Old system: I would do the number of kills, gathering, etc while I was doing what was necessary for my character(s) to move forward (mapping, PS, LS, etc). While I was ACTIVELY PLAYING THE GAME in a way I liked to play it. Not at all spoonfed, on the contrary, making my way through Orr or Dry Top or Maelstrom.
New system: I have to waste 10-15 minutes to get back in a beginning area, where I have to view a vista that I had previously viewed (map completion doh) and it makes me feel bad for all the lower levels who are desperately trying to accomplish something in that map.And yes, I know perfectly what I’m talking about: take the assault on Nebo terrace for example. I just happen to be leveling a new Guardian and she was in that map. The event got so upscaled due to the hordes of level 80s there that my poor level 34 couldn’t make one step without being killed. Change of tactics, switched to my level 80 necro. By the time I got there, the event was so upscaled that there were 3 champ tramplers per square pixel and a complete cacophony of light, skill effects, shouts, rallying and dead players and still couldn’t do much because of how upscaled it was so the event failed.
Tbh, this whole thing of “go in THAT specific map do to this specific thing” is a control issue syndrome. When before we could do that specific thing no matter where we were, does it make sense to you to force you to go back to a lower level map? Nobody gets the “control freak” hint at all? Does it feel good to be told “sit” and “stay” after you paid money to play a game the way it would be enjoyable for you?
No part of the daily is required for you to do any other content in game. They are 100% optional. Whining about being told what to do in order to get a specific reward in a video game is just silly. Itd be like whining that needing do dungeons to get dungeon armor is also the devs “controlling you”.
Also, like the other 50 people in this thread have said, you should have just skipped the event and crafted an essence of luck which wouldnt take more than 30s. And if people didnt know how to do that, making a thread asking for advice would still take a lot less time than these posts take to write.
I’ve been using d/f fresh air with great success. Not popular at all but in my opinion it’s the next best build after d/d cele. Like s/f just better. Just started using it about a week ago.
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-k3c;2B2kT0-5gNkY0;9;5T9-T;139B5;317AIN0;3Ewk2Ewk25f
Is one with air a mistake or do you actually use that?
Not sure about the points in water/arcane, I never run without them on s/f, but if youre going to be melee then it will be even harder to burst down all the cele specced people out there, so it could be an option to go all jihad glass spec and try to burst them before they see it coming. I doubt you could compete with glass thieves/mesmers in any serious matches, but in practice/unranked it could work. Otherwise the build you linked is solid, some prefer EA over cleansing wave but its mostly up to personal preference. Youll have a hard time either way, but with the defensive points you could reset some fights instead of having to respawn all the time.
Also if you cant get it to work it might be interesting to try something like that with d/f, you have more cc to go with lightning rod and earth 4+5 are awesome and more than make up for losing fire grab (which barely hits most of the time anyways). It would be interesting to see if a 0/6/5/3/1 spec could work with d/f and lightning rod, again probably not in ranked but itd be funny in hotjoins
This thread is a lie. I skipped one daily and when I logged in the next day and not only were all of my characters were deleted and my account banned, but my identity was stolen and all my credit cards hacked so I could no longer even purchase another copy of the game (and a dev came to my house and stole the money from my sock drawer so I couldnt even buy one with cash).
Beware.
I’d like to point out that there is a potential for profit with a big prize pool. Let’s say (hypothetically speaking) they organize a big GW2 tournament with a 2 million $ prizepool and another 500.000$ in additional expenses (like advertising), so costing them 2.5m$ total. With some good advertising a tournament with a 2m$ prizepool is definitely going to get a lot of attention in the gaming world. GW2 currently costs 50$ I think. So if the popularity gained from that big prizepool leads to 50.000 copies of GW2 sold after the tournament (in addition to the amount of copies they would normally sell) they will make a profit. 50.000 really isn’t impossible to reach. Take for example another popular MMORPG with a PvP scene that everyone knows: WoW. I don’t know the exact numbers but they have millions of active players. a 2m$ tournament is bound to persuade at least 50.000 of them to buy GW2 and try it out. So essentially what I’m saying is that a tournament with a big prizepool can be a great investment for Anet
The problem is this game is boring as kitten to watch and incredibly hard to follow if you dont know what to look for. Plus the pvp is hard to get into for new players, which makes it harder for people who do buy it to tell their friends to do the same. 500k in advertising (pretty sure itd be a lot more than that too) might bring in a few new players, but I doubt it would be anywhere near 50k.
Then again, the friends I know who play smite have the attention span of my cat, so the fact that we dont have massive tournaments designed to appeal to that kind of person won’t make me lose any sleep.
So a question to everyone that likes the new dailies.. Is there no compromise? Cause you guys like it that makes it the only way, the best way? Get the kitten out of here. People are posting here to let Anet know of their complaints, its a completely valid argument here with the new dailies. There are changes that can be made to make both sides happy. There are a lot of good suggestions here in the midst of all the QQing.
And if you dont like it, it should be removed and the old system brought back? Cause you guys that dont like it removing it is the only way. Is that your point? (by the way, there are threads filled with positive suggestions, but they keep getting moved to page 2 because everyone is just posting complaints in here).
Anyway this is probably due to the fact that all the “changes” people who want the old dailies suggest are pretty much to bring the old dailies back. If your compromise is to change the new dailies things like “get 20 kills” and “dodge 15 times” and “do any 5 events anywhere”, then thats a valid opinion, but many of us dont see the point of counting that as an ACHIEVEMENT. Many people would agree that having more than 4 daily options available is a good thing, as long as they are still some kind of ACHIEVEMENT, not just being handed something for nothing (which you still get from the daily log in).
Along with this, 2 other pieces of feedback. One being that having daily fractal and daily scale 1-10 fractal on the same day is just silly, and hopefully an oversight. Second is that while having 2 fractal achieves at once is annoying, I love the new system during holidays. I didnt have 30+ minutes that it would have taken to do the dailies in the old system, but i was able to spend a minute just to log on, which was great because I wont lose the laurels I need badly for them alts.
More evidence that longbow rangers are OP, ANET NERF THEM ASAP.
But seriously, with that many bags you probably add up to a 1% chance of getting a precursor, so good luck.
I dunno, compared to such shops in other games like WoW, AA, Tera, shop in GW2 certainly is NOT lacking anything at all, quiet opposite actually, it’s far ahead of those in other games. They’ve been focusing on it quiet hard lately, you know.
The only cash shops I remember recently are archage and rift, and even a months after launch both of them had WAY more stuff in the cash shop, and it was both cosmetic and p2w (like actual pw2, not fake pw2 like the watchwork picks that people kitten about here).
I’m not suggesting they immediately put more time into gemstore items (though some new medium armor skins that dont suck would be nice), but they definitely seem to be lacking. Contrary to all the people who scream that the only thing anet does is make gem store items, there really isnt that much in it.
we need flying content. give us wings and let us combat in the air.
flying is similar to swimming anyway. Mechanic wise. So just copy underwater combat to aerial combat.
Please be joking.
instead of swimming motion, change to flying motion.
instead of water and coral around you change to cloud and rain drop.
should be perfectly easy to implement.
no. there would have to be flying mounts for that, or an extremely revolutionary invention allowing ZeroG. there’d be all sorts of issues about propulsion and drag, etc. plus would need all sorts of new moves and mechanics involved. would also utterly destroy wvw as it is now, as well as unbalance pve.
this topic remains what it is, a request for official information about Underwater Content from ANet.
We have cloth aquabreathers that allow us to stay underwater for days at a time, not to mention invisible pressure suits that allow us to go down 1000 feet and back up in seconds without getting the bends. Plus all the other ridiculous tech the asura have made. Pretty sure reality isnt an issue in this game.
But since underwater combat is basically ignored at this point (removed from pvp/wvw, underwater weapons excluded from new skins, ect.), I dont think we’ll get to fly anytime soon.
If you are not doing wvw then there is pretty much zero difference between the server youre on due to the megaserver system. As to why thats the case then you can read the old patch notes or look on the wiki, but if you arent doing wvw then don’t waste your money on a transfer.
Depends if you play the classes that use the legendary a lot AND if you like the animations, if not then dont bother. It seems obvious, but there are plenty of people who rush to get the “best” items in game, and then quit 2 days later because they dont actually like playing the game. I made a bifrost for my ele, which is great (and stat switching is awesome), but for the scepter/focus/dagger I stuck to bltc weapons, which are 1/20th the price and way less stressful to work towards (plus meteorlogicus is just ridiculous looking).
Also depends on your playstyle. Are you someone that can put 10 hours into a game per week for 8 months, or do you do 40 hours a week for 2 months? If its a long term goal its a lot more reasonable, the laurels from the daily log in rewards can get you a huge chunk of the t6 mats, you can do teq at reset every day for the karma (plus the pvp dailies can get you mystic clovers on certain reward tracks), and the rest is just gold for the precursor and the other junk. If you do it all in 2 months its doable, but again, if farming champs 8 hours a day gets you so irritated you quit the game a week later, it kind of defeats the point.
That or just get a part time job. $10 is like 80 gold, so for the most expensive legendary thats like 4 weeks of 12 hours per week, which even a 16 year old can pull off. People say that defeats the point, which is kind of true, but once you equip it there is zero difference a legendary you bought with gems and one that you got by farming champs hitting 111111111.
My 6/2/6/0/0 glass cannon diamond skin ele (thats 0 points in the healing/boon duration trees for people not familiar with the class) doesnt get a lot out of healing power and boon duration either, so can we get a buff too? Also my 30/10/0/0/30 static discharge engy has the same problems, so can that spec get a buff too?
K thanks.
Play all of them. Staff, d/d, s/f, and d/f (s/d isnt used much, but you can try it too). Staff is probably the “easiest”, but all sets are used for something endgame, and you dont want to get there and have no idea what 3/4 of your weapon abilities do, especially when some skills (burning speed, dragons tooth, ect.) take a bit of getting used to. Also dont get used to camping 1 attunement. You can go from 1-80 with staff without leaving fire, but again, if you do that youll get to 80 and have no idea what the rest of your abilities are.
Also it sucks that you cant play around with traits as much now, as a lot of the ele grandmaster traits (fresh air/EA/persisting flames/ect.) are key in certain builds, but at least try to play around with adept/master traits as you go so you get used to those too.
+9000
I hate how instead of “play how you want”, it’s “here’s a list of how we want you to play and what we will reward you with if you do, now go play how you want”. That’s like telling a kid “if you eat your veggies you’ll get dessert”, then trying to use “but you didn’t have to eat your veggies” as an excuse for making someone eat them in the first place.
Every part of the game (and ever mmo ever made) requires you to do something specific in order to get some kind of reward/achievement. Not YOU pick the something you do AND then pick the reward you get.
You cant get wvw achievements from doing fractals. You cant get dungeon achievements from farming champ mobs in orr. You cant get LS achievements from jumping puzzles.
Why should you get daily achievements from doing only what YOU choose to do? (and “we got them for free before” isnt a good answer)
List of easiest classes in order:
1.) Ranger – Able to evade indefinitely while attacking with pet, plenty of “I screwed up buttons.” The easiest class in the game.
2.) Necromancer – Highest effective HP in the game, lots of “I screwed up buttons,” easy to land important things such as boon stripping and chain CC
3.) Guardian – Able to Block and Blind while attacking. DPS is very easy to land.
4.) Elementalist – Too many “I screwed up buttons” and mobility in some builds, too much sustain and skills are very easy to land.I’m not saying those classes are broken, I’m just saying they are easy and forgiving. Those four are the most beginner friendly classes in the game.
Mesmer is also easy once you understand how to count dodges. Not as easy as those four braindead classes above though. You could wait until Berserker Meta comes back again and you’ll see why Mesmer can be easy. Just not as much as those four that I mentioned.
Don’t bother with Warrior if you have a hard time landing important skills such as Earthshaker or Pin Down. Don’t bother with Thief if you have zero reaction time in dodging burst. Turret Engi is braindead but don’t bother with Engi builds that take skill if you can’t skill shot for jack.
Classes for when you are actually good at the game: Warrior, Engi, Thief, and maybe non-cheesy high risk high reward power Necro specs.
I’m assuming this is a troll (though maybe not?), since most people have listed war/engi as the easiest classes in game continually for the past year, but whatever. If anything, for a new player war/engi/ele/ranger are all in the same ballpark, as far as their easy specs go.
Anyway I wouldnt run turret engi unless its either your first week in game, or you are experienced and want to run it specifically as a decap build. Its works to learn the basics but after a week or two you want to move up to something else, otherwise you will become too dependent on ai, so even if you win all of your fights with turrets (which you wont) itd be better to start running another build after a while just to learn it.
I didnt play gw1 but this sounds like it could be a pretty cool feature, and with the megaserver i dont think itd be impossible to put in game.
Only thing I would suggest is instead of having to kill x mobs to spawn some champs, why not just use the event chains already in place (with improved ai/mechanics, not just billions of hp on every mob). Almost all zones have those “meta” event chains that people barely know about, mostly because the risk/reward is lower than anything else in game. Silverwastes is already an example of a zone with a good meta event+rewards and different ai mechanics, so all itd take is using those ideas on other maps and jacking up the difficulty.
That “shadow world” idea someone mentioned could also be really cool on some zones, and itd be awesome for keeping zones populated, though probably impossible to code (or maybe not?)
Id also suggest a gem store item to pay for it to cover the costs (as much as people hate paying for something that can give them hundreds of hours of entertainment, programmers need to eat too). Make it 400 (or 800) gems to access it a month, which im sure the serious players would be willing to pay for a challenge. Besides helping cover the cost of coding thatd keep the economy from crashing too much from the rewards, which would likewise have to be worth the cost (and guaranteed rewards, not just rng)
And so people dont rage too much you could put in an alternate gold sink to pay for it (even though gems are directly related to gold so a gem cost is a gold sink, people never seem to get that). Perhaps 125 ectos which is 40g (or 250/80g) which would double as a way to keep the ecto prices from going down from all the rares/exotics that drop. Im sure people would still rage, but again, programmers need to eat too.
Biggest downside i can see is if the rewards are THAT much better, then even if it is super hard people will still figure out how to farm it and every other “farm” in game will die (not exactly a bad thing, but still an issue). Some combination of daily lockouts and new skins + account bound rewards like the op suggested would help fix that (though for the people who want this and hate paying for anything ever, new skins = more development costs/time = less incentive for the devs to release it for free)
That or just save it for this mysterious expansion that may or may not be coming out sometime in the next 1-8 years.
If you don’t have an 80th level character on your account, you get Queensdale events instead of Southsun events. That’s a fact.
Hmm…. While I don’t like to get involved in these arguments, I couldn’t help but point out that my guild new members who are genuinely new to the game. None of them got this “Queensdale Event substitution” that you, refer to. Maybe they all bugged at once?
/Shrug.
I have an alt account without an 80 and it only gets low level zone dailies, and ive heard from others who have the same.
So it could definitely be a bug, considering how new this feature is. Have them report it and see what happens.
I like the zone grouping idea. Not like its difficult to do the dailies now, but having to warp around to 4 different zones for each one makes it a chore.
Only downside is it would flood those zones and people trying to do something else would have a hard time. Imagine trying to get a guild teq run or missions in one zone when every map has 100 people doing dailies. Though im sure someone can come up with a solution for that.
How about a new sigil that corrupts 1 boon, with priority given to might, on weapon swap or crit (id prefer swap since itd be less rng, but then again on crit would require people to not be full bunkers to get use out of it)
We already have transfer condition sigils so this cant be too big of a stretch
But if you bought 100 copies of the game, that would come out to 5500g per month! Genius
Anyone want to lend me $2500 so i can try that?
Half of the people on the forums complain that the game is too mindless and the devs are trying to hold everyones hand, while the other half is begging to be given more free stuff for doing nothing.
No wonder there are only like 2 devs that read the forums frequently.

achieve·ment
noun \?-?ch?v-m?nt\
: something that has been done or achieved through effort : a result of hard work
: the act of achieving something : the state or condition of having achieved or accomplished something
Full Definition of ACHIEVEMENT
1
: the act of achieving : accomplishment
2
a : a result gained by effort
b : a great or heroic deed
3
: the quality and quantity of a student’s work
I just keep coming back to it’s only for achievements. That’s it. If you don’t care about achievements, it shouldn’t matter at all. If you do care about them, it matters in the positive way. There’s no way you could have gotten 10 achievement points before without going much further out of your way.
What option was taken away exactly? The ability to get five achievement points in a shorter time or with less effort?
What do achievement points mean anyway? Why are they important? If they are important, why shouldn’t they require us to go out of our way?
Edit: Okay, I think I understand where we’re not connecting. I’m in no way saying that the old system was superior and should be returned. I’m saying that there’s no observable reason to continue to cull the number of options from which to choose our 3 dailies. Does that make more sense?
The number of dailies keeps diminishing, at least in the PvE category. Before April, we had something like 10-12 choices, just in PvE. I find it discomfiting that the variety is slowly being sapped out of things.
I don’t miss getting the points for each daily, I miss having a wider pool of options.
I… am kind of at a loss here. I honestly don’t know how to make this more clear. I will keep on trying, though.
Instead of doing 3 out of a choice of 4 dailies, give the game modes 6 each to choose the three from. 10 APs. Map specific, just like they are now. I just don’t like that wanting more options is being misappropriated as wanting stuff for nothing, or being unreasonable. It’s not unreasonable. We had it. Anet took it away, for no apparent reason.
I’m not making stuff up out of thin air. This is not the alleged “I want to stand in Divinity’s Reach and chat with my friends and be rewarded for it” thread. This is me going:
“Hey. We had more options, and now we don’t.”
It’s becoming narrow and linear, and that alarms me, personally.
You are wrong though, because you absolutely, positively did not have more options before.
If you were an ap hunter (and if youre not, then there is no point in complaining about this), then counting only the pve ones, you HAD to do 8 of the 8 daily achievements, many of which were just as specific as the ones we get now.
So before, do 8 specific dailies out of 8, get 8 ap (or 12 out of 12 if you wanted to get max). Now, do 3 out of 4, and get 10 ap, with zero need to do more to max out your ap/day. Not to mention that you dont have to go outside of one game mode to max your ap/day, which is also giving people MORE choice.
You can argue that before if you really didnt like 2 of the choices, you could still get 6 ap, but now if you dont like 2 of the choices, you dont have an option to get partial credit. But again, if youre an ap hunter, then before you would have gone out of your way to get all of them done no matter what, and if youre not an ap hunter, then again, this shouldnt be a concern, because other than ap, these dailies give nothing unique at all.
I cant think of any reason why more choices would be a BAD thing, especially with all the stuff in pve that could count towards it. Dungeons/fractals can easily be a guaranteed option each day, just like world bosses/events/gathering/kills/ect., which should be easy enough to add up to 6 options per day.
There is no excuse to not give more options in the future, just like the pvp/wvw ones could also use some work (the pvp class specific ones in particular are a terrible idea), so the system isnt perfect at all.
But the entire purpose of this thread is still misleading because, once again, you dont have less choices by any means now.
Why the hell is this thread even still going? Stop complaining about something so minimal, get this thread off the mainstream! >;/
Death by a thousand cuts. Many of us see it as part of a larger problem, and its the principle of the matter that bothers us.
And many people are just complaining because they dont understand the new system.
And many more people like the changes, or if they dont like them they still dont see this as anything close to the “larger problem”.
Youre entitled to your opinion but dont assume everyone else agrees and that the game should be molded around that.
Filling the forum with 1000 post whine threads whenever anything changes isnt a good thing for getting devs to pay more attention to community feedback.
Im almost certain that arcane power does in fact proc elem surge, ive seen a few niche roaming staff builds running it.
Its probably a really difficult build with only 1 stun break every 75s (60 if you drop blasting staff for the arcane cd trait), but thats the only time ive seen this skill being used
I wouldnt say im an expert, but thieves, mesmers and maybe d/d eles. All are very mobile which helps you control the side points while pugs 4v4 it out in mid, plus all are good in a 1v1 (or at least good enough to run away if youre outmatched). And thieves especially are good at outnumbering fights, like when that bearbow ranger insists on pushing far and starts dying to a war or a turret engi. Only downside is if you get on a 3 thief team you cant swap chars anymore, so in those cases the ele is less risky
If your team gets steamrolled at mid then youre better off on a necro or engy, but i guess it depends on who youre matched with. So the safest bet would have to be an ele, but really any class can do if you play well
I agree with you on this, but I had a very different experience in iron marches. I got on and found a decent sized zerg (20-30ish), and we did the 2 mordrem bosses, fire shaman, and the first mordrem again. Not going to say it was difficult by any means, but both mordrem bosses were downing and killing people, and fire shaman didnt seem to kill anyone but it took more effort from having to do all three phases. Whereas, the escort or kill X mobs events have the problems you describe no matter the # of people.
Better event scaling (and rewards) would be a huge improvement in this game. If only the people who designed silverwastes could go back in time and do all the other zones from the start (that zone gets zergy after a while too, but its a LOT better than the rest).
+1
Besides how terrible 5 guard v 5 guard pug matches would be, this is awful to players without extra character slots because if 2 of the dailies are classes you dont have then you have no way to get the daily achievement through pvp. Granted its not hard to go do 1 of the easy pve ones in 2 minutes, but still there should be a max of ONE class specific task per day (0 would be better)
Players: ‘Man, GW2 needs better rewards.’
ANet: Gives free login rewards
Players: Pout ‘I don’t want them for freeee, this is BS!’
Jesus H. Kitten. I just cannot with this post. I literally…cannot…even.
No, they have to be good rewards that you have to work for but without having to grind or do anything too difficult for (but not too easy either), and it has to give a sense of progression without being actual progression (gear grind is the biggest evil on earth), while bringing in new players and getting veteran players to return (so population is high), while appealing to pve/LS/wvw/pvp/dungeon/fractal fans, while also fitting into the lore, all while avoiding gemstore items as much as possible but without ever charging a subscription fee.
I dont see how doing that should be so difficult.
I dont get it. You can still play whatever content you like at whatever time you like. The game doesnt lock out specific areas until you complete dailies.
The only time in game you are forced to play something is the 5 minutes of the first story step on making a new character, and it probably took way longer than that to make this thread
If by “play how I want” means “play how I want and get all the specific rewards I want”, then this thread makes sense, but that has never been how this game was advertised or run
Might i suggest starting a private server on minecraft or something similar? That way you can set it up to give you the rewards you want for playing how you want.
mtpelion
“You don’t HAVE to do anything you don’t want to, these are just a carrot on a stick for people who are willing to do something they wouldn’t normally do.”If people wouldn’t normally do something it is because they don’t like doing that thing. Forcing them to do what they don’t like will definitely not make them want to stick around for a long time.
It’s not rocket science.
How are you being forced?
Obviously if you fail to do the dailies they start deleting your characters.
The rewards from those chests for people who are able to do dailies are simply so amazing that people who cant do them will be left behind and never able to catch up, and will thus delete their characters in shame.
I mean, one of them gave me TWENTY FIVE dragonite ore AND a tome of knowledge. How else are people supposed to get that kind of loot?
Before 12 dailies gave 1 ap each, or 1 ap/daily
Now 3 dailies give 10 ap, or 3.33 ap/daily
You are now getting over 200% more ap per daily
Math is hurd.
Also, to clear up some more misinformation, I just checked on a level 10 toon I have on a spare account. Queensdale event completer, kryta lumberer, and ascalon vista viewer. Which would take about 10 minutes, and is more than doable on a low level.
Reread the patch notes.
You did in fact get your daily done that morning before work, just by logging in. That reward chest that popped up is the same as your old daily, and gives mystic coins, laurels, xp books, and other stuff. Its just a different name, and its also a lot easier as you have to do absolutely nothing but log in.
What is now called dailies is a new type of reward that you dont need to do at all (unless your a serious AP hunter, but if you are then you should have enough 80’s to do them).
I dont get it. It seems like dailies are EASIER than before. Log in for 5 seconds, get a laurel, and log out. I doubt anyone got their dailies done in less time than that with the old system.
The new “dailies” is a completely different system with new rewards people weren’t getting before, so why should you be entitled to get more stuff with 0 effort?
I guess the new stuff being called dailies while the old dailies are now called log in rewards was too confusing to some people. This game really must have been too confusing before the NPE after all.
They really ought to explain it better in the patch notes if its so confusing, but i guess it will just take a few days for some people to get it.
So people who dont want to play in ranked arenas will basically have to suck it up and deal with this map permanently in the rotation? (not trying to whine, but seriously wondering if thats the case)
Well maybe if we get a 1000 post thread about how everyone hates courtyard (except the 1 person who always choses it and makes it pop), it will get removed by next december.
I agree, it should be changed so movement keys are tied to attunements. You can only use W in fire, S in water, A in air, and D in earth.
This should promote build diversity and make the game less confusing to new players.
Completely disagree. You say it will be a bad thing for “veteran” players and good for new ones, but it is the exact opposite. If youre a vet and you dont have map complete by now youre a pvp/wvw player and can do those dailies instead. Where if a new player has to go to an orr zone to do them they will be screwed.
The only change is you wont always be able to sit in one zone 24/7 getting your dailies done automatically while you farm the same content over and over. If anything this IS what people want, because plenty of people complain about this game being too mindless and simple.
You also quote people who complain about the same things but you ignore other recurring threads asking for dailies to be more meaningful, or for daily quests to be added, or whatever.
Whining that you will have to spend 5-10 minutes a day to get rewards in a progression based mmo (when you WILL still be getting rewards just from logging in now, but it will be from the new rewards instead of dailies) sounds a whole lot like complaining just for the sake of it. Having to spend 20+ hours doing difficult things to unlock traits on every alt is a bad thing, having to actually play the game to do dailies isnt even comparable.
Just so you know a laurel is worth about 1.5g if you buy the biggest crafting bags and sell the mats inside. So if you ever did have a choice of spending 30 laurels or 10 gold (assuing you already have the bandit crests), you would still be way better off spending gold and using the laurels for other things.
If you are good at them you can run through like 12 of the short ones in under 30 minutes. Its not as much about difficulty as it is about time
The complicated ones (like the new one) this would work for since they can take anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour, so it would be nice to see some rewards for those.
I never got where the whole gamers sense of entitlement came from in the last few years. It went from every game having a sub, to people expecting their games to be free while also giving continuous updates for years (not to mention server hosting, support, advertising, ect.), and going up in arms if they companies try to charge them anything at all.
Seriously people, at the absolute lowest wage in the US, 15 bucks is 2 hours of a part time job per month. If you cant pay that to support a hobby that can take up 100 hours a month, then somethings wrong or youre under the age of 13 (and if you are just get good at begging your parents for it)
The game is owned by a publicly traded company and its goal is to maximize profits (as much as people seem to believe, its not a non-profit). If player retention isnt helping that because there is no sub, then it makes zero business sense to focus on that instead of microtransactions and small content updates.
So you can complain about not wanting to ever pay a sub fee, or you can complain about a lack of content, but if you complain about both at the same time then you need to take an econ 101 class or something
Ele condi damage in pve is actually really solid.
As long as youre solo. As soon as you get in a group it becomes a million times better to run other builds
A 6/2/6/0/0 (or 6/0/6/0/2) build with rabid gear and givers weapons can get you to 100% condi duration, so between scepter earth 1 and signets you can keep up perma burning and 25 stacks of bleeds. Main downside is a lack of aoe, but glyph of storms helps this a little bit.
Its not exciting but if you want to solo a dungeon or something it works. Its also good in the new zones because there are mobs with high armor that are weak to condis.
Pretty cool puzzle, and the teleports + auto rez made it so much less frustrating to do than it would have been.
The downside is that the rewards are almost nothing, so I dont see any reason to ever do it twice unless you really like the scenery.
Also is that dowsing rod supposed to do anything at all?
If you do everything its probably about an hour to do the story, another hour for the achievements, and a few hours (lets say 2) to do whatever achievements/events in the new zones that came out with each chapter. You could argue that only the first hour doing the story for the first time is the only new “content” if youre not interested in doing any other stuff, but other people are and its content to them
Thats 32 hours of stuff to do over 4 months, not counting the gap between seasons. Not to be a white night (unskippable dialogue is the worst idea ever, and the stealth is pretty terrible too, so this is a pretty mediocre episode overall) but thats not bad of a rate, considering the team working on this stuff is what, 20 people.
Skyrim expansions had like 8 hours of content at most and it wasnt even free, and probably took 4 months to make. If you want more content and less frequent patches then just log in every 6 months, spend a few weeks doing everything, and then take another break.
Gemstore is where all the money comes from currently. Usually the people who are the most vocal on forums like this are also people who are the most hardcore type of players. As the average casual player who plays 2 hours/day prolly won’t consume the content anet delivers faster than they create it. Hardcore players are also the one spending the most money in gemstore. If they announce a huge expansion/content patch now regardless of if it’s free or not, I’m willing to be a large part of the people regularly buying gem is going to put the game down until it comes out and thus no longer generating revenue.
Your analysis isnt bad except for this. There is no evidence that the hardcore players/forum posters (who constantly ask for an expansion on the forums while getting kittened off whenever something new is added to the gem store) are the ones who buy a majority of the gems.
Id be willing to bet a lot that the people who dont post on the forums make up an overwhelming majority of gem purchases.
If this can be used as an excuse to kill of braham and replace him with someone that isnt a whiny teenager whose done twice as many steroids as barry bonds did in his entire life, then I second this.
Nothing makes this game harder to take seriously than him.
Trolls on the internet troll someone, they fall for it, and it causes them to get mad.
More news at 11.
The fact that the pro’s have about 3-4 lines and the con’s have about 10-20 lines kind of makes it hard to say this thread gives an objective summary to these topics.
And you probably should change the title from “commonly discussed topics” to “topics I am tired of hearing about and disagree with”, because there are plenty of other topics that are frequently discussed.
If someone thinks these things (most of which I disagree with as well) are all that is discussed about this game then they would get the wrong impression quickly.
Otherwise it was nicely summarized.
A blast finisher every 4s in a weapon set that already has 3 fields would be awesome but way too much. If it did get one the cd would have to be at least 10s, just so people dont just camp water chain blasting their own fields, but id be against that too. Too much synergy between blasts/fields in the same attunement would reduce the incentive to swap attunements correctly to pull off combos which really dumbs down the class imo (fire camping eles in pve are boring enough).
Id love another blast finisher on staff more than anything, but not sure how it could fit in, maybe one in air, or maybe an instant one in earth so you can put down a fire/water field and swap to earth to blast without waiting for eruption to finally finish. It is odd that staff is the support weapon but has only 1 blast while d/d and s/f have 3 or 4.
If anything the idea of a staff ele being a master of combo fields/blasts is weak not only because of a lack of blasts but also from fields being mediocre. Whens the last time someone won a team fight in a pvp match because of a perfectly timed water field coordinated with allies blasting it? (i’m sure this happens, but it cant be that common). This is more of a general rant than just for staff eles, but i always found it odd that this game has the whole complex combo field mechanic and its barely a factor in pvp other than people blasting their own fields (usually eles/wars blasting fire fields or healing turret)
