People need to read the patch notes. It baffles me that people do not go and check after each update. If people don’t read the patch notes then it’s their own fault; not the dev’s. There’s no reason that people need to have their hands held.
this is absolute rubbish. A game should never have to rely on third party/external information to work or be understood.
WoW did this and it sucked. New expansion and everything changed – why? what happened? “You just have to buy this series of books, its all explained in there” – absolute rubbish!

no, either you put the effort in or have extreme luck with RNG. Who knows, they may even sell them in the gem store later on after this has all ended.
It certainly getting better though. She did say meet me at Lions Arch but instead you have to talk to commander Kiel. But what I did like is how it ended. “Get some rest, I’ll contact you when we have more information on the other suspects” (something like that)
Which was great, I knew this part was over and I had to wait for another message.
They are certainly improving on their communication, the only failure was the talking to Kiel first at Lions Arch when you were instructed to talk to Delacqua. The problem can be the quest icons over the heads of the NPC’s – they don’t change. You see th icon over Kiel but you have already clicked on her previously you had no idea that it was the trigger for this quest as well.
They need a put another halo around the the icon to indicate she has something new to tell you.
omg lets have permanent death then for your characters so the death logic can make sense and see how that pans out.
its a game, entertainment is first and foremost, you have to allow it some leeway.
I really liked this. The presentation was simple, yet fresh. I’m one of the few people who like Logan, so seeing his involvement makes me happy.
This is how a story should be told! Full of suspense and mystery!

I’ve been pretty grumpy lately about this game with that horrible southsun story arc, then dragonbash seemed to be serving us up another dish of boring. But that cutscene, the Mr.E (Mystery) notes, Logan’s connection, Lady Kasmeer… Things are looking up.
This is how the story should be told- and the importance of cutscenes, they really help set the mood. Lets hope the detective quests are entertaining.
I’ll be watching that scene again on youtube. I wish there was a way to replay it in-game. maybe in the achievement panel instead of a chest there was a film clip icon so you can watch it again if you like.
These story steps are solo, but I’m sure this will end in a 5 man dungeon.
In the patch notes they say its all single player instances. All the other things seem to be single player quests.
Its annoying, so far the best new content for me was the molten facility dungeon which was a forced group event.
I hope they try and bring in more dungeons and eventually raids but they have to get out of this mindset that everything should be able to be done without grouping with others.

The OP WANTS to experience the instance with friends. You know how this game is an MMO, multi-player being the key word. But its turning into a single-player game.
I checked the patch notes, not one group instance was given, its all single-player.
Sorry but mindless, empty dragons with no personality, no motivation & no character are the worst enemies we’ve had to fight in Guild Wars.
The Abbadon story was awesome. The Dragons.. guh.. might as well be fighting a wall of guns.
I agree. Dragons that fly around out of sight who you only meet once in the entire game with no dialogue between you and it – IS BORING
southsun was boring because of the whole story arc. Building contracts on an island resort. sigh
But these terrorists are SKY PIRATES! this storyline has promise. Why did they attack the council? what is the bad blood between the water pirates and sky pirates? family feud? are they linked to another faction? do they want more than just to disrupt the council? Is there a link between the fast talking city dweller from the flame and frost chapter and the aetherblade?
I have high hopes for this one. If they bring in any lame bullkitten like the southsun drama (or lack of) where I have to mediate relations between a workforce and their employer I’ll be severely questioning the writers creativity.

- storyline achievements should not be given out at the beginning of a new chapter. “Oh look I know exactly what’s going to happen before its even started” thanks to achievement heading and description. Just insert a placeholder with a nondescript heading. e.g “storyachievement” – will be available 19th June. Then replace it with the correct achievement heading and description on the 19th.
- inform players which achievements count towards chest rewards
- and on chest rewards tell players when the achievement will be able to be completed to stop all this whining.
at the moment there is too much guess work on chest rewards and too much information given out on the storyline. Give people dates/times/locations… I see too many people asking when is this starting, when can we do that? where is it? so many confused people. The map discussion should be about who are the aetherblade, not when is this achievement available.
I enjoyed the introductions of the council members, it was kind of funny but then at the end of the first mission Kiel says something sooo stupid. I know these guys are professional writers, but really?!
so a strange discharge happens, then you are attacked multiple times by an organization and at the end Kiel says “this was no accident”
No kitten it was no accident, we were just assaulted 4-5 times during our escort by the same organization. Great deduction skills moron.
A better line would of been – who the kitten were they!
Oh look, people complain about instances always being group content so anet fix it, and then people start complaining that the single player instances aren’t group instances. They just can’t win.
yeah they can make it a group game.
Imagine the outcry in other games if people wanted Raids singleplayer only? “I don’t like that I have to raid with others, so for the next patch make raids a solo affair!” – “OK from now on raids can only be done in single player mode, no more grouped new content”
That would be crap and this is no different. Things have changed and not in a good way.
Personally I would prefer you were FORCED to join a group for this kind of content.
But not even giving people the OPTION to play with a group a people?!
Arena net, what are you thinking? You are making an MMO. Why are you making singleplayer ONLY content? Even the personal story could be done with groups.

I play this game because I want to be interacting with other people, it’s an MMO.
I agree with this guy, even the bold part. I would rather be forced to group with strangers or invite friends/guildies to do this. But this lonely single player mode has to stop.
Its an MMO with millions of players to group with but the game is making me play it like a single player game – which it isn’t. Why this sudden change? Is it to keep all the those people who cried about having to socialise for the molten facility?
My friend asked me how to see the fireworks. I said they happen every couple of hours in Lions Arch. And he’s like “So I have to sit there and it could be 2 hours before anything happens? how do you find out the exact time so I’m not just standing around waiting for 2 friggin hours!”
I didn’t know the answer. How can you work out when exactly the fireworks is going to start?
There is one thing you can count on when you go up against SoR…
The match-up thread will be the largest out of them all and 95% of it is filled with SoR posts spamming something, anything, everything. Certainly keeps the place buzzing.
just left a game where the other team had 3 afk players and the two that were trying just got annihilated. They only managed to get one kill. They left at the end of the match leaving the afk players still there for some other unlucky players to join with
I can’t believe they didn’t think this would happen, it happened in GW1 so they fixed it, why they would think GW2 would be any different shows a poor lack of vision.
I find it amusing that people think its about getting the achievement. Recall that even a losing team gets a piece of candy….. so if you just afk all day when not playing, free candy to sell or use for wings
Yeah. Cause getting A candy every 10 to 15 minutes is an efficient way to get you 100000.

It would take you 1.9 years to get enough candy idling in-game (at ~10mins/game).

The only thing I’d heard was that if you didn’t move for X seconds, it teleports you onto the field.
this is what happens – its the dumbest thing ever. Not only does it not address the issue it makes it worse by giving the other team free kills.

well its good that it doesn’t count atm, maybe some of the people sitting in game all day doing nothing might actually realise this and not ruin the game for others. OR they could actually try and help win. Its not like the game is hard.
You get zero you should get kicked out and have to rejoin.
No. People can get zero points because of a bunch of reasons, like the rest of the team is away and the other team is zerging on the only one that is actually playing the game or simply being new to it. Being idle for a whole match should be the reason for kicking someone from the mini game. Being unable to kill even one player does not mean that the person should be kicked.
For example, I remember playing with this one person that couldn’t kill a single player for two matches. Turns out she didn’t know she could toggle auto-attack on skill 1. After I told her, she improved match after match.
it takes all of 2 minutes to rejoin. If you are in a team full of idle leeches why the hell would you want to stick around and lose match after match?
I bought about 60 rich dragon coffers of the gem store, expecting to at least get 1 dragon jade ticket. Instead all I got was candy. What a load of kitten.
You guys are turning into money hungry people, and its starting to kitten me off, its impossible to get anything good in this game from anything. If nothing is done, I will not be playing this game soon.

Is this a complaint? I just got infracted for saying that I was sick of idle people in Dragon ball and got infracted, reason: I can’t create threads complaining about GW2.
people are complaining about the RNG of getting tickets. I hear a lot of complaining but what’s the solution? Anet needs to make money to keep their staff employed so content can keep coming in.
Do they keep the RNG on the free dragon coffers low, but allow the skins to be bought from the store at a expensive price? So if you really want them then you can buy them, but at a price.
OR do they introduce a scaling percentage chance. Buy e.g. 50 keys and each key increases the chance (+2%) so you can eventually gain a 100% chance for a ticket.
That way you still have the chance to get one after opening 20 chests but if you are unlucky you will eventually know you will get a ticket.

This game is great for some reason it brings me back to my Quake days. But the idle people are ruining it.. and its getting worse. They need to make people at least try, and not coast through while causing distress to other players.
sort it out Anet, supposedly GW1 fixed this problem by a report feature. You did make that game as well didn’t you?
I played 24 games total and won 20 of them….it’s not hard. Just gotta L2P
He’s not talking about difficulty he’s talking about the idle people that are ruining this game atm. Anet have to sort this out. People are just loading in then heading off to work/school or whatever then coming back to pick up their candy at the end of the day.
Too many people I see are finishing the game on 0 points.

just ask the group nicely for the achievement. people on this game are nice people, just ask. chances are you’ll get a good bunch to do it with.

Learn their tactics? Bring in bigger numbers > out numbered opponent > crush opponent (and use AC’s everywhere!) I don’t think SoR need to bring in any tier one tactics during this match up.
Because I see nothing amazing about their tactics at all. Nothing to make people stop and say “Wow that was really cunning”. Some of their smaller guilds have some decent open field combat but nothing too amazing. Not like those Euro guilds that were in tier1 for a while and completely decimated larger zergs.
Bring it to GvG and find out.

This is silly, we (SoS) were tier 4, then went up to tier 2 and now are up against tier1 opponents with so much more coverage.
Some of SoR are talking about how we die so quickly, well its no surprise when you consider we are mainly just randoms with small pvp guilds to hold it all together. None of this buff up, water fields, hammer warrior/guardian team based combakittens mostly just a bunch of randoms enjoying WvW that is all. Remember the 12+ guilds that once help us dominate tier 1 for weeks have long since departed.
its a strange match making system because TC who beat us last week dropped to tier 3, while we who stumbled along stayed in tier 2. its a strange system but I guess it allows for more different match ups. IF SoS doesn’t go down to tier 3 next week this system is broken.

A boring story poorly executed. Bad character development. Boring dungeon (its not dungeon, its a room) Queen karka is just a veteran Karka with more health… boring.
I just killed Zhaitan! a huge undead dragon! and now I’m dealing with employment contracts at a holiday resort, and trying to keep the peace between staff and their employers. Some guy Canach is trying to help the staff by stirring up wildlife and killing them – great help that is! In-between all that exciting action I get to help make an omelet and pick some flowers.
step it up Anet, give us something a little more exciting than this…
Even though we will go to tier 3 next week, I’m actually pleasantly surprised we on SoS have managed not to get completely steamrolled this week.
The dragon bash better be more interesting than the loving story. I know Kiel got a promotion and is in charge of security of the event. They better explain this ingame and not from a video blog.
NO IT DOES NOT. the karka queen is the same size, colour and has no extra animations (that I am aware of) its completely the same as other veteran karka’s roaming the island.
They could of least given it something to stand out. A new skin would of been nice.
You underestimate the short-sightedness of bean counters in large corporations.
It’s also possible that Kiel volunteered the services of a Lionguard ship to bring the contracts back for free. Again, for companies to whom the bottom line means everything, “free” always trumps any other consideration.
Why is gw2 suddenly using accountants in large corporations as part of their story telling. Accountants are boring at the best of times, do we have to deal with them in game now? boring boring boring….

I do find Canach an interesting character only because a Anet developer explained in one of these threads why Canach is wearing those gauntlets. Because he was curious about what was happening up north and single handedly took out a molten facility. That impresses me but you would never know that part to his character unless you read that particular post hidden away in some random thread.
I don’t ever want to see another boring story where we have to deal with legal documents on an island holiday resort. I want to go into a large dungeon and seek out and destroy some ancient evil and retrieve some hidden artifact of great power (which could be used to threaten the world) with a few epic boss battles with interesting fight mechanics where I get to use my own abilities not some mine sweeper gun.
When the latest patch went live I didn’t check, simply because there was now indication that at that specific time the contract event went live and therefore I do agree with the OP that ANet could have done a better job of comunicating said fact in game.
1. You could have thought about it that the contracts have to be there now, cause that was the last patch for this story-part.
2. You could have asked in map channel like the hundreds of people who did that the weeks before.I would be rich if I got 1s every time I answered that question to one who was asking.
that’s just silly, spamming map chat and guessing that the contracts might be there now because of it being the last patch.
How about actually informing players that the event is there and this is where you need to go. All this guessing is not good design.
The letter you receive doesn’t even mention the contracts. How about the letter telling you I’m going to need some help getting these contracts off the island – come visit me when you have the chance. Now was that too hard to include in the letter?
this chapter was so poorly done, and very boring. Hopefully they are going to step it up a lot for the next chapter!
Just wanted to make a shout out to AVTR on FA borderlands. You defended bay well. Also noticed that the small ops groups from both FA and TC are all so tanky! Had some very good long fights that really tests your skills. One wrong push on a skill button, and you know you’re dead!
Seems like SoS still has an incredible oceanic coverage during weekdays. We’re at 340ppt just now!
SoS is an oceanic server first and foremost. We got to tier one because we got an influx of NA guilds and one amazingly good EU guild. When they all left… back down the tiers we went. But we will always have a strong Oceanic coverage.
This has been a great fight so far. I don’t mind dropping bags everywhere because at times I’m picking them up just as much.

seeing TC and FA numbers reminds me of when we were in T1…. memories.
At least we’re not getting completely destroyed in open field combat, it seems like a good mix of win some, lose some.
One thing I find weird is the way Canach is attacking the camp and killing refugees as well. That’s hardly helping them…
They should of had a quest where you help the refugees, and when completed the guy gives you a note and says something like “Thanks for helping out, you look like someone I can trust. I received this a few nights ago ago from this shadowy figure. Perhaps you can find out who.”
The have an award which is a letter from ‘A friend’ warning the refugees to leave the camp that night because something bad will happen.
Because right now Canach is trying to slaughter everyone. Its like “lets free that town from an army that has taken it over. I know, we’ll bomb the entire place.”
SoS jumped up two tiers so this week is going to hurt, but that’s cool we’ll be back down a few tiers after getting our kitten kicked.

from t4 to t2 in one week – how did this get decided? I can understand perhaps moving up to t3 but this is a bit strange.

try guesting around to check the PvE population.
for non T1 NA servers, try guesting in Sea of Sorrows.
the PvE crowd there is still doing okay.
I second this, its full of people everywhere..
I want to build a condition damage necro but everything seems to be saying don’t bother. I have never built a condition damage toon before but they seem to be crap in comparison to direct damage.
- vulnerability doesn’t help with condition damage,
- condition damage gets cleansed so easily in PvP,
- damage in general is low
- stacks are shared with other condition damage players (which is a huge let down) eventually I find I’m not doing any condition damage if the stacks are already up on a world boss.
This shared stacks is a pretty poor design. Its like saying if two warriors are hitting a mob their damage will be halved. Seems very strange to me why they designed it like this. 3 condition build necro’s lose a 1/3 of their damage because the stacks are shared. why do that?
pro’s are
- I can setup conditions then kite, but then rangers/warriors can also kite with direct damage.
- spread my conditions to multiple targets. probably the best thing about condition imo
- Condition damage ignores armour? not even sure this is the case.
Can anybody add to these lists and maybe explain why condition damage builds are needed in this game?
8 months down the track and the stealth mechanic is still overpowered with no counter.
this tends to make me complain a lot. Also the living story is a bit weak and poorly delivered. The Molten Facility dungeon was amazing, might of raised the bar a bit too high. The latest chapter in the story is Soooooooo boring.
bug three: he recover the shield immediately after removing it with a mine….
Bug 3) Have 1-2 people in charge of leading everyone to disarmed traps. Then retreat to a safe spot right after. DPS Null in between.
Wow I really like your solution to bug 3 /sarcasm. So the bug that his shield immediately returns is explained by you how exactly?
I had him step on a mine, lose the shield and then get it back again after 1 sec several times today.
What is the deal with this? bug or intended?
Its incredibly annoying. Happened to our group a lot yesterday. I don’t mind difficult fights what I don’t like is buggy random mechanics.
Thieves are one of the squishiest classes with one of the lowest HP pools, I have always seen stealth as the only thing that saves them as a class.
They are squishy because that’s how nearly all thieves are built – by choice. There was a very good thief who posted videos explaining a regen thief who had great sustain. He was not squishy at all.
So many thieves out there are zerker built, and just spam ‘2’ to win. Rarely do you come across a good one that is crafty and plays well. Most the time they charge in hit their 1shot combo+ heartseeker spam, if it fails they stealth again and run (teleport) away. Good thieves outplay their opponents and not rely on insane burst to win.
