I agree with all of your latency issues. I live in Australia 300ms if I’m lucky. When Anet were asked about Oceanic Servers I believe their response was something along the lines of, we have asked people from Aus and they say there is very little affect of lag on the game. Not to mention that it is so hard (costly) to setup any kind of servers here lol.

I stopped using /D due too Flame grab, Lightning Touch and RTL not doing as intended. People complian about RTL being 1500 pre patch. It would take you to about 1500, then rubber band you back to 900-1200. Now it takes you to 1200, to rubber band you back to 600-900

Signets not worth using

Personally only time I have trouble landing signets is when the target is actually out of range or out of line of sight because the signet will let me fire it off regardless (target or not). I have no issues even standing on walls, finding one guy, targeting him and just ruining his day with the above staff combo.

Issue is not from a wvw point of view, but from a sPvP point of view, where the battles are smaller and everyone exploits weaving.

Too many boosters, not enough powder

My friend has unlocked his bank, 8 character slots (total of 8 including the starting ones) sky pirates medium gear, unlimited pick and unlimited harvest, not to mention his back packs (char + quaggan) all from ingame gold. Yet he plays pve (a bit more then I play the game at all) and I play pvp and I get the raw end of the stick.

It’s an interesting idea, but the balancing act would be quite hard to do.
I mean, stakitten Fire and Water and D/D’s Earth and Air = 2 easy blast finishers for stakitten water combo, instead of staff’s precast earth blast finisher.

Edit: I would like to see something done though. Currently you’re stuck with what you take (unless bringing conjures). So staff your stuck ranged aoe, if someone gets close your not fighting at optimum and if you are d/d you are full melee, so someone can range you from cliff and gg, run or die.

I assume that is directed at: “Ever seen a theif melt? He immobilized me, then took a full FGS 3 to the face.”

It was someone from my guild lol, but dunno if they knew what FGS 3 did. I pulled it at the same time as they immobed me, but unfortunate for them.

There was a point when no one knew what frost bow did, and currently not many know what focus does.

If you’re a D/D ele the only way you can get perma swiftness is if you get the Air I trait and waste your auras and swap in and out of air with the V trait in arcana. Oh and btw gg when your Frost Aura is on cooldown because you were using it to roam in the first place…point is we have to trait for it; other classes don’t.

Same for wasting you heal on swiftness, this happened to me in PvP the other day, used my heal for swiftness (s/f so no movement skills) and a necro chased me to my death, had him so close too, if only I had a heal

Skin Pack s/tPvP AND PvE

So, you go to the gem shop and you get yourself a nice skin. You can put this on EITHER pve or pvp toon, but not both. Is there a way that you guys at Anet could add a 1000 – 1200 Skin pack that would contain 2 sets of skins. 1 that could be applied to your pve toon and another that would go into the pvp locker for use with your pvp toon.

This would save us poor souls some money (saving of 600 – 400 gems going of prices I listed above) and possibly make you some more. Currently I have the Sky Pirates medium set for my pvp toon, and I would like it for my pve toon, but I’m not paying an additional 800 gems for it, so its staying in pvp for all my leather classes to use.

For mobility you have (let’s assume D/D or S/D)

- swap to air attunement (5 seconds swiftness)
- RTL (target a yellow critter for shorter cooldown, or live with the 40 seconds) (1200 leap skill)
- swiftness from GoeH if you’re using it (10 seconds swiftness)
- swap to fire, fire 3 (if mainhand dagger) (600 leap skill)
- lightning flash (900 range teleport)
- swap back to air attunement (swinging through water if snared)
- and repeat till you’re somewhere safe.

<- Lives in Australia, laughs when he reaches 1200 range and teleport lags back half the distance. Laughs when his fire 3 lags and the other players run past him. Uses a focus from then on and laughs at rangers who don’t know what it is so they continue to use their bow. MUHHHAHAHAHHAHAHA. Gets a better cleansing fire, a better mist form, reflect, projectile destruction and deals with the others kittene skills.

I don’t turn the Frost Bow auto off. I just use 5 3 4 then drop it. Holding it any longer and it is certain death. Sometimes I go 3 4 5 massive non frost bow combo.

Condition Removal Question

I assume pve?
Look at 30 water for the cleansing water. Then look at glyph of elemental harmony (the heal in water) then look at dywanas runes. 2 conditions gone when healing. Then there are the 2 elemental glyphs and the glyph trait that … applies regen when using a glyph in water. That’s 3 condition removal with your heal alone (as well as 1 freebie on allies), as well as extra condition removal on the 2 elementals (if using water, the water elementals have a skill to heal btw). For allied condition cleanse, you have your heal for 1 and healing rain for another.

That’s 1 idea for support, however, the 20 investment into air for inscription is not as good as just going 30 in arcane for EA. It has a blast finisher on earth and a heal on water. Dwyana runes will still net you 2 condition removal and 1 for allies on heal as well as a 5% rng condition removal on hit every 30 seconds. But healing rain is your best condition clear. Note it is bugged, it says 4x regen, it only does 3. With 30 water that’s 2x condition cleanse per 3 seconds (or 3 times, don’t read the tool tip) for you and your friends.

Yes. I use air, water and earth signets in my main build. And air and earth in my current test build.

What annoys me is that the enemy has to be right in front of you, so not using the signets on approach can mean they are waisted latter in the fight. The c/ds on some are so high as well.

The air signet is one of my favorites. The earth signet is second best (when it works) long duration immobilize for those dragons teeth.

I don’t see the conjure weapons as something to work a build around, but more something you can add to open a few more doors. E.G. S/x burst, open with frost bow 5, then drop and start dragons toothing.

A friend of mine tried to make a build around conjure weapons. 1 build was a flame axe condition bunker, the other was an all conjure build. The first was pretty strong, the second was so lame the he abandoned it after 1 match.

I would like to see the conjure weapon either take over its respective attunement until you drop it with weapon swap key.

Or for it to be a weapon swap ability. So it rocks up, pressing swap weapon will stakitten and give you your normal attunements back, swapping again will pull it out. Summoning a different weapon, or picking up another item will remove the original.

Exactly, if you want your game to be an esport, and an esport company rocks up and says, “hey, lets see how this goes and how many are interested”. Then there is no promotion of it and hardly anyone shows up (wether that’s due to no one showing up or due to lack of promotion) then that esport company says, “well not much interest so, sorry GW2, onto the next game on our list”.

Blind VS Aegis - "Apparent" Balance

Blind is both more powerful and more accessible than aegis. Single-target blinds make area of effect spells miss — I’m not sure about the logic behind that given that it’s possible to spam blinds every few seconds.

I don’t understand the logic either. If I have a giant death ball and I throw it at the ground and you are standing in its affect field … hmm, seems I’m blind and that somehow missed you … Not to mention that blind doesn’t work on magic skills in other games (B’m looking at Aion, its has blind for physical and bind for magic).

I guess this is why anet doesn’t have ritualests any more.

I hate this update: •Blindness: Fixed an issue that caused blind to be removed when an attack was used while not in range of any targets.

On auto attacks sure, but on activated skills that go on cd :/

This happened to me when I played my ele, my main pvp class since I gave up on the ranger (about a week after release). I ran the 0 0 10 30 30 build d/d while my friend ran the 0 0 10 30 30 build as staff ele. He still runs the same build today even though it got nerfed into the ground.

I switched out to 0 15 0 25 30 d/d with zerkers and everyone said I run the op dapheonix build. It was funny, because I could beat daphoenix build players. I believe that this was one of the variations the people called nerfs for d/d. That and the Valk setup. Where you give up the extra healing and defence for extra damage output.

I still play my ele, trying fresh air atm, not getting to far with it. Getting destroyed by necros, but that’s what happens when you don’t take condition cleansing.

Its good to see more necros on the scene, it sucks that everyone is flocking to run the same build. If they came up with something themselves… Reminds me of wow, when everyone ran warlocks in affliction and I ran a custom demonology build and destroyed everyone’s faces. Could solo 2 man arenas, ah, gold old times at bandit camp.

S/D, D/D, or Staff for 1v1?

1v1 dps, S/x
1v1 build in general, well my S/F dps build died horridly to a d/d build.
My S/F Selfish Aura build could beat them pre patch (lots of skill required) with certain amulets.

I still see staff as good for support so a x v x fight over a 1v1. Mind you my friend plays his staff well and has defeated my S/F selfish aura build and my S/F fresh air build (unless I’m really lucky).

/F is my personal preference. I enjoy using the focus, however in a 1v1 fight where your foe is not ranged (projectile range) a dagger offhand would be better suited.

Frost Bow 5 is an unmovable (unless fixed or physically destroyed) stun for 4 seconds.

2 people with Frost Bow 5, 4 and 3 is ridiculous in both pvp and pve.

Now watch as we make this bunker disappear!! TADAH!! It’s gone!!

D/D Burst Ele + S/D Condition Ele +2x frost bow = 8-10 second stun and well, in 8-10 seconds isn’t all that much you can do.

Armor of Earth trait + Aura Protection trait should really be 1 trait. AOE proc has 90 seconds cd and protection on auras isn’t that useful because with the stun aura you don’t even get hurt much anyway.

Stun aura doesn’t work against ranged. Though it does work against some sceptre skills I’ve noticed. I have a lot of stuff to test tonight, but I need to know what skill it is that is getting me stunned lol

I noticed & had heard in spvp about the vapour form now being delayed.
At least it`s not as bad kitten it used to be on spell 3 cast, but it`s just another case of “Ele` can escape in one extremely small portion of WvWs & nowhere else, let`s fix that asap”

All those crying that we could get through a door have won, just as they did with RTL, our heals, our defenses etc…

But hey, they can`t nerf us much more, can they?……

The odd thing I had never seen anyone complain about vapor form until a few days before the patch hit. I’m convinced that some out of left field complaint posts that slightly predate specific nerfs are someone in development trying to create cover for a nerf that no one wants or has asked for.

I complained about it, and there were a few threads around release that had the same complaints across most classes. Basically if you press 2 as you go down you waist your 2 downed skill.

I`ve seen loads of complaints from other classes that ele could get through doors, yet they never once mentioned how pathetically kitten the downed state is everywhere else in the game.

As for ele accidentally triggering it, I guess that helps those, but personally, I don`t bother even trying unless near a keep & not at all if in spvp or normal game zones, as it is the kittentest downed state there is. True, Engie has it bad too, but at least they have good damage.

Any of my bank alts (guardian, ranger, necro, mesmer, warrior & thief I know I`ve an easy mode compared to downed ele.

Everyone cries about eles running out then VF back in through the gate. But way back when the game came out people complained about waisting the interrupt (not that eles had an interrupt).

Has this change only affected WvW? Because I still waist my VF in spvp.

How to kill necro?

I hit them with a 7k dragons tooth, and they just full heal and proceed to take minimum damage. Think I’ve managed to beat 2. 1 I had help towards the end. The other died in my 2-4k/s downed field (lava tomb and grasping earth), got his heal through my mist form and landed on him for a second lava tomb.

Class Set Weapons / Armour.

That would be cool. So Mesmers would have illusion weapons, thieves shadow (that black smoke looking effect) weapons, Rangers would have that tree bow legendary lol but most importantly, Elementalists would have element based gear / weapons.

Doubt they will bring the out unless as legendary, due to people getting those instead of gold sinking into legendries.

I was hoping for elemenalist gloves that would change the effect. Either 1 that removes it, 1 that is the same as current and 1 that covers your whole arm in the element.

I would like the point on the boat. Since the underwater part would still exist, they could put an underwater secondary objective in.

Elementalists, no where, we do everything all the time, just really badly.

I think the best thing I’ve seen an ele do is staff support bunker. Dish out more heals then everyone bar the guardian. Stick 1 staff ele and another ele together and hey presto so many heals its not even funny.

I find the duration between changing attunements to be quite painful without points in arcane. ATM I’m running a build that could benefit more from 10 points in water over 10 in arcane, but I do find it hard to give up the points in arcane.

Another thing you can do while you wait for CD on your attunements is to whip out a frost bow, use skill 5, then 3 then 4 then drop and change attunement. Grab the second frost bow 30-40 sec again and repeat.

I noticed & had heard in spvp about the vapour form now being delayed.
At least it`s not as bad kitten it used to be on spell 3 cast, but it`s just another case of “Ele` can escape in one extremely small portion of WvWs & nowhere else, let`s fix that asap”

All those crying that we could get through a door have won, just as they did with RTL, our heals, our defenses etc…

But hey, they can`t nerf us much more, can they?……

The odd thing I had never seen anyone complain about vapor form until a few days before the patch hit. I’m convinced that some out of left field complaint posts that slightly predate specific nerfs are someone in development trying to create cover for a nerf that no one wants or has asked for.

I complained about it, and there were a few threads around release that had the same complaints across most classes. Basically if you press 2 as you go down you waist your 2 downed skill.

The current bug is when you have auto attack on, change attunement or try to “que” a skill / use an instant skill after. All of these will interrupt the 2 skills listed. Anet is aware of the bug as mentioned in the Elementalist live stream

What do you know about Eles?

I know I’ve been an Ele main in GW2 since day 1. I play everything except Warrior but the Ele is what I play when I want to come home, so to speak.

Why quote other professions’s opinion with no your own experience?

For parallax. I can tell you what I think (and I did, earlier in the thread) but the external perspective is useful as well.

I find it telling that everyone thinks everyone else is overpowered. That indicates to me that most people are myopic about their profession, and also that the balance is pretty good in this game. Far from perfect and ANet absolutely needs to continue to step up their game, but hysterically screaming about how UP we are is silly and just plain incorrect.

I agree with what you say here. I actually have Myopia, and those who don’t know what it is: Shot Sighted, you have to wear glasses 24/7 and can’t see anything in the distance without them. Everything short distance (book reading distance) is generally clear.

Back to elementalist. I have been playing ele since BW1. While I didn’t create my main ele toon till about a week or 2 after release (I work 2 jobs) I have played it since. Screaming that something is UP while others scream OP isn’t going to help anyone. To those screaming OP, come and play our class, to those screaming UP work on your build, don’t just copy paste someone else’s.

I was able to make a very powerful d/d build that wasn’t a dapheonix build (though I did take some guidance from his build, mainly changing 10 earth to 10 air). I’ve been able to find a place for the Frost Bow and Flaming Greatsword. My friend has been able to make a build around the flame axe and has run a very powerful staff build since day 1 of release without reading any guides or having someone spoon feed him a build.

Throwing away C/F because it doesn’t stun break anymore, boo hoo, how many of you used it as a stun break and not as a condition cleanse? I used it to apply burning and condition cleans, I rarely held it long enough to break stun.

Yeah PVP at the moment is made up of necros and their minions. It’s insane.

So many minons. Me and a friend were in hot join 5v5. There were so many npc’s it wasn’t funny, was hard to select a target. Mesmer clones, minon masters, rangers pet’s and thieves guilds / thieve npcs everywhere. Those dam zergers.

Perhaps Anet wants this game to be NvN. NPC vs NPC lol.

S/F Selfish Aura sPvP build

The build is interesting. And no I don’t intend to make a video sorry. This build was strong originally before the patch, but with the new builds coming out from other classes I would have to run it a lot more. Atm I’m playing around with a S/F burst fresh air build. Using the air cd then starting dragons tooth, into earth signet phoenix back to air for lightning strikes.

As the d/d has an extra aura, you can more easily maintain 100% protection, not to mention the d/d’s auras are much better. I like the sceptre combined with the focus as it destroys ranged classes. Its all about timing the blinds and defensive abilities. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this at the start but I play mainly hot join 5v5s with one of my friends. We had a tpvp team a long time ago (when staff eles were almost invulnerable). I have played this build in a few tourneys as bunker.

This build lacks a lot of condition cleans (earth 4 and that’s it). Its built to defeat projectile classes and deal with heavier hits (due to a large access to protection). The focus also takes away from the dagger’s movement on RTL. There is also a lack of vigor, so using all your defensive moves at once is a no no. Timing your defences is the best option.

Remember there are a lot of defences, 3 blinds, 1 long duration immobilize, lots of access to protection, destroy projectiles, reflect projectile (also removes conditions), a kd and invulnerability (if needed, this prevents you from capping though).

Again, as I said earlier, I will have to run this more with the new builds emerging. I did enjoy this build pre patch but have been playing around with other builds since. I have also ran into a lot of builds that run conditions so wether the condition removal will be enough is another story.

As to S/F eles, I am the only one I’ve seen except when my friend ran the same build as me to troll spvp lol and in a few tourneys. He usually runs staff support build for mid points.

Sluggish Skills?

I have been feeling irritated with some skills not “flowing” like they used to. I have also noticed this on attunement change, sometimes I will be trying to hit Shift 1 (change to fire) then 2 – 3 in fire and will actually still be in earth :/.

Not to mention that for some godforsaken reason I keep getting stuck in chat. I assume its something to do with the shift click mechanics, if only I could disable it. I don’t need to link skills in pvp. And I’m not sure if I’m clicking skills out of habit or if this is randomly linking when trying to use skills quickly.

[Question for Devs]
Is there any love intended for the focus. The focus being one of my personal favourite weapons from the elementalist arsenal. Currently there are some skills that most of us focus users believe could use some changes.

Fire 5, Fire Sheild has such a long CD for such a mediocre skill. Fire 4 Flamewall is currently bugging out.

Water 5, Comet is a daze and thus a interrupt but its time to hit makes it require you to predict interrupt or use it as a daze (and hope the foe doesn’t walk out of the way).

Air 5, Gale is not in line with the other weapons 5 air ability. A blowout dodge on 40 second in dagger, an aoe 2sec stun field for 4 second on 40 sec cd on the staff. This is a 2 sec kd but on a 50 sec cd. Is that due to the 30 Air trait Grounded?

Edit: I’m pretty sure this has to hit a target to even get the blind aoe. So if you miss (due to not having a target, dam thieves) the aoe won’t go off.

Alright cool thx. I tend to run with 10 point in fire to grant might when I use my cantrips so that I don’t have to use em defensively since I tend to be on the offense most of the time.

This is what I used to do when EA lost its blast finishers (all of them).

Fire Grab → Teleport (during) → Cleansing Fire on arrival. If your quick enough that is 9 might (3 for changing) and a 900 ranged fire grab with the extra damage from burning (due to CF active)
