Aeneaaa – 80 engineer
Aeeneaa – 80 Ele
One of the best things about this game is the lack of wow style raiding. Even if it didnt give gear with better stats it would still be pretty disappointing if we got 20 man raids that basically require joining a zerg guild to complete (nothing against zerg guilds or ‘elitists’ that want this kind of content but a lot of people dont want this content too).
Some kind of challenging raid would be cool but id hope its more in line with teq/marionette/wurm/ect than a separate instance
But hey, look on the bright side, now for a mere 8400 gems worth of black lion keys you could get enough ticket scraps to get a halloween weapon! And new players wont be so confused when buying gems anymore so the games population will skyrocket giving us more people to play with! Come on, what else could you people want.
Unlike ele attunements kits dont have cooldowns (not saying they should), so its really just about developing the muscle memory to hit two buttons quickly to activate one skill. And if you dont get the hang of it after a few weeks then the class just isnt for you. Plus grenades take a lot of clicking but just because it gives you carpal tunnel syndrome doesnt make it challenging.
The typical grenadier/tool kit build in pvp is probably one of the easier builds to play right now (how incendiary powder didnt get nerfed when dhumfire did il never understand), though its definitely not the easiest.
Considering that half of the “meta” pvp builds rely heavily on passives I doubt anyone is going to care about your arguments. If the devs wanted to balance the game based on active combat and animations they would have done so by now.
If there was a guaranteed ticket scrap for every chest i bet key sales would skyrocket. Its a shame so much attention is being paid to the gem shop yet they could bring in so much more $$$ by realizing people hate having to gamble with bought gems just for a chance at a cool weapon skin.
It cant be a mistake since the playerbase is too stupid to know anything about the economy, I mean we cant even figure out how to level up so how can we expect to know anything about prices without a masters degree in economics.
But dont worry i’m sure the devs have it all under control and this is how the economy is meant to run.
If you die to rapid fire youre bad and need to l2 dodge
If you die to eviscerate, life blast, supply crate, whirling wrath, burning speed, shatter or backstab youre bad and need to l2 dodge
Its surprising anyone has more than a dozen kills in this game if its so simple to hit one key (though sometimes i die if i cant see my keyboard because it gets dark in my moms basement)
Maybe the devs will apply the new player experience to pvp so the dummies who still havent found their dodge key can figure it out
Maybe we are all just looking at the wrong age range. They could be trying to break into the highly competitive 4-6 year old mmo demographic. All the changes make perfect sense if you look at it that way.
By this logic someone could make a thread about how anyone criticizing the game is being paid to do so by a rival mmo producer.
Makes sense. Now when do i get my check for all these posts.
I absolutely cannot wait for something like this to be put in game (and come on, you know theyre going to sooner or later). The amount of tears from people who still have no idea that running a mmo costs money (who wouldnt want to work a full time job without getting a salary to make people on the internet happy!) would be priceless.
Considering that the good thing about traps is aoe pressure on a point, I dont see how stealth or super speed will help that very much, unless youre in wvw or dueling.
Torment would have been a better choice seeing how the devs feel like adding more of that to the game, but I guess only mesmers deserved it this patch.
3/10
Would have been a better troll post if you put in a video of you beating up upleveled warriors in eotm to show just how awesome you are with that sweet signet build.
If you scroll back a bit theres multiple 100+ post threads about this you could drag up if you really want to debate it. 90% of people in those threads agreed that its dumb, but if the population of this game isnt intelligent enough to have utility skills unlocked below level 10, I cant imagine we would be intelligent enough to know anything about balance.
Clearly he was not intelligent enough to understand the system before, and now that he can understand it he is so happy he has been brought to tears.
Thats guild wars for you, the only “casual” mmo where the most effective way to play is to never leave your home city and sit around watching the market all day long.
At least gem sales will be good and that money can be reinvested into the game itself, right?!
I dont get the hate on obsidian flesh, its just a different version of endure pain (which still lets wars contest points for whatever reason). A cast time wouldnt make it useless but i dont see why it should have one when most invuln skills are instant.
Hating on all the instant cast abilities i understand, but this game has never been 100% about animations. If you want to make it so youd have to overhaul eles, and make a lot of changes to thieves, guards, engies, in fact basically everyone but warriors.
Just be glad youre being hit by a class you can see instead of an 8k backstab out of thin air
Id totally be up for nerfing its duration in pvp. As long as that nerf came with a shorter cast time/cd + usable on the move + faster projectile, just like most of the other cc in game. Oh and buff the 1 and 2 skills too.
Deal?
So buying gems to convert to gold in order to buy a legendary (which gives ap) is not p2w, but using gold to convert to gems in order to buy something in the gemstore is p2w?
No wonder the devs dont respond to the forums if these are the type of arguments people come up with.
So far gold had very limited affect on your achievement points. You definately made enough gold for all the achievements based on gold by the time you reach 20k+ AP. But explain me how I will make enough Gold to get about 2000 black lion tickets by playing the game. Only a trading post mogul might be able to do that. Anet adds a new set of black lion weapons almost every month so its almost impossible to catch up, too. It takes about 50 black lion keys per ticket on average I got told. Thats quite a lot.
GW1 achievements were entirely different and not pay to win. You had to spend about 1000 hours if you focused on getting all 500 AP without doing RMT or getting huge gifts from friends.
I agree with you, but the problem is the ticket scrap drop rate, not the gemstore. That is what people should be angry about, especially since prices of those skins on the tp will at least double after the patch.
A 600 gem weapon skin (that you can get from converting 80-100 gold to gems) is reasonable. A skin that requires 5000+ gems worth of keys to maybe get enough tickets to earn is silly.
I remember reading reviews at launch of people criticizing the need to unlock weapon skills because we would be too “dumb” to read a whole 5 skill descriptions at once.
I guess all these game reviewers that didnt play more than a month were just too dumb to understand how a real mmo should function.
So buying gems to convert to gold in order to buy a legendary (which gives ap) is not p2w, but using gold to convert to gems in order to buy something in the gemstore is p2w?
No wonder the devs dont respond to the forums if these are the type of arguments people come up with.
Those look like pretty awesome changes, you really should tell someone to put those on the front page with all the other changes, im sure pvp players would be more excited about this than about miniatures and collections.
I didnt see it in the screenshot there, but is it also going to be possible to see timestamps in seconds as well as minutes? That would make it all perfect.
I heard that tomorrow theyre offering a feature to directly link your bank account to your hero tab so you never even have to leave it to buy gems. Brilliant!
Guardian torch 4 isnt bad, in a full dps build it can hit for 5k and can be timed to land at the same time as shield of wrath/smite condition to almost 1 shot people who dont pay attention. Better players will see it coming from your buffs and dodge/block but in lower ranked matches it can be fun. The 5 ability is odd though, it would be nice if it was made something more dps orientated, since most support guards seem to run shield/focus anyways
Fixing this and getting rid of hotjoin for people above a certain rank (or at least segregating it so people under rank 10 dont fight 80s) would do way, way, way more for getting people back to this game than everything in the feature pack combined.
Well this and skyhammer, but maybe if these threads hit 5k posts they will be noticed.
Compared to the other “cheesy” builds (PU mesmer, evisc war, d/d celestial ele, ect.) that are out there now, ive seen maybe 1-2 turret engies per 100 of those other builds. Not that it isnt cheesy, but I must just be not getting into those games. Too bad, i’d rather face a mindless turret engy than a multi kit condi one that knows what he’s doing.
What do you expect, them to run up to someone and bash them on the head with it? Actually that would be pretty cool if eles could do that if they used gust or something when someone is less than 150 feet away.
The water auto is 600, if youre in a tight spot you can always use that. Otherwise try messing around with scepter or staff, they can do fairly well at range.
Traits are probably part of it, but gear certainly has something to do with it too, especially if youre in rare gear. Ascended armor/weapons/trinkets, pricey runes/sigils, food buffs, and guard buffs from wvw ranks all make a difference. If you see someone with both guard buffs and +100 power/70 ferocity food, you can bet its someone that outgears too.
Spvp is the game mode that isnt about gear. If you dont mind the only match type being conquest then you can try that instead.
Seems like a great change. I’d sympathize with people who dont have any light armor alts but I dont really care since it makes up for light armor costing more to make in the first place, even if its only a small & more. Besides it will be great to actually get weapons you can use, especially for precursors (if youre one of the .1% of people who actually gets one to drop)
If people want to be mad at anything be mad at the dev who decided to make it cost 300 silk scraps per refine while it only costs 50 mithril. That or everyone just roll eles already.
The devs tried to do something for the rise in wool/silk/linen prices by putting them into the bags you get from living world stuff, it didnt do a ton because the drop rate was still really low, but thats one good way for them to address it in the future. Although i’m sure the TP flippers will come in and say “No way omgz its fine like this just learn to play the market”.
I’m just glad no one I know still does wvw anymore, because the cost to keep good food buffs up in there is just silly now.
In wvw/pve no way, the mobility is just too useful. Pvp I definately would, either a fourth cantrip or maybe a different conjure would be interesting
Even better would be if fgs was reworked to be good in a pvp setting, but thats unlikely. I always thought a conjured greatsword would be you know, a melee weapon, like a super saiyan version of a d/d build that people would actually be afraid of if they saw it
Learn to use ignore a lot, depending on what game mode you play and time of day, primetime is often worse because the population tends to be younger. Its not even that people are so offensive (if you actually take those things personally you shouldnt be on the internet to begin with), but that 95% of the time those are the only things these people will type and automatically ignoring them gets rid of all the clutter in chat.
Theres plenty of helpful people or even people who are actually funny trolls/trash talkers, but its hard to see them if someone is spamming “lol noob get gd already idiot” every line.
Ele is the best imo. It has more of a learning curve than a warrior or a guardian or something and is a lot squishier, but once you learn to survive on it then it can do anything and you’ll never get tired of it (well until you get bored of the game itself). Its also viable and fairly balanced in all of the game modes right now
Guardians and warriors are also a good choice for newcomers if you are having trouble with the combat system. Go to heart of the mists and you can try them all out at max level, and you can fight against the training dummies to see how you like them.
+1 to basically all of these, though the high priority ones would be skyhammer, balance patches/passives, and possibly public test servers (though some games that have these do no better in terms of balancing, so it might not do a lot). In game voice chat would also be nice. The rest seem good but not as vital.
As for people leaving I dont think anything should change, you already get a debuff. But the 4v5’s that happen after should just end if theres a 100 point difference in score (or something like that), it is silly to force the other people to suffer along with the person who left.
I may be missing something but I always thought it was just an oversight that there wasnt a bank, instead of something that was intentionally left out. I mean, wvw players have it without any kind of cost/requirement, even though its free for them to leave wvw and go to a city, so why are spvp players treated differently.
If its a matter of people skipping the gold sink associated with waypoints (and be serious, its going to be like .01% of the population that even bothers to go to spvp to save that 3s), just make it cost a waypoint charge to go to the mists from anywhere outside the cities.
If anything is done with gems it should be like the royal terrace but in the mists, where you have every vendor/crafting station/ect all right next to each other that you can port to. But a standard banker/TP npc should be somewhere for free.
- Skyhammer in solo que, does the thread about it need to reach 10000 posts before its noticed?
- Why are AI/passive based builds still so powerful, and more importantly is that the direction a game based on “active” combat is trying to go, or is it just that there hasnt been enough time to rebalance around it (a notice that its being addressed, even if its going to take another 2 years to fix would mean a lot)
- Any updates on new game modes/maps before the end of the year? (if this was stated earlier and I missed it then forget this one)
Considering how much effort is put into the gem store in each update it seems like some manager is pushing gem sales over the entire game, and even if precursor crafting was already coded it wouldnt be released because that would drive down prices which would drop gem sales. Of course I dont actually think thats happening (hooray for conspiracy theories) and it must take some work to code but is it really going to take two years to put in some new crafting recipies.
Guardian healing seems like its in a good spot since you need to spec basically 100% into it to do the things that probably made you create this thread. Med guards have to trade almost all of that in order to have any solid damage, seems to be working as intended.
I dont have a strong opinion one way or another on this idea (and i’d be for it if it was done well and made more money for the game to grow, even though i’d never buy it myself), but i still find it hilarious how people think something like this would suddenly turn the game into a “p2w” game and destroy it. Its been a p2w game ever since endgame was about skins/legendaries/ect. and the gem > gold conversion has been in place.
There is no the difference between buying 20$ in gems a month for gold or spending $20 a month on a sub that will lead to you getting more gold. Zero difference at all and aside from the .01% of the population on the forums that are against it I bet most people will either like something like this or be indifferent to it.
It doesnt really matter for me because the characters I play already every trait unlocked from pve, but I thought the point of spvp was that you could buy the game, make a level 1 toon, go to the mists, and be 100% on the same footing as any other player there. Guess that was abandoned already.
Theres a lower level 36% reduction one thats a lot cheaper and is almost as good, but yes more options would be nice.
Or just scrap all food that gives +/- to all durations because it doesnt make any sense that food that buffs 1 duration gives 15% while food that buffs all durations gives 40%.
Now i’m not a tp pro, but i’m curious if its intended that costs are going up so much, like say, a vial of powerful blood costing 60 silver. Considering that gold income from actually playing the game hasnt increased even close to as much as those prices the last 6 months, is anything going to address this? I’m aware that a player driven economy is supposed to “fluctuate”, but for a casual player who doesnt want to flip on the tp all day long to afford things its getting pretty disheartening.
I havent played in a few months but as far as i read in the patch notes the only ele buffs were to SoR and cleansing water (which were just a revert of a nerf), and some small buffs to d/d eles like to burning speed, all of which have nothing to do with staff eles except cleansign water making bunker eles more supportive.
Has anything else really changed that i missed or is this just a big troll post.
You guys can come up with whatever distorted arguments you want to prove your point but it doesnt change the fact that things like this are the reasons a huge amount of the population of the game ignores wvw, and from talking to people I bet (but cant prove) that a majority of non forum posting players would agree.
Spvp players have to set up an entire build to get 40% condi duration, and you tell them they can spend 30+ silver (which is a lot for some, though thats not the issue) per 30 minutes to get that just from food, and theyll just laugh.
Solution:
Attune to fire/Earth/air.This pretty much right on. The OPS request seems irrational to me. Similarly if you gave engineers elixir gun tranquilizing dart more damage, you would suggest it is OP.
Expecting support kits or support attunement/weapons is just unreasonable over reaching
Except kits dont give you a 10s cd when you leave them, so no it wouldnt be similar at all. Not to mention that tranq dart has a pretty solid bleed attached to it even though its on a kit thats meant for support.
And agreed that its damage should be the same as stoning since theyre both basically support abilities
CC cooldowns just seem to low. Eles seem like a good place with their cc being meaningful but on a 40s+ cd. Engies and wars and others having stuff on 10-15s cd always seemed silly. But dont ask a pro player about it because they will just tell you its fine and you need to “l2dodge noob”
If you want to be useful at spvp immediately, then probably not (it can be done but its difficult)
Otherwise yes you should make one, especially in pve/wvw.
There should be something you can get from them though getting damask (12g) or deld ingots (3-4g) from salvaging a drop seems like a lot. At the very least it should give you ectos and dark matter and maybe a guarenteed chance to get a few ori. Really weird when getting an item from the highest tier is worth about as much as a blue item.
Every time i go to bed at night I shed a few more tears for all those poor warriors and their attempts to beat those OP eles with all of their useless utilities. Perhaps someday this injustice will be fixed, but we can only hope.
Ive played both, theyre both interesting, but guard probably has the upper hand in almost all situations, though it might be closer now that guards got their vigor nerfed and eles got a few small buffs.
If anything a s/d ele would be more of a comparison in terms of playstyle, but it has a much higher skillcap and leaves zero room for error where a meditation guard has better defense but a bit less burst. A d/d ele might be better if youre looking for a class to roam between points since guards are a little slower, though thieves will give you a hard time whereas guards will eat thieves for breakfast unless they screw up.
Honestly id give both classes an equal chance and see what you like playing, but like someone said remember that youll probably fight a lot of newer players this month so keep that in mind
