As terrible as this angry rant is (like really terrible, besides being angry its not even entertaining, 2/10 at most), I do agree that its ridiculous to not have a system to save your spot in the map when you DC.

On teq it doesnt matter that much since its only 1 event, but in SW its just terrible. Really hope the new maps have a way to save your spot (and I know you can by being in a party, but thats not the point).

Pro tip: The achievements from the first 4 parts of LS season 2 give nomads accessories. (and if theyre too hard you can always get someone in lfg to help you, there are still nice people out there who would). Throw one or two of those in and you will more than make up for any stat loss.

If that is too much time, one of the temples in orr (I think its balth) sells exotic soldiers gear for 40k karma, itll be 10% less stats than ascended but if you arent doing fractals it wont be a big deal, and you can always save up laurels to get an ascended version in the future.

8. Content only a minority can complete? This is in different theoretical territory as now we’re talking about resources. Development time and money can only be allocated finitely so my thoughts on this is mixed.

This is the most important point right here. Difficult content would be great for people who like it (I know I would), but not for everyone else, and as much as people think 100 posts in a thread is representative of average players, I doubt thats true, since the people who dont want this kind of content are exactly the people who avoid the forums.

Still, id be disappointed if there isnt “some” hard content in HOT, because its clear there are a decent % of people that want it. Not a hard mode for every part of the game (that would be awesome though) since anet is running a business and has to cater to the majority of their players, but at least something more than another fractal and some new rare drops with a .00001% chance to get them.

We knew about most of these trait changes weeks in advance. If you didnt read up on a game you spent $50 on its your fault, not theirs (the bugs and such are their fault, but going to assume those get fixed eventually). I dont love the changes completely, but again, we knew about almost all of them beforehand, so nothing changed.

If you want a game you can play for 10 years without having to change your playstyle, I suggest buying a good single player game and then turning off your modem.

Not trying to be a kitten, but literally every mmo out there (and every online game in general) changes from time to time. So if youre looking for games that wont change youre looking in the wrong place.

No. Build diversity =/= the max number of builds available no matter how crappy they are.

10000 possible builds with 3 viable ones is still less diversity than 1000 builds and 5 viable ones.

Imo the goal shouldnt be to give you the same condi duration as before, because it was seriously screwed up then (and still kind of is), like how food that gives a bonus to all conditions gives +40% while food that buffs one specific condition only gives 15% (runes make sense as they either give 10% to all durations or 45% to one, which is how food should work). I never thought you should be able to get 100% to all condis in the first place.

If this is addressed then obviously certain classes and builds would need rebalancing, but conditions already need a huge amount of rebalancing from the burn stacking changes and so on, seems like a good time to address this (will be disappointing if it isnt).

As far as unlocking stuff goes, this system is WAY better. I had alts that only had like 3 traits total unlocked before, and now they can get everything right away. So much better.

Still needs a lot of work as far as balance goes and the UI could be better. Also disappointing we only get 3 choices for adept/master traits, but maybe in the future there will be more (i doubt it though).

Also people need to stop using “we” when telling us their personal opinions. Unless you are literally the member of the royal family, please start using “I”.

Just going to add for the people without mesmer alts that they now have a gm trait that blinds on evade/block with a 10s cd PER ATTACKER (it also confuses which justifies the 10s cd).

So if anyone thought that per target cd’s were too difficult to code like I did before, theyre apparently not.

Also, going to add that I also think a five second cd would be fine for us, but again, only if it had a per target cd.

Gotta love how eles will always be cantrip forever. Not even because of how good they are, but because of how bad everything else is now.

But cantrips are like, the only stun breaks in game with a 75s cd, so they must be SUPER good to deserve a longer cd! Thats how it works, right?

If only they buffed map completion rewards too so they scale to your level and not the level of the zone this would be awesome.

Not that the point of playing has to be chasing a carrot 100% of the time, but it sure would be nice to be able to get more than 40 pieces of copper and 2 green items worth 1s from spending 2 hours finishing a zone.

Its disappointing that we only have 3 options for adept traits especially with the crummy fall damage ones, but at the same time a lot of awful traits got buffed, so I see a lot of new builds open up

But if you judge the merits of a game based on the statistical number of builds available, sure, this patch has less than before, so I guess its just not complex enough of a game for the OP. kitten , we sure are going to miss him, but I guess life will have to go on.

So no one has ever bought multiple games on steam and have them cost less combined a year later? Like honestly, this isnt new. Right now you can buy civ 5 complete for like $20 and it comes with expansions, so do all the people who bought the original game for $50 have a right to be kittened off because its cheaper now than what they paid?

I dont care if people are mad at anet or not (and like someone said its most likely some marketing manager at ncsoft, not the anet devs, that did this), but this is not a new marketing strategy, and every single developer out there does it (well again, their marketing team does), so get used to it or find some new hobbies imo.

I was going to freak out and demand new players buy the core game for $10 instead of getting it for $0 but then I saw I ate more than $10 worth of snacks in the time it took to make this post and I realized that amount of money isnt really worth whining over. But I have to whine about something to post on the forums so I guess it will be about people whining about the $10 I was going to whine about, which ill do as soon as I wash the cheetos dust off my keyboard and figure out a witty way to do so.

TLDR JUST BUY THE STUPID THING AND GET OVER IT. $50 IS LIKE 4 TRIPS TO BURGER KING AND THE XPAC WILL HAVE MORE CONTENT THAN THAT. NOT A LOT OF MONEY AT ALL.

Still no viable defensive options in fire/air/earth… check
Almost all builds still forced into arcane… check
Offensive water gm trait removed and earth minor damage reduction nerfed to make up for EA being made a minor (= even more reason to be forced into arcane) … check
Pvp “meta” virtually unchanged after 3+ years (well itll be 0/0/6/6/6 instead of 0/0/2/6/6, but still)… check
Every future balance change made around said meta build (guessing here, but who doesnt doubt this) … check

Oh joy, we are saved.

And no, this isnt a totally pessimistic post, i’ll still play my ele every day and enjoy it. But it wont be nearly as interesting as it could be if EA stayed as a gm and the other traits were balanced around that, instead of basically running the same exact builds post patch as we always have. Yawn.

Too sudden build up of LA

They missed a great opportunity with LA. Reconstruction should have started a year ago and have included participation from the players. Nothing big, just little side quests to go along side the living stories like “go recruit this engineer”, “build supply lines across Tyria”, “Help clean up this mess” and slowly rebuild. It would have been interactive and much more immersive than what we got.

It would also require much more coding and thus delayed the expansion.

Is it really that much more coding? It’s just a couple little quests, I’m sure a single competent coder could have done it in a week or two.

If a single coder could put out that much content in a week, no gaming company would have more than like 10 employees. But since most of them have 100+ I think its safe to assume that it would take way longer than that.

If people had a choice between devs designing quests to hunt down and kill dragon minions or to design quests to be a construction worker, I dont think many of them would choose the latter.

I for one am thrilled that my builds will be getting ripped to shreds (even though they probably wont be since players are whining so much devs are already reverting a bunch of changes, ie the EA thread in the ele forums and so on).

Nothing more boring than running the same 2-3 builds per class with the same abilities/weapons for 3+ years. Biggest downside is it will probably take a year to even out the pvp/wvw balance with the new builds, but its a worthy trade.

Im really hoping they go with the removal of boon/condi duration (and obviously balance around that).

Other than specific traits and runes that give a bonus to ONE condition/boon, it seems dumb to have one stat cover all of them (just like how silly it is to have some food give +15% to one duration and other food that gives +40% to all durations)

Yea there is the whole “But anet will lose money from people who buy 8 slot upgrades for all 64 of their characters!”, and that makes sense, but they also lose money from people who dont think its worth it to upgrade one character but would do so if it was acc wide

No idea which option would be more $$$ (probably the way it is now), but personally id vote for acc wide, even if its less revenue its more convenient which = happier players = more time logged in = more gem sales (thats how it works right?!?!)

An expansion is just around the corner…. what more could you ask for?

The living story really spoiled some people.

People need an expansion to play while they wait for the expansion to come out. Duh. Of course, they would need another expansion to play in the time it takes that intermediate expansion to come out, and before that happens they would need another expansion to give them something to do while they wait for that one, and so on and so forth until the time between expansions approaches zero and anet has to develop a new field of mathematics to find a way to release content before its been developed.

This. Something will have to be nerfed or moved around in exchange, so once again anyone not playing the d/d faceroll bunker build will be out of luck.

Though I guess moving from a 0/0/2/6/6 build to a 0/0/6/6/6 build is going to be too much for a lot of people, so maybe it is for the best, dont want to change a lot at once or all hell will break loose.

This entire game is designed around long duration CC and massive attacks with telegraphs (some of which arent as obvious as they should be) and dodges/blocks/ect. Some people like it and some dont, but it doesnt seem like anything is going to change so better get used to it.

Still, the only thing more annoying than getting hit with 3 5s kd’s in a row while your stunbreak is on a 16s cooldown are the forum warriors that always hop in to these kind of threads shouting “BUT U NOOB WHY DIDNT U JUST DODGE OR STABILITY THEN U DONT GET HIT L2P”.

If you want more gear diversity it would be better if some of the crappy runes were improved (a lot of them were, but tons of them still need work). Also some of the sigils that are impossible to get (lol generosity at 175g) should be made craftable or something, so people can actually use them.

If anything “ascended” happens to runes I hope it involves having multiple runes on the same gear and being able to swap between them while out of combat, but not runes with higher stats.

+1 to less outfits and more armor sets. Because besides it being good for the game, I know more people would buy them, probably for more gems (I wouldnt mind paying 1000 or 1200 for some of the good ones if you could actually mix and match pieces)

-1 to less gemstore items. Because while im sure the OP survives just fine on the allowance his parents give him, anet employees do not, so unless you agree with paying a monthly sub in exchange for getting rid of the gem store, its here to stay.

How the PvE dailies can be improved.

4 modes: WvW; sPvP; Persistent PvE; Dungeons/FotM

4 or 5 options in each category. Have generic and specific options in each. Complete three in a single mode or across modes to corral your AP.

Upside: Come a lot closer to pleasing everyone.
Downside: ANet has to let go of the idea of “enticing” players into stuff they don’t care about or actively dislike.
Potential upside to the downside: People who are kittened off about the “enticement,” and are just logging in to get the login chest might relax their anti-ANet stance and maybe play the game more.

This is how I thought it should always work

Dungeons and open world events are both technically “pve”, but theyre so different and attract such different players its silly to not have them separate.

Id even go farther and up it to 6 modes. Wvw, Spvp, dungeons, fractals, open world events (world bosses, sw, orr temples, ect.), map exploration (vistas, jumping puzzles, personal story, ect.)

This one time I made a legendary by actually playing the game instead of sitting in front of the TP all day long. It was pretty cool.

Serious question here, did you not reallocate your traits after an update? I dont know if any recent patches did this, but big balance changes sometimes will reset your traits and you might not have noticed.

The first part is better off in the support forum or just send in a ticket.

To answer the second part, yes you have to buy every trait (if you didnt unlock them before), and yes there are enough skill points available to do so, plus you can get more out of champ bags. However the expansion is going to change this all around, so unless you NEED those traits to play for the next 2-3 months, wait and save your gold/skill points til then.

Most of the responses in this thread are completely idiotic. There is nothing challenging in making you required to run certain traits or signets to run as fast as everyone else out of combat. All it adds is extra mouse clicks before and after every fight to swap in a utility (unless youre a mesmer), which is lame.

And please stop with the “omg u nubz just run traveler or speed runes its so ez” posts, people already know about those (I know, you arent the only one to read the wiki about speed buffs, what a shock!). Pointing out the ways you can get swiftness is not an argument against this change.

Being forced into running them or wasting a signet on a speed buff adds nothing to the game. Nothing. Make everyone move at the same rate ooc regardless of speed buffs, because if youre out of combat why the kitten should it matter. Seriously, this is way past due.

And if anyone cares to know (because I know people on the internet do that), I play an ele with traveler runes 90% of the time (mostly for the stats and boon duration), so this wouldnt affect me most of the time. But it would still be nice to be able to play my mesmer alt and be able to choose a build instead of being forced to run focus + centaur runes + mirror 24/7.

Almost every trait is being changed or moved around in some way and the changes arent even final yet, so its kind of pointless to talk about builds before the xpac happens (and btw, its not going to be a “nerf”, its just going to change builds around)

But for now you are prob better running 0/0/6/4/4 or 0/0/2/6/6 if you want to be tanky. The 4 in fire doesnt give you that much damage and you get more cleanses overall from cleansing wave (1 every 10s) than burning fire (3 every 40s)

Not sure if this is off topic, but since you mentioned all sci-fi/fantasy, id recommend A Fire Upon the Deep (by Vernor Vinge) or Speaker for the Dead (by Orson Scott Card) for some pretty interesting alien races that dont think quite like humans. You could also try Childhoods End (Arthur C. Clarke) or The Gods Themselves (Issac Asimov) for some classic ones.

Of course they take 500 page novels to develop the relationships between humans and aliens, which is difficult to work into a video game/movie (though im hoping speaker becomes a movie now that they did enders game, but who knows if it will happen), so you cant really blame the writers in this game for not going above and beyond common fantasy fiction.

Arena net isn’t or shouldn’t change the rules of the game just to suit you.

Its not about ele abilities not being affected by chills, its about our weapon swaps not being affected, which is how it works for other classes, so its more about the rules of the game actually applying correctly.

In Open World it’s pure hate. In dungeons people post LFGs with notes of what they want, people kick those who don’t fit those criteria, I don’t see a problem with that at all. People have the right to try to play with those they want to. But, Open world is designed such that you play with anyone and everyone. When the hate spikes up there it’s nothing but disappointing to me, as “dude deal with the situation, stop blaming others because you can’t overcome the situation” but that’s one of those issues with open world. The challenge becomes trying to fill a map with likeminded individuals who don’t suck the fun out of things. And it’s not really possible.

I take it you base this on whatever pug maps you hop into and have never been in a map organized by a specific guild? Because it definitely IS possible to fill a map with likeminded individuals, and people do it all the time. The only reason it isnt done more is that wurm is basically the only boss you need to do it on since VW and teq are easy enough to do with pugs (not exactly a bad thing, since even a handful of uncooperative players wont ruin the map for everyone, but it would be nice if VW was a little harder).

Same thing with dungeons. Join random groups and some of them will be filled with hateful trolls that yell at anyone not playing a warrior (warrior best dps111!), and some will be regular people that just want to play the game.

But seeing how the game is way more designed for open world content (see the 9000 threads about “How to fix the zerker meta” every day), and that way, way more people do it then dungeons (mostly guessing here), and that the devs are already giving info about world bosses, i wouldnt bet my money on any dungeons anytime soon.

Besides the solution to “open world content is too easy and pug friendly” shouldnt be to spend more time on dungeons (because this world totally needs another wow clone), it should be to do events right. And they better find a way to do it after 3 years, because otherwise this is going to be one boring xpac after like the first week.

How about a compromise? Have the devs make it so that one of the game modes (preferably one that is based on player versus player combat) gear is standardized so people who just bought the game have the same stats as vets. For the other game modes have gear matter since it will give people who want a little progression something to work towards, but dont have it count TOO much or it will be unfair (something between 4 and 6% would work!), and as a bonus have the gear sets good for several years so people dont have to grind a new set every month.

Sound fair?

The fundamentals of the game are not being changed at all. Power will still make abilities do more damage, condition damage will make your conditions do more damage, vitality will give you health, ect. Yea if you are running a really specific hybrid build you will have to change a few pieces of gear, but 95%+ of players will not need to.

Just because YOU think its reasonable it might not be, it could involve hundreds of hours of coding/testing (plus however many hours the support team spends on tickets for people who mess up their gear changes), and a lot of people would rather the devs spend time on something meaningful instead of appeasing a handful of people that think they are entitled to free gear for all their “hard work” every time there is a major patch.

Maybe im wrong and it would be an easy thing to code, if thats true I dont see a reason why not, but otherwise I doubt enough people need something like this to make it worth doing

If you’d have your 5 buffed rangers focus fire on the ele’s you would win in seconds…

  1. 5 stalkers f1 =>25 might
  2. 5 times ROA => fury /stability
  3. All just rapid fire 1 ele (~15k dmg) , from 1500 range, ele’s cannot counter. maybe some have reflect skills if so good thinking… all ele’s at 14k HP go down.
  4. just barrage ‘m to death, I’d like those mist forms scurry everywhere
  5. just rapid fire second time,
  6. done.

No need to ever be in range of the Ele’s.

Oh ignore frost spirit, it costs time, the added 10% is a waste. They’ll be dead anyways, 1 could take spotter of course, and you could exhaust their dodges if you wanted to…

Alternatively: Just by firing skill1: 3,5-4k dmg from max range tends to hurt. 5 times 3.5 is 17.5k

If this rapid fire doenst work out just focus them individually,

  1. Target #1 : 5 ppl focus: skill 1, down , 5 ppl focus: skill 1, dead
  2. Target #2 : 5 ppl focus: skill 1, down , 5 ppl focus: skill 1, dead
  3. Target #3 : 5 ppl focus: skill 1, down , 5 ppl focus: skill 1, dead
  4. Target #4 : 5 ppl focus: skill 1, down , 5 ppl focus: skill 1, dead
  5. Target #5 : 5 ppl focus: skill 1, down , 5 ppl focus: skill 1, dead
    If anyone gets close skill 4, or just press rapid fire, advantage of all ppl taking 1 shot, if when reflected you stay up, if not they go down.

And then the ele remembers he has abilities too, hits magnetic aura, watches all of the rangers go down at the same time, and then all 5 of them meteor shower so they dont have to get their feet dirty running over to stomp them.

Only thing rangers can do that eles cant is hit from 1500 range and roleplay as legolas (and we can kind of do that with frost bow)

Conjurer's Conundrum: why just nerf?

Has it been confirmed that there will be a nerf and nothing else added? If so its really disappointing, if not, well, I guess we will have to wait.

Either way I hope conjures are made easier to use, ie instant cast and you get to stow them (maybe it will be tied to f5) so you can switch to your regular skills and back without losing the conjure.

Take for example the changes to burning. The burning condition is in a good place right now. It does high damage but with low duration and can be easily cleansed. I’ve never seen anyone complaining about it being overpowered.

For some reason you’ve decided to make the burn condition a stackable condition like bleeding. You’ve decided to lower the damage of burn, too.

What this means is that certain current class/specs will be useless.

I’m almost positive this whole assumption is wrong and burning will be “stackable” in the sense that 2 players will be able to have burning ticking on one enemy at the same time, but not in the sense that it will stack in intensity like bleeding (which would be a terrible change and I cant see them doing it, burning was designed to be different from bleeding for a good reason). So, unless im wrong, no, your condi builds will not be useless and you wont need new gear.

People who had hybrid builds that relied on stats from traits will need “new” gear, and I cant see why it would be difficult for the devs to code in a vendor that can exchange pieces of ascended gear for ones with different stats, so we’ll see if they actually do so. I have hybrid builds and I could care less, at most I will have to change out one or two pieces of jewelry, but I guess I can see how the 1% of 1% of the population who are altaholics + play hybrid builds + are obsessive about exact stat values would be kittened off.

Here are my thoughts, from a mostly casual staff ele:

First EA should definitely be a GM trait, its just too powerful. A compromise id do would be to make lingering elements give the ele the boons, and have the gm trait make them shared and + 25% longer duration. Then thered at least be a choice involved, and you wouldnt get the unshared boons for free without any spec (which would be unfair imo, even with our low hp/armor)

Other arcane traits need some more work, lingering elements and arcane precision (minus the new 15% recharge) are mostly garbage and can be replaced with almost anything (plenty of ideas for them on this forum). Elem contingency is also really bad, again id trade it for anything, as long as its not an on hit proc (eles not wanting to be hit is something the devs should know by now)

I love the changes to water, though id prefer if soothing ice (the aura part of it, not the regen) wasnt based on crits, maybe tie it to our heal so its not so random (please less RNG!). Itd be good if SDR removed poison too.

For earth geomancers defense seems TOO good, and depending on buffs other classes get I can see it either being imba in pvp (so everyone will yell for it to be nerfed), or just enough to make us be balanced in pvp (so eles will be forced to run it = less build diversity). Maybe im wrong, but its still something to consider.

The rest of earth is decent, Id love rock solid to give more than 1 stack of stab so its not so easy to remove. I also dont like earths embrace being 25% now instead of 50%, 25% health is like 3k in some cases, so at least make it 33%. Diamond skin also needs work, but other people have addressed it better than I could so just see those posts.

Air changes arent bad. I dont think the BTTH change is the end of the world, but if it is going to be a gm it ought to be a 50% threshold instead of 33. Im almost worried that tempest defense moved to master will be imba in pvp (seriously is anyone not going to be running that + lightning rod + aurashare in wvw?), but like geomancers def we will probably have to wait till launch to see how it really is.

Ferocious winds should stay as healing from prec (at least its useful to a few builds) or be redone to something worthwhile. Also give us anything in place of zephyrs speed. Really, anything. A trait that turns you into a moa at 1% health would be better than that is.

Fire changes are also solid with a few exceptions. Power overwhelming is unnecessary (we already have a condi damage from stats trait!), maybe make it have burning do 10% more damage instead, like a weaker version of that guardian gm, condi eles would love that. And I still dont see why anyone would ever, ever take pyromancers puissance over persisting flames even with its slight buff (have it give 2 stacks of might for 15s per spell and it will be more GM worthy, that or have it do something new unrelated to might stacks, which we have enough ways to get anyways)

Id also love sunspot to be burning instead of damage (even if its 1s) so it works with blinding ashes. And the random part of flame barrier makes it almost useless, if it works with lingering elements it will be better but still too much RNG. Instead id make it give the 33% fire aura duration from one with fire, and give that trait a guaranteed fire aura on attunement swap (which would also help one with fire be a viable choice compared to the other 2).

Other changes would be on weapon skills. Gust and shockwave absolutely need to work better, at the very least make them faster and able to hit moving targets, and a bigger aoe on them would be cool (itd also be nice to have them on a 20s cd, but that might be too much with the new merged cooldown traits). The staff autos could also use a speed increase, and it would be nice to see a small bleed (2-3s) on stoning and a damage increase on water blast (not much, but at least put it in line with stoning), but thats more wishful thinking than necessary. Scepter abilities could use a little love too (especially to compete with the d/d aurashare eles that will be everywhere), but I dont play those specs much, so others can say it better.

Other stuff id like (this is also mostly wishful thinking): our good stun breaks on a 60s cd instead of 75s, because there are basically no other stun breaks in the game on a 75s cd. The glyph heal should go down to 3/4 or even 1/2 cast, and the protection should go to 5s. I wouldnt mind the signet heal to go down to 3/4s either. Arcane brilliance fixed to blast where you are and not on your target would be great (more of a bug but its still an issue). Arcane power could also use work, I always thought it should just give the next 5 attacks +15% damage because its basically never used as it is now.

And last 2 things that need work are conjures and elites, but I assume thats already being done so theres not much else to say (but please let us dual wield flame axes so we look cooler!)
