DS is a first of its kind. The map close down and reset 100% every 2? hours.
This mean that if you dont jump there at a reset time, then you will get to an emty (new) map, since all the ongoing maps are already full full full.

So what to do?, use LFG, open lfg and find a taxi to a DS map, this way you will be able to taxi into a already ongoing map, or hopefully join a newly reset map and be there from the start.

(EU player here), I joined one of the comunitys on TS and it said, next jump to DS at 18:30, we was 400-500 in the channel and split between 4 maps (all maps was therefore full just with us). We made sure to start at a reset and to be in a party so if any of us dc’ed we was able to taxi back in.

gl and I hope you find some good maps

Either I am lucky or.. I play both ranger and necro on and off and have never had any problems.. ever. It might have something to do with the party’s I join (on ranger, generally meta party’s and on necro never meta part’s haha)

I do however never play ranger or necro if there is already another ranger/necro in the party, simply reason is that 99% of the player base of both proffessions pray like crap (sadly). I cant count the number of times I have seen a ranger use lb4 to push the boss out of all the aoe and a necro using fear to do the same, or the number of times a 3 signets ranger have joined my party and claimed to be meta… its sad, but some of the bad rep. is simply due to there being so many bad rangers. And yes, there is prob as many bad war’s but even if a war is really bad and only press 1 on his gs, he is atleast not stopping the rest of the party from doing dmg

I think most people don’t even realise that half the knockbacks rangers get blamed for are from mesmers who practically have the exact same weapon.

This is so true, even though the animations are so different that you dont need to have played alot to know the difference.

First I will start with a disclaimer. I am not a PvPer. I do not enjoy PvP, and I am not interested in PvP. I don’t like the idea of being forced to PvP, so I’m going to ignore this method.

To bad, PvP is already the by far fastest way of getting tokens/dungeon-skins. I have a guildy that wanted the HotW skins and got them all in 1 day from PvP. It took alot of 1)run in
2) press 1
3) jump down and die
4) start over from 1)

So this is what they meant by destroy the Berserker Meta. Make it so the content that Berserker excels at isn’t run anymore in favor of much more rewarding content that requires different gear.

I like the elegance of this solution.

I think I have missed out on content, where is this content where DPS-gear dont excel?
Open world PvE.. nope
Fractals.. Nope
Raids (from what we have seen so far).. Nope
PvP.. Nope
WvW.. YES.. But I already play this

So what have I missed?

Well I guess it will free some of my time up. Less reason to help new people with what skills do, what combo field and finishers are and what they do or what buffs are. Since none of these things are used outside of dungeons/fractals. And since fractals is a bad environment for this, I will prob stop joining the “we need help”-party’s in lfg.

I am just glad I am an old player with people to do fractals/raids with already since it will be so mush harder for new people to get into this from now on.

All that said, I get the decision (from a business perspectiv) since it will be get HoT or dont play instanced content.

Deeply Disappointed with dungeon changes

The dungeons reward too much for the effort they take. With the glitching, skipping and the berserker meta they take barely more effort than zerging the temples in Orr so why should they reward so much?

As we get much better designed content that may actually take effort and has a place for all kinds of players, they can either make that content reward more than dungeons, or they can nerf dungeons and make new content take its place. Looks like they picked the second option, most likely because the first option would risk causing inflation in the economy, but either way, dungeons won’t be the favored way to get rewards anymore, outside of their exclusive gear.

There is a third option, which would be to revamp the dungeons with mechanics that don’t look like they were designed on a napkin, but they would essentially be working on old content instead of fresh new content if they did that.

I agree that dungeons, as a concept, are more interesting than fractals though. The story/explore mode was a great idea. Hopefully, they revamp dungeons later as a free patch and then bump the rewards back up, but I wouldn’t count on it.

Only problem with your logic is that there is several easyer AND at the same time more rewarding things in the game. Lets mention a few:

1) PvP run into the middle AA and jump down. This is 1 of the 2 best farms in the game, and the hardest part is not falling a sleep.
2) Chestfarm in SW, again yeld alot more gold then dungeons and hardest part is to press f every 15 sec.
3) events in SW, close to same reward as chest farm but abit harder some of the mobs will actually kill you if you go afk.
4) champ farm in Orr/wherever. More gold then dungeons and it is so hard to press 111 on your bow..
5) Chopping trees/mining in ANY map. Again this will make you more gold then dungeons
6) dungeons.. finally..

If the gold rewards are going to be nerfed, there needs to be a significant increase in the token rewards to compensate.

I don’t see how that will make up for the way this will further depopulate dungeon runs, although it will at least provide a little cushion for folks still skin farming or working on current legendaries.

Perhaps they might consider a diminishing returns model with the gold too rather than killing it at a flat rate across the board.

PvP is already faster then dungeons for both tokens and skins.

This is exactly what J.S. mentions in his blog post.

The major concern that we’re sure to face is the specific intent of dungeons as a gold-generating activity. To that effect, let’s talk about map rewards.

Map rewards are specific, tangible rewards you receive from playing on a map. They allow players to balance overpriced items as well as seek specific materials for their personal goals without constant uncertainty. Map rewards are pretty great but are a constant enemy of scarcity. Map-reward materials can no longer be overpriced for any extended period of time because players now have the power to push the supply when needed. This shifts the power from the supplier of a rare good to the buyer, because the buyer now has the option to refrain from buying and still achieve goals, which is what we wanted.

Yes, This is what I feared, the ideer is good. But that logic only work in a sustem where we all start from 0. Only problem there is that some of us already have a nice pile of gold and then it is a whole other thing.

It seems end goal is forcing people to do everything and not just focus on the part of the content they find fun. I can see the logic in this from one point of view, but I dont like being forced to do anything

Speaking of SW, the value of each champ bag deteriorates greatly due to the popularity of the farm. When it was firstly introduced, you can make easily 200 g in 3-4 hours by abusing it. As soon as the chest map is organized and more people make trains, the gold income drastically drops to the point of only 10 silver per champ bag. It’s a sign that the economy balances the value and influx of gold by this farm and it’s not as unhealthy as we made it to be. (Actually, I’m quite grateful to the chest farmers for bring down the atrocious price of T6 mats that reigns high at 45-70 silvers a piece for months). With the new map rewards, I speculate this farm is gonna die down as it no longer maintains a high reward/hour ratio. Maybe the Orr farm will come back more strongly than ever with Charged Lodestone and Giant Eyes are in the loot table now. Who knows…

This is not how econemy works sry.
Money (of any kind), and in gw2 that is gold only have a value due to what you can get for said gold.

So, by lovering the gold from dungeons and making more people do SW or other farms that mainly provide materials, then that simply mean that the value of gold will go up compered to what we can buy for said gold (deflation). This is the opposit of what we have mainly been seeing (inflation). Now I am going to assume that Anet have some numbers to support this change and that they simply want to reduse the inflation that we have seen so far, but.. the track record of anet is sadly not giving me a lot of hope.

Beisde the economic part of this, I am still sad that they really seem to want to stop us from doing dungeons. There is still so many things that people learn in dungeons and that they rarely or never use in PvP/WvW or open PvE about skills/team play and other things. I fear this will make it even harder for new players to do fractals/raids, since they nolonger will learn about skills in dungeons first

me and a guildy make a lfg, something like “full run, full pull”, assuming that if a pug know what full pull is and dont die, then he is better then 90% of other pugs… :/

Well, I am on guard, my guildy on war, and a war+ranger join us (from same guild), then a thief. No ele in party?, whatever.

So we do full pull, abit slow killing the mobs, but okay whatever noone die and all is good.

npc start her LONG.. SLOW.. run and while we wait for her, my guildy ask (I think politely) “hi mr. war, are you running ps?” (no reason for them both to do so).. no respons

We keep waiting for the npc to run run talk talk and then war wakes up and say “I dont know what PS is”.. okay.. well he is only 1500-2000 Ap. Npn I type what it is and my guildy say "np, I am, so I will take care of the might stuff.

Npc FINALLY stop talking and let us pick path, we run in and kill, np and we run to the golems, wp coming up, people wp and golems die fast. and war comment “they died fast”, so all is good, or so I think.

I jump lasers, my guildy die in first jump (is late), other 3 also die. they all take the wp and war type “meta wannabees but no skill. f.. noobs” and leave.. shortly after followed by his guildy.

Rest of us going… ??? :o

The word is SCALING

Before we know how the staff/druid scale with power and healing power (on the different skills) we know nothing. If "good healing skill xx) scale porly with healing power, and have a big base heal then we dont need/want to healing power in the build, and can go full dmg or tank (depending on choise).
On the other hand the base heal is low and it scale hard with healing power, then we want max? healing power in the build and less dmg/tank.

And the same go for the dmg skills.

Unless I missed it, they did not mention what amylet they used during the stream so we dont really know anything yet.

lol so hard, great vid 10/10

tbh I think to best to take away from this is how bad tanking in gw2 really is. This is a war (tanky’est class) in tank gear and its only a lvl 9 fractal. And still, when mossman turn at 20 or so %, its close to a 1 hit and dead (exaggerating abit). This really show of why tanking (as in facetanking) dont work, and why aegis/block/evade/dodge/max melee range etc are compared.

Looking at the other profession’s more common used healing skills, you definitely notice a trend on what gets used and why.

Warrior, strong passive healing, no need to cast
Elementalist, semi passive healing, lots of other sources of healing, no need to cast
Thief, instant cast, short cooldown
Engineer, can quickly cast and combo off of, low cooldown.
Right now it’s definitely seems like the more common heals in the game are the ones that give an instant or safe return, which for the guardian is the blocks

Only sad part is how do you design future healing skills that people would want to take?
At this point it just seem like any healing they come up with by default wouldn’t hold up to shelter.

Just again want to point out the importence of remembering to mention if we are talking PvP, open PvE, closed PvE or WvW (I assume yours is about PvP).

Lets take the skall classes for closed PvE (open PvE is another story).

Warrior, signet = press it before the fight start for more dmg (war dont have a heal during a fight unless its a LONG fight)
Elementalist, Arcane = press it before the fight start for more dmg (ele dont have a heal during a fight unless its a LONG fight, or the use water)
Thief, several good options, but mainly Deception = press it before the fight start for more dmg. OR Signet, no need to cast.
Engineer, Turret = press it before the fight start for more dmg.
etc.

What changes to the other heal would have to be made before you would want to use them?

hmm hard to say, since the block is so strong, but first we need to decide WHERE we are looking, PvP, open PvE, closed PvE or WvW since all 4 have different requirements (a block is always nice, but it will also have more value some places then others and the same will other things).

Lets take Open and closed PvE and look at “Receive the Light”, 2.25 sec casting time is.. so long that I dont even know how to.. and it only heal allies in front of you.. in front of the guard, so the guard is standing behind his melee allies and is ranged??? what? The skill just dont make sence at all. Now if it was an aoe heal (or even if the come was 180degree behind you, that might work, but it either need to bring something extra like a condi clean or protection or something and the casting time need to be 1.5 sec max. with all this… I might consider it, only might.

To talk about all the healing skills and in all formats, well that become a novel, so another time

your shouts are for early team support, 10 second ticks are good for the long fight.Eityher way, the five people who youd be helping wouldnt benifit if they were against 30 people anyways. Against 30 people, who lives through that? Also, who gets hit by theworld boss hits? Like, really?

I think you missed my point.

PvE: If you dont get hit by the boss, then you dont need a heal, and if you do get hit, you are dead and cant use a heal, so no reason for full heal or for huge heal every 10 sec. Better with a more often but smaller heal and aegis/something when pressing it.

WvW: in fights 20vs20 or 30vs30 or 40vs40, you need a block/invuln when the 20 man consentrated AOE hit you, a full heal is worthless. And for the poke phase of the fight, again you dont need a huge heal every 10 sec, you need smaller and more often heals.

As it is now, the signet is not even worth considering in WvW or PvE. And on top af that, it is competing with one of the strongest elite skills in the game Feel my Wrath, and the all time favorite Reneved focus. Its just not a hard choice.

well, a full heal is nothing to scoff at… It works really well if you take sanctuary and maybe hold the line, and that works really well because of the amount of bursts that get wasted on you. I run signet of courage in sPvP alll the time, you just need to build utilities around it. It has no place in a non-tanky build anyways, because even w/sanctuary up you will still get hit by cleaves, aoe’s, and offensive shouts, so you will need to survive those in order to get it off anyways

that might work in PvP, but that is due to PvP being very low to dmg compared to PvE and WvW.

A boss in PvE might hit you for 40k (even on full soldier armor/tinkets), so you dont need full heal or big heals every 10 sec. But small and more often heals will help you to stay over the 90% (scholar buff) even if you take some poisen/burn dmg from some aoe attack.

In WvW you will often get hit by 30 players at the same time, here invuln/block works, but again a full heal is worthless and again the long between massive heals are useless to counter the pokes from enemys ranged players. And again and more constant (but lover) heal will have an effect.

I did a 50 frac a few days ago, late night and just chilling, so I start it, find swamp and make lfg “lvl 50, swamp ready”, nothing fancy.

a guildy (thief) join me, then a pug war, my guildy go afk a sec.

Then another pug join, a necro and ask “ok if I join”, I am about to reply sure when I just happen to mouse over his name in top/left corner and see.. 700 AP… hmm

Now we all know that the 10k AP or kick lfg are bull, but 700..

So I ask in party chat if he have 70 AR, and he reply “I dont know”, now I am pretty sure he is new to the game and that he will just die instantly and not really have a fun time, so I tell him that lvl 50 frac’s are hard content (well in gw2 atleast) and that he need 70 AR to join, so he reply with a “:(” and leave :/

I then whisper him with a “if you are new to fractals then I can help you after this run and we can do a lvl 1-9 toghether”.. no reply..

I come away feeling a little bad, since he was clearly new to the game and he might think we did not want him due to him being a necro but.. what to do..

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Sigfodr.9576

as a casual I can’t play how I want: I enjoy condition builds and I want to run 2-3 dungeons / day.
Can I join with a condi ranger? no, I usually get insta kicked.
Condi thief? no, it’s pretty bad and cannot kill objects fast enough.

Outside of the META there are not many options available for a player that wants to pug.

lately most groups ask for 2x ele anyway, so yeah… balance all the way.

I used to 8-15 dungeon runs pr. day (have not done that many the last month for rl reasons), and did 2 kinds of runs.

1) lgf deskriptions like, “P1” “full run” “all welcome” etc. and from this kind of party’s I have NEVER seen anyone being kicked for running a non optimal setup. (I have seen people kicked for actick racist etc in party chat, or for dc’s that lasted 5+ min. or for simelar things but I dont think that is what we are talking about here)

2) lfg deskriptions like, “Full run, ZERKER” “P1 meta” etc. and in this kind of groups I have several times seen people getting kicked before the run/on join or evn up to about 25% into the run for running pure staff guard, staff mesmer, scepter necro etc.

Imo both are fair, if you join a party with a “80, ZERK” deskription and dont run zerk, then naturally you will get kicked, but then again why are you joining? Even if it is silly to kick a good player for running a non optimal dmg build. If someone make a lfg with that kind of deskription, then respect the choice they have made and dont join..

And now someone will naturally say that I am a elitist or some other word, and I really dont care, I believe it is a game and I also believe that there is no reason to strip others of whatever part of said game they find injoyable.
it being running meta speedruns, semi zerk runs or ultra non meta runs, find likeminded people by using lfg.. its easy.

My take on Dungeons

in Necromancer

Posted by: Sigfodr.9576

Sigfodr.9576

I believe dungeons themselves operate fine as they are, I am just waiting for content that you CAN’T run zerk. I would love to see a 25% damage increase (direct and conditions) for mobs and also a way for them to reveal you in stealth. Cut the skipping bs, and make fights challenging enough you can’t burst everything down while stacking in a corner. Make mobs hit hard enough you actually consider throwing some vit/tough/healing in the mix

It seems (to me atleast) that it is a commen misunderstanding, that harder hitting mobs will result in players going for more vita/tough/healing. This is however not the case, even normal mobs in lvl 50 fractals, or elites in arah will 1 shot full zerker players. And this do not make people want to bring more vita/tough, and back when fractals went all the way to lvl 100 and the mobs was hitting even harder, this to did not make people want the protection. Why? well the reason is simple, people realised that if you get 1 shot if you come on full zerk, and 1 shot if you come on full soldier, then why come on soldier? better to come full zerk and kill faster = have aegis/other blocks up in a higher procentages of the fight.

The simple thing is that a 10 sec long fight is always safer then a 1 min. long fight, shorter time to make mistakes and better uptime on aegis/distortion etc.

If you want to solve this, then the solution is not harder hitting mobs, but mobs that hit more often but less hard, if you can live after getting hit and cant use aegis/etc to protect you from all the hits, then you will start thinking of healing/protection buff/vita/though etc.

But all this was not really what the OP was talking about, so sry for changing the subject ^^

in Guardian

From a closed PvE view (dungeons/fractals), the 2 main things dragging hammer down is the light field on AA (ohh god WHY anet.. just WHY) and the low dmg.

Making AA nr. 3 casting time faster will help on the dmg, since about 50% of the AA dmg come from the field, and having to wait 3? sec for this to kick in is ALONG time in dungeons/fractals.

The light field problem… someone need to hit someone at anet hard and make them change this (or better make light fields worth bringing).

As it is now, hammer is sadly not a weapon worth it for closed PvE concent, unless we are talking lvl 50 fracs and you are in a really bad pug group.

Any viable condi or MM builds for PVE?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Sigfodr.9576

Sigfodr.9576

Both power build, the Dagger or DS are both okay good for dungeons, abit low on dmg for a dmg build and necro is abit low on control and support skill compared to the control/support classes. So yes, necro is generally not the best choise for dungeons/fractals (but not that bad either). For open PvE either power build will do well.

Condi build, this dont work for dungeons sry, necro condi builds mainly focus on bleed and that is to slow a dmg buildup for dungeons and fractals. For open world PvE it work fine and for SW or Tri-wurm (husk control) its even good. For alot of world bosses it is abit lacking though. There are several good condi build: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vRAQNArYWjc0QjNWdDe3A/NO+FKaW8FDL8LDgPI20PQFA-ThyCABNqEEgDBgCnAAnV+d8DAgZ1fEaJgJOCA6tBwMrAAA-e
The 3 different runes show some options (Aristocrazy is what I like the best). And Rabid or rampager can both work if you dont want to use Sinister, you are going to loose alot of dmg though). The sigils is just to show some good options.

MM. I have never seen a good MM build, sry. or seen a place where MM is not just irretating, AI-control is just…. but there is alays a chance you will like it

ohh and a TANKY option for a condi build is something like: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vRAQNArYWjc0QjNWdDe3A/NO+FKZU/0TN8LDgPI20PQFA-TByCABAcIAU4EAc8DAALlfCt/wlq/MxRAYMlgAA-e

For PvE, Both condi and power ranger have spirits in the dps build, both frost and sun spirit is huge dps gains for the party (for both builds), though a power ranger sometimes drop the sun spirit for another utility.

From a PvE perspective, the other spirits are kinda useless and I dont think I have ever had a place/situration where 1 of them was worth it.

ohh and in PvE we dont trait our spirits, no reason to give them more hp (placement) and we do not want them to be following us either (then we cant melee without having spirits die’ing around us). A shorhter cd when the active is used, that be nice. So you are sure to have both spirits ready for the next fight.

To avoid any possible misunderstandings.
Are you refering to Condition damage Sun spirit, or Zerk one?

I believe either is able to part of a party if that is what you mean.

If you mean the trait, Zephyrs speed, then thats a zerker. so 3 sec less quicknes for the sinister build.

The guard, well both.

ohh and a small thing (not related to the quote from you), some people seem to have the false ideer that having quicknes make you do 50% more dmg (while you have it), this is however not true (as a general rule), the reason is that quickness “only” make you do an attack 50% faster, but do not make your cooldowns faster and this mean that some of the time will be used “waiting” for cd’s and “only” AA’ing. Dont misunderstand me, quicness is super cool and huge dps gain, but not quite 50%.
: Tragic Positive Plus, sun spirit only rarely provides better DPS than Quickening Zephyr.
You know, it’s exactly quickness that raises your DPS by 50%. If the fight lasts for like 40 seconds – yes, you’d be correct. But for most of the engages I experience (Dungeons, Open World, Fractal mobs AND bosses) the boss goes down through the most difficult phase (or die straight) in a matter of 10-20 seconds.
And no, Sun Spirit doesn’t overDPS personal quickness if you don’t have any condition damage. Not even with might.

Burst > DPS. Burst is going to leave raw DPS far behind if the boss is already dead for DPS to take place. That’s why Icebow rules the PvE.
My english is not the best, so I apologize for any misunderstandigs that might occur.
I do however believe that I mention that my statements was for party scenarios, this naturally mean several things:
1) You have a guard and therefore min. 5 sec or quicnes already, add to that the 3 sec of personal quicnes from Zephyrs speed, and then you are at min. 8 sec., so that was already full quicness during all the short fights. In case you run mesmer and not guard, then yes, you will be short on quicness.

The dmg from sunspirit 5 people * 2 triggers + Solar flare is alot of burst dmg (notice that the main part come within the first 1 sec of the fight).

About my numbers, I refer to , and you are naturally always welcome to do them yourself, just remeber to take cast time/food buffs etc into account

Okay, seem not many do the math on this (I understand), so it is understanderble that many dont know the effectiveness of different skill here after the burn changes. Well, here is a few surprising? facts

Assuming that its a party scenario (dungeon/fractal/5 man party in open world wherever), Frost spirit out dmg sunspirit by alot in a full power group, and even in a Sinister party frost spirit is not bad.

Spotter out dmg barbed wire in both full zerker party’s, AND in full sinister party’s.

Sunspirit out dmg both Quickening zephyr and “sick em” in both full power and full sinister party’s (more in sinister party’s naturally).

The way to use sun spirit is to use Solar Flare as soon as the mob/boss become “red”, this will give you the 3 stacks of burning from Solar Flare and 2*applications of the Burn pr. party member. This is due to the fact that sun spirit keep appli’ing the effect during its death animation and this take 12-15 sec’s, so that is 12-15 sec’s for your party to kill the boss before you loose the effect. And as a added bonus at also mean that the cd on your spirit is redused.

To sum up, you want to bring frost spirit, sun spirit and spotter for any party, nomatter if you/the party is full power or condi.

This only applies to PvE it doesn’t bring the best out of the combat system. There is no reason you don’t want to use DS vs players(PvP/WvW).

This is ganerally true, yes.

But since Open PvE is the main focus for the majorite of players this is still a main consern.

To be honest I will welcome anything that makes DS more viable in open PvE and or in dungeons. And this go for both power and condi builds btw.

Problem here is that we first need to decide for what and for where, PvP, WvW, open PvE or Dungeon. Is it Condi or power, or some kind of mix.

Why is this importent, well not all build benefit from LF (atleast not as DS is right now).

Lets take PvE (dungeons) as an ex. Power build with wells is the main playstyle, the max damage will here be to ignore DS completely and go full D/F and just AA, not very fun, granted but it works. So unless DS become worth using, then why even think about how to get LF.

Lets take another ex. Open PvE condi build, here scepter shine (well as good as condi necro can shine.. sad sad story), again this build only have 1 reason to use DS and thats as a last option “I need to run” safety net. Its lower dmg then just doing scepter rotation and dont really bring the benefits that makes it worth getting more/faster LF.

My point is mainly, I dont need LF untill there is a reason for me to go into DS and that reason is just not there atm for many builds.
