I do not want to sound elitist, so I apologize in advance If I do.

I think the real problem with MM is not just the MMR or whatever, the problem is the pvp population who are skilled (mechanical,map awareness, rotations, pvp basics) only account for atleast ~20% of the people who que.

While the remaining 80% are either average, have no idea what they are doing, terrible mechanically, oblivious the other points except the point they are on, just started pvp, old pve players who jumped on the pvp train for the shinies, or a combination of all those.

So when the ~20% of the pvp population moves up in the higher divisions, the 80% are now on an FFA with random chances of getting the type of players that I mentioned.

My experience till ruby is very good, matched with ESL players or people who know about pvp, now when those players move up to diamond (either by winstreaks or luck or playing a lot of games) Everyone left in lower divisions will be a cesspool.

I had match that was 4v5 since the start in ruby and we still won.

TLDR: I think GW2 PvP population is comprised of majority of bad, average, plain out oblivious players, Hence you get MUCH MORE AWFUL games than decent ones.

not to sound like an kitten but this just isnt true. there are good players that get stuck with bad player and just cant advance you have no idea what it is like looking at the map and watching your team do the stupidest things .do i bump into players i have trouble beating or just cant beat sure but not has often has i do people i do beat. killing and getting caps only to watch your team ether 1.drop like fly’s 2. do not fight on point or just zerg. i apologize if i can not carry a team . i now know personal score means absolutely nothing . i have bumped into many that were in Diamond last season yet stuck in sapphire or ruby

EXACTLY MY POINT. You know why good players get stuck? because the probability of them getting teamed up with BADDIES is Higher because the bad population outnumber the good.

That is the point. My point is also accentuated when the good players (who were lucky, had the time to grind, etc) are in higher divisions.

So who are those in lower divisions with the casual skilled players?

Yep, everytime i win with people in my division vs other people from the same division, the game puts me into premades with a mix of ruby, emerald, amber you name it vs full ruby team. The result is as expected. The mm tries incredible hard to give you a 50% winrate. Thus far, i havent won one single game with premades of that mix VS a whole team of my division. Its actually blowouts…like 150 points vs 500 when i get that crap. Bring back soloq pls.

Yea, but to be fair the Matchmaking only does what it intends to do, bring you back 50%, here is where the dilemma starts, pvp does not have that large population with good players, majority are bad, hence you get more one sided matchups.

a) This season is different. If you loose a lot it means that the game will place you in favourable matchups to try and restore a 50% winrate.
b) You know there are these 2 other buttons to the left of ‘ranked PvP’?
You know those you usually want to click on when youre practicing.

“Power Shatter” is actually a distinct build from a lockdown/interrupt one. Sure, they both have and utilize F1 but the subtleties are there from traits to weapon loadouts.

One thing “Power Shatter” needs is a reliable condition cleansing within the framework of it’s typical trailines. So if you wan’t to make “Power Shatter” viable, one way you might do that is alter The Pledge so that a condition is cleansed each time you enter stealth (better torch synergy, better decoy synergy which the build relies on, MI synergy, and also team synergy from thieves/Scrappers providing stealth).

Another way might be to add cleansing onto Imagined Burden (Forcing the player to choose between the increased damage of Mantal Anguish, or the debuffing power of Power Block) so that GS provides some form of cleansing (tied to GS skills, or crits with GS, maybe 1 condi cleansed for every enemy hit with iWave etc).

Providing unblockables “just so” your burst can hit kind of defeats that high risk, high reward part of playing the dive in, burst, and dive out of “Power Shatter”. If you wan’t to ‘negate’ the block, play lockdown, and stun/interrupt/lockdown the target BEFORE bursting. “Power Shatter” does its best bursts by surprise anyway. While Lockdown/rupt isnt so dependent on it (though can certainly benefit from the benefit of a stealth ambush).

Power Shatter is out right now. It’s not far off being back in. Though the things to get it there might be considered radical compared to it’s past history. Straight up unblockable on our two best offensive shatters though does seem a little to ‘simple’, as Pyro put it.

Every mesmer build without inspiration is out in competitive pvp. Sad but true.

I don’t think that’s the case. I think you simply run into stronger opposition as you rank up. If you’re top dog in Emerald you’ll be at Sapphire’s low end for example especially if you consider that Legendaries and Diamonds were seeded there.

1. I started in sapphire
2. i watch teams getting spawn camped consistently

Did you even read what i wrote? I either have stupidly easy matches where we just farm enemy team or i am in match where 3-4 people on my team get farmed 24/7 (i admit as thief it is easy to avoid that fate). I even afk’d on point for whole match as an experiment. We still won. Enemy never managed to get out of spawn.

It’s not the MMR. it the people who grinded to ruby/diamond/legend who were baddies now start in sapphire.

It’s been pretty clear for a looooooong time the devs don’t care nor listen to the community and it’s suggestions, the sooner you realize this and play the game for fun, the better off you’ll be.

This is actually wrong as of late. We might be receiving reductions after all this time, but they have listened to the community. Shout changes, revert on Smokescale, quality of life adjustments, etc.

Realize this, if anything; if you play, keep going, and don’t bring up suggestions and concerns, then nothing gets changes; for better or worse.

You seem to be doing fine, so keep playing and more power to you. As for everyone else, keep up the discussion and expressing your concerns and feedback.

And post more suggestions.

Can you outline the stuff you want in a build? So I can make better adjustments.

Self Reliance. Reliable Sustained ranged damage that is difficult to outheal. The ability to delay a losing 1v1 even against a counter class. Fury and Might uptime. The ability to make good use of the pet more than (Okay come back. Okay attack). The ability to sustain the pet while it is active through boon support when necessary. And freedom of movement.

But LB is mandatory right?

Not mandatory. But staff simply doesn’t have the damage output to prevent being outhealed.

Edit: I experimented with staff quite a bit. But even with 25 stacks of might I noticed that many of the builds I fought could quite easily deal with the damage output. And I relied entirely on pet bursts to deal relevant damage.

Edit 2: You did give me an idea with other rune combos though I have a list of ones im gonna try with different amulets and see if any can solve the weaknesses ive been seeing. If they can I may go back to running druid.

Edit:3 (instead of making a new post and just bumping my own thread) I have noticed sword axe might be better for hte build I posted earlier. The reflect from whirling defense actually does a pretty good job of laying off some of warriors condi pressure. And it hits hard enough you can usually force an endure pain proc. Just an idea for anyone wanting to try something with base ranger.

Berserkers are hard countering druids at the moment. CC and condi burst were already both druids weakness and now they just made it so much worse. Zerkers do both of those without even trying.

if your talking about the 2 condi clear from using a glyph it never helped me has much has i thought it would since it has a delay you still have the 13 condi clear

yeap imo it takes to long to pop the condi clear when the flower blooms.

Sorry if this had been answered recently, I tried various searches with no success. I’ll be away from the game for another week so I can’t check stuff myself.

Firstly, I am not good at sPvP. I’d like to give it a shot though and I was wondering if it’s possible to actually earn The Ascension this year if I started now with season 3?

I know it’ll be available somehow next year, but the vagueness around how that’ll work makes me a little uneasy.

From looking at the wiki or looks like it’s mainly a matter of playing the game and doing well(ish) so my main concern is the crossing divisions achievement. Is it possible to cross the10 divisions required for all 4 sets of achievements in 2 seasons (assuming there are only 4 seasons that is)?

If you are starting just now, did not play s1 and s2, 2x legend and legend 1 next season is what you need to get the backpiece.

League placement qualifiers was a much-needed addition to the league system.

No more “three stooges” at the beginning where everyone (good bad and in between) is clawing all over each-other trying to get out of amber.

Its not often I say this…. but someone over there at Anet is paying attention…. and he deserves a pat on the back for this one.

There are still many things to address about the league system…
…but this was definitely a step in the right direction.

Match making is just wonky

So at first I was at 50-50 for the first 15 games or so.

Next 10-15 I was 60-70+% win rate or so. (got 3 tiers pretty quick in saph)

Next day/night 2, suddenly 100% loss rate…ok… nothing has changed. Why am I at a 5 loss streak?

I used to think these forum peeps where full of it…but now I dunno. I suddenly/randomly just got the worst team mates… I literally had a 4 necro game where no one refused to switch…

I was literally 1v2ing (and getting a kill) a whole game and still lost to a blow out.

Terrible terrible match making today. I don’t get it. Was fine before.

This only proves how horrible last season is.

Diamonds/Legends last year = Sapphire noobs.

Thank you for saying so. Though the events of the last 24 hours makes me doubt that haha. If I was as good as I thought I was I would have found a way to make my build work.

But so far the most effectiveness I have found with my shout build has actually been to give up druid entirely in favor of MM NM and BM with a paladins amulet and soldier runes. GS/LB

It feels like its too dangerous to try and perform a close engage so I fell back on the old sniper roll. Still testing it out against various builds but so far I am hopeful. If it works out I may try to advertise it for rangers/druids that want to avoid going bunker. It has more counters than the previous build did though its tanky enough it can survive for a bit even if those counters are present. Cross your fingers >.<

This is what I have started running. Its very close to one of the old power ranger builds and the playstyle is the same. The biggest change are the utilities I chose to run and the runes/amulet. I ended up going for paladins because it gives us a better spread of stats considering our competition. (Enables you to better handle vault spam thieves or condi players). And also because of weapon scaling for rangers ferocity is almost pointless for short term fighting

Biggest weakness are condi players. It can go toe to toe with a scrapper but it is reccomended to make use of your ranged nature against against condi builds unless you know how to dodge key condition applications.

I originally wanted to take wilderness knowledge. But I underestimated how much the damage loss from hte birstleback and smokescale hurt us and I realized that most builds out their were able to simply stand in my attacks without showing any sign of danger. So ultimately I went for marksmanship. I took piercing shots in order to be able to shoot through mesmer clones and necromancer “Rise” minions as well as for some much needed down cleave.

Clarion bond gives us near permanent fury uptime if used with other skills. Making it a no brainer as far as damage boosts go.

I went for might stacking sigils on the longbow in order to provide buffs for both myself and my pet through nature magic. Unfortunately Fire and Air sigils didn’t do enough for me to justify using them so I went for strength/battle because shout ranger is VERY good at manipulating/magnifying the effects of might stacks.

Out of everything I have tried in the last 24+ hours this is the best so far. Still working on it but aside from taking a menders amulet and falling back to the bunker role I am not sure how many other options we have with our current level of damage.

First lemme tell you this:

Soldier Runes are really subpar for ranger shouts, Our shouts are all over 15 seconds cd, you are not maximizing condition removal at all. Which promotes spamming shouts then in turn becomes unskilled play.

MM is meh too. I would just go NM BM Druid with LB/GS.

This is my take on your build.

I removed MM.

Put Druid for mass condi clear, sustain, stealth and That ancient seeds proc with LB 4 for kiting and decaps or caps.

Now you wonder, you lose damage with losing MM.

I replaced it with High Quickness uptime for you and your pet. Easy 25 might stacks for you and pet.

High protection uptime now with Protect me and and Protective ward, Perma regen as well and you still get fury from GS.

This is all you and the pet. Your pets will be hitting so fast and you too because I changed the amy to demolisher. that +560 ferocity man that Paladin doesn’t have.

Now low HP right? I added Sotw for more sustain together with Perma regen and Protection that enables you to enter druid form every cd = more sustain.

you basically have 50% boon duration on this build. I removed the battle sigils because you have so much boon duration even swapping and might sigil + your heal will easily
get you to 25.

Outnumbered? Disengage with stealth via LB 3 and celestial shadow.

Condition removal sources are Druidic Clarity, AF 2, AoE 2 conditions converted with Leadership runes (very good synergy with low CD of Rao)

The quickness uptime is atleast maybe 50% in an active fight.

Another important thing is SotW gives you 5 stacks of stability for 20 second!! very good for stomping, healing, cleaving ressing.

Not to mention the Sic Em + SotW combo on top of a quickness,might, fury infused pet.

actually and right now Druid does not bring anything: if you want heals the tempest is better than far (this is corroborated by any raid guild) and the damage boons druid brings are completely useless to bring to a mobile set-up as is the esl.

I doubt it. Mostly even, you are forgetting the ele shouts got nerfed too.

Irenio&co keeps trashing the class bit a bit, simply because they dont have a kitten clue of what rol should play the ranger or the druid in this game.

And because of that we have a ranger that does not range, a druid that does not heal and a pet that is more like our nemesis.

I asked before and keep asking now: We need someone in charge of the ranger/druid that can actually balance and give the class some gameplay.

We get forced into NM/BM/Druid purely because of the strength of boon sharing and the added stats for our pets. We then might stack our pets to 25 might. Instead of BALANCING to provide rangers with more build diversity options we just get our crazy buffed pets, which we’ve invested heavily into, nerfed instead. Effectively making every ranger build worse.

1) HIGH MRR vs. LOW MMR
Where is the rewards difference?

Hahaha I have noticed lately today that I no longer have the damage to kill anything. A thief STOOD in my bristleback f2 that I had boosted with sic em. He still had half his life after it. I can no longer apply any reliable pressure to ellies. I cant disrupt the blocks of revenants and mesmers so they get to freely heal. Condi reapers are so kitten tanky that a boosted rapid fire with 25 stacks of might did less than 2k damage. Thats with a marauders amulet.

I hope you all like playing condi and bunker people. Because power atleast seems to be dead entirely. I just cant find a way to get hte damage I need to burst ANYTHING.

Edit: and Rangers Sustained damage has always been a joke.

Off topic, what does your ranger wear? your armor on Serena look so good.

Haha thanks. Bladed chest gloves legs and boots. Triumphant shoulders and either the triumphant head piece or the Mask of the Wanderer skin. Glittering weapons and its all in starry night dye color.

For some reason, when the patch hit, my graphics on gw2 looked like im playing on all low.

Before patch it looked more crisp.

Anyone experiencing this?

What if I do not take BM?

Any reliable pets in terms of what it can offer as a whole? Not just DPS.

The blind on raven is insanely useful. I don’t think I’ve touched a raven since HoT came out, but it’s a solid pet.

I feel like I’m repeating what you already know since you’re an experienced ranger, but dog, wolf, spider, raven, owl, and river drake are all solid pets. And there are a few others for people’s personal preferences, like alpine wolves or hyenas. If you’re looking to switch things up, hyenas might be a good place to start since no one runs them. I think you can get 3 out at a time with BM.

Tried Hyena, it was horrendous. went full BM might stacked hyena, it didn’t work. Maybe I will try raven. BB is ovverated IMO, you only get it for the f2, drake offers more like blast finisher, cleave attacks, and their f2.

Shortbow Flanking Talk

Exclusive to shortbow is better. Mesmers should be the ones putting out confusion reliably. It would be bad to give other classes access to it too.

If it was SB only i think it will be balanced that way, nothing over the top.

  • 3 Stacks on Hit, 5 Stacks if flanking.

I mentioned the 3 stacks, this way it gives #5 a use even if the targets are farting stability.

I would also say you have to add something about LOYF, you are suggesting SB stuff, so you might as well change how the trait interacts with your proposed changes.

As of now, the only reason to take LOYF is piercing. Even if you say it procs on evade, SB deals pitiful damage, 10% damage on that trait is NOTHING.

That’s the thing. Thieves and Warriors have a trait that applies to confusion on foes, and only one trait in one line. Seems thematically odd for them since they have no other internal sources of confusion. That’s why I’m asking if it should be on MoC rather than exclusive to SB.

Mesmers would still be top for confusion application, but 1 trait for Ranger would be similar to Warrior and Thief. That and I’m not really down with free confusion, regardless of stability available.

That’s something that Anet has to address, because at this point, adding more because of more just adds more power creep. If anything, keep it on interrupt. You either use Concussion shot to strip stability, or wait it out and use it at the right moment.

As for Light on Your Feet, only thing I believe it needs tweaked is condition duration swapped to condition damage and activate on evasion. The 10% bonuses are universal for any setup, and piercing with recharge for taking a shortbow is fine enough. It just needs to be more user-friendly and synergize better with other skirmishing traits.

The reason I mentioned the free confusion is that, there is so much stability nowadays and with that, Concussion shot will absolutely do nothing. So you really only maximize 1-4. Talking bout competitive team setting btw. In solo q you will get by the stab uptime most of the time. As I’ve said, stability is very hard to strip now especially the pulsing ones bec of the stab change couple of patches ago.

Yes, warriors and thieves have the confusion trait, but they are both GMs I think. I am a mesmer main, I was incredibly salty that warriors got that Confusion on Interrupt trait which would’ve been perfect for mesmer but this was a time when other classes are better at confusion application vs mesmers.

For LoYF, this would be a great idea I think the 10% damage and 10% condition damage will be solid and procs on evade.

One minor thing I would tweak is can we please make it last like 5 seconds?. I think its 4 currently.

Last question, I think rangers are the only ones who do not have a % duration trait for conditions, do you think rangers should also have that?

You might as well start a new topic in regards to traps. Personally, I’d only opt for a few things:

  • The 2 DH traps that are instant have a ½s cast time like the rest of the traps found across all professions.
  • Stun Break DH trap comes with 1s of Stability on cast like other stun breakers with a cast time.
  • Frost Trap is removed from the game and replaced with another GW1 trap. Either Dust Trap (inflicts 2 bleeding and blind per pulse for 3 pulses) or Barbed Trap (2 torment on each pulse for 3 pulses).

But yeah, start a new thread on traps though. Worth discussing a bit further.

We’ll see what happens with the other balance tweaks tomorrow, but so far my favorite post-nerf setup is the s2 meta build, subbing in Carrion ammy, guardian runes, and swapping out sword for scepter.

Random thoughts:

1) Guardian rune is main-stat toughness, so you only end up down about 375 toughness and the extra vit makes up for it
2) That said, you do have to play on the edges of the team fights a bit more
3) Scepter edges out sword IMO: burn on block from rune set, CI buff, confusion completely shuts down thieves (who are popping up again and benefit from decreased toughness on mesmer)
4) Shield 4 blocking precision strike procs burns (wouldn’t have thought it, but I’m no expert with technicalities of skill interactions)
5) Ineptitude > MoF, loading up on the offensive block (AoE diversion is less valuable with the reduced tankiness)
6) Starting to prefer Gravity Well over Moa: extra ranged cleave/interrupt on downed bodies is nice now that it’s harder to sit in the middle of a team fight

I had this idea before, but IMO, the burns will only worth it if you get it to atleast 2 seconds.

^Spotted the Revenant player. Argues that because such amazing skills like Signet of Might and Assassin’s Signet exist, Phase Traversal is OK. Similarly, Guardian Bow of Truth does the same thing as Ele shouts, it cures condis and heals, therefore Guardian spirit weapons are in a good spot right?

Argues that blind is a good counter even though it only blinds the first hit and the super long evade frame + high damage + permanent 100% crit chance still persists. Permanent 100% crit chance.

Argues that all you have to do is just be out of range. Ah yes the classic “Oh the skill is fine because you can just run away in a game mode where the main objective is to stand on point” defense. Nevermind the fact that if the Revenant casts it on you and you port away after, IT STILL FOLLOWS YOU LOL! I once ported away with Flesh Wurm only to arrive at my destination 1200 range away with the Revenant still whirling and twirling, still evading and stacking might, and still critting because someone over on the Anet staff decided permanent 100% crit chance on a highly mobile, bursty, heavy armor class was a good idea. Permanent 100% crit chance. Permanent 100% crit chance.

Even in a teamfight scenario where the skill hits multiple players, it’s a completely safe attack because of the year long evade frame that will guaranteed always crit multiple players regardless of dodges, blocks, blinds, and even blinks and it’s on an extremely short cooldown, and it will always proc sigil effects because permanent 100% crit chance and it will stack extra might for your team. But nah it’s fine says the Revenant player.

So we have a necro player^^

100% critical chance: learn to use your UNBLOCKABLE corrupt boon 1500 range, easy 11 sec weakness no more 100% crit. Learn to use your UNBLOCKABLE marks to kittenload condi so that even in evade revenant will die. Learn to use your spectral armor at right timing… btw who needs evades when you can avoid 100% of the dmg by just going reaper form?
And now tell me any necro attacks that even gives a kitten about blind, since they are all aoe -.-. By your logic, if blind should cancel all the hits from UA, then same thing should happen when placing aoe while having blind, all the pulses should be blinded!!

On Point: Guardian serves zero viable role

I agree that guardians can use some help. Just no buffing traps or spirit weapons. Passives are not fun.

Ideally they would reduce trap damage by a good 25% but make any boons granted shared with any ally within 600 radius. (Also they could stand to apply bleeding at base in order to make other build options viable)

As for spirit weapons, they are crap no matter what they do at this point.
Either they will be crap or the poor mans MM necro.

Instead they should redesign them to be more akin to weapon enchantments that the dervish had in GW1.

I know people are gonna hate for this but, asking to buff boons is absurd. DH traps are the only traps that get boons ON TOP of their effects.

Let’s not forget DH trap has a stun breaker but others don’t.

I just find it crazy that all dh traps give boons ON TOP of their effects. And let’s not forget they get a stun breaker on a trap too, making a full trap bar feasible.

Can we get boons on our traps too when traited and atleast 1 stun breaker trap? This would be completely balanced because we are just streamlining them with DH

Is there a way that Anet could separate these things? Like putting premade teams in a separate queue so we don’t waste my time on that kind of bullkitten?

We had this. It was a different tab entirely for Premades and that 1 or 2 solo players who absolutely didn’t mind the challenge at times. But this lead to incredibly high queue times for 5 man teams… to the point where they often waited 10m++ until they found a game.

So far, the current solution caters casuals and 5man teams both. Unless you have a better suggestion?

In higher tier Legendary que times are upwards of 20 minutes with ease. Usually 10-15 minutes during prime time. 3 to 4 hours late night / early morning.

I also played in top 10 SoloQ and I often ran with a team in TeamQ within the top 50 and to be quite honest with you I never minded the que times in either game mode. It wasn’t really broken per se, they just attempted to make it better but it just got worse.

Some people got lives though. 20 minutes for a match is crap.
