After 6 Months and VG to 14-18% is rather long… Even our 2nd raid group took him down after about 2-3 weeks which consisted mostly of casuals.

The problem is that the last 10-20% are the hardest. I don’t want to shatter your dreams but if people are still getting ported away after 6 months of trying, I would question the ability of your group. Still, good luck to all of you!

I doubt its the ability of the group.
I’d actually put this on the group lead if anything.
Most groups suffer this fate when learning and its actually quite common. What’s needed is good leadership and reminders not to tunnel vision. If everyone does their part the group would likely be fine.

all just hear say at best with fake leaked stuff that leads to noting at all!! not only that

but if that was real and not something leaked or fake . i will not spend one penny on

that at all .and i will unstall the game fully . that would be something i would not

want in this game at all. and if i want to play mario i will play mario on my wii and so

forth but not in this game at all ever !!

Just for clarity, this is in the game already. It’s the Super Adventure Box festival that occurs in April. The OP was being tongue-in-cheek about an expac based on it.

oh that i never do that junky Super Adventure Box festival do not like it think it should

not be in the game at all

Good thing about SAB is that it’s an instance that has no effect on the playerbase who has no interest in SAB.

Yea, i dont know why, i always try it but i never get into SAB. Its probably the event i mostly hate, i avoid it completely mostly. Good thing is it doesnt affect on anything the game, well maybe i lose the chance of earning those cool skins but thats about it.

I’m exactly the same, I hate it but it has no effect on my gameplay what so ever so I don’t care, if only dueling could be implemented the same way…….

Except that devs already complained how much effort it is to make a single sab map.
As a result, it does affect us. It takes several devs a month or longer to make on map. All that effort couldve gone to ls3, current events, or expansion.. I dunno.. actual content

It is content, just not appealing content to us. Not all content appeals to all players but with instances it doesn’t really bother anyone who doesn’t care about it, just provides more options to have fun to those that are interested.

Okay, what if the devs started focussing on a different instance, once where everyone is turnt into a quaggan or skritt, and then you have to fight a pink elder dragon who breathes rainbow, while all music is replaced wth trap music. Oh, and you have to walk and act on a beat otherwise you get knocked down.

Do you think “hey anet, thanks for the content that took you a lot of effort to make and took away on production of the main game” or do you think “what the skritt, anet??”

I have NOTHING against minigames, but they need to make sense.. they need to fit in the game. Crab Toss fits in the game, Southsun Survival fits in the game, Zephyrite Sprint fits in the game.
Seasonal events; Wintersday and Halloween fit in the game.
SAB does not fit in the game. Using crowbars b hole was torn in the game and SAB was painfully jabbed in

Actually, if you read into the lore and history behind SAB, it fits the game perfectly. Just because you do not enjoy a piece of content does not mean it does not fit and should not be developed.

As to your hyperbolic hypothetical: I’d play that content in a heartbeat.

I enjoyed it, though the first time. It was new, it was a joke, it was fun. But it’s no longer a joke, people think it’s part of the core game now, and demand more effort put into it. People really need to get over the fact it was just an april fools joke all those years ago. (Have the memberberries gotten to this game?)

For a while, it was billed as a core component to the game after the intial release. During the “Back to School” release, the same year as the original April launch, the backstory to the content advanced in the form of an “unlockable cutscene”, so to speak, which foreshadowed further expansion. This further expansion, however, was canceled when SAB was converted into a yearly festival, starting this year; it should be noted that the festival return was after a three year gap since the previous release, after multiple promises of return.

If you’re going to disparage content, at least research it first.

The further updates weren’t canceled. They merely stated they couldn’t provide a w3 or w4 this time around due to time constraints. The time constraints were in place because they had to re-build w1/2 and the lobby due to the camera changes that went in.

They very well could add a w3/4 in the future as part of the festival.

If you’re getting titled by green ciricles its best to learn their spawn pattern and rate. Additionally you need to tell this to whoever you assign to green ciricles – Get there and Survive first, DPS second.

If you being teleported, your melee stack needs to learn the golden rule of dodge or max melee.

For seeker control this usually falls (atleast when i raid) to our engies and druids, if one should for whatever reason spawn in melee DH can clear it with Banish.

Philosophic question about "skill"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TexZero.7910

TexZero.7910

the key word is ‘exploit’ identifying a flaw in logic and exploiting that flaw is not skill, in fact it usually indicates an ‘easier’ way of doing something so quite the opposite of skill.

Identifying a flaw is skill. Using it to your advantage is also a skillful display of tactics.

It may not confine to the rules, but that is another story entirely.

Can someone find me an MMORPG that you can do 3x more damage when buffed or is this only a thing in Guild Wars 2?

I’d say its actually fairly common place.
Depends on the game itself though, some replace buffs with weapon enhancements/sockets. Others do it with set effects/bonuses, some do all 3. Some even have stacking party buffs to some degree (either additive or most cases multiplicative). It just depends on the game and dev.

The reason i’d say its common place especially so in MMO’s, is that it helps provide for that feeling of overcoming content as a group, making that slightly easier by providing unique group mechanics. Ex FFXIV has a weird sorta comp that is absurdly bursty much like GW2 it features stacking 1 class and bringing your tank of choice and party supports. It looks something like this 1 AST, 1 War, 1 Drag, 4x Machin. (fill whatever else is needed). Why does this work, the known classes bring buffs while the stacked classes bring BURST, so much burst that it is possible outright skip phases or fight mechanics.

It would be nice and consistent, if we are going to have a node for one of the currencies, that we should have nodes for all of them.

If its anything, I do have a converter, that changes 25:10 currencies. So I can drop 25 aurilium and airship salvage for 20 leyline crystals.. which is honestly more than you get from a chestrun

No its not.

The chest can give you anywhere from 1-50. There’s easily 7 chest on a simple route, more if you want to take longer. You’re more than likely going to roll 3+ every time meaning you’ll make more than 20 per run. Additionally its character based so you can do this multiple times a day, where as the converter is a once a day limit.

What kind of demon are you praying to, to get that much luck on your chest rolls? 1-50? don’t you mean 1-5? only 1:10 chests give crystals, and it’s usually 3 or 5 crystals.
Are we even playing the same game?

Apparently not, as i have no issue and you do.

I agree. And it eventually damages a game.

So, instead…

Action:
Make harder content for people that like challenge. Create rewards for said content.

Consequence:
People that can’t get it done, demand the another version of it because “I paid for the game too”

Action:
Ignore them.

Result:
People that actually PAYING for the game leaving due to the lack of content. Anet getting worst financial results ever.

And how this is better, eh?

Aren’t you the guy who said the paying people already left ?

At this moment we’re still at the “ignore them” stage. Some people left, but they may yet return. Others haven’t left yet, but aren’t paying anymore – and eventually will leave if this continues.

Not according to the guy who quotes every earnings report ever for HoT here and blames the decline on solely on Raids.

But i guess you just want to ignore that part of his history for your own amusement ?

We’ve all been there, done that, and in the end didn’t consider it a good thing.

(as a side note, hearing Runescape called “ancient” suddenly made me feel really old…)

So why are you here asking for a new mode of raiding, a gametype you actively dislike ?

Wouldn’t your time be better spent asking for equivalent rewards from a new source ….Say Legendary Armor from WvW instead ?

And please spare me the, but look how long its taking for raiding excuse. It would take them just as much time to completely rebuild raiding from the ground up as it would to make new rewards that are a good quality.

Raids in GW2

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: TexZero.7910

TexZero.7910

Go do Fractals, PVP or WvW instead. Those were GW2’s original endgame and they drop ascended gear. You will find those things more skill based than Raids, PUG friendly, More Entertaining and fun.

Raids is not about skill, its about being “Sociable”. You must be willing to use VOIP, actively talk, be funny and not quiet. It also requires you to use Meta builds esp if you plan on PUGing it. When you finally find a team and beat an entire wing in less than an hour or so in your first try, you would be like “That was it? pfft…”

Only do raids if you really want that Raid Legendary Armor which is used, according to raiders for GW2’s true endgame, for WvW, since you can change stats.

I mean sure, it’s like that if you get carried through after people figure out the mechanics. The same can be said for any content though. For raiders a bulk of the fun came from trying, failing, learning and refining the fights to get to that point. It should come as no surprise that now good groups have raids down to being glorified 10 man dungeons.

If things are meant to be projectiles, then player skills that manipulate them need to matter/be more relevant.

The Meta Should be a Lie

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: TexZero.7910

TexZero.7910

There’s no way that adding more different builds will make it easier to balance the game. Because now there are more builds that ANet has to make sure are relatively equal.

And there will always be a meta. The meta is player created. There will always be one build or one team composition that will be the most efficient and that will be the build or team composition used. The only variations typically accepted are ones that don’t fall too far behind the top build or team comp.

Indeed, but if some meta is to much and is carying more the players then the players carries the build it should be changed, there should a shorter gap between Meta and non meta.

This is an oxymoron. You cannot make a difference gap smaller between things being optimal or not.

It’s like asking for Rabid to be on par with Viper’s. One is finely tuned to have a defensive stat set, the other is a glass cannon. The same applies to traits. Something will always be best in slot, nothing short of a complete system overhaul will fix this, however in doing so you will eliminate diversity in the process as you’ll end up with a homogeneous system in its place.

TexZero.7910

The instance owner and overlay issues are bugs. They’ll get resolved sometime between now and next week (Yay holidays).

If you’re still feeling impatient you can do them with a friend and just swap out who owns the instance. Owner sits out and progresses story bits, then after the scroll part tags the boss (for safety sake from range do about 2k damage) and just hide after that. Its the easiest way to get Stay Unfrosty in its current form. Rinse repeat till you & your friend both have the achievement.

For the sub 5 minute achievement, just uh….work on lining up the charge to take out multiple servants (you can use displacement effects to line them up). Then it should be nothing more than quick DPS.

All of this ignored the people, not gameplay, issue: People will not group with you if you do not have the exact build, equipment, and upgrades that they consider “correct”. So having an “easy” one to do is rendered moot by being unable to access ANY of the raid content.

You dont need any specific build for that fight. Just 10 people who want to do the encounter. If you have any friends who do have the cleansing water mastery&leyline gliding they can be the group that does towers.

Also, learn to start your own groups. If you don’t like how some people run their groups, be an agent of change and lead your own with your own rules. It’s a novel concept.

I remember a time when people who really cared about lore in games, played the games.

It is a shame how the culture of games has shifted to playing to the game to demanding the game change to fit you as a person instead.

It’s not a shame, because that has never happened. The games at that time fit the people playing them the same as they do now – it’s just they were meant for a much smaller population. When your target for a major game was in tens of thousands of players at best, you could make them as hardcore as you wanted. When that target increased however, the gaming studios soon found out that there simply weren’t enough players that were interested – and that if they wanted more, they had to make those games more inclusive.

TL/DR: there was never really a case where players changed to fit a game.

This has what to do with lore exactly ?

Either you want the lore and you’ll play the PvE content that has it, or you play the forum game.

You already have said content in both BSF and ROF.

You can mindlessly zerg definetly not VG for a champ bag, and definitely not Sloth for a champ bag.

Additionally, what you call tone deaf is what others call great. Not every piece of content needs to be watered down to the point that it contradicts is design. Raids are designed to be the hardest content in the game such that it requires a bit more than average dedication. There’s nothing wrong with this, however there is a lot wrong with pandering to the perception that everything needs to be for everyone and that those players deserve equal rewards for minimal effort. Which is exactly why those other games raids are a joke.

Boons could be punished a lot harder such that building for boons becomes unfavorable, just like building for vulnerability or blind. Then players are left with closer to solo dps and balance becomes easier.

That’s not the point. Boons are integral to combat in the game and are accurately balanced around, not only that by solo dps isn’t what you should ever strive for in group content.

Raid Diversity is now Dead

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: TexZero.7910

TexZero.7910

Boon-sharing is a problem. Bosses can ignore some conditions and are more easily tuned but players are less controllable.

If bosses regularly corrupted or wiped player boons, then the boon-share dps scaling would drop. Boss health could be trimmed to compensate.

You’d think so…

But Sloth & KC both have boon striping mechanics and it doesn’t do much.

Boonshare is far from the problem. The problem with diversity when it comes to meta is overloaded kits as far as damage, group utility, group healing/failsafe. If you look at the classes that are constantly bouncing in and out of meta favor they usually are balanced on a knife edge and have something in there that brings them above the fail safe of ele/warrior/mes/druid which are staples (and even the ele part is debatable).

Yeah but again. The first Raid shouldn’t be so difficult that every Boss takes 600+ Wipes just to kill it, it should be there to get People comfortable into the Concept of Raiding, but in Future Anet should release really hard Raid Encounters where it takes really long to kill the Boss. ( But pls not due to some cheesy Things like RNG deciding which Mechanic comes now ). First Raid itself has the right difficulty, we just need more Raids that are more Challenging ( and a better PvE Balance :P )

Or people could just play a game where that sort of thing is expected, and leave it out of Guild Wars 2 entirely.

Funny, couldn’t the same be said of your literally handing out participation awards method ? Or your pro easy mode push ?

Odd how you resort to opting to silence people who disagree instead of having a civil discussion and understanding that people aren’t going to agree with you at every turn.
