The dailies are easy as it is. Plus you get to select which ones to complete out of multiple offerings. If gathering 20 times, or killing 50 enemies, or using the Mystic Forge 5 times, or visiting a single Laurel vendor in 24 hours is a chore to you, perhaps you should skip dailies all together?

You wanna talk realistic? My human Thief killed an Elder Dragon, and a walking plant took credit for it. I think my issue holds more of a realism argument. Just saying.

Trahearn never claimed credit for killing the Dragon. He tells he he’s sad that he can’t continue on to help you with the fight and has to stay and work on Orr.

You get a unique Helm Skin for completing part of the Meta. It’s pretty nice and worth nothing, so that would fit your demands.

Gem Purchase w/ RBC Visa Gift Card Issue

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

I am at work on my phone, so I’ll submit a support ticket this afternoon.

I wanted to buy some gems for the march daily sales – so I did some research and went with the RBC Visa Gift Card ($50 Value) – because of the no usage or maintenance fees.

Last night I tried purchasing 4000 gems for $50 – with no tax listed on the end sale before confirmation, I thought it would work – tried three times – came up as a failed attempt.

So I went lower, to the $20 option – this worked twice. Thought I would try the $10 option to finish off the card, but another failed attempt.

At this point I’m confused, I did not see any taxes listed on the end sale on the gem store, so I checked the gift card balance – the two $20 gem purchase transactions were not listed as $20.00 but as $22.85.

(Canadian dollars)

I’m just confused is all. Is there an extra fee from the gem store I don’t know about or taxes that have recently been added but not showing up? Was hoping to get the full use of the $50 and 4000 gems. But now I’ve used $45.70 and only 3200 gems available.

Like I said, I’ll submit a ticket once I get home this afternoon, just looking for insight here and such.

Thank you =)

The issue here is how these creditcards work with certain merchants. When a transaction is made, there’s sometimes an authorization charge, which can equal a $1 hold. This happens when you go to a gas station to fill up your car, or at a restaurant when you pay your bill. You aren’t being charged the $1 to use the card, but rather just having a placeholder authorization that’s released 3 business days later. Cardholders can’t do anything about this.

Epilepsy Warning For Scarlet Hologram Fight

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

I would highly recommend the Devs consider the lesson we learned from the 90’s Pokemon anime. Lots of continuous flashing lights on the screen is not good on the eyes. In the Scarlet battle, having to deal with tons of AOE and various flying unicorns are one thing, but the roaming holograms that act like walking strobe lights was a bit overboard. Not sure if this was a graphical glitch or a bug, but I do know that other people in my Team Speak were complaining about the same thing, so I know it’s not just me.

I know the Devs can’t undo this, but please consider it for future content. The effects make sense for what they represent, but it doesn’t take away from the fact that the combinations of flashing lights is painful.

Anet forgot about GW1 players?

GW1 was a great game. I invested thousands of hours into the game, and had multiple accounts just for storage. I bought costumes from their microtransactions offerings. And filled my HoM to the max. To add, GW2 was advertised as a new game, but one that’s connected with your GW1 account. That’s why I use the argument that it’s the “same” game. The HoM was the bridge between the two. True some weapon types and professions weren’t added to GW2, and new races were introduced, so I understand why certain things couldn’t be carried over. But because lore is such an integral part of the Guild Wars universe, my opinion is having “ancestors” from GW1 should have provided more prestige in GW2.

As for Gem Store items, I’ll continue to pick up vanity skins when necessary. If something is nice, I’ll gladly support Anet with more microtransactions. So I’ll look into some Tormented weapons now, and await the Obsidian armors in the future. Would have been great if I could pick these up from my HoM where my ancestor left them though.

I’m fine with them needing to make money via the Gem Store. And I’m fine with having access to these skins via the TP. I’d just like something more exclusive in GW2 that’s tied into GW1… that initially took a long time to get. Kinda sucks in a way to see Tormented weapons so freely given away towards the end of GW1.

This topic doesn’t even make sense. This offering of Tormented weapons is a nod to GW1 players, not a weird backwards way to ignore them. Only those of us who played GW1 would even know what a Tormented weapon is. I played hard to get my Torment items and gleefully squeed when I saw they were being offered in GW2.

Keep in mind that this is a game. If you refer to any part of it as work, then you are doing it wrong.

It was more along the lines of “Why are people getting to enjoy my exclusive weapons that I worked hard for in GW1”. So the proper way to give a nod to us is to allow only us GW1, HoM players to retain the weapons in question. Of course, this is only coming from my self-centered opinions.

NO Smooth Penguin, that is not what I want, I would like to see the majority of the people there working together, stacking their finishers and blasts. Fighting the battle the way it was designed to be fought, but if 10 people show up on the map and all they know how to do is spam 1, the event should still get past the 25% marker, as long as the majority have a clue. I am not asking for the old tequatl back.

In this single post, you’re saying that you want people to be able to work together, as the event was designed for. But then go on to say that spamming 1 should be just as good?

how do you get the server to coordinate? People see that an attempt is being made, they don’t want to use TS but they show up anyway, they don’t follow the commanders instructions, but run around just trying to kill randomly. What tools are there to make everyone on the map play the ‘correct’ way? Why is there not room for a scattering of n00bs on the map and to still have a chance to succeed? Success at this should not require 3rd party programs and memorizing the Dulfy guide.

I am obviously not getting my point across, and the more I respond the more people like Vol are going to show up and make simple minded comments about my post itself, instead of the point of the post.

So you want to be able to just show up, spam your 1 skill, and expect to win with Elite Content?

I think your point is more along the lines of “Entitlement”. Events like this require everyone working together. Zerg mentality goes nowhere once the Teq Stomp wave washes over you.

Smooth Penguin.5294

This is the first time I really had a major complaint about a release. Us long time Guild Wars fans played our hearts out in the original series. We paved the way for what evolved into a true MMO in Guild Wars 2. When the Hall of Monuments came out, and allowed us to save our exclusive weapons in it, some of us assumed that we’d be able to pass these weapons down to our ancestors in GW2. Fast forward to release day, we were disheartened to learn that wasn’t the case, and that all our efforts to fill our HoM only gave us Achievement Points (although the boost to 50 AP in each category was a nice gesture later on). So no Tormented weapons…

Then… today comes. And what do we see? Gem Store Tormented weapons. Say what??? The weapons we worked our butts off for aren’t exclusive anymore. New players to the GW series didn’t know just how hard it was to get these weapons. When the Domain of Anguish first came out, we had to grind grind grind in order to get enough Gemstone sets to trade for one. I remember fondly that my friends wanted to be the first ones to get an Armbrace, so we did a 16 hour run, from start to finish, to get the bonus gems for doing the entire 4-part raid run. Waking up at 2am in order to coordinate a run like this is pure dedication. The run took longer than it should because one of our tanks over-napped on the scheduled break at the midway point… To add, this was before we knew about mechanics and pull locations, so we suffered greatly trying to succeed. To further my rant, I was the only Heal Monk, so keeping everyone alive was a chore. Anyways, Torment, Margonite, Stygian, and Titan Gems. Those were our prize for working hard. By doing a 4-part run, we could trade our extra Titan Gems for the other cheaper ones with other players. All in all, we worked for our weapons. We earned them, and proudly showed them off in Kamadan. For a time, they were like Legendary weapons because they were so hard to get. Over time, they got cheaper due to duping scandals which made Armbraces more common, but that’s another story.

To me, the price of having to buy Tormented weapons with tickets, or from the TP isn’t the issue. I can afford to do so, so access to these skins aren’t the problem. What I do feel strongly for is that anyone can purchase these skins now. In my opinion, Anet should have kept these weapons as unique HoM skins for only those players who had them stored. Or, what they could have done is let players from GW1 have a better skinned version (like more glowy or something), and sell a lesser looking one on the Gem Store. I would have been fine with that.

With all this said, Anet needs to really consider their old school players. Bonus AP is nice, but give us something that we can have that Special Snowflake feel. 50/50 HoM took effort, and effort should be rewarded.

Is it really so hard to understand how people from a server would like to have some ‘home instance" pride? of course TTS can do it, that’s not the flipping point. EVERYONE should have a fighting chance to succeed.

Everyone does have a chance to succeed. The question of whether or not you’ll do so rests with the server’s desire to coordinate. And skill is required as well. Gotta know what you’re doing in order to win with the event mechanics.

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

There’s no problem with the events, but rather with the players. Once you understand the mechanics of the event, you realize that zerging is the worst thing you can do. Have people split up and be stationed on different areas of the map. That way you don’t upscale enemies, and you have coverage to clear each event.

But, players can choose how they want to play. If you don’t care to reach the 1200 citizens rescue mark, then it won’t happen. Working as intended.

Evon, being the great hero that he is, does what he needs to in order to protect the citizens of Lion’s Arch. Had he been elected to the Council, the city wouldn’t have been destroyed. Minstrels sing songs about what “could have been”. But I’m not surprised that Kiel supporters continue their on-going campaign to smear Evon, even after all the advanced warnings he gave about the imminent attack. It seems it’s more important to make Kiel look good, than for her protect the city.

Wurm is worth doing?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

One of two things need to change for Wurm to be worth it:

1. Heavily nerf difficulty (adding an extra minute to the timer for the head phase, for example).

2. Heavily buff rewards (to the level of guaranteed exotics and 1 in 10 chance at ascended chests).

Until then, all the wurm is good for is frustration. There’s no challenge to the encounter anymore, head phase is just banging your head against a wall until you get a favorable die roll. First phase is identical difficulty to Teq, so in all actuality for the wurm to be worth it head phase could just be cut from the fight completely.

This kind of response sums up the difference between people who kill the Wurm, and people who don’t. The challenge isn’t about the loot, but of the challenge itself. Getting together your guild and coordinating with 150 people simultaneously is what Elite Content is all about. And as time goes on, the Hardcore groups are having an easier time killing the Wurm.

The loot drops are good as they are, as it keeps the fair-weathers away from the event. If someone doesn’t want to take the time to learn mechanics and strategies, and only wants the end loot, then they shouldn’t try the event. All it takes effort from everyone on the raid. For those who do the event and are successful, RNG will bless someone every now and then. A few nites ago when me and three others got the Mini Wurm as drops from a single run.

On the one hand people say “OH NO DONT HAVE IT INSTANCED HAVE IT IN THE OPEN WORLD SO PEOPLE WONT BE CUT OFF FROM IT AND CAN ALL ENJOY IT AND BLAH BLAH BLAH” yeah okay. I get that. But then we have people like you (And I’m not saying you’re wrong or really disagreeing with you) who say the opposite; it’s supposed to be for the elite. This doesn’t make sense, and you end up with issues like AFKers, Leachers, the clueless, the careless and all kinds of people in the mix anyway.

It feels like this content has an identity crisis. On the one hand you have it designed for the elite so that only the hardcores can do it.. And you have it in the open world so.. Everyone can do it, and that non-hardcores are welcome to engage in it despite the content not actually designed for that demographic?

It’s sort of the case in other things too, I’ve noticed. But I’m focussed on this specifically.

Wurm and Teq events must stay in the Open World, where it can be accessed by everyone. While I would benefit from having private instances, I’m against that idea in general. Private instances allow a select few players to effectively deny other players the chance to get in. Gear checks, guild checks, etc etc. Heck, if they don’t like you, you aren’t getting in. But with Open World content, no single player can tell you that you can’t participate. Sure we’d get mad if someone AFKs, thus taking up valuable player slots on the map, but it’s not like we have the power to kick them out of the map.

Well, on higher tier WvW servers, being in a zerg is fine, until you come across and organized guild full of skilled players. When a 15 man team can constantly run over a 40 man group, the fair-weathers tend to ragequit.

So I agree and disagree at the same time on the thought of “Armies don’t need to be organized”. For the solo player, any zerg ball is a welcome sight. For the skilled player, any zerg ball is a moving target.

lol so what is the name of this skilled guild that can 15 man a 40 zerg?

Also Video or it didn’t happen….

We’re called Maguuma, the #1 skilled NA server. We were the ones who came up with the anti hammer train builds. Transfer over and see for yourself how stronk we are.

Diversification is the key word. Putting too much faith into a few high risk investments can sink you overnite. Another thing to remember is this: Don’t spend more money than you’re willing to lose. Keep some liquid so you still have something in the event of a crash in prices.
