Today i had the most awesome experience playing ranked spvp, I am baffled by how poorly people know their roles.

I play thief in like 95% of my games, it is arguably the worst class in the game right now but I still love it.

This is my point of view so feel free to correct me but:
As a thief nowadays your role is even more pushed down the lines of decap/cap and +1 fights because you simply can not 1v1 another class unless the other player is less skilled than you are. So I do my job, we end up winning by ~20 pts and:

Entering the story: the enemy DH who presses 3 skills and lays down his awesomely traps and says > “never seen such a coward, impressive”. And i`m like whoa, I played my class, when people have bad thieves on their team they complain that the class is freeloss, but when they play against someone who tries to play the class and manages to do so decently they flame… Worst part is they don`t even flame properly, the guy said “you were in the most 2v1 fights of your team by far” ofc i was, that is MY job.

Please understand that not all classes are meant to stay on point and take a kitten ton of dmg and go 1v1. 1v2 1vWorld

It’s not a “omg i can’t 1v1 dh”

It’s cause thief has no role

-Not a bunker
-Not a healer
-Not a Supporter
-Zerk dps deal a little more dmg than a bunker ( cause bunker have boons and armor and you as zerk don’t. It’s higher the Zerk one, but not that higher ).
-Can’t go 1v1 to contest a Point
-Can’t go 1v1 to fast solo a boss ( cause take to much dmg and have to lower its own dps to avoid dmg ).
-Can’t Rezz cause high dmg incoming.

Before we had to take down other zerks and help to debuff ( steal ), but now we simply can’t.

I still play only thief cause is the only class i like ( and the only who really pays for every single mystakes ), but actually the meta is not for us.

Stronghold is failing because of premade abusing that sort of comp.

+1, right now it’s easy rank up’s for premades to queue Stronghold for fast wins. NPC’s are nearly unkillable, and that’s just a flawed design for a map designed around the npc’s.

You could spend your time trying to kill door breakers with little success. Or you could chase tempest/mes around while door breakers waltz through the doors. Never thought these bunkering classes could get worse outside lil circles they have to stand in. Now you give them a whole map to kite around while they keep npc’s alive for fast/easy wins… yeah…

PvP can’t get any worse at the moment, and division ladder means absolutely nothing due to these cheese tactics. You’ve got premades cheapening the PvP league all around, be it Stronghold or Conquest.

btw, could be worse… i though that gw2 was really bad, and hot surprised me.

-you will make suffer other players by playing a class u don’t know, givin em a bad time and a maybe a loss
-cause points are accound shared, you are gonna lose rank points cause of the new class, and maybe a tier
-Again, as spvp “non generic” achievement, it should be accomplished by anyone. with any class.

Also, trying to take into a bunker discussion warrior and thief and compare em to revenant, guardian, necro, scrapper or elementalist… 2016 first troll.

or maybe you just didn’t see the great tournament where no1 couldnt kill anyone cause tanky + elementalist ( thanks anet. before we tought it was a crap spvp, but now we “really” miss the old meta ).

It’s not possible to complete the first achievement tier by playing one single class.

It’s not really good to force a “pvp” ( i know actually spvp is worse than before, but that’s not the matter now ) player to play other classes if he does not want, so…

… any chance the achievement will be fixed with another generic one to allow who wants to play a single class to procede?

I know there are only 5 game to win, but it’s really bad that way.

A simple Trick

1) Aim for high ranks with a kitten bunker class
2) play thief
3) you don’t have to troll, go afk or other things. just play thief as its best.
4) bring down with you every ppl in team.
5) wait for ANET to remove bunker meta, and for their apologies.

As previous season ( eles and engs ) now the situation in still the same.

But now also started a ranked season, so it would be a chance to make changes.

I was thinking about…

… fix, balances… some classes will always be more powerful than others.
we should deal with it.

We can’t force people to play the class they don’t want to, but still we can do something about ranked teams ( pugs or premades ).

Let’s set each team can containt only 1x class.
Obviously non premade ( 5 ppl ) teams will have different queues, depends on which class they play or they need.

But we will see 5/6/7 of 9 classes ( think 2 will be too underpower ) into meta.

-There will be more differents setup.
-More people could play the class they want.
-There will be less OP class abuse ( 2/3x class for an instance )
-Tournaments will be more fun

Also it won’t be hard for ANET to set.

Please fix and give the chance to retry without doing all the time the whole story path ( like migraine ).

RNG orbs on 3rd phase also does not help you ( cause rng does not fit well with skill ).

As thief i disagree.

2 ripped boons was too much ( and have been nerfed ).
Also, pretend to activate a “burst skill” without hitting, was gross too.

With daredevil traits s/d is awesome ( the real problem are the other classes, but better asking for a nerf than returnto the old unbalanced style ).

Not to mention, S skill 2
off hand pistol skill 5
damage on off hand dagger 4

All nerfs were ok.
Actually the problems is both the meta and some of the other classes ( too cleave damage from tanky, zerk, condition, healers ) which wont allow us to play ( and i like a class which have to pay for every single mystake, but atm is way too over )

That was HoT fault, for being released with no balance at all.

Indeed we needa big patch instead a balance one, but season 1 is too close, so lets hope for some good fix at least.

It’s faster and more fun ( tbh, farming is not farm at all, but chosing between gathering running from map to map or doing eventes, think i ll prefer the second one ).

Totally agree.

But what im claiming is “when a skill is ok, you should change it to make another new one that will be both ok with spvp and pve. you should take that skill where is ok, and try modify it where its not”

More safe for everybody.
And easier to balance.

That’s another spvp issue.

Not being able to counterplay ( in before “you can dodge 2x and avoid 80% dmg” ), or waste many resources on a 15 sec cd skill.

Btw, as Unrelenting assault, a friend of mine told me he usually get stuck to walls, which interrupts skill and could stuck him into the wall.

Also, if im correct, getting invisibile ends the assault.

Surge from the mist idk.

Never expect any huge changes. For example the DH damage will never change a lot at this point.

Why you might ask…

Players are also playing those classes in PvE. And thanks to ascended gear they made a quite massive commitment towards a singular build. Changing a class will also change their PvE effectiveness, and might cause players to have invalidated ascended gear which took them weeks if not months to acquire as well as a lot of ingame or worse real money.

They just should make separate balance from spvp and pve.
If a PvE build is good enough and not overpower, and a PvP build instead is overpower/underpower in spvp, just modify spvp skills.

Its not that hard for em, and its easy for us all.

For an instance: Skill A deal too much dmg in spvp, but it’s ok in pve.

1) Skill A remain the same in pve
2) Skill A will be reworked in spvp

So, there will be no future issues about pve, and spvp could be fixed with a nerf/buff.

Also, they should declare a specific “role” or “build” for spvp, working on it.
If they are not able to follow spvp with fix ( maybe not good enough or just a too low team ), they should accept it and work towards classes chosing a single role for each of em, and working on it comparing it with other classes and their roles.

I would prefer a Class packet instead a “build your chara” for an spvp match.
Put limits and just work on balance and fun.

Ex: Chosing a thief for ranked will be “only s/d with there traits, sigils, runes, skills”… i i would appreciate it, cause it will bring balance.
Also limit, on ranked, 1x class

It will lower the choice for the single player, indeed.
But people who wants to play ranked spvp pretend balance and fun with it.

I think they don’t really care if they can only choose a class, like street fighter.

While waiting for some balance ( or at least to gather a full premade ), i was trying a d/d condition build.

It’s fun but lacks both skill and interrupts ( headshot its like a must to me ).
Also im using only 1 breakstun ( shadowstep, signet of agility and Caltrops. Poison as elite ).

Using rabid amulet ( maybe wanderer would be fine too ).
d/d ( tormenting + earth ) sb ( energy + doom )
Runes of the Krait ( thinking about Lyssa ).

As traits, DD, Trickery and Deadly Arts.

Suggestions ( i was thinking about Acrobatic over Deadly Arts )?

thief is generally just to decap. if you can watch minimap a lot and have good premade friends to play with, then you will be fine. that’s it. There is no tip neeeded for thiefs.

Thief is most about premades and teamwork ( u need to be skilled, ofc, but playing in pug with wanderers is near to impossible ).

Before was hard too playing into a pug, but now is even harder.

edit: the fact is that, atm, playing for fun is not allowed. Im going to see tournaments to see how a pro team plays ( if they do ) a thief… but still, so frustrating.

Don’t see ranged combat as dmg only.
Shortbow provides evade, aoe poison field, blast, teleport/blind.

Also have decent dmg ( shortbow 2 can crit 5/6k on zerks ).

I don’t get about ranged pressure.
You have many ways to get closer:

-D/P skill 3
-S/ skill 2
-Steal
-Signet of Infiltration
-Shadowstep
-Stealth
-SB skill 5

I know that actually thieves have to use shortbow more often than before ( with 17k healt im used to die in 1/2 sec from a single tanky character as reaper or dh ), but guns re kinda hard to fix ( cause they re meant both to condition set and physical dps set ).

I agree with hackks.

The combat is not interesting cause too much confusion and stomp.

It’s great, imho, 1v1 while u can watch your opponent and deduce through animations what he is going to cast or use. Maybe counter him or just chose what to do in response of that specific skill… interrupt? dodge it? teleport to avoid? use cover?

But now ( before too, but was better than HoT spvp ) there’s more spam and the game seems more casual.

I know that thieves have dmg and survival issues, but givin em a ridicolous 3k dmg over 4 sec while other classes deal 20k over 3/4 sec will be worthless.

There’s too cleave ( both physical and condition ) dmg.
They should work on it instead on thieves.

Or maybe thieves should start posting spvp videos, to let devs know how actually is the situation.

I was used to the old thief meta:

-Squishy but able to trade with other zerks
-Support role to terminate/debuffs other targets, while going in/out from combat.

Atm the meta is both more tanky and dangerous, and u could die faster than before…
… so here’s the question:

how you ( thieves maybe ) deal with other classes now?
what do you consider your roles to be?
playing a nonthief class, what’s atm hard for you against them?

To be honest, I feel like too many things are account/soulbound…

i feel the same but about the new system.
seems like it’s gonna be harder to pay and get what you want.

tbh i don’t pay that much ( maybe 2k gems/year ), but still i don’t get why should they “force” ppl to play ( i know some people have money, some times, some both, some neither… but cause gw2 its almos about skins, and having an ascended piece is not that hard, why did they chose this path? ).

what you see doens’t mean they are balanced or not.

It’s not a flame.
Just saying that somebody just play his class ( not the “most powerfull”).
Or maybe sometimes plays the “daily class” one.

I play Thief, and sometimes happens to be in party with anothe one. and one in the opposite team. which means 3 thieves out of 10 characters.

But usually the team with 2 thieves ( or zerk mesmers, which are kinda like thieves ) lose the game.

btw, i usually see:

-Guardians ( usually 3/4x )
-Necros ( Usually 2/3x )
-Thieves/Mesmers/Hunters/Revenants ( usually 1/2x )
-Eng/Elementalists/Warriors ( usually 1x, but not all 3 in the same game. it’s rare i mean )

I agree we should see the season starts before claiming something about the best clas combinations, thought some classes are cleary better than others.

Or at least we should see come tournament ( ABJ vs ORG for an instance ).

If only we were able to block players on the forum, then we could much more pleasent experience. I would start by blocking the players who put out 20-35 whine-posts a day – simply to clean out some of the clutter. And who knows – maybe it would be possible to identify the constructive posts.

It wont be useful, but at least worth a try.

I mean, community and devs should discuss about a little more.

Let’s start stating that if pve ( and wvw, cause it uses pve stuff ) is going to be more casual day by day, nobody cares ( and here i mean the one who want to improve their pvp experience or just play spvp ).

PvP fixes shouldn’t affect PvE, and Vice Versa.

If all classes would be at least ok in pve ( raid/dungeons ), why modify em to bring with the same build balance in both PvP and PvE?

Wouldn’t be simplier to have a different tooltip/use depending on which game modality is the player playing?

If the fix will be right, then would be a great fix, but if it will be wrong, at least the other modality will not suffer from it.

Let the community decide about something is totally wrong, but this doesn’t mean devs mustn’t listen it.

All spvp problems should be listed down, to be faced one by one.
If devs would prefer a list of meta players to work with, it would be also ok.
But somehow they should let the community know what they’re working on, and what’s the goal they want to reach.

At the moment, i see no communication at all.

That item is it’s no longer avaible ( nor through shops, nor by tokens, cause they does not exist anymore ). 2 out of 3 miniatures are account bound, so i can’t buy em at tp, so i was wandering… any chance to get this miniature in a near future?

by tokens would be nice, but it would be also ok using my gems.

i don’t think traps are the main issue.
Mostly guardians uses the same 2 utility skills which are meditations ( judge’s intervention and contemplation of purity ) and the elite meditation skill.

Healing trap is ok ( but it’s also ok the old 2sec block heal ), and test of faith problem is the high protection duration + unblockable.

As some1 said before, if traps and longbow will be nerfed too much, people will return to the old meditation burning guardian, which was also too good.

I would prefer to see some nerfs about meditation ( remove healing and fury from using em for an instance would lower the dps and guardian sustain ).
