Well people always find a way to blame unrelated stuff about their own incompetence.
The solution is to stop worrying about your Solo Arena ranking.
Better yet, delete it altogether from the website.
No matter what measures ANet takes, Solo arena will forever remain a PUG fight and should never be considered “ranked” in any sense.
Unless they change it to 1v1.
Ok, thanks for the elitist team only matters nonsense coupled with almost zero understanding of why people are complaining. I guess I should just grin and bare it as my team gets anal probed for 10-15 minutes because we are down a man. It goes far beyong leaderboard rank although that is surely part of it.
I don’t play team arena. I play solo arena and hotjoin and I don’t care about my rank. If I end up in a 4v5 I shrug and either play it through if I’m up for a challenge, or drop out if I don’t feel like it.
My point is, there is no way you can make solo queue “serious”. Even if the teams are 5-5 there is no telling if your side will still be “anal probed” as you put it because you happened to be put into the same game with noobs or people who AFK.
So either stop worrying about your rank in solo arena or go “serious” and play team arena, where you can be sure the guys in your team are giving their a-game, just like you are.
Razer Naga.
You will thank me, and you are welcome.
Lol. I can’t believe everyone is still sticking to the explanation that “Guild Wars doesn’t mean player Guilds, even if the first Guild Wars was pretty much all about player Guild and PvP between them, trololololol”
It’s a stupid name to give to an MMORPG which has guilds and wars but not guild wars. No matter how you want to explain it from a lore point.
And yes, we definitely need a way for guilds to PvP each other. As it seems ANet is doing all in their power to disrupt that happening in WvW, they need to give us an alternative. Simplest solution would be to add 20v20 custom arenas to sPvP. More elaborate solutions would involve open world guild halls and consensual PvP.
It’ll never change as long as ANet keeps putting PvE rewards in WvW.
Normalizing WvW like sPvP would be a good start to get rid of all the PvE scrubs. Tripling the size of the WvW areas and removing all waypoints would be a good start to eliminate zergs.
However, seeing how most WvW players today are actually nothing but karma train runners who suck at PvP, these changes would empty WvW in a heartbeat.
To fix that, we could forget server wars and just fill each area as people show up, randomly (obviously favoring your guild/friends).
And jeopardize their sales of the all-time best-selling item in the gemstore?
In your dreams!
Razer Naga
You’re welcome.
Cursed Shore and Malchor’s Leap have 5 ori and 5 wood nodes each.
I use gw2nodes.com
If you’re claiming to be the first, I’ll ask you if you ever spend gold or karma. The obvious answer is yes, you do, just like everyone else. People spending time and effort in the ruins are playing the game, just like anyone else and they are just as entitled to the same rewards. They should get them.
Of course I like me some shinies. When I run around in the middle of the map though, I know that I don’t get any stuff from it other than some loot bags and wxp from kills, and this is totally fine. Nice fights are the reward which pay me for being there. If I want / need gold, there are easier and faster ways than WvW; at least my repair bills are covered by loot bags.
Simply killing other players in WvW isn’t profitable. Not to mention that the circle of ruins fails to draw in sufficient numbers to even make it worthwhile PvP. It’s a waste, boring and pointless due to lack of rewarding play.
And it’s exactly as it should be. The rewards are the awesome small 1v1/2v2/1v2 or similar fights and the thrill that comes with it. Running with the zerg will never be as satisfying.
The ruins are places designed for players who don’t care about rewards too much, and who are looking for like-minded and challenging small scale fights. If you want rewards, you capture structures and kill dolyaks and sentries. Please don’t try to change everything to suit your personal demands — it’s just not for you if you don’t like it yet.
Then go sPvP, or ask them to add an sPvP mode where you are not bound to the current restrictions of that system. Do not however try to bring your sPvP kitten into the middle of WvW.
Oh we have asked, but they don’t listen. Apparently they rather brought our sPvP into the middle of WvW. We do not try to bring anything, ANet already did.
And I really hope they will never, ever add any “phat” rewards for Bloodlust area. Stay away from my small-time PvP area you dirty zergers!
Or that ANet is desperately trying to wrap completely random ideas together with a poorly written supervillain.
The fact is, if they just read what they’ve done themselves carefully, they can do the “this was our plan all along” thing as long as they want to, without us ever knowing about it.
But rest assured, if they slip, someone will see it and they will be caught red-handed.
Because Arena.net is flawless, and one tiny slip means they’re doomed. Doomed I tell ya.
Or maybe we should presume they’re humans with the same flaws and drives as you and me. You have flaws too, no? Imagine 300 people like you working together … a slip is inevitable.
Dunno. At this point, fitting the story to the mechanics is more important than fitting the mechanics to the story. Building a nice world is the primary objective, good storytelling will come with the second dragon.
You missed my point. You’re assuming ANet has pre-written all this stuff way back when Flame & Frost started. I’m saying they are making it up bit by bit as they go forward and just making it look like it was all tied together from the beginning.
The “slip” here means they will introduce a tie, which someone will then prove it was conjured up later on because it contradicts something so clearly.
EDIT: And to clarify, I’m basing my assumption that they’re just making it up to the fact that no one, anywhere, had any clues in-game about Scarlet’s identity before she was introduced. Nothing. Yes, it could be a case of just lazy writing, but ANY good suspense story needs to have those hooks and hints in there BEFORE they make the big reveal. The hooks and hints can (and should) be so obscure that their meaning will only be apparent once the reveal has been made, making the reader go “OMG it was right there under my nose all along and I didn’t figure it out!”
We have got NOTHING like that regarding Scarlet. So, either they are indeed making this stuff up as they go ahead, OR they are lazy and/or incompetent in creating a good suspense story. Either way, they should fire their writers and hire better ones.

Shield stun is too short to land Final Thrust. Just saying…
how is it that the GS can out dps a hammer? The hammer generally does about 15-20% more dps. (10% more per hit as each hit is 1/2 sec). Whirlwind attack is rubbish. However, the GS is a great weapon to initiate attack. Bladetrail than Rush followed by hundred blades before switching over the hammer for tight melee combat. Then swapping back to GS only for the hundred blades than back to hammer. To me…bows and rifles are a waste of time in PvE. Just get straight into action and obliterate the monsters.
I always bring a longbow as backup. Some of the encounters in dungeons absolutely hate melee users, to the point where you have so little uptime your DPS will be actually better with a Longbow.
Well as long as you can hold your own as long as help appears, it’s fine. In whatever case, I’d swap the dual axes to something with more mobility, even if it will make the build more “boring”.
Dungeons, yes it can be effective. Open world zerg events – no.
EDIT: Need to add that in a PuG it has no place even in dungeons, as you’ll be kitten sure the ranger will waste that open defiant spot with a longbow knockback.
I don’t know. All the dual axe wielders I’ve met so far have been free kills for my hammer/s+shield build. Doesn’t mean it can’t work though. Could be those warriors were just bad.
The biggest problem with axes in PvP is that their DPS is completely determined by landing a crit on the 6th hit in the autoattack chain. Miss that and your DPS is rubbish. Second, it has no mobility whatsoever so you’re reliant on mobility on your other weapon set. Seeing you’ve chosen M+Shield as the secondary, you are practically asking to be kited to death.
I could live with that.

Tight-lipped as in how? There is one new dungeon path for level 80 characters and a few new weapon skins.
How much can you really talk about those?
This update just happens to be pretty poor in content, compared to what we’ve used to in the last few months. Nothing to sweat over. I’m sure a lot of people are still busy with Ascended weapons.
Destiny’s Edge comes in and slaps the dragon silly. The end.
I’d rather have a party (or zerg) of players do the slapping.
Only suggested about 20 times already. Not gonna happen. ANet doesn’t want your GvG in WvW and they will do everything in their power to stop you from doing it.

Someone is mad at people who actually use the game mechanics fully?
Yeah I too get a bit frustrated fighting a good evader with my hammer, but that’s the risk I take when wielding one.
I feel like this is obligatory: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWdd6_ZxX8c
I for one love that this isn’t some static world where all technological progress ceased thousands of years ago.
To be fair if our world had magic we wouldn’t had to invent stuff to make our life easier, which is the base of all invention. A combination of technology and magic would definitely still be viable.
Don’t forget the new mini!
I’d start from fixing the battlements so that they’d actually confer an advantage over the ones standing below.
I mean, that should kind of be their point.
Then who’s gonna keep the necros in check after these changes?
SteamOS will support a very minuscule amount of games natively. But if the streaming works as it should, I could imagine getting a lightweight SteamOS streamer in the living room.
Nah. Just make it so that smaller character do less damage than big ones. I mean my Norn should be able to just step on that Asura and instagib him.
It’s realistic.
I dont know, the blue glow for weapons has my interest. I’m a guy that likes blue lights.. sooo…. pretty…..
Alright so I’m just not in the demographics of their target audience… Makes sense.
The release page is up. I seriously hope this is not all. One extra path for TA, a couple of ugly skins and a new mini.
Seriously?
there was multiple elses that “offered same kind of experience”. And EvE kept growing.
WoW and GW2 keep shrinking.
Oh really? Can you list a few, just for my amusement?
I love the super explosive. Flashy, instant and everyone will see it from miles away.
Evan is the real reason Primordus is hiding deep underground.
The solution is not to sweat over Solo Arena.
I consider it to be a hotjoin 2.0. A bit tougher opposition on general, might have a bit more organization. Otherwise just a random battle with randoms who are running random builds and say nothing on chat.
EDIT: Although I consider this, I still give my a-game in solo arena, even if nobody else is. I just don’t expect any results.
Funny my friends list is full of people who said 100% they’re not coming back. Most of them came back.
Odd thing that.
Yes it is odd that when Anet focuses on only one kind of player they lose part of the population and keep the other. Very odd indeed.
The problem is if they try to focus on every kind of player they aren’t actually focusing on any kind of player.
EVE has 500k accounts. I would be surprised if it has even half as many players…
What does it matter? The way Blizzard counts “subs” they may have 1/2-1/3 players also. + all gold sellers, do we count them out too?
FACT is EvE is still growing and GW2 and WoW lost crapload of players.
Eve went into other markets they were not in before. Before they entered into other markets, they were not growing. Guild Wars 2 will grow as it enters into other markets as well.
GW2 already lost few times more players than EvE ever had.
GW2 FIRST have to actually get where it WAS at launch.
And EvE was growing still, before “entering new markets”….and afterwards. Its just that they hit 500k mark a bit sooner.
Of course, its slow but STEADY growth over 10 years.
Name another MMO that can claim the same.
It matters because once the players start to quit (which of course doesn’t happen until there is something else to offer the same kind of experience) the numbers will start falling rapidly. It’s not like the guy with 5 accounts will only suspend one of them when he quits.
The buffs stack, so +30%
Why can’t everyone in the guild just join the guys in the emptiest overflow?
Shhh! You’re about to reveal the secret why some ppl are so bad in PvP…
I need my daily backpedaling longbow rangers to trash in hotjoin.
It’s feels random because that’s what Anet wants. They’re going to surprise us by tying all the dots.
I’m glad you still have faith in them. I have lost that already.
After capturing 250 towers and keeps you should pretty much have the stuff to make an ascended weapon already…
This option would mean you wouldnt have to get a profession upto 500 and farm all the other mats…
Even counting that, you should still have enough… Give or take a few. That’s 250 champ bags, a crapload of karma, some gold and a ton of WXP chests.
Only thing that might be tight is the Dragonite, depending on your mix between keeps and towers.
People are actively taking a strike against WvW.
The only people still playing are PvD rank farmers, and those classes that abuse the hell out of perplexity runes.
Edit: And dragonite ore farmers.
And those who love the new Bloodlust area for the small-group PvP it offers. I love it
They are fun… until you play Vs T1 servers that have random 15+ player guild groups running through them >.<
In general though I do like the new area lol
I was in T1 (against Vizunah no less) last week and although at times the zerg or big groups ran through the area, they never stuck for long. I just avoided the big groups and got back to small group/solo fighting when they left.
I cannot thank ANet enough for excluding all kind of personal rewards from the bloodlust area. It was a brilliant move to ensure the general public will never stick there for long.
Idk about EU, but during the day today there was a guild group from one of the NA T1 servers that stayed there for at least 2 hours lol.
On all three borderlands? At the same time?
You really shouldn’t convert laurels to gold. You can get gold at any rate but laurels are 1 per day and 10 per month.
Unless you spend most of your time in the Mists. Then that becomes the only way.
If you only play spvp, you dont need gold.
And you can still make money on the trading post.
If you only play spvp all you earn is glory and laurels. You can’t sell spvp gear on the tp. Since you claim you don’t need gold I must have missed the patch when they added a way to convert glory/laurels to gems. Ohhhh wait….
You also get achievement points in Spvp, dont you?
Then i mean the patch that introduced the achievement chests that also award gold and gems.
I’ll get back to you as soon as the next living story achievements (worth 200+ points) are sPvP only.
many race choices are limited and hardly noticable, but they all serve a (limited) function. Mostly in your home instance.
As for your personality. afaik there are no concrete plans to do more with this. I agree this mechanic is a failing one. I have suggested to make it decide your facial expression (currently sylvari only smile, and Norn always look angry. Make the personality change your facial expression.
I think facial expression changes would be quite fantastic.
I’d rather be able to choose the expression myself.
Lol
Best PS post in a while.
I never understood where people get the “Destiny’s Edge 2.0” from. Even more so, since we have barely used the regular DE for all that much ingame so far. They only just reunited at the very end of the PS.
Erm… they only were the centerpoint of all the Dungeon Story Modes… Not to mention a member of them was there for you in Personal Story levels 1-10.
Yeah they were separated until Arah story, but doesn’t mean they can’t do the 2.0 already
omg, can we STOP with the Sylvari? getting SO SICK of Anet’s Sylvari swooning.. on top of them getting all hot & bothered over all things Sylvari (the 2nd least popular race) We have to deal with Scarlet, the most annoying character ever, AGAIN?
I respectfully disagree with your rant. I like Scarlet as a villain and I like Sylvari as a race.
You’re proven to be in the minority about the latter, and I presume about the former sentiment of yours, too.
So are you in the latter case. AFAIK not a single race has an absolute majority.
Getting technical now, are we?
Unfortunately against Mesmers you’re going to be the underdog no matter what build you choose.
Strangely enough, I’ve found the shield to be the best offensive off hand for a warrior. Especially if you get reflect and might stacking traits. Nothing better than to reflect an Unload and then hit the thief with 10+ stacks of might.
