Not really a great business strategy when I think the ab items are not worth getting anymore. To buy duplicates of an ab item makes zero sense and defeats the purpose of that item being ab.

You’re entitled to your opinions on what’s worth getting, and what’s not. I’m explaining things to you from a business perspective. If you want something that adds convenience, but it’s not required, you have the option of buying it. If you want more conveniences, there are options too. Anet knows this, and provides you what you want. The cost is in Gems, so you can spend real money, or in-game Gold to get them. And the more convenient way to get Gems quickly is to buy them with your creditcard. I know this, because I’ve bought many many many Gems.

I think the point is some people actually bought multiple copies of account bound item.

So in the end, for Anet point of view is weather they’ll make more money from people buying multiple items for different character or more people willing to buy items once because they can use it on multiple character.

This argument is ridiculous. I was one of those ppl who bought soulbound gathering tools. Should I be refunded now? Was there a refund for those?

There was a refund for those who bought multiple mining items once the change was made from Soul Bound to Account Bound. If they made it so there’s an easy access for a mining tool to be use on all characters without swapping, there’d be more refunds for those who purchased multiple Account Bound tools. But I highly doubt that account wide access to the tools will ever occur.

The following could happen:

1) Precusors are upgraded, so Zomorros will only accept Ascended weapons for Forging.

2) Precusors use T7 mats for crafting.

3) Level 500 Jeweler and Cooking will using T7 (although eating Bloodstone Bricks is not appealing)

4) T7 mats allowed to be tradable on TP.

5) T7 mats merchantable.

In anycase, because we don’t know what’s going on, I would recommend saving them. You never know what Anet will bring out that requires these.

From ArenaNet’s PoV, they would see this as a minor inconvenience to you vs as profit loss for them. People buy multiple copies to get around this. If they were to make it an unlock without any downsides, ArenaNet would have to offer refunds to these people as well as lose future profits.

The closest compromise would be an account wide bag slot to store these items in.

Personally, I think these items, including skins, should be unlocks, and stuff like boosters and minis should also be accessible through the UI, but I doubt it’ll ever happen.

Indeed. Microtransactions are the bread and butter for Anet. With no subscription fees, we get a great game with optional cash shop purchases. If a player wants something that provides more conveniences, options are available. That person then makes the choice of how convenient they want to make the game. More conveniences = spending more money. It’s a great business strategy.

You call what I have suggested, “easy buttons”? Is this a joke? These are ACCOUNT BOUND “CONVENIENCE” ITEMS we’re talking about…

They are indeed Account Bound, so you can put them into your Bank, and transfer them between characters. If that’s too inconvenient for you, you have the option of purchasing more. Many players have done this.

If you want to use the same item on multiple characters, simply buy duplicates for each one. Or, if you don’t want to spend the money, just transfer the item via your Bank.

I really wish, Penguin, that you would read my posts instead of just responding to them. This is the second time today you’ve just thrown out a “creative solution” w/o, obviously, reading what I wrote.

You want the following:

Buy Gem Store item once = usable on all characters via easy button.

I’m telling you the following:

1) Buy multiple of the same item to avoid transferring between characters
or
2) Buy one item, and transfer them between characters (if it’s account bound) to save money

Edit – You’re paying for an item that provides a “convenience”. These items are useable on all characters, but you must make the effort to transfer them back and forth if you don’t want to buy multiples. For “more convenience”, you can buy more, thus saving you time.

Edit 2 – All items are working as intended.

You do realize that international payments require planning, right? In order to process transactions, you need to have the applicable merchant services. Visa and Mastercard are global, so it’s far easier to set up transactions for these, rather than country specific payment options.

I suggest that if you really want to purchase for the amount you’re saying, ask your parents. You do have the option of using PayPal, but it’s your own personal choice not to use it due to minimum restrictions.

The only reward that may be worth doing is for the 1500 citizen saved due to loot from previous living stories. You get more bags from farming so I don’t see any value in going for 1500 unless you want the previous living story loot (assuming it drops for you) or bragging rights.

I hear from people that the Jetpack or Precursors can be loot for getting 1500+.

Smooth Penguin.5294

24 hrs later (after my last rant), I still havnt played this event on my own server. I dont see the point of having a home server when you cant even play on it

Allow me to explain how an Overflow works. Each map can only hold a finite amount of players (estimated between 100 to 150). When that map fills, a new one is created. It’s a duplicate of the map you’re trying to get into, and is called an Overflow server.

The fact that you can’t get into your main home server, means the event is popular, and there’s more players on your home server than a single map can hold.

Let me know if you need a more detailed explanation of what an Overflow is, and I’ll gladly assist you.

Smooth Penguin.5294

Selfless vs. Selfish. The options are there. Selfish players will zerg for personal loot and get it. Selfless players will strive to drive the rescue counter up.

I’ll play devil’s advocate here. Isn’t it selfish to say players must play your way (drive up the rescue counter)?

You’re essentially doing that by saying they’re selfish otherwise. What if the majority of the map wants to zerg? We had that for the invasion events last summer. Would those people be deemed selfish?

Technically, if you were to do something that only benefits you, that’s selfish or thoughtless. It’s even described in game: “Thoughtless Potion – For those who only thought of themselves in this time of need.”

Well then everyone would be selfish rendering the entire argument moot.

The thing you’re missing here is that this content allows you to make that choice, and not be penalized for it. The event was very well planned out, reward wise. The same map allows for both Casual play, and Elite level Hardcore play.

I’m not missing that as I know people have a choice. They always have. Could you elaborate or what you were trying to argue with this post as I’m missing what your point is?

I wasn’t arguing so much as to what’s selfish or not. I was pointing out that if you only do something that benefits you, that would be the definition of “selfish”. Going further, the event allows a player to make that decision and benefit from it, be it AP or loot bags. If other players get mad because they’re trying to be selfless to help the map get the max rewards, that’s fine. Heck, I get mad when I see uplevels trying to do the content, only to be dead on the ground. But bottom line, everyone is playing the event as it was meant to be played.

you want craft/bank/TP, go to any major city lol. They got everything.

Some people just never want to learn and adapt….everyone wants everything for free and served to them on a silver platter… g

So your proposed solution is for him to go to WvW just to craft and use MF? I’m sure those stuck in queue who actually want to participate in WvW will thank you for such a “brilliant” idea.

A better idea would be to go to EotM, then take the portal back to Vigil Keep for MFing.

If they just want to zerg or to get individual achievements for their Living Story Meta, that option is there too. Everyone is happy.

1,500+ Rescues = Elite Content

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Smooth Penguin.5294

There seems to be a lot of people wondering if it’s even possible to reach this goal. I’ve hear servers have done it, so it’s not impossible. I think what you’re looking at is a new model for events. The requirements for rewards have different levels, so if a Casual wants to just do a few things, they can still get some rewards. But if a Hardcore guild wants to get the best rewards, that requires lots of effort. Other events like Teq and the Wurm did give rewards based on levels of progress, but the tiers weren’t as generous as the current LA attack events. Rewards are super easy to get on the low end, but super hard to get to high end.

Look at it this way -> getting 1500+ rescues is Elite content like Wurm kills. It takes coordination and assigned people to duties throughout the map. You need to rescue the citizens and protect them as they run to exits. If people just want to zerg for achievements, it’s pretty much guaranteed you won’t reach that mark, but everyone can still get credit towards something, albeit small. This event, like it or not, has an anti-zerg mechanic. With several events happening at the same time, if a majority of players stack on Commanders in a single area, all other events fail, but it doesn’t end the event as a whole.

The big issue I find is that the rewards are too easy to get. AFKers hurt, as with any event, since they get full credit even if they don’t move an inch. But at least for this, all player types are able to participate and get something. No one can complain that they can’t do it, since it’s Open World. And no one can say they don’t get anything, since loot drops from enemies, as well as the tiered reward levels.

Evon Gnashblade - Hero of Lion's Arch

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

A great hero like Evon doesn’t need assistance from an evil doer like Kiel. I mean, she can barely take care of the citizens who voted her in.

Actually the Captain’s Council elected her, not the citizens. They merely supported her to get the trade agreement, which did have a effect on the Council’s decision. Also Evon’s no hero, a hero wouldn’t prioritize their merchandise over lives. A hero wouldn’t have to be drafted into the lionguard. A hero wouldn’t be sulking like a sniveling coward. A true hero would be rallying the people, securing medical and other equipment, offering their assistance to the Lionguard to retake Lion’s Arch or the Vigil to repay their kindness. A hero wouldn’t make other business owners worry that they will be put out of business due to the situation.

The citizens voted her in, thus elected her to the Council. That also means that every person who voted for her, also is responsible for Lion’s Arch being the way it is now.

But fear not my friends, Evon Gnashblade survived the attack, and will save the day. As we would expect from a great leader such as he.

But why, tell me why did you released Zodiacal Armor, It’s freaking wierd, lore breaking and IMO it seems like you forgotten a texture !

Did you know that in Guild Wars lore, places like Maguuma, Desolation, Henge of Denravi, etc… were all locations on a map, and not separate worlds on servers located in Seattle? So with your thinking, the entire game is lore breaking.

That’s so awful. You give 400 gems to some people, and everyone else is left to rot in the dust?

That’s how marketing works. You take a segment of a population, and base business decisions on the responses in that sample. When done properly, your results are pretty accurate. A business saves money by doing small sample sizes, rather than pay for an entire population. Gifts are not uncommon when it comes to taking a survey. It’s a small incentive to get someone to respond, but not big enough to influence the answers.

Pretty sure Kiel wasn’t voted into power, considering WP and many other GWs 2 community sites supported Gnashblade exclusively.

I also overheard a conversation where Kiel is trying to run Gnashblade’s business to the ground by forcing him to give up weapons and supplies for free, all Kiel’s idea. I don’t see the Consortium helping LA out, seems we know who Kiel favours.

Considering he slammed the gate in the face of ONE OF THE CAPTAINS OF THE COUNCIL, I have a feeling if she didn’t make that arrangement, the Lionsguard would have killed him due to a charge of mutiny for attempting to help kill one of the captains. She may have saved his life.

Smooth Penguin.5294

Nah, that was Captain Shudd, not Evon. She’s the one in charge of the Asura gates.

As much as I enjoy watching Evon squirm during all of this (seriously, Evon, you’re the RICHEST merchant in all of Tyria, and you’re selling me almost the exact same stuff that I can get at any other merchant in Tyria?), I won’t apportion blame to him that he isn’t responsible for.

That said… Come on, Evon. You KNEW that LA was going to be attacked. Yet you didn’t seem to have taken any other additional precautions about it. You didn’t hire any additional guards for your caravans (I had to save your dolyaks for you), didn’t have an evacuation plan for your employees (you abandoned them to die in the burning ruins of the BLTC building), and you didn’t bother stockpiling medical supplies and other goods that would be in high demand during an emergency (and you call yourself a merchant…)

http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1yehf3/what_the_hell_evon/

This made me somewhat less sympathetic towards Evon.

Sometimes, even great heroes like Evon need to make a choice of the lesser of two evils. Either save his wares in order for us to have equipment to fight the bad guys, or leave the equipment behind, thus leaving us with less to fight with.

Because there are many asura gates for people to use, Evon made the correct choice. And shutting it down prevented the people from running into the Dolyak convoy as they rushed through, thus preventing more injuries. Players must have equipment in order to fight back. Without it, we’d have no chance. As expected of a great leader like Evon to always be one step ahead of the enemy. I wouldn’t have been strong enough to make that same decision myself.

Certain server does tequatl without any organisation at all. Just like jormag or any other world event.

Wurm will be the same eventually.

No it won’t. You’re quite delusional if you seriously believe that, and it goes to show what little wurm knowledge you have. As said above, Teq only requires effort and coordination from 30-40 people tops, the rest can just zerg and do whatever, doesn’t matter.

Wurm requires 150+ people ALL playing at somewhat competent level (as far as events go, anyway) and ALL to be organized. Then ontop of that, in phase 2, you need at least 100 of those people to be in zerker gear and actually know how to use it or else you just simply won’t have enough damage to kill the heads. Do you know how annoying it is to get that many people to run in zerker gear when we’re in this current trend of “lol i play how i want” “whatever man i use what i think is fun” “i play outside the meta” and all this nonsense.

Wurm will never be on public farm status like events and like Teq on some servers. Even competent groups that are capable of killing it are starting to lose interest in any more kills because of the effort required and the zero reward you get for it.

Because the Wurm is Elite level content, it’ll never be farmed “publicly”. It will take highly organized groups to get to the point of farming. So when I stated that people will learn the mechanics and consistently get Wurm kills, that statement applied only to those dedicated to the event.

Why was there no chance to thwart the attack?

We as players knew form prior event that LA was going to be attacked. So why were we neither there or able to defend initially when Scarlet attacks?

Because Ellen Kiel is a poor leader. Evon warned everyone, but no one listened.

Refund?

It’s actually no based on a refund, it’s based on a chargeback.

If you ask for a refund and get it, you won’t get banned.

If you do a chargeback and it succeeds, you will get banned.

I’ve read in the Support forums that people who requested, and were granted a refund, subsequently had their e-mail tagged. The person using that e-mail to register a new account was blocked. This might only apply for account refunds, but I’d rather not take any chances if the rule applied to Gem purchases too.

Didn’t Evon reject Heal-o-Tron’s request for an improved chassis? He was at least open to the idea until Heal-o-Tron admitted he had no money, after which Evon told him to shove off.

A businessman to the end, Evon.

Did you stay around to see the entire conversation? Evon, the great philanthropist that he is, came to an “arrangement” to do Hobo-tron’s upgrades for free.

You can always count on Evon.
