Also please give a thought to us water eles in WvW, we’re the Kenny of Kennys in WvW, healing our groups so that they can get all the loot, whilst we are left with scraps

Only a full time water ele will hear in WvW “OMG the loot keeps on dropping! I got 50 bags in that fight!”, the water eles looks around and finds one spike on the floor.

Works the same in all game modes (more prevalent in WvW though). With killing being the only trigger for loot the guy in the back rezing, and the healer that keeps everyone alive gets hooped.

Believe me you are loved and appreciated by us players (at least the ones on your team). Until ANet decides to redefine just what exactly merits participation the adoration of your peers will continue to be a kitten poor substitute to the loot bags everyone else with DEEPS gets.

In the upcoming (soon TM) CDI I am sure there will be many ideas on how to reward players more for doing the grunt work (defending, scouting etc.) but the problem does not lie in rewards it lies in exploits.

A few months or so back escorting dolyaks gave decent wxp and even made you feel you were part of the overall game. But then along comes the bots and suddenly ANet tweaks it to the point of being worthless. What you ask for would be very nice to have, but unless they have an optical eye scan built into the game to prove a human is at the wheel, it will most likely never happen.

I too like to defend, but lets face it, any “bot” could sit idle in a tower/keep and be rewarded for nothing but sitting there. Hence, easily exploited.

As for the commanding side of things, I too would like to see rewards given out to those that command. Although as is with the defend side of things there is nothing to stop a bot from putting on a tag and sitting afk for hours to rake in that sweet loot.

In a nutshell, a few bad apples don’t just ruin the bunch, in this case they destroy the whole kitten harvest.

What I believe we would all like to avoid is being told by complete strangers (trolls) our build sucks kitten and we should use this or that instead. Posted by: Tommyknocker.6089

Tommyknocker.6089

First off I think this conversation should have been posted in the general forums, having it here assumes we don’t want to have builds in other areas of the game and as such puts PvP above all the other modes.

Secondly, having all the secondary “could be” should be added:

Skins
Dyes
Outfit
Finisher

As these make your character unique to the build.

The ability to share a build/template would be nice to see implemented, but I don’t want an inspect feature added so people can insult my build if they find it inadequate (to them). A nice overlay of your build would be nice to see added, but as this would require more time, I would just settle (be very happy) for having a text description for the build.

sPvP and tPvP = player vs player environment
WvWvW = player vs player environment
PvE = Player vs the environment

2 out of 3 ain’t bad for the pro duelers. Like I have said before I am all for it so long as it is in it’s own separate area that must be entered to duel so as to not ruin my experiences in the game. As for having tools (decline) in place it would do nothing about the more persistent players that follow you around whilst slandering your name as a chicken in map chat. This does happen no matter how many times you may wish to deny it (personal experience). Adding to this the fact that reporting for this behavior would most likely be given very low priority compared to the other spam we receive daily (you know) then no thanks.

So if they add a dueling arena that allows food/tools/armor/trinkets and everything else that is in pve so you could test you builds against like minded players. I wish you would ask yourself why must you duel in the open world and disturb my fun?

I honestly don’t care about the drop rate or the mystic toilet chance. What I do care about is the fact that I have over 2700 hours booked into the game and there is still no way to earn it. You could crack out the wallet and buy one without any actual playing time in, or you could have attended the original Karka event when they were raining, but I refuse to do the former and was working for the latter.

I realize that precursor crafting would be tough to implement, but I have over 1000 skill points saved up at this point, so I ask, at what point does a player become legendary?

Disclamer: I actually don’t much care for the legendaries available as they don’t suit my main, but even if I wanted to try and make one to add to my skin wallet for another character, I would be kitten out of luck.

Scrambles of course you are a bit biased (to say the least) and have an agenda to support so how do we know you will provide reliable data? While not really possible we would need a larger sample from players that are neutral on the position in order to receive more reliable information. But hey if you want to go ahead with your “project” good for you I guess.

Haha, yes i may be a bit bias (because i enjoy dueling) but i have also tried to approach this realistically. If i knew nothing about dueling besides what i’ve read from this thread i would have at least expected to have been called a noob by now for declining. But i haven’t even had the chance to decline!

I don’t know what type of larger sample data one would expect to see. Maybe if i saw threads like “remove dueling from x game, it is ruining the community!”

The only time i’ve heard people complain about duel based harassment are in games that don’t even have duels. You can find these threads for GW2 and ESO. I never heard anyone complain about duels in games that actually have duels.

There could be many reasons for that. One being that after being harassed said player reports offender though official channels avoiding the garbage talking inevitable on the forums. I know that after being harassed and grieved (corpse camped) in WoW (30 day trial) I decided to just remake my character on a PvE only server.

Now however I just avoid any game that has open world dueling instead searching out games that either don’t have it or segregate it to a designated area.

  • Yes, I could avoid the zerg fights to get less loot. Bit silly suggestion.
Actually I often steer away from big fights because mesmers are not suited for those. The loot accumulates even when roaming or keeping the defences up.

But at the end there is still that unavoidable visit to a vendor or the Trading Post.

Silly?. I think not actually. Many servers need to have people as scouts and sentries in order to keep up their PPT (if you know what this is). You will get very little loot most times doing these activities and the amount of loot you get from other means is IMO a way to offset this fact.

Bottom line is if all you want to do with your time is to pursue loot, please don’t complain that you are getting to much of it. Some of us spend half our time defending towers and keeps and what you consider to be in abundance, we consider to be trivial.

Having all the bosses heath on display would eliminate most of the health spam and adding in gates for X players to enter before a cap is reached (red on gate if area is full) would suffice. At this point you will have to find an organized group that farms the place to find an active overflow; I hear the LFG tool actually helps here. I have occasionally gotten a bronze while there by helping to take out a boss then going back to my liandri ticket sink. But it depends on the amount of players there and bosses left so I usually don’t bother.

Damage Meters and Inspect Commands

Tommyknocker.6089

I see this conversation as never having a conclusion simply because those that want the feature:

1) to inform others that may/may not know the current meta to become a better player
2) want a way of seeing what other builds (with future patches) become viable
3) distrust people so they want to weed out the pretenders

Those that don’t want the feature:

1) don’t want to be whispered by strangers telling them to get gud
2) prefer to keep their gear/builds to themselves due to personal privacy (testing out healer gear on a warrior for example)
3) trust players to be friendly and contribute to whatever they may be grouped up for, knowing that occasionally they may have to do a bit more to help those less able

Basically it boils down to personal preference in how we deal with other people. I myself prefer to live and let live, but then again I never answer any LFG DPS!!! groups.

On a side note, ANet could add an internal gearscore that would determine if your dps is high enough to allow you to join/post a LFG so as to show yours is high enough locking out any gear/trait changes once created/joined. It still would not show competence though.

PvE Dueling

the forums are split between those that want duels and those who can’t be bothered to decline a duel request.

Ah, of course. Those of us who don’t want duels are in fact lazy and are not in fact fed up with trolls and petulant 12-year-olds who think that bunny-hopping around, whispering “duel me brah” and “u scared?” every five seconds is a perfectly mature way to conduct themselves.

I believe the mentality of the pro-duel camp on this thread is reason enough for duels to never be implemented in this game.

Why can’t you decline and block?

I would prefer a new option “ignore”. This new option would not only block the user but totally remove him from your client and move you out of your current megaserver instance. You would not be able to get whispers from the user nor would you see him at all (includes bunny hopping). This option would not be perfect as he could still slander your name as a chicken etc., but it might add a modicum of peace to my PvE playtime.

But why even bother with the dev time when adding an arena would be a much better option IMO.

Well I would love to get into that megaserver instance. The only ones I seem to get into after logging in numerous time to try and find a good one are sitting at bronze with only a few dead. And the last one I did that a few of us managed to kill the ogre and I never got credit for the total event. Total bust from my end, but I am glad you are rolling in the boxes. PvE Dueling

Tommyknocker.6089

Strictly from the business point of view ANet must ask themselves one simple question. That being how many PvE only players will quit the game vs how many new players the feature will attract. Seeing as there are not many options for a full featured MMO for those that prefer to not partake in PvP, I could see many that don’t want it leaving if implemented. On the other side of the coin many many MMO’s already have a duel function built in (WoW, Wildstar etc.) so attracting players that already have it elsewhere would be questionable at best.

I’m sure if they were to implement such a feature most that don’t want it open world would be quite happy to see it made into an area of the mists or an arena in a city. So long as they don’t see it interfering with what in essence is designed from the ground up as a cooperative environment. I for one could care less if they add it, if done right.

So very very true. Just yesterday I was talking in map chat and said “kitten it”. Among the few players that actually knew what I was (not) saying, I got about 3 players asking what the hell kitten meant. You cannot rely upon the forums to reach the masses, and players only know what they are taught by the game. ANet really needs to step up their game (pun intended) on teaching players what needs to be done IMO.

Even as simple a method as a gate with red/green particle effect that tells players what boss could use more players would have sufficed. Players need to be told what to do in most cases and no good loot plus confusing victory conditions will make many just not bother.

I am glad that ANet listened to us and made the loot better in the last patch, but the fact still remains that they need to work on directing the players better.

It’s actually kind of sad that trying to play well, carry your own weight, and get the most out of your character is now seen as elitist.

It has nothing to do with that, I too like to “play” with my build to get the most out it in any given situation. Where it starts to enter into the grey territory is when players are being “told” what to do and wear. Nobody likes being told what to do and as this is an MMO and not a job you cannot blame them. It goes right into the black when a total stranger messages you to tell you that you are a “noob” and to “get real gear ya looser”.

As you can see a mostly harmless tool for you could become an absolute kitten for others. As has been said “don’t join groups that require gear checks”, but if used in the open world to harass others would it not be another story?

I got a better idea, make the other play styles more viable. Gear and DPS checks would mean very little if the game indeed had control/support and damage as was originally advertised.

Give the enemies the ability to dodge, do more damage to stacking players and hit harder while moving more often instead. Also reduce their health to compensate then you can have your gear check. Although you still won’t be able to check the competence of the player.

Honestly I could have the absolute best in gear, the best traits and be using the best food utilities and hit godlike numbers when I attack. However, it all falls apart if I don’t use X attack quick enough or have the proper rotation for Y encounter. In other words damage/gear does NOT equal skill otherwise the leader boards would all have only a 1st place and instead list the gear/traits etc of the players.

I think what you are actually looking for is a competence meter and until they figure out how to make one of those you’re out of luck.

The design team dropped the ball on this one for sure. Off the top of my head I can come up with a few much better ways to make player know what to do and how to do it.

For example:
A greeter that informs players that downing all bosses close to the same time is needed to succeed
gated areas that only allow so many to enter
announcers to tell players what boss needs more/less players
Less insane scaling for when a boss has to many on him, but still make a zerg fail if they are try one at a time

I could go on, but it is in vain as the event has sadly already been released.

You are not in the minority or the pavilion would be forever full. The problem is that ANet has based it’s loot (gold in this example) upon a short timer, so anyone that wants the loot MUST complete the event(s) in the proper way if they want to be rewarded for the event. If it came together like that then the loot would be fine…

However, this leads again into thinking the majority of players are psychic knowing what and where to go to complete the event is such a short time span (again for the best loot). In all likelihood though you will get what has happened, players that are there only for the loot will quickly balk at the time taken to organize and instead do the “farm of the month” for the instant gratification it offers.

Again I will say that If ANet wants players to follow certain rules for these events they NEED to let the players know just where the carrot is by way of rules or mechanics designed to funnel them where needed. Otherwise those that are there just for the shinies will go elsewhere leaving only a very few to do the event. I don’t know about others either but I’m sorry to say when I enter the event and find it barren I don’t think “great, I’ll get 40 friends to organize and help” I instead think “maybe I can find a zerg in EotM or Orr”.

I think the thing that bothers me the most is that even though many abuse the trains and events that are, shall we say, a bit to generous, many of us just like to play the game. This makes those of us suffer because we now cannot just run across a tougher boss and get well deserved credit for it. A better option for trains would have been to make pre-events that had to be triggered randomly so as to eliminate the constant zerging and instead add flavor to the world.
