Why Raid Asc. vendor not requite crafting?

TexZero.7910

While I approve that ANet is acting to preserve the value of crafting mats, they should not have exempted raid Ascended.

They aren’t exempted, they are subject to just as many restrictions as the other systems. Namely the weekly currency lockout.

The only current problem with the system is the average time & cost across each mode isn’t nearly close enough to what it should be, but that’s not a raid issue that’s an economic issue.

Why Raid Asc. vendor not requite crafting?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

TexZero.7910

yes, why people who play fractals or pvp need also to do 500lv crafting and spend 60g on materials + fractal/pvp things. And people who raid can get ascended staff only from their tokens, no crafting, no extra cost?

Because, raiding is limited by design and already has a required extra gold cost. Tokens themselves have a market value as some items from raids can be sold. Also, its not cost efficient to buy anything outside of trinkets for raids.

Update the Dungeons?

TexZero.7910

What rose said. Basically, mentally scrub out the word “fractal” and write in “dungeon without personal story attached”, and bam, you have the design path that anet followed here.

That was somewhat true up until the point where they suddenly decided that fractals for some reason need to be a “stepping stone to raids”.

Now dungeons, fractals and raids all follow different paths and serve different roles. Except, of course, that, while Fractals are still alive, and Raids are on the peak of developer attention, dungeons are dead.

Really gonna complain about a system that has scaling difficulty being harder as you progress ?

Do T3 if you can’t handle T4 (and T4 is hardly a challenge)

What Ventari is missing

in Revenant

Posted by: TexZero.7910

TexZero.7910

What they need to do to fix the clunkyness of the tablet is very simple:

I will give another game character example, Oriana, from league of legends. She carry a metal ball and throw it in places, and then use skill that come from the metal ball, exactly like the Ventari tablet.
If the Ventari had the option to absorb the tablet and then every utility that he uses would come from where the revenant stands, but still having the option to send the tablet, it would be miles better, you could sent heals allies far away, but if you keep together with your allies you dont need to worry about the tablet position as he would be “inside” your character.
Having the tablet travel time + the delay from the heals make it really bad on pve with a really heavy moviment combat (which is one of the strong points of gw2 )

I’d go more Taric(re-work) over Ori.

It works better for not only a mechanical change but keeps the thematic of ventari in mind as well. If Rev could place the Tablet’s knowledge with a trusted ally and then have the effects proc at it’s location and the target ally’s location this would just flow smoother for overall gameplay and increase the thematic continuity. It would obviously need some cooldown/energy cost adjustments but it is what it is.

New Raid-Composition with higher DPS

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: TexZero.7910

TexZero.7910

Can you reasonably explain why anyone would take that, over a Condi PS which would not only bring the same might capabilities but more damage…..

The idea is that you replace the Magi Druid (1k) + Condi PS (27.4k) with Condi Ranger (33.5k) + Might Druid (1k).

My biggest concern with this strategy is your GotL uptime. You lost all GotL stacks all over that video and contributed poorly to its uptime with very low CA generation, which is a major net raid DPS loss. Magi staff Druid guarantees that your raid has 5 stacks 100% of the time.

Okay, point still stands. At no point is the rangers 33.5k contribution required (any other class can fill this dps spot). What people do want is buff uptime, which even this might druid build and video was lacking.

Might just be me, but i’m not seeing a realistic reason to have such a build used within the party unless someone is just at Ranger OTP, and if that’s the point there’s plenty of viable ranger builds for them to pick from to be a part of a raid group (so much so that there’s 0 need to pigeonhole yourself into a sub-par build).

That’s forcing, not encouraging you kitten. Besides, any exp raider can foretell how disastrous it would be. Think b4 you talk.

If you get any random Joe then yes it will be a disaster, get people who play those classes most of the time and it’ll be perfectly fine.

If 10 people cannot pump out over 50k DPS between them something is going hilariously wrong and it isn’t the fault of the classes.

Let me spell it out for you cause u dont kitten get the point. It’s worse than the “pidgeonhole” meta we have atm. That’s how bad it is. I don’t care if people could pull qt numbers on each profession…its just bad and 100% forced. At least now a few classes change depending on the encounter.

Yea. Forcing particular comps would be a really bad move by ANet.

Especially some sort of comp that doubled up professions. Like some sort of reflection comp.

B) Clearly haven’t seen the 10 X class raid video’s

You are if you want EA on both sub-groups and if you want might uptime to be optimal as Condi PS cannot by itself do the lifting and neither can “might druid” as it requires fire fields to be blast even more than PS warrior of any build does.

New slayer achievements (minor spoiler)

You’re reading far too much into statements.

Killing X for no reason is fluff. That’s what slayer, weapon master and drinking/eating achievements are. Fluff, they serve no purpose towards advancing any point or narrative of the character, they are there to be an artificial time sink. If that doesn’t scream of Fluff to you then fine, but you cannot deny that Anet has been trending far and away from this type of achievement ever since the release of HoT.

TexZero.7910

And yet not all achievements need to be “meaningful” (even though that depends on who you ask as to which ones are meanigful in the first place). Personally, I much prefer achievements like slayer and weapon master ones because I don’t have to work at them. I’m just playing the game, and suddenly a popup that tells me I completed something that I wasn’t intentionally working towards. That’s a well designed achievement. A good game needs achievements like that.

The new one is basically a quest. Its hidden behind achievement and collection form, but its nothing more of a quest in GW2. While yes its a good achievement, and any good game deserves lots of achievements like it, its not nearly as much fun to have to specifically work towards it to get it. A healthy game needs both types of achievements, just because you don’t prefer the former is not a good reason to not make new ones.

I don’t know how you jumped to what i like when i’m stating based on current trending history. But okay….

Likely because the slayer achievements serve no real function and the newer sets of achievements are all functionality based.

in which case is , or was “white mantle slayer” not functionally based with the current LW episode?

In what case is slaying thousands of creatures for a +2AP functionally worth the time of creating or for players to do ?

By counterpoint, see today’s update and the reforging Caladbolg which has a function and apt rewards. This is the pattern Anet has been trending towards for a while. Not fluff kill x achievements.

Small notes, but slayer achievements give 16 AP each, not 2. And why shouldn’t they be implemented. They are perfect medium-long term goals, which in turn is perfect for an achievement.

The point AP is pretty much irrelevant, the main meat of it is the trend toward meaningful gameplay achievements, not things you throw your face into or exploit to finish.

That’s great and all, but raids are not about your high fantasy desires. Practicality reigns supreme there. Greatsword on Necro is not practical on any of the currently designed fights. Trying to compare Greatsword on Necro to that of Warrior is a bad analogy due to how well Warrior Greatsword is. Even then it’s losing its own favor due to again fight design. You can use it on a number of bosses sure, but groups are adapting and learning to bring Condi PS instead.

Remind me again what raids where shipped as again ….

Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns™, introduces the ultimate challenge: our first raid, which is made up of three distinct raid wings. Raids are 10-player, instanced, elite dungeon content that’s a challenge unlike anything we’ve previously released in Guild Wars 2. These raids are meant to put you and your teammates to the test and challenge you to grow your skills as Guild Wars 2 players. Raids are our answer to what skilled PvE players have to look forward to at endgame—the ultimate test to overcome and defeat.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

TexZero.7910

Remember, that you’re likely surrounding yourselves with people whose skill is way above average, which seem to significantly skew your perspective. Most new players struggle with t1 when they start playing fractals. Put them in t4 immediately, and they will get slaughtered (learning nothing in the process).

Yes, there are people that could do that. These people are likely already raiding, or could start at current difficulty mode with no problems. They are not for whom easy mode would be made.

Yes, for people that do not need it, the easy mode would be mostly useless. They are however not the only players in the game. You seem to keep forgetting that.

One could easily argue the opposite, that it’s your perspective that is skewed since you put very little emphasis on learning and improving through the methods that exist.

Ignoring the laughable perspective argument lets focus on the claims of a new player.

Raids are and Endgame content, they are not meant for new people. Fractals are also endgame content. If people struggle with fractals, that means they have not put enough time in to understand their classes strengths and weaknesses. They should (if we follow your logic) go play the open world or dungeons to actually gain the skills required. Once they have the basics no T1 or T2 fractal should ever be a “challenge” and the only bottleneck will occur in T3 where the skill ranges will vary between those who can do more but don’t have the AR and Those who have the AR but lack the minor mechanical necessities or foresight to bring the proper tools to succeed. Either way, those players still are not ready for endgame content.

See the problem ?

You may keep denying that, but it’s exactly how most of the fractal players learned to do t4’s.

I’d say no, that’s not how fractal players learned how to do T4. The only reason preventing players from jumping to T4 directly is because they are missing AR. I’m quite positive the vast majority (if not all) players with enough AR jumped directly to T4 Nightmare and Chaos without first “trying” the T1 version to get experience.

I can vouch for that. Most people who had never touched fractals in my guild, but had enough gold to blow on infusions jumped into whatever tier run they could when we ran them frequently.

No, you see you’re confusing two issues.

You too can raid with 0 LI’s. You just can’t join a group and expect for that group to carry you in a raid when they want people who’ve been there and done that.

Start creating your own group with your own restrictions or lack of and raid however the heck you want.

So your sentence is basically means that:
1. There is almost nonexistent number of groups without ridiculous LI requirements, so low that new players are forced to create a group by themselves, while being completely unexperienced, because there is a NO other valid choice.
2. Because of 1, community is making a training raids. Just because, you know, new player will likely say “kitten this” and leave instead of trying to smash his head against a wall for hours without a meaningful result, and without new players raiding community will die.
3. For some mysterious, and probably even magical reason, raid developers are still thinking that this situation is normal and somehow there will be a lot (hundreds? thousands?) of new raiders who is stubborn enough to farm 50+ LI in training runs and selfmade groups with zero raiding experience. Such a bright future indeed.

I don’t know how you drew such conclusions. I’ll just leave it at this… If the number of people who complained about “LFG requirements” all banded together and started their own no-rep, no-req groups instead of coming to the forums the problem would likely be solved faster than any technical work anet could do to attempt to appease you.

The difficulty of the Bastion of the Penitent

TexZero.7910

Everyone in the raid community started at the same point. Some had a deep understanding of their class, others did not. Either way, knowledge of the encounters was minimal, optimal group compositions were unknown.

A new player wanting to get into raids can do just that: form their own group of inexperienced players and tackle the raids. These players are now at an advantage though, as all the theorycrafting has established optimal strategies and compositions, and there are plenty of video guides to get people started, practice, and get better. Of course, this experience can be punishing, especially when faced with 9 other players of different skill, and different willingness to improve, take initiative, etc.

Hence, training raids were born, where experienced raiders try to create a safer learning experience, with the goal that trainees, once they’re comfortable with mechanics, go out and find a static raid team.

Except that in other games everything is already set up properly, so new players can start their raiding without relying heavily on community training runs. Like, you know, proper learning curve trough all encounters, after which player can actually handle normal raiding by himself, and because of that, raiding groups are asking only for basic experience (aka achievement) and decent gear.
Unlike gw2, where you are expected to have like a 50 various boss kills to qualify for a first raid boss, and 200+ for a last one. Oh, and 100+ for a boss in completely new raid wing, because we can.

No, you see you’re confusing two issues.

You too can raid with 0 LI’s. You just can’t join a group and expect for that group to carry you in a raid when they want people who’ve been there and done that.

Classic case of missing the point.

If you don’t want to be around people who use tools inappropriately, then be the better person and don’t group with those people.

It’s not a hard concept. It’s a case of policing yourself/community. Anet can still intervene if its really needed but there’s something to be said about avoiding conflict by group with similar types of players rather than constantly coming to blows over the misguided use of information from two players acting immaturely.
