Doesnt really solve the problem. Seriously can people stop suggesting “get people to play with”. It is kitten advice. I just want to play and have a fun game. That isnt possible right now. If you are one of those losers who always has to have a full team all on teamspeak then good for you. Some of us dont want to do that but that doesnt mean we deserve to get owned and have no fun.

It is all compounded by the ladder. Cos you know there will be players up the top of the ladder just cos they run in premade all the time. That isnt what a ladder should be. What if they have a football tournament and decided that it was fair to rank players according to their wins. They would have teams with tactics and managers and their players would get rewarded for playing against and beating a team with 5 goalkeepers and 6 under 12 players. It is ridiculous.

The ladder means f all and so does everything in this game right now. Balance is a joke. Basically did the biggest nerf BY FAR seen in this game ON THE WORST CLASS ALREADY. Idiots. Slow and steady and “no whack a mole” unless that whack a mole means deleting the warrior class.

Mate, all I do is solo or very occasionally duo que for tournaments. I support a seperated solo and team ladder, but until then, make do as best you can.

I’m not having too many issues in tournaments as solo at the moment. If anything, the faster pops and full teams is a nice change.

I would like a rank 10 restriction on it though. At least get people to learn where the modes are in hotjoin. It might not achieve much, but it couldnt hurt.

And one last restriction, regardless of whether rank equals skill or not but an algorithm that makes the highest rank in a match no more the. 20 ranks above the lowest. It won’t solve everything but could bring some parity back in.

Regarding balance, no comment. Talking balance in this forum is like every single other MMO or MOBA game, pointless and full of whingers.

I’ll post you some PMs when I stop traveling. I’ve read all your guides and tried the builds in there. If I take scepter or sword/shild or torch, yeah, u can beat a warrior but if you go seekers ammy you are 7k hp behind right there with only healing power and toughness from traits. If you forego those traits and go pure glass, it’s like 13k hp and u can be Insta killed.

Stand your ground and double or trip meditations can only get you so far.

Sorry silvan, gotta disagree with you there. If I wasn’t on my phone I would go further into detail but great sword v greatsword a warrior should win easily.

Other weapons in the mix and it changes things, but without the hp to last long enough for sub optimal damage to wear him down, the warrior will rock you.

Meh, I played axe/mace warrior with no issues. Sword/shield for 2nd set for added utility and control. I didn’t play at the top level though, but either did 95% of the other people claiming to.

Go duel a great sword dps guardian on your great sword warrior 100 times. You could win 99 of them with nothing but an amulet on.

Jeez. You blokes just don’t stop. What did you do for the other 55 seconds that frenzy was on cooldown?

It literally added an extra second to 100b under haste. Which you can get out once per minute. 1 extra second once per minute.

In a game of cosmetics, 10 additional dyes every 5 days is an awesome change. It’s a guaranteed 80 dyes a month, which is god considering they aren’t account wide and u can sell leftovers even if they are at a pittance.

I don’t see how it can be exploited if it requires a win or second place in a 3 round tournament. The chances of actually rigging that are next to nil and you can’t afk farm your way there or bot it.

Even still, 3 round tournaments are a silly idea. We need a random map generator for single round tournies and a reward of 5 gems per win. With roughly 10 wins per hour being the most possible, it would still take 2 hours of solid play to net yourself a max of 2 gold depending on conversion.

You can’t afk or bot wins in a tournament, at least it’s highly unlikely. 2 gold for 2-3 hours play depending on wins is pretty fair and would be far less then PvE players get. The gems rewards is a perfect way to offset the costs of the upcoming custom arenas and for cosmetic and upgrade purchases (bank space if needed, bag space and character slots and even server transfers in the long run).

Guardians may be the best bunkers but thier dps role is in a worse spot then warriors have ever been. People rate the. As effective based on being a bunker and that’s it.

Try playing a great sword dps guardian. It’s like playing a warrior but with 15k health and zero toughness.

Warriors are better off with the quick was nerf. Now some other builds will come out and not be 100B reliant. Balanced build with soldiers amulet and control skills. Sure, might not be the best roamer, but will be a great team fighter.

Or we could spend all day pretending to redesign it or whinge about it just for arena net to ignore it.

Leaderboards of who got the most glory (highest rank) are completely useless. This update was a huge disappointment. Maybe they’ll add an actual rating system with a decent ladder in couple years.

Rezz, what does glory had to do with the leaderboards that are coming? They are supposedly based of your hidden MMR, which is based off your win/loss ratio relative to your enemies and team mates.

Or did I read it wrong? I assumed they were using the Glicko 2 system (that’s what they said the MMR was based off) and is the same system they use In Their WvW rankings.

Personally, I think that’s out of whack. Those features are paramount to bringing players in and players back to sPvP. Each to thier own though Xeph, I respect your opinions just don’t agree with it.

The quickness change wasn’t that big of a deal IMO. It’s an extra second on a 100b that you get once a minute.

It’s 1 extra second on your 100b skill, that you can use once every 60 seconds.

From this point forward, all of your opinions are invalid.

It seems you don’t understand.

it means that till bunker eles can facetank 2/3 people and leave, heal, come back at will ( and till bunkering is still so strong overall), this nerf will simply get balance WORSE.

Or rather, now 4 eles+ guardian comps will become viable.

No matter how you slice it, I would much rather fight a bunker Ele face tanking me then the quickness inspired rubbish that thieves had. You know why? At least you get to fight the Ele.

50% nerf wasnt near enough. This game has infinitely more chance of achieving a more balanced state (current state is actually pretty good IMO) without quickness in the game.

Add that to scrub mechanics like Confusion and Retaliation. Way to go there. I do t care too much, just hate passive mechanics that help bad players more than anything.

April will be the PvP patch.

Don’t know what you guys are whining about. This patch is actually pretty good. Leaderboards in, just gotta wait a week for visibility. Nerfs to both quickness and stealth reveal timer, evidence of custom arena coming very soon, PvP gear at too. Select and fixes to the 4v5 issue in tournaments.

Looking good to me.

Quickness got nerfed, but I still advocate its complete removal from the game and now I can get a laurel from PvP dailies and monthlies to spend on dyes.

Plus I can see my PvP gear at the login screen.

Few more maps and a split que for tournaments and this game is going to get much better.

What’s not to like is the agonizingly slow pace at which anything is implemented, the terrible imbalanced state of the game, the classes still riddled with useless traits, weapons, and builds, and not to mention bugs.

To be fair, the question was if I was happy with today’s patch, not the game in general. Today’s patch addresses alot of talked about issues. Quickness, reveal timer, lack of leaderboards, 4v5 is the tournaments etc. this patch fixes some of these things but yes, it is 6 months if not longer overdue. Late is better than never though.

Horribly imbalanced state of the game? Meh, balance is relatively fine and even more so with the haste, stealth and no auto attack from steal change.

Features and stability will make or break GW2. Good to see them working on more features. Bring on custom servers and spectator mode.

I like the patch; however, I am still just waiting for a proper solo queue. I ran 4 games today, won 3 of them in fun, competitive matches and then the 4th was up against a premade and we lost 500-200.

  • I like the laurel change
  • Leaderboards are pointless to me (a solo only player) because I’m lumped in with whole teams
  • I’m fine with the quickness nerf as long as they buff the abilities that relied on it

I also play solo alot and leaderboards are very important to me. If the population gains a bit and the solo/team que is split, leaderboards will be the single most important thing about GW2. Ranking progression beats any other progression and that’s the exact reason games like MOBA’s etc are popular, the solo progression.

Based on what I read and how I interpret the leaderboards, it will be a website with the top X (starting at top 100 players) listed. You can filter the top 100 in achievements, PvP ranking and WvW ranking. Let’s say they eventually end up getting it to top 500. In a popular game (which clearly SPvP is not) you would really never break the top 500 as a solo-only player, because there will be almost all players that are team players ahead of you.

I could be misunderstanding the way this will work, but if this is how it will work, solo queuers will be left off completely.

That’s my understanding of its initial release, but hopefully a seperated ladder comes in the future for solo and team players.

Even still, if matchmaking works appropriately and the population becomes big enough to pit solo v solo players of Equal MMR into tournaments, there’s no reason that thier ratings won’t climb as high as team players.

That’s best case scenario though.

Competitive sPvP players do not have gold to convert to gems, regardless of the dyes that can be sold, at a pittance mind you.

I assume there will be some sort of way to either make gems, or restrict the amount of servers available. There can’t be hundreds of custom servers going at once, the population is simply too small for that and half would be empty or unused.

Balanced builds are something that won’t happen, even with toning builds from both spectrums down. Damage dealers will always want the biggest numbers, so will min max for best damage. That pushes defensive builds Ito as much defense as possible, the state remains the same.

It makes them more vialbe. Damage dealers will eventually realize utility/control will benifit them more than just raw damage bursting if both ends get toned down.

There will always be players who want pure burst, but other want a balanced build. You can have both.

I already run semi balanced builds on both my Guard and Mes. It’s already possible, but considered by the community “sub optimal”. It may be at the highest level, but for solo que it’s ok.

I’m not against a change at both ends of the spectrum, I just don’t think it will achieve much if anything.

I think that the divinity amulet should be the standard and only option. Let the rest of the stat allocation come from traits and runes.

Oh yeah, I do t disagree with you there. Pairs were ridiculous, the whole tournament system was. I’m just talking about the population prior to paid tournaments just after release.

If we had 5 maps, solo que and leaderboards then, the community would be healthier. Too little too late.

As for Indaviduals, I miss Vain on SOTG. He has a good handle on how the game should be.

“As far as MMO’s go the balance in this game is good” that doesn’t really say much when this game is trying to become a top-notch PVP game. The PVP in other MMO’s have pretty low standards and aren’t even close to being a fair competitive game. I’d rather have this game have high standards and try to become a popular PVP game rather than some PVP tacked onto an MMO like the ones you find in all the other MMO’s. Who cares if it’s an MMO. The point here is the PVP part of the game, not the PVE or wvw.

Feel free to name a single competitive PvP game, outside of FPS shooters and I’ll show you a forum of balance whingers. People who whinge for a balanced state of nirvana never stop. They just keep on going, like a kitten cancer.

Every single game has this virus and I can understand why developers just outright ignore them unless its a bug or an unintended issue. You please one faction of the balance whingers and another one pops out and spreads like kittenroaches.

Must be mighty easy to sit there and kitten talk how important balance is when you’ve got two of the best classes in your Signature.

I play Guardian as great sword DPS which is a bit meh really and Mesmer as Phantasm spec which is considered sub optimal. It doesn’t bother me though because I like the play style. I regularly get eaten by all classes and I monster most of them aswell.

What’s the point of monetizing something that is already clearly struggling to retain a player base?

Sort out key needed features first, the. Look at making an income. So far it’s the other way around. Sure, if they could make money off it they could invest more resources into it, but as it is, no one wa TS to spend money in a game that doesn’t even have the core infrastructure of any of the other E SPORTS games out there.

The pvp is good, the infrastructure isn’t.

Random rewards from chests doesn’t feel satisfying. Matchmaking is shaky and too late with a low population, split ques for solo and premade are what was needed.

Hidden MMR is kitten in every sense, no other game does this. At least a orm of ladder is coming, but should have been here yesterday.

Custom servers were “soon” in October, they are desperately needed with high flexibility in addition to a stable spectator mode.

Tournament system needs to be tiered at different times of day, week and month.

Hopefully one day.

At least balance is pretty good.

I see it pretty balanced. You have to spec condi removal to not get smashed by someone who specs condi damage. You lose utility by speccing that way anyway.

Rangers, engis and necros all do pretty bad kitten condi damage as it is.
