effects?

And the have multiple teams of people. Everyone at ANet doesn’t focus on one thing. They can have a team reworking world bosses and a team working on trying to figure out the mega-server issue on HoT maps.

And by the way, the devs who would have your answers are not the moderators of this forum. There are rules on forums if your frustration causes you to break a rule, you should get infracted for it. Because there should be no exceptions to the rules. No one should get an exception to a rule because they’re posting what they feel is constructive criticism.

If you feel you were unjustly infracted, you can appeal the infraction and possibly get it overturned. But I would be polite yet firm in your appeal.

You Can't Keep Forcing 1 Hour Restarts!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Seera.5916

Seera.5916

But why force players to restart when its not needed unless they need to get the update to fix their immediate needs?

During the restart window, the number of map instances basically doubles. They likely want to minimize that stress. They should however increase the window for HoT maps based on the meta cycle, but only if the map is and stays populated.

see, there are ways to handle these update+restarts that they are not taking into consideration.

I do like the idea of forcing restarts on HOT based maps longer then 1 hour though. While I have not been hit with the restart during a meta, I sure as hell wouldn’t want to log back in if i were.

It is possible to make the restart times longer than 1 hour. I was in a story instance and got told that I had 3 hours before my game would restart. My story level was not Arah.

This is probably the best option. To make the HoT maps have a longer time before they force a restart, but doesn’t give exploiters unlimited time to exploit.

LOl @ Donari:

Seriously, learn to where you have to make a draw line …
Do yiu seriously also want to sue now every single person in the world, that shares with you the name too and say them they stole your name too?

This is ridiculous. Nobody has the right to claim names, as if they belong only to them, be it in real life, or be it a a freaking game.
We are only in this situation now, because ANet forcefully artificially limitates for everyone the maximum amount of how oftenly a name can exist in this ganme, so that we even come at all into this shameful situation at all, that people start fighting over names and who or what the hell has here “more rights”, than other players?

Seriously, this discussion has reached a new “low” by this kind of niveau, when we start already discussing about, who has here more rights over names, that it gets really laughable.

And when people already fear personally more, that they MIGHT lose their “reputations” instantly due to some dumb trolls that you find in every single freaking only game there is – this kind of thinking comes over with the bitter taste of biased bad made experiences, that pigeonhole people that you don’t know, but maybe just share with you in a game the same character name instantly into a wrong way, as if every single person that shares with you the same character name is some kind of bad potential “indentidy destroyer” rollyeyes

What kind of bad experiences must someone have made in a game, to have this kind of thinking …. that the very first thing they can think about and fear about when hearing about names should become unrestricted/unlimited in the amount of how often they can be used, that the very first thing that people should under their opinion od is having nothing else in mind, than to copy someone else to destry that persons identity…

Seriously, do some peopel even think for a moment first about what they write, before they write??
Or do you seriously believe, people here have constantly nothing better in their lives to do, than to search for other people to copy them and do bad things under their copied names in the hope they can destroy someones reputation???

How much paranoia must a person have to think from everyone in a game that might share their character name, that this player did this only, to hurt me??
Seriously guys, come back to sense.

Such thinks like these kind of horror scenarios won’t happen, when Anet would allow infinite character name sharing.
And if such things should really happen in a game, then will get situations quickly cleared by the Customer Support who’s still then in the end responsible for persons who violate the game rules and solve the situation quickly through simple and unique identifying tolls with the simplest and strongest identifiyer still being the unique display name which simply can’t be copied as the unique 4 digit number on each display name makes it impossible for wannabe imposters to copie someone with that.

If the Chat would enable everyone at will to quickly see the display names of other players without having to do with that the report procedure just to get to see it (we already see easily the display numbers of other people already in our friend lists ect) and can make from there comparisons if someone is the real or a fake person…
If that would be possible to see easiyl, it woudl improve everythign already alot and would make things alot easier for everyone to recognize in the Chat if somebody writign in it is the same person, or just someone else that uses the same character name.

And still then.. think about it, when Anet would make it possible to share names infinetely, how oftenly do you believe will you come really then into a situation, where you will make discussions with other people and then will participate others with exact the same name??

WHat do you seriously guess, how oftrnly this situation will happen in a game like GW2, where all players are splitted up among several douzens of different world wide servers, speak different languages, may share in most cases only the name, but not the same race, not the same class, have not the same body height and so on.. theres also alot of other factors with that you can differentiate between players, not just only the name.

People should stop to try making out of ants now elefants here …
The issues and problems that people are desperately doomsaying and badmouthing here in order to try for making up “arguements” against infinite name sharing definetely won’t happen here in this game the way they kind of “foresee” that it would happen, unless fortunetelling has become finally a serious “job” that works ….

At this point, it’s likely too costly for the benefit to do the switch over between the system we have no and the one you propose. They won’t see enough added profit to make it worthwhile.

Not to mention, the majority likely don’t care enough to have a strong preference for either system and aren’t going to be that happy or sad regardless of the decision.

But the small portion that would greatly prefer a system like yours is matched by the small portion that greatly prefer the current system. So ANet can’t please everyone. So they may as well just leave it as it is, since neither system is better than the other objectively. Each system has its pros and cons. And whether a system’s pros or cons outweigh the other is subjective.

Which means at some point in the future, there may be some names that are freed up.

Not quite. This means that at this moment they do not intend to change that policy, but she won’t commit to any more definite statement. Which is Anet’s general policy, by the way – no promises are definite and unchangable. This doesn’t mean they intend or want to change everything. Just that they are cautious.

Besides, as has been already mentioned in this thread, freeing the unused names will not help OP in any way. He doesn’t want unused names to be freed – what he wants is for the names he wants to be taken away from other players and given to him. And since all the desirable names that do not require a lot of imagination to think of would end up on the accounts of active players (generally – players that are more active than OP, and thus would be online and checking well before him), he is still quite unlikely to get his wish.

Like I said, sometime in the future there may be some names freed up.

Sorry, but after Hot, I believe literally anything can be changed at their whim.
Thanks for posting the policy. I believe we are aware of it.
Policies change.
I didn’t start the topic, I’m only supporting one side, unless/until someone gives an actually better reason for keeping the current “policy”.

Considering you asked “Provide a copy of the company’s written statement that they will never change the current naming policy," then a statement that they will not and the names must stay is about a good a written statement that they will never change the current naming policy as anyone here can give you.

To reverse that now would be to go back on a promise made to everyone who bought the game and was told that they could come and go and their accounts would be safe from character name removal. There would be many people unhappy about that promise being broken. There would be a large backlash for that. And just to make the new people, who might not even continue playing, happy.

What is much more likely, if there ever is a new name scarcity, is that they enable capital letters inside names (to count as a new name) or that they increase the number of letters allowed so that longer names can be made.

To be fair, the full quote in this thread is:

As I said some time ago, and thanks for finding that quote, Qugi, we don’t do “name wipes” on a regular or even irregular basis. It may be that at some point in the Guild Wars 2 future there’s a “reset” of names, but I have not heard anything of that being planned or even proposed on our side.

Lots of forum members have given some good ideas for naming your character and any work-around that may be needed for a taken name. I feel sure you’ll come up with something that suits you.

Which means at some point in the future, there may be some names that are freed up.

So there’s no written statement that says they’ll never do name wipes. Just that there currently are not any name wipes and that none are currently in the works.

If the expansion failed, it would be on sale. Obviously someone must be buying it, because it makes no sense to keep a failed game at full price for any company.

Yea, games that don’t sell too well at launch do tend to go on sale pretty quickly.

For example:

Sims 4 released September 2, 2014. Black Friday 2014, almost 2 months later it was on sale 50%. It did not sell well at launch due to horrible PR disasters that had happened for MONTHS leading up to the launch. EA, greedy EA, put a game on sale 2 months after it launched.

A game can go on sale and not be a failling game. Fallout 4 was on sale over Christmas in the UK, my local Game was selling it for £29, from £49.

But is Game the owner of Fallout 4? I should have mentioned go on sale on the game owner’s site. So sales directly from Bethesda, I think, for Fallout 4, not that I think that’s what Bethesda does.

But sales from EA directly for EA games close to launch date likely spell not so good sales and they’re trying to get more buyers to reach the money amount needed to make shareholders happy. Or sales from ANet directly in the case of GW2.

I don’t really agree with “flushing” inactive names/characters, either. If there was some kind of technical reason/need for it and it was only on characters that have been inactive for a very long time then…maybe. But not specifically JUST to release the taken names.

Like others have said the best way to make sure you get the name you want is to use a last/surname. Make one up that you like, and odds are your name will always be free. As for Asura not having last names….Asura names are pretty random and easy to make up. There was even an Asura NPC in GW1 named “Ybbob” (Bobby, spelled backwards).

The name I like to use, “Rio”, is always taken….everywhere….within minutes of the servers opening. So…I got around it by making a last name that I ALSO like very much. Dunno why others can’t do the same.

Some people like to follow the lore and Asura and Sylvari don’t have last names.

However, they do have titles. So those of you who like to follow lore, give your Asura or Sylvari a title if they end up having a taken name.

If it is Digital River, you’ll want to contact support to make sure it won’t ban your accounts AND it won’t black list your credit card assuming you’d want to purchase gems or buy digital copies of future expansions from ANet’s website without having to get a secondary credit card.

There is a time limit for charge backs I believe for most credit cards and that I believe is 30 days (that’s why most TV products offer 60 or 90 day try it risk free policies, then if they feel you’ve gotten successful usage, you can’t do a charge back on the item).

Yes becouse your old character was the one who learned to make that wooden sword and was at the forge getting his/her skill up.

It totaly breaks immersion that you dont have to go find someone for instance your old character or someone else who done the crafting on your brand new character.

I wouldn’t mind an option at character creation to copy a character’s crafting professions and then if you hit yes, you get a drop down menu of your characters. That way those who care about immersion get to have their immersion, but those that don’t care about immersion get to have the convenience of switching crafting mains.

Black Friady was not EA putting the game on sale, Black Friday is when RETAILERS discount their inventory, not the manufacturers. Retailers use Black Friday to make room for new items and empty valuable warehouse space taken up by “old” merchandise.

When the Origin store puts it up for 50%, that’s all EA. 100% EA’s doing, because EA owns Origin.

I know they dropped the price that much on Black Friday 2014 because I bought it via Origin for 50% of the initial price on Black Friday 2014.

And then, if I recall correctly, they went 75% off for the following Monday on Origin.

So firstly beware of that troll, and secondly Anet should add a feature where players are immune to kick until they have looted the chests.

This is really unfair, and trolls like that ruin the whole game experience…

Maybe add a new report category “Troll”, and if a player gets too many troll reports his name should be red or something, so everyone will know!

I could see an event where if you went to Diessa Plateau for a week you had a chance to become branded and could fight with other branded against regular players. Not Plains of Ashford since that’s a starting zone and true newbies who chose Charr as their first character don’t need to be forced into PvP on day 1, but in a low enough zone that new players that wanted to join in on the event wouldn’t be excluded since Diessa Plateau isn’t that high of a level zone.

Like one of the locations for Maize balm farming is at a heart location where a means of completing the heart is killing the ambients the Maize balm farmers use.

Someone killing the ambients there when there are Maize balm farmers there aren’t necessarily trolling. They might be trolling or they may be working on the heart, but you can’t tell that on glance alone. And they may not have chat open or paying attention to chat so asking them doesn’t mean that if they don’t answer they’re trolling. Don’t tell me or other players how to price the items I sell on the TP. If I want to place an item under what you think the value of it is, then that’s my prerogative. You have no idea why I’m placing it at that value. I may need a decent bit of gold pretty quickly to get an item with low supply but higher demand and I can’t afford to buy gems to convert to gold. So I place the value of the expensive item 10 g below the others to sell it faster. Or I may just want to sell it faster because I don’t like my items to sit in the TP for months on end. Or I don’t have the money to place the item up for sell at 60 g, but I do for 50 g.

So don’t presume I’m placing the items up below what you call market value out of ignorance. I may be doing it knowing full well that I could get it for more, but choosing not to. And don’t presume that others are ignorant of the consequences either.

Legendary vs Ascended

Hi,

I find very disturbing that Ascended and Legendary weapons have same stats. When i make sword that costs over 3000 golds and takes a lot of my time to make and then i see sword thats worth around 50g and week of playing with exactly same result… I don’t have legendary myself but i think it’s quite unfair. Legendary should’nt have same value as Ascended beause its LEGENDARY.

Thanks.

You are completely right if you trash most of what Gw2 stand for.

Then why not make all legendaries acc bound. You would recognize people who truly did something to have that legendary.

Legendaries are account bound, and u can transmute the skin on other same types. Gw2 is a pretty game and it gets that with a legendary’s visual effects. Currently my necro feels naked, but when it gets nevermore with flying ravens around ill be stoked to play it more. And it feels great beating a player knowing u didnt outgear him with stats, while having nice combat animations

Not true for all legendaries. The original legendary weapons are not account bound on acquire, they do become account bound on equip.

The ones released with HoT are account bound on acquire.

Here’s a great little searchable database that lets you look up food items by level and buffs. Has drop down lists for the searches, just pick the buffs you want and it will give you a list of foods that have it.

Great tool! Whoever wrote this little thing is a kind person!

It’s gone. Just plain gone.

You necro’d a 2 year old post just to post that the site is down?

Personally, if you’ve got HoT and haven’t finished up the masteries, the best way to level is through tomes. That way experience from map exploration and personal story go towards your masteries rather than leveling up.

I’ve got a mesmer and I’m on a NA server. I can hop in game most evenings and some mornings. Just leave a message in here and I’ll definitely get it. Also level a message for where you need to get the vista for as my mesmer doesn’t have 100% map completion yet.

Not saying that your issue isn’t important (it definitely is and it needs to be fixed asap), but game developers who work on gem store updates are not the ones who fix the glitches and technical problems the game has.

Stop blaming a different team for the lack of progress a completely separate team is making on the issue.

I suppose what is so gripping about this incident isn’t that it might happen to us one day, but that when it did happen the response was so backwards an nonsensical.

#1: Apparently, RMT is illegitimate funds that harm the game by existing. Now, unless I miss my guess, there’s only one source for gold to come from for RWTers to use: a sweatshop, where a bunch of people will grind the game for a awhile, pool their resources, and then sell it to players on the cheap. The thing is, this isn’t much different from a single player grinding their way to this much gold. I’m not a fan of RWTing, but I fail to see how the mere existence of the money is somehow wrong, and that anything bought with this money has to be terminated.

#2: The fact that the guy received a strike against his account for something that was completely out of his control. The only clue that he did nothing wrong was that the bought item was from 8 months ago. If he decided to sell the slivers a week ago, the strike might never have been removed. Anet would’ve remained convinced that the player was using some convoluted gold laundering scheme by… selling items the way you’re supposed to sell them.

#3: The fact that initially, the guy had the gold removed and wasn’t refunded the items. It’s an extended case of how schools will suspend students for getting punched: It doesn’t make a lick of sense, puts the power to cause harm into the hands of someone that the seller literally has no control over

#4: The fact that this had to be brought to attention publicly before something was done about it. Granted, the fact that this issue has been resolved helps things out, but this shouldn’t have made it to step 4 before something was done. Someone other than the customer should’ve looked at the whole thing and thought “Oh wow this doesn’t make sens” and done something about it.

This is a public case. What I’m concerned about is how often this kind of non-thought discipline happens that doesn’t get reported. How many players out there received strikes because someone decided to punch them?

#1. If they don’t remove the gold that gold sellers sell, it duplicates the gold received from accounts that were recovered and had a rollback on. You can imagine how this over along period of time would be bad for the economy.

#2. This was probably more due to an honest mistake than malicious intent. Items that aren’t usable anymore but are sellable on the TP make wonderful ways to bypass the mail restrictions on gold. This is what the situation with slivers is and the poster on reddit got caught in the net and when ANet realized it, they removed the strike. But since it was likely a gold seller who bought the slivers in order to gain complete control over that market, they felt the gold needed to be returned. They should have returned the items right away without having to have it go public, so hopefully, they’ll do the same for future innocents caught in the net.

#3. Probably intentional behavior if they suspect it was involved in gold selling. Remove the item(s) used for gold selling and it becomes harder to do so. The items should have been returned immediately when they determined that the person was not a gold buyer or seller.

#4. This is the only one I agree with you on. ANet shouldn’t have made the person feel they need to make a public post in order to get the proper resolution.

Seller beware? Avoid the TP?

Seera.5916

My biggest question about this, why did Anet hand out any Gold for this transaction at all?

Why not just ban the buyer, and then roll the seller’s account back (I Assume TP listings are part of the account rollback feature?) and then thats that.

The fact that anet posted this on Reddit is troublesome enough as they should really not have openly posted about this at all. But rather kept between the account holder and support.

But what happens when a player lists an item for 3k-4k and a RMT account holder buys said item and gets banned when the Gold is traced back to accounts that are flagged? The Item in question is lost (lets say its a legendary that someone put a lot of time on here) and all that gold is just up in the air.

There NEEDS to be a policy in place about this kinda stuff from happening, and it needs to be a policy that the accounts that are not found at fault get rolled back OR the item gets reimbursed. Let the Gold hit the Void, so as long as the seller can get their item back who cares.

Then what happens if at time point a, you sell an item that is used by gold sellers either now or in the future. Then at time point b, you finally get the precursor drop from the mystic forge and it’s the one you want. Then time point c comes along and rolls your account back to point a, with point a being before point b.

So now innocent players are likely to lose any progress in the game if their irk is bought by a gold seller? In my opinion, that’s worse, because what if it had been eight months like what happened with the reddit poster? That is a lot of achievement points, gem purchases, skin unlocks, possibly even a few characters if I make alts.

World Completion Rush & Hearts in Squad?

2-3 zones per week, I wouldn’t call it rush. Can do world completion in 3 days. But your idea is good it will help new players a lot.

How could a open-world-rush help new players? I don’t see it… or is it the same kind of help many guilds provide, when new players get abandoned during the first story video in AC?

Finding new friends.

Getting that one skill point that just seems to be too hard for them solo

Pling plong pling plong pling plong nonstop forever. It is stuck ringing in my ears even when the Ho-Ho-Trons are no longer there. Pling plong pling plong. Make it stop. Please.

This. The sound is just right for me to get a head ache from it if I stay near it too much.

I wish there was option that was: Mute all minis, Mute all but own mini, and Mute no minis. That way a person who likes the sound of their mini doesn’t have to choose between being to hear their mini and not hearing the annoying mini sounds.

can’t you just wait for that charr to move or something? anyway people have already told you how to select standard models anyway

It doesn’t bother me to wait for a minute for the Charr or Norn to move, but it obviously bothered someone else enough to post this thread.

I was just answering the question of “Why is it a problem?”.

Are you playing zoomed all the way in or something?

If you play a small Asuran it doesn’t take much for a Charr or Norn to block most of your view in front.

Can’t say I’ve ever noticed. But then I normally play with the camera zoomed all the way out, and the field of view set to just over 1/2.

Here’s a screenshot I just took on my minimum height asura, with my normal camera settings & position, and a charr with black wings standing right in front of me.

Admittedly they’re partially obscuring the view of one of the bank NPCs, but that can be solved by turning the camera slightly to either side. They’re certainly not blocking most of my view.

Problem isn’t when it happens in a wide open room. The problem occurs when the camera is forced to be right on top of your character, which happens most often during jumping puzzles where seeing ahead of you is more important than in other areas of the game. And sometimes moving the camera doesn’t help that much in those cases.

At least, as a pve player, you don’t need to invest too much gold for raid gears.

We wvw and pvp players have to make a dedicated raid gear, which, you probably already know, is not cheap at all. I agree that there needs to be an alternative way for obtaining legendary armor.

I’m confused by this. If we’re all doing PvE raids, why would there be more expense for WvW or PvP players? I have to buy gear too… if my PvE gear isn’t “correct” for the raid, I need to forge it or craft a new set.

WvW sees the most benefit out of ascended gear.

PvP players don’t need to buy ANY gear….

Help?

You aren’t forced to only play one aspect of the game.

A WvW or PvP guild may occasionally venture out into PvE and do things like raids or fractals or dungeons. Or their members might.

Mats and gold aren’t as easy to obtain in WvW or PvP (if at all in PvP).

So the PvE players earn gold and mats for their gear a much higher rate than WvW and PvP players assuming both groups primarily stay in their preferred areas.

And for open world PvE, raid gear will work just fine. Not so much with PvP or WvW. The builds are likely wildly different since in those aspects you either don’t use the same armor (PvP) or have to fight other players instead of AI (WvW). So those players have to have a second set if they want to be meta for both aspects of the game.

So to get legendary armor, WvW and PvP players first have to put gold and time into making a set of armor that will only be used to obtain the legendary armor. Whereas PvE players only need to make one armor set and be able to do everything they want as meta.

Suggestion: Simple Class / Race changes

By the same logic nobody knows exactly what Anet had tried and decided against previously. Therefore it cannot be used as evidence against all forms of changes that involve the personal story.
It doesn’t matter if you are convinced in particular, anyone from Anet would know what the idea is about if they take one minute to read the first post and that’s all that really matters.

And no one in this thread has claimed that they’ve tried to do what you’ve posted and failed.

We’re just trying to tell you that it may not be as simple as you’re claiming it to be and that posts from ANet have shown that they aren’t really looking for a way to implement race change due to the complexity involved in the personal story code. If you stopped and read our posts like you want us to read your posts, you would have seen that.

I have already pointed out solution to that exact problem. And people continue to make the SAME argument that it’s impossible. Not sure exactly who’s having a monologue here.

If there is a problem with the solution, say exactly what it is. There isn’t anything that actually makes it impossible. It just need to be approached in a clever way.

I am not the one having a monologue when people make the same argument they did five year ago without reading my post. It’s NOT too complicated when you reset the character.

We have read your post. None of us have said it’s impossible. Just stated that the past attempts ANet have tried have left the personal story in a broken state. So it’s likely not as easy as you seem to think it is to reset the personal story, which would have to happen with a race change.

Unless you have literally seen the code for GW2, you can NOT say if it is or is not too complicated to reset the character. So I’ll ask again, and please answer it this time: Have you actually seen the code?

If you haven’t seen the code, stop assuming how complicated or not your solution is.

Just shut down GW2 (or minimize it) and just knock the essay out. How fast do you type? If you type at least 50 words per minute, you can knock your essay out in under 10 minutes (4 minutes of typing, plus time for thinking). You can take a break for 10 minutes from the game, right?
