Evon Gnashblade - Hero of Lion's Arch

Smooth Penguin.5294

Evon should look upon this conscription with more open-leveled eyes. Because he’s in the Vigil, that means he’s technically part of the Pact, so he can easily set up an agreement with the Order of Whispers to secure goods, the Priory to give him first dibs at selling new inventions and books of new knowledge, and the Vigil higher-ups to help procure equipment for him to sell to help make them war funds to continue their operations.

I can only picture this helping out Evon’s business in the long run, and he has Kiel to thank for this. Odds are if he’ll get over his grudge dealing with her, he’ll realize that he could easily secure more advantageous assets from everybody involved. Because again, he can make business with all of the Pact, AND he’ll have an “ally” up in the head of the council. There’s nothing for him to lose here, absolutely nothing.

Sorry, but a hero never partners with evil. Why should an honorable charr, like him, want to be associated with someone responsible for the deaths of so many innocent Lion’s Arch citizens?

I’m sorry to tell you guys if you think that this skill does not allow you to faceroll warrior – you are doing it wrong.
And If you still thing that this skill is useless anyhow then you shouldn’t mind it being nerf, at least the damage part.

If you’re just standing there and taking the full hit, I don’t think it’s an issue of the skill being Overpowered. I would believe this falls into the L2P category. Warriors are the most mobile profession in this game, have a ton of counters, and is tanky.

Ever try 2, 2, 2ing a Warrior as a Theif? Doesn’t work. All he needs to do is block, CC, and ground&pound the Thief and he wins. So really, Warriors are OP in general.

lol what? Why would your account be terminated for asking for a refund?

When you request a refund of real money purchases, your account is tagged. Sorta like getting blacklisted. It costs time and money to do refunds. Even though the User Agreement specifically says that they’re not obligated to issue any refunds, Anet’s Support Staff can do it (on a case by case basis).

So it’s important to differentiate between requesting a refund of Gems, or a refund of your money.

The mandatory overflow complain

Smooth Penguin.5294

My problems with the overflows is …why do we even have home worlds? Most events unless lucky your playing with mixxed servers. Its hard to get the party your already in on the same Overflow let alone most of your guild. Disticts were the way to go as in GW1. Or why not overflows of the main containing people of the same home server which is just the same as the districts. Then if those get filled mix match the servers.

In GW1, different Districts were the Overflows.

I do believe you could pick your district…

Do wonder if the servers could handle spawning a guild specific overflow, and prioritize putting people from that specific guild there first.

You could easily pick a different District in GW1. And those were shared by all of the same regions. American, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, European, etc. In GW2, it takes more effort, but you can spawn a new, fresh Overflow, and taxi people there.

Wurm's Bane title

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

Most of groups doing the Wurm event can down 2 of 3 heads (or very close to it) in an average run, with the last head’s HP below 10 to 20%. Before it was an adventure just getting to the 2nd phase. Once we discover the sweet spot strategy for all three heads, it’ll be farmable.

This is simply not true. Most of the groups who are doing the wurm still have trouble getting into 2nd phase on a consistent level. There’s only one giant guild (with several sub-guilds) and 2 or 3 servers who get to 2nd phase consistently, although even there you still get the occasional fail in the first phase.

Don’t overlook the determination of players who really want that kill.

I know you’re right but at the same time that determination has taken a blow with each and every update. People have called for the 2nd phase of the wurm to be made easier, just a little (whether that’s through additional time or a HP-tweak or simply fixing the bug where the head goes invulnerable for more than 5 seconds.) Instead every patch and every hotfix has made the encounter harder and less predcitable. I don’t know about the other servers but today was the first day on Deso without a single coordinated attempt at the wurm. It’s little things like this, a simple title not being awarded retroactively that make experienced players give up the content altogether because they feel like their effort is not being appreciated by the devolper. And as a result, everyone who wants to kill the wurm now will have to start from scratch.

My apologies. It would have been better to have stated “most hardcore group attempts”. But yes, new LS events do take away time from Teq or Wurm kills for some. But remember, both Teq and Wurm are permanent content. So after I have my fill of LA, I’ll go back to the other stuff.

Be it tomorrow, or next month, I’ll get the Wurm’s Bane title.

I wholeheartedly believe that Anet should allow us to jump or dive off of the Airship. That feel of endless falling is one of the enjoyments I have with the game. The Krait Tower and Zephyr Sanctum Diving Goggles were nice, since it was the highest point in the game to jump from. So why not the Airship?

Even better, add an achievement to jump into a small bucket on the ground. It would be hilarious to see dozens of players rain from the heavens above Vigil Keep.

Step 4 The over flow you are trying to join is full.

That means you didn’t taxi fast enough to join. Just wait to try on the next event. If you have 300 people trying to get into a map that holds only 150, you’re guaranteed to have upset players.

Which is exactly the problem here, and it shouldn’t be. What’s the point of partying up if you can’t play major events together?

Allow me to explain how an Overflow works. Each map can only hold a finite amount of players (estimated between 100 to 150). When that map fills, a new one is created. It’s a duplicate of the map you’re trying to get into, and is called an Overflow server.

So if you have 300 guildies trying to get into a map that can only hold 150 players, that means you have upset people who can’t play with each other. To put it in better perspective, if you have 151 guildies, and the map can only hold 150, then you’ll have that lone person who can’t play.

Edit – this is the inherent limitations of the game. If there’s a max ceiling, you can’t go beyond it. Even Anet Devs who play with our Guild can’t bypass that limit. It’s First Come, First Served.

No point in having a choice of servers when you cant do main events on them, 100-150 thats terrible for a game this size it should hold alot more than that, but no doubt your gonna come out with more bull to explain this?

Technology limits the amount of people you can hold on a server at a time. Sure you could have 1,000 people on the same map. Not sure you’ll like having 1 FPS, with a 20 second lag though.

But even if you increase the max amount of players per map, if you’re on a popular server, there are bound to be players who can’t get in. Case in point – Deso. If you increase the map size to 500, what’s not to say that 700 people want to play?

Once you learn to think beyond yourself, and see the situation from a different perspective, you’ll appreciate the fact that there is a limit per map. Just go do a 3-way Stone Mist battle with all servers bringing full groups into a small space, and you’ll see what I mean. And that’s only an estimated 240 people total.

A quicker, cheaper alternative is to visit your main server’s Borderland in WvW. It has nearly everything LA has to offer. If you own your Garrison, then you have access to Zomorro’s forging. Or, visit EotM. Simply press “B” to gain access.

Overflow, overflow, overflow, every single time there’s a main event, pointless having a main server, you cant even do the big events on it

To quote myself

Does Deso really only have less than 150 active PvE players?

If you don’t understand how Overflows work, I’ll give a quick rundown for you. Each server has a finite amount of slots for players to take up. Main servers, Overflow servers, all the same. Each can hold between 100 to 150 players. Now, if a server has more players than can fit into a single map, they are then instantly placed into a duplicate map called an Overflow.

In your case, there are more than the max amount of players wanting to do a popular event at the same time. Because of this, you’re placed into the same map, albeit on a different server. This is the better alternative to having a single map, and a queue to wait to get in.

Smooth Penguin.5294

After reviewing all the evidence, it’s clear that Kiel’s focus is to do harm to a great hero, rather than protect the city. The nerve of her forcing Evon to be a part of her inept Lionguard, and stealing all of his weapons and armor under “emergency orders”. Is it as expected of a corrupt politician as her.

But there’s a silver lining in the storm clouds of evil that we call Kiel. Evon is going to outfit Hobo-tron, and power him up to be the Mighty Morphing Hero-tron!!!

Evon isn’t a hero, that would compromise his mission. Since he is, or was, a member of the Ash Legion that would make him an infiltrator, which also means that heroics are frowned upon as evident by him fleeing instead of fighting. What Ellen has done is provide Evon an opportunity. As quartermaster of the Lionguard he can monitor the ebb and flow of battle much more acutely than if he was posing as a merchant. Wouldn’t a true hero of the Ash Legion accomplish the mission no matter the circumstances? I know Blood and Iron Legion would, but they make poor infiltrators to begin with.

Evon is a crafty charr. Sure Ellen Kiel is trying to harm him by stealing his wares, and forcing him to submit to the Lionguard, but it does give him the ability to gather valuable intel. Keep in mind what he states to Hobo-tron – the Lionguard is now keeping a close eye on his activities. Never underestimate Evon Gnashblade resolve.

Now as for him being a hero. A true hero doesn’t ask to be one. He just is. Batman never asked to be loved by his city. No. In fact, for the good of the city, he asked that he be branded a villain. Self sacrifice is a key attribute of all heroes. This is something that Evon Gnashblade embodies.

Smooth Penguin.5294

It certainly doesn’t seem that way. When was the last Wurm kill, by the way? I haven’t heard of one in ages. I haven’t seen any signs of progress towards getting the Wurm on “farm mode”.

Don’t overlook the determination of players who really want that kill. For example, Cobalt was giving us trouble when he would go out of bounds, and stay Invulnerable for 10 seconds. That used to insta-fail the event. Now, even if he somehow charges out, we can still down him with losing the 10 seconds off the timer. We kept at it until we learned when to dodge, when to stack, where to stand, etc.

One word, Districts

Let everyone choose where to meet up at.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Districts

Here is what would happen if we had districts

“Join district 1”
Full
“Join district 2”
Full
“Join district 3”
Full

“Join district 9”
Only 5 ppl here.

It’s no different than the overflow system and would cause a lot more problems, including but not limited to:

-increased server costs
-botting/exploiting opportunities
-spread out playerbase

With the exception that you can choose where to go. I played GW1 during large events never had problems meeting up with people.

Also since you’re comparing districts to over flows which are basically the same thing, except you can’t choose what overflow you wind up in then there could be a hypothetical over flow with 5 people. So that renders that invalid. The player base is already spread out with overflows, allowing you to choose your overflow would at least allow guilds and parties to work together.

I fail to see how this increases server costs or is any more of a problem with botting, because overflows stay open as long as players are in them just like a District would.

Districts are overflows that you can choose.

So you’re advocating a fix for Overflows, by renaming them to Districts?

FYI – I can choose which Overflow to go to as well. If my guild wants to leave all the AFKers in one Overflow, we simply switch. Here are the steps:

Step 1 – Party with a member in the target Overflow you want
Step 2 – Right click on player name
Step 3 – Select “Join in Overflow”
Step 4 – Profit.

This is not friendly. At all.

I implore you, find a way to make your overflow mechanism friends-friendly.

Would you prefer to have only 1 map per server, and a queue line to get in?

Can you please explain, what do you mean with America?

Time zones are a global thing. Because the Earth is round, and rotates around the sun, each time zone starts at a different time. As the Earth rotates each hour, the sun reaches a new zone on the surface of the planet. Time zones help to determine the correct start time of each day, so that foreigners have an easier time understanding why America’s daylight time is different than that of another country.

But people still do it anyway, but with no trade feature they just get scammed most of the time.

What server are you on, because on FA, we see a WTS message about once an hour, followed promptly by uproarious laughter and full-on mockery. Take you junk to the TP and post it.

And come on, who doesn’t miss Spamadan in a weird sort of way?

After logging into a few older MMOs this week and getting reacquainted/spattered from head to toe with spam… No. I don’t miss the Great Slouching Beast at all .

And what of the rest of my post?

The rest of the post doesn’t matter, since this topic has been beaten to death in other threads. The player to player trade function is no more, due to an innovative way to prevent scams. You either use the Trading Post to securely do business, or you play the “trust game” with strangers using the mail system.

Anet is obviously capable of doing this, because they did it in another game, called Guild Wars, which supported CJK input.

Why they chose not to support it in Guild Wars 2 is beyond me.

thank you, I know they did in previous game. and anet also does in gw2, just kind of … broken….

maybe they are too busy…

But you seem to speak and write American pretty fluently. If that’s the case, you can just use the American alphabet in your in-game texts.

A hero like Evon needs no reason to save the city. Tis what a hero does.

If Evon had won over Kiel, would the outcome of this patch have been different?

Discuss!

Indeed. Lion’s Arch would have been saved due to Evon’s strong leadership abilities. The people of Tyria voted for Kiel, and now this happens.
