  • Transfer prices for whole guilds are immense and based on skewed parameters. It should be free to transfer to bronze league servers, cheap to transfer to Silver league and very expensive to join the blob bandwagon in gold.

I’ve considered this for a while and while it could result in huge numbers of people moving to low servers and riding them up the tiers, at least it would mix things up a bit.

Nobody at Anet loves WvW like we do. We have no champion there. It’s sad, but I gt the impression we’re in some kind of papered-over maintenance mode. That’s why I believe nothing significant, such as the sentries, will change despite the “Golem Rush”.

Firstly, I think nameplates are a poor idea and have always considered them a necessary evil. I remember posting something similar to the OP way back when about DAoC. I think the only way to get a MMO to work without them is to start it from the ground up. Sadly, that means it’s not going to be GW2.

Also, without nameplates, you can’t tell how big a zerg is when they all stand their characters inside one another (due to there being no collision detection).

Whilst I agree that WvW could do with new, better and more interesting mechanics, I was listening to someone who works in the industry in our WvW TS who was semi-ranting about how they go about things. I’m amazed, having heard what he had to say, that we have anything approaching a reasonable system as it is. Many of the old systems are unfathomable to newly recruited programmers because they had no involvement in their creation and it would take forever to implement the simplest of changes to existing code. This is why you often see new systems being implemented but not old ones being fixed. Oftentimes, as with the orbs and quaggans, a system will be completely removed and replaced rather than fixed.

Jeeze I don’t know what things are like on my server. I guess your right I just need to get in experience some wvw. I’ve been enjoying pvp and im thinkin I’ll enjoy wvw. I’m worried because all my Pve gear is berserker and I’ve been led to believe I’ll be an easy kill with that set up. I play guard, thief and necro. I Think it may be a bit difficult/expensive to experiment with gear in wvw.

it depends what you want to do, the builds for solo and small group are pretty similar, but it starts to change a lot when you hit 10v10, 30v30 etc.

If you’re on the periphery of the blob you don’t need to be super tanky (the logic being that if the centre of the blob dies, the fight is over anyway).

Decrease base healing, and increase scaling.

Why?
Because as supplementary healing mechanic it should be less useful by all these zerkers who didn’t invest single point into healing power.

Reading between the lines, I think the Johanson flagged this up on Ready Up when he said, “we never said we don’t want to have dps, and a tanks and a healer”, in secret code. Subliminally. Aliens.

To me, the devs seem to be preparing the ground for a massive boost to healing power. They really like that Ventari Tablet spec. Players appear to believe healing is near-worthless unless it’s;

  1. Your healing skill or
  2. Blasting a water field

With massive spike damage causing issues everywhere, mitigation is important, but devs don’t want PvP fights to go on forever, so they will probably leave the spike in the game but offer PvE players viable healing specs.

WvW seems to have taken a massive population hit since the stability change. This could be down to the summertime, and most of the optimists in my server community are certainly putting it down to this.

I was expecting HoT to be released around September, but having read this, I think it’ll be next year. If that’s the case, then I think we’ll definitely be able to tell whether the population has dwindled significantly or not.

Why not a WvW Tournament?

in WvW

I think a tournament is too much trouble. When we mentioned it to Tyler Bearce he smirked and said nothing.

Everybody knows the population & nightcap issues with WvW, but solutions are;

  1. thin on the ground
  2. expensive to implement
Don’t expect those aspects of WvW to ever be fixed.

Of course, they lead to much misery when people are trying their best to win an uneven competition. I find this slightly ironic given that in Warhammer people were discontent with uneven sides and pointed to a third realm as the solution. Clearly, GW2 is evidence that this isn’t the case. There are still nightcap and blobbing issues.

While the new map is littered with reasons to unblob, Tyler said himself that they don’t necessarily want to stop people blobbing as it is a social activity many enjoy.

Nightcapping doesn’t seem, at this stage, to be being addressed at all.

Golem Rush… The solution to mass golems?

in WvW

Posted by: Svarty.8019

Svarty.8019

I think that the idea of golems slugging it out is very nice. I think there’s a lot of scope for fun with golems.

I was talking to a guildy the other night about how golems were sadly underappreciated by Arenanet as a way of offering upgradable content.

One idea was to have a garrison upgrade called “Golem Factory”, which spits out a golem every few hours. This should give interesting gameplay while offering even more incentive to downgrade the enemy’s garrison.

The golem factory could also be used to upgrade alphas to omegas (takes a long time and you can only do one at a time, don’t get funny ideas).

Golems themselves could be expandable, coming with a basic form of skills, but having specific upgraded versions available if you, for example, dock them in the golem factory. These could offer longer or reflective bubble, flamethrower, multi-warhead rockets, railgun etc etc, the list is …long.

All of this said, the problem is that if you offer these weapons to a side that is already dominating, they will simply dominate more. For that reason, I think the side that is winning should NOT be able to construct a golem factory, and when a side takes the lead for a certain amount of time, their golem factory should explode.

Omegas need rebalancing, but on the evidence I’ve seen since launch, the development leadership are interested in implementing new things but not fixing broken stuff.

Well, the problem, as I see it, is when you do as you are here, and confuse your subjective opinion, with that of objective fact.

Simply because you, personally think something is broken, doesn’t make it true. Simply because they do not change the game around your personal judgments, doesn’t mean they shouldn’t implement new ideas.

While I agree that evidence is the key element here, I believe that the vast experience of the OP with Omega golems qualifies them (as most WvW regulars) as an “expert witness”. As such their opinion should carry considerable weight. Frankly, dismissing them as “subjective opinions” is both unfortunate and insulting, to me.

Question: What was the thought process on the ecto gambling?

to the best of my knowledge the ecto market is one of the most stable ones we have with steady supply and constant demand. While the last thing the game needed was more rng based win big or lose it all style systems?

At a guess it was a way to remove value from the market in a fairly controlled manner. If the system was sophisticated, the RNG could be … biased when set goals are achieved in order to maintain interest in the gambling mini-“game”.

GW2 Combat - What's Wrong?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Svarty.8019

Svarty.8019

The following post is all my opinion and whether you disagree or agree, please feel free to comment. I would like to hear your opinion.

edit This post is about combat in PvP and WvW.

Damage is high, Jon Peters has stated so himself. I would expect this could be solved with simple tweaking of numbers. But tweaked to what level? My argument is that we need to be able to choose tanky/healy specs, even unkillable builds in 1v1 but these should not capable of killing things in return. It should require multiple people to kill these builds. But when facing multiple people they should lose. That’s the balance I think needs to be struck, and that in doing so we will have a healthier and more varied community.

Although much of the PvP game is twitchy, many players are, like myself, old and slow, requiring more time to think about what to do, but there seems little time for counter-play and too much emphasis on super-spike damage. There are no cagey standoffs where one player looks for an opponent’s opening move in order to counter it. Indeed, the potential for counter-play doesn’t seem to exist, in many cases! Player-characters lack the abilities to counter infinite mindlessly spammed of conditions and crowd control. This seems to be simply badly thought-out mechanics. I mean, what’s the least fun thing about life in general? It’s not being in control. CC is the most unfun thing anybody could put in a game, yet it’s here in abundance. It seems to me that Arenanet should look at reducing CC a lot, both in terms of duration and availability (be that the number of skills with it or their cooldowns).

I always felt like when designing medium armor, they made it all for engineer or thief and forgot that rangers existed.

Who romps through the woods and ranges across open lands in a coat that gets caught on every passing branch and stick?

And who the heck tinkers around in a workshop in a coat that’ll get stuck in a turret gear and pull you into the machinery?

And who the heck tries to break into places with a big ruffly coat that makes noise and restricts stealthy movement?

Heck, the tattered long coats seems to fit a trapper/hunter/mountain main kind of look more than anything else, seems like they’re meant for rangers.

In other words, the coats fit NO class, knock it off, art team!

Are you guys trying to apply logic to a FANTASY game?

Let me remind you of this female armour that leaves exposed some of the most vulnerable parts of the body.

I’m not defending the proliferation of one type of armour, but if you are suggesting that it should be changed on the grounds of REALITY, you should consider thinking of a another reason.

  • Shield of Absorption cooldown goes from 30s to 24s baseline.
  • Shield of Judgement cooldown goes from 25s to 20s baseline.

The above skills will still be affected by the shield recharge trait and will go to 19s for Shield of Absorption, and 16s for Shield of Judgement.

And Anet shows that they still do not know what the problem is…

/agree. Such a shame that the (literally) iconic guardian weapon is so fundamentally weak that you see more engineers wielding the legendary shield than you do guardians.
