Air autoattack with the scepter lasts most of the duration of stealth and will point out the location of the thief.

Is this true? Air autoattack on the scepter will still hit a stealthed thief? it hits like a wet noodle so if it actually homes in on a stealthed player that would be great but I have yet to test this out.

I have my doubts it will work though… just saying.

Let the thief have a permanent stealth. And let the Thief have a party or allie buffs that last for 15min that can see the hiding object. It will not hurt why? Because you gain a lot of benefits while you are on a permanent stealth. Let the thief trap there own class…

Hell no. It’s bad enough as it is at the moment and you’re suggesting permanent stealth? What happens when you aren’t running with a thief in you group? Some people do not always run with the zerg in WvW.

I have ever class at 80(except Guardian) and play them all, Thief/Eng more than others
I know how to play a thief. And maybe you should L2P other classes before you ever use L2P again. Because not all classes have a combo in the auto attack chain. So to you I say L2NotoveruseL2P replies like every other poser on the forums.

They do all have combat logs though. In any case, when a melee thief stealths, his or her ideal target is your back, so common sense dictates, ready yourself to react to surprise back attacks. When a P/D stealths, be ready to evade, you’ll avoid most of the sneak attack, and then you can kite them to avoid letting them CnD again.

What a horrible design, so while trying to combat a thief you’re supposed to keep looking at your combat log on the off chance you’ll hit him? That’s just silly. Sure it works but its a silly design.

When I play a scepter dagger build on my elementalist my auto attacks need a target and I can’t swtich once the thief engages. So basically I’m screwed.

So I have to sit there and wait until he hits me, he won’t unstealth unless he causes damage then I can autoattack for the few seconds he is revealed. My damaging spell ‘Arc lightning’ builds up in damage so it tickles him before he re-stealths and unleashes another 3k hit.

with blackpowder +heartseeker they can restealth every 6 seconds. So really they can perma stealth has much as they like.

gg Anet, nice class design. Perhaps they expect every elementalist to go D/D? that’s boring.

Now there is a new build out there they works of heartseeking through a smokebomb to stealth you. That’s every 6 seconds. Its called the perma stealth build and it basically means you are fighting an invisible enemy you can’t target.

Anet really needs to look into this. Its not like nearly every GW2 forum is filled with thief hate already, and for good reason to.

That’s not a new build, but requires a thief to go at least 20 into acrobatics and 10 into shadow arts to maintain the initiative to do so (the combo costs 8 in total I believe, 2/3 of our total pool) effectively taking a lot of burst out of the thief. As to what you were originally commenting on, a lot if people say that thieves abuse stealth/culling and are in fact holding players accountable for a problem that they had no control over, especially if they wanted to play a certain way (not S/P or unicorn bleed). It should be understandable that thieves would be defensive about ourselves especially when we are simply using the abilities available to us.

firstly, its a shame people blaming thieves for the culling issue, but I can see how annoying it is when you lose target and only get a very small window of opportunity to actually hit the thief.

As for the build I was talking about, I agree it does drop the burst of a thief. Burst has never really been that much of a problem. The main problem with that build is you can’t see or target the thief 90% of the time and while invis the thief is healing so basically he/she always sits on 100% health. I think perhaps a warrior could guess a 100 blades and get lucky. But for some class that can’t swing wildly around i.e. scepter or staff elementalists/ bow rangers/ scepter guardians you can’t do a single thing to stop your death, even running away isn’t an option with a thieves mobility.

Stealth has always been the tricky mechanic with MMO’s, not a single game I have played has got it right since it gives the player such a clear advantage when you’re invisible.

Things they should change: If a thief attacks they should be revealed on a miss as well – stop with this carebear attitude of only letting them do damage first before revealing them. If someone manages to evade a stealthed attack let them be rewarded for getting the timing right. It should go both ways. Its basic game design – reward players for doing something right.

Increase the reveal effect. A few seconds is barely enough when you mix in the thieves mobility, culling, lag. No more allowing thieves to reset fights after a few seconds. that’s rubbish.

burst damage is high but I can live with that. Allow them to attempt an opening, burst you down to low health then fight it out. None of this restealth then repeat. Thieves need to start earning their kills, they have had it on easymode for too long.

just because culling delays that, is not our fault !!!

no one said it was your fault. Why would anyone blame a player for a known issue. The problem is it exists and therefore they should fix the problem, or adjust the revealed effect so that it actually does reveal the thief.

There are plenty of video examples of this happening with developer replies saying its because of the culling issue. I’m not making things up here, most people know about it as does the developers.

There is something screwy with queue times and the amount of people that a team can currently field. I believe its well below previous weeks.

I have friends on JQ and its not just the problem of numbers or coverage its getting the right people into the maps. Not just under-leveled pugs looking for map completion or node farming but solid groups of guild members.

This strange occurrence is hurting JQ, they haven’t been able to get their zerg’s running at full potential. I’m from SoS so I know what its been like over the last two weeks since they got all the new guilds in. Perhaps I’m wrong and they are flagging this week.

I don’t care too much about the insane damage thieves do. Even though its over the top I’ll let them have it. BUT the stealth needs a rework. allowing perma stealth thieves to exist it just stupid. Sure allow them to stealth now and again but not every few seconds. If I thief comes out of stealth to attack let them take the risk for that. and if someone manages to guess where a thief is let them knock the thief out of stealth.

keep the damage, rework the stealth.

Thief would need an increase in damage and max health if they had stealth nerfed.

it wouldn’t be a nerf as much as an adjustment or workaround to deal with culling. At the moment thieves are allow to get off a number of free hits without appearing. Perhaps the reveal debuff should be increase to compensate for Anet poor culling problems.

the revealed effect is only 3 seconds, take off a few for culling and you basically have one second to target them before they land another backstab combo on you. Some classes don’t have melee attacks and can’t spam to even hit a stealthed thief.

this compounded with the issue is even if you do put up some kind of defense against a thief, it will not reveal them unless that backstab hits.

basically most thief fights are you dodging around blinding, putting on defenses, dropping same AoE fields around your feet waiting to get blown up. After that one second you get to hit them they vanish and reposition themselves (while gaining initative), you have to repeat the same stupid cycle before another crazy backstab hits you.

actually I’m not even sure an adjustment to the revealed effect would be enough.

you just named the 3 assassin classes. They are all fragile classes which using kiting and trickery to negate damage.

I will admit though that the stealth ability on the mesmer and thief is complete BS. I don’t have a thief but I do play a mesmer and it feels cheap. At least with mistform you know where they are going. Why Anet hasn’t allowed people to knock players out of stealth is mental. At least reward the player for guessing right.

what? roaming D/D ele are great 1v1. I guess you’re talking about burst damage. They aren’t at the same level as thieves or shatter mesmers but they do ok with their combo.

not a huge fan of WvW so dont worry about that.

that’s where this class truly shines. backstabbing stealth, culling bug – its all in your favour and you don’t even have to be that good. No one can see you or target you half the time.

Lol, ye someone high in the development or his kid (as stated before) has a thief for main.

this is true, the weekends normally are far different from the week. JQ never did very well during the weekend, but they certainly show their numbers during the week.

Sadly JQ is dead the new face will be JQueue.

JQueue won this week, but was it really a victory? Did you fight hard for every tower and keep? Was your lead threatened and you had to put in the extra hours till your eyes hurt? Did you ever think to yourself i dont know who is going to win its so close? Do we have enough points to last the hours our forces dwindle?

Another thing why JQueue may fizzle, why did i transfer to a server i can not even play on. You have had dozens of guilds thats member numbers can be in the 100s transfer and you dont think that this is a problem?
I just hope that some of the regulars can step a foot in on Fri night.
Get in early JQueuers because you may not get a chance till later in the week.

Hope to see you all on reset.

It’s a victory if you consider the 1000g the paid for each guild to come across. Victory for those guilds

So you’re saying that because SoS is outnumbered right now, they should just give up and quit? Hmmm…JQ has been outnumbered plenty in the past, and we’ve never given up. We faced HoD multiple times, and improved consistently…even when outnumbered and getting beaten on. It’s called being resilient, and it is a necessity for remaining in T1 for the long run. We’re all going to find out what kind of server SoS is in the coming weeks and months.

I don’t think giving up is the right answer, but if guilds want to take a break so be it. The last couple of months have been fun.

You mention getting beaten by HoD for weeks then SoS, to keep coming back and taking a beating week after week is either a testament to your resolve or you’re a sucker for punishment, maybe a bit of both. I would of liked to see what would of happened if the numbers stayed the same they did last week when things were even. we were heading for a few months of close games. Shame it hasn’t panned out that way with even more bandwagoners. I doubt we will see what happened last week for a long time.

I wouldn’t mind at all if SoS dropped down to tier 2 for next weeks match. Let BG, SOR fight against JQ. I think Tier 1 would be better off having 3 servers hungry for a win. SoS would be better suited dropping down, regrouping, chilling out for a couple of weeks. This reset couldn’t of come at a better time.

I have no idea what the size of SoR is currently but it would be nice if another server could match the size of JQ zergs. It’s clearly obvious SoS and BG even if they teamed up still would struggle against JQ’s numbers.

Thief is the most bs class though due to stealth. Their damage is very high but its the way they can always get into stealth which is the main reason for all the QQ you see on the forums.

The key is burst, but patience with burst. Force the ele into a situation where they must mist form prematurely. Then burst.

I have fought alongside Tysm and against EMP. Some amazing battles and Keep/garrison defences.

IMHO, They are two very fine teams. I hope they both stay in GW2 for a long time.

I agree, don’t know anything about EMP except for they are on JQ but I have played along side Tysm. A good bunch with smart commanders.

You can’t really say you dethroned SoS by transferring 2000 players to your server when at best SoS outnumbered you 9:8 previously…lol.

That entire premise, HoD redux, was what SoS was attempting to avoid when free transfers were announced.

It is a pity that JQ did not.

There are an awful lot of emotional responses from SoSers. Pot meet kettle? You outnumber us, and it’s all good bro…we outnumber you, and now all of a sudden, it’s a major problem. LOL. Adapt or die.

lol its never been “its all good bro” more like “SoS just use their massive zerg and coverage to win”.

all that is happening now is the names have been switched around. No longer is it the SoS zerg ball, its the JQ zerg ball.

imo the WvW needs a reset. maybe quick half week matches to get the current skill/coverage thing sorted after the transfer lock.

sos gave up before blackgate, look how it was earlier tonight before hb guild and a few others left from bg, it was even and i was enjoying blackgates use of tactics and battle strategy’s we had some great battles tonight win or lose it was great to have smart competition with actual battle tactics not zerg tactics.

Wow you could draw a straight line down the middle of each colour and it will be the SoS spawn… try fighting each other. I don’t even see any crossed swords, or contested points on any of those maps except for sos bl’s.

no wonder SoS is having a tough time.

Apparently SoS and BG’s “BWC” alliance both have this ridiculous idea that staying in Tier 1 will have us in near-bottom tiers for over a month. I feel sorry for everyone not part of these alliances who are trying to enjoy the game, and especially JQ who did not want to take part in this ridiculous plan having no resistance in WvW, I can’t imagine that is very fun for them either.

None that I know of. No notable ones anyway. Probably the biggest issue I see guild wise in SOS is a commander quit the game (Patone). IMO he is the best commander I have ever played with or against. His guild had a following of ~600. Its dropped to about 400 members now. Some formed new guilds. Either way his leadership was a big loss.

We lost a fair few pugs who went to JQ, although IMO that is a good thing in the long run as it frees up space to potentially bring in another big organized guild.

what happened to him? he was a good commander. did he burn out?

Maybe the hardcore guilds in SoS realize its not worth fighting the remainder of the week since they will remain in t1 anyway.

this may be true, there are quite a few regulars that haven’t been seen this week. Who knows what will happen when they reset, it may not be worth fighting until things settle in two weeks.

Right now with limited numbers I know it isn’t fun to try and stop a zerg 3 times bigger than your team. And as someone said earlier the militia’s morale is down. They log on see the outmanned then the size of the enemy zergs and logoff. I can’t blame them, you gain a keep they attack with 5 catapults sounded by 50 guys and you can’t do a thing about it.

For starters you not even being in T1 and commenting on the situation is wrong for a start because you have no first hand experience as to what is currently happening.

Secondly the matches were reasonably close over the last few months and JQ gaining a few extra numbers would of made for some interesting close matches in the upcoming weeks. BG probably could of done with a few more bandwagoning guilds than both SoS and JQ – but that didn’t happen.

Now JQ doesn’t just get a few guilds, they get a truck load of them tipping the balance way too much in their favour. Understand now why people are complaining? What could of been some close exciting matches are now just ruined by too many guilds wanting to follow others into the one server.

He was on JQ either last week or the week before.

As for the rest of it I didn’t really bother to read.

Then he still doesn’t know the situation since the problem has been this week now that all the servers have arrived. Your point is moot. Try reading.

This system needs some work. Its so annoying having to type out a person you want to invite to a party to do a dungeon. They whisper you and I should be able to right click on their name and either ‘invite to party’ or ‘join their party’

Some players have special characters in their names and trying to type those names out is annoying.

Now maybe I’m wrong and their is an easier way of doing this. If there is please tell me.

Anyone else feel like this when they’re running across the vast landscapes in the borderlands?

Every time until I’m running solo across the JQ/BG borderlands for the jumping puzzle. Then it feels like this:

it seems better for me except one of the most important issues, thieves still aren’t appearing instantly after doing damage.

Dealing damage breaks stealth. Finishing move doesn’t do damage.

I like turtles too

Cloak and Dagger ½ 6 Stab your foe and vanish in stealth, leaving them vulnerable.

We had 20 guys trying to 1 thief from destroying all the siege. But they kept on hitting the siege to gain stealth. So basically thieves can run around attacking walls and siege and stealthing off that. cool trick >:(

also the culling bug is still there with thieves. Some thief just went invis to do the finishing move on me and didn’t come out of stealth once he/she did it. sigh.

Its pretty clear what will happen if JQ keep getting more and more guilds to come over. They will outnumbered everyone to the point it will become boring and pointless to play.

Just like it happened on BG BL’s. 10 or so SoS used siegebreaker to get the keep then 50+ JQ turn up and smash their faces against the wall 5 minutes later. Pretty much nothing we could do to stop it.

After a while we realised it was pointless, everywhere we went we were greeted by their big zerg or some of their smaller ones that still had twice the numbers then we could muster in the entire map.

As someone correctly said things weren’t that stacked before the mass influx of guilds into JQ, the games were close. JQ had good SEA/NA coverage. Now its so stacked the only interesting thing is who will come 2nd.

SoS undermanned, who starts these things…… If SoS is undermanned its because everyone gave up.

what rubbish. Even in the weeks where were came 1st we had plenty of times being outmanned and we didn’t give up then.

People still don’t seem to understand where our coverage lies. JQ and BG always used to get big points in-between the end of the night for the oceanics and the start of the NA timezone.

Please link these videos from other classes (especially a guard or warrior) where they are going 1v5-8 and winning like you see on thieves/eles.

^ totally this. the healing and mobility on a D/D Ele is crazy good. and the damage + stealth issues on a thief is also amazing. The rest of the classes fall well below these two.

Even though the thief class is a no brainer, I’m impressed with the person who created the D/D Ele build. That was well done to see the potential of that class.
