All these complaints about DH are ridiculous. Reapers, Scrappers, Druids and Chronos are far worse than DH. Given equal skill, if you aren’t one of the “Top 4” you lose. Druids can just stand on point and straight up out heal the traps damage.
Reapers can deal 24k damage in 2 minutes if you have chill on you with 0 condition damage while face tanking everything you have with no worries. Yet taking 5k-6k crits from a barrier you have to trigger, and only lasts 6 seconds at most, is a issue. This is the same exact situation as the Elementalist “Fire Ring” skill.
The only profession that should have a hard time with Dragon Hunter is Thief/DD.
If only a handful of people can make thief work then that’s pretty much a tell that something is UP.
Or the class is in the correct place and the majority of your population in the game just suck (which is the case).
I believe a more telling sign is all the Reapers, Scrappers, Druids and Chonros appearing out of no where not knowing how to dodge but are still able to contend. It doesn’t take much to play those classes and do extremely well with them.
They need to be brought in line with Berserker and DD, not the other way around.
If you just compare GW2 pvp to other mmorpg pvp, it is actually really good already.
Can say this with quite the amount of certainty; absolutely false. Even Echo of Souls PvP is better than Guild Wars 2 “PvP”. There are very few mmos that do PvP worse than Guild Wars 2; maybe the same but not worse.
People complain about “Gun Flame” yet everything is fine with 24k damage with chill in a two minute fight without condition damage gear.
After reading some comments you people are leading me to believe you honestly thought this new Anet team was capable of writing a decent story.
After the travesty that was the “living world” updates and “living world season 2” you would think almost everyone would understand the very low ceiling that is their writing potential. The only thing this new writing team knows how to do is pander and I will give credit where credit is due; they pander well.

I was getting into character select then getting errors after selecting a character. After cycling through four of my character it finally allowed me in game on the fifth and now I can switch between them. Will update if I crash (as I am expecting to).
There is nothing worse imo then when given a certain role like healer and you stand there and watch over team mates. .
At least you know when someone is good at what they do or not in those games.
In Guild Wars 2 people get dragged through content and actually think they are decent. I have literally seen a Elementalist sit in Fire attunement and spam 1 on staff in fractals.. not level 1 or 2, but 38.
Ah yes, nostalgia.
Hell, here is a test for you GW1 vets, tell me ANYTHING you remember (without googling it) about the skill Spoil Victor. It can be anything from it’s skill type or what profession even had it.
You are just angry that Guild Wars 1 is far more pvp orientated than guild wars 2. Guild Wars 2 pvp down right sucks in comparison, which is why the vast majority of the people quit.
Necro Elite:
10 energy 10 second cool down
Blood magic hex spell
Damages hexed for for 20 – 100ish damage (at 12 blood) every time they use a skill or spell on a foe with less health.
At least go with a lesser used skill if you are going to try and pull dumb stunts.
“Let’s Get ’Em!” is a much harder skill to place.
This proves nothing and is quite useless. Every skill in Guild Wars 1 had it uses whether you choose to see it or not.
When they said theif is getting staff for HOT I had this in my mind
A small group of men in brightly colored shirts swinging sticks around and dancing?

Depends on what you want.
Relevance in every part of the game (PvE, WvW, Spvp)? Elementalist
To enjoy the game? Play whatever you like the most.
I usually find that the people asking for certain specifics in a group are the ones who need to be carried through it. I just laugh when they ask to ping gear and leave the group.
This game is so easy you are literally talking about either seconds or a minute of time on encounters. It is just stupid and petty. I have wasted more time in “pro” groups waiting on them to drag Mossman to the water than a standard non-conformed group just running it.
It is a game not a job, I intend on enjoying my time not trying to rush through everything so I can buy crap to stand around all day and show off in a virtual world.
A LB Ranger – thats the kitten I don’t like
This is quite possibly the easiest to over come out of the builds you listed and tons you didn’t. They are not that good… hardly at all.
snip.
Switch to Mesmer or Ele. Better defense, offense and utility. Eventually you will run out of defenses and they will kill you unless they screw up massively. So just switch if you actually want to be competitive.
Your friends are just poor.
I know right? Having to work hard for what they have and sweat. Man, what losers! It is always their fault too, you know? Why don’t they just go to a bank and get more money?
Lets get some ice cream and play with our stocks some more, that will show them.
3 Legendary Weapons + 2 Back Pieces Initially

Anything in writing is a 50/50 shot with anet. You will not know what will be in the game until it is released. I will honestly be surprised if the arena makes it into the guild halls.
Looks like ~50% winning ratio is going to drop quite fast and significantly.
Uh. Not sure how you got to that conclusion?
Because the vast majority of players in Guild Wars 2 are honestly not that good?
To Smurf you have to be above average at playing games. That fact alone makes it highly unlikely anyone in the Guild Wars 2 community can do it. The Warrior was considered OP when it was by and far the worst class in this game…. Or how about when they buffed Ranger longbow and the vast majority of you howled “NERF NOWZZ!”. I highly doubt smurfing will be a problem.
However, I do see veterans crying because someone who just picked up the game destroyed them.
The only thing that will happen is F2P users will try out the pvp and most likely quit after 3 to 4 weeks because of the horrible balance that has plagued this game for 3 years and the fact it is, honestly, very boring. Stronghold will just expedite this issue.
What a horrible, misinformed post.
I see all these twitch channels streaming epic Guild Wars 2 esports pvp. Living the dream right?
The game’s pvp has been dead for a long time. Accept the truth and move on.
Edit: Forgot to add:
I’m new to pvp (mostly do map exploration), and I gotta say, I love stronghold. Best part is I hardly need to fight anyone so I won’t be feeding the enemy team when I play a tanky class. I just run supply all game and still be a big help to my team. Best “pvp” game mode ever! They are doing a good job of introducing new players into pve-
I mean pvp side of this game. ^^
You say this is “best pvp game mode ever” and say “They are doing a good job of introducing new players into pve”?
You can not have 2 game mode together !
Player(s) versus player(s), or PvP, “is a type of multiplayer interactive conflict within a game between two or more live participants”
Here is Correction:
> Player versus environment, or PvE <
“Usually a PvE mode can be played alone, with human companions or with AI companions. The PvE mode may contain a storyline that is narrated as the player progresses through missions. It may also contain missions that may be done in any order”
—————————————————————————-Read this thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/Stronghold-losing-hype-at-an-alarming-rate/first#post5120774I do not blame you for confusion with pvp game mode and pve game mode because that is the problem why Stronghold is bad. Arena net is treating Stronghold like Pve instead of what is suppose to be-PVP- Player versus Player.
" No reason to PvP. After you know the map you just ignore the enemies all together and rush lord "? How is not bad for a pvp game mode?
There was a mmo game that tried the same thing and it failed very fast: did Arena net did not research this?
(edited by Vanthian.9267)
I read through quite a bit of this thread (not all of it) but I failed to see any mention of why and how the Charr actually over threw the human kingdoms. Some of you are actually trying to argue the Charr did it through their own strengths when that is a complete lie. The Charr had no hope against the humans by themselves.
Abaddon and the titans were the cause of the fall of Ascalon. The Charr were merely puppets of the previous.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Cauldron_of_Cataclysm
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Titan
The titans were under direct order from Abaddon to push the Charr against humanity. Without that, the Charr would have been slaughter and pushed back further. It wasn’t the power of the Charr but the power of long forgotten “beings” that killed Ascalon.
(Side note: I am pretty sure the writing team of Guild Wars 2 will try and say the cauldron was powered by the Elder Dragons.)
How do I get stability and/or remove conditions quickly?
Stability: Utility – Balanced Stance, Utility – Dolyak Signet, Trait – Last Stand,
Elite – Rampage, Elite – Battle Standard on Skill 2 use, Utility – Stomp (technically speaking)
Condition Clear: Utility – Signet of Stamina, Utility – Shake it Off, Healing Skill – Mending, Trait – Brawler’s Recovery (Discipline), Trait – Cleansing Ire (Defense), Rune – Trooper Rune (6th bonus applied to shouts)
Skills to stop the application of Conditions: Utility – Berserker Stance, Healing – Healing Signet
cons:
- you can’t 1v1 anyone with same skill atm (besides other thieves ofc)
- you have to rely on your team to hold points as you can’t neither contest them nor defend them
- you can’t stay long in big fights
The first point is false. I have beat plenty of other classes in 1v1 on thief. Engineer, Guardian, Warrior, etc. I use Sword/pistol and just bait until they have no cool downs. It is fairly easy especially since all the cheap teleporting spots are still open (looking at you through floors and ceilings).
The last two are true. Your role is not to hold points, it is to decap and wreck weak people. Your role is not to be in the middle of the team fight. Instead go decap then hit their back.
As to the OP, Ranger is alright and fun but Thief is far more useful. If you want to play at a constant disadvantage then play Ranger. If you want to play a class that is useful and slightly fun go Thief.
I suggest the following be done instead:
1) Rank Points in Practice also known as “Hot Join” be lowered by 33%
Rank points are fine in practice. If you lowered it then made a cap until you could solo q hardly anyone would bother trying to make it.
2) Set a hard cap on how many rewards they can earn in a server day. I would suggest no more than 5 rewards a day from PvP from Practice. This would mean you can only do 1 tier a day from practice.
There is already a cap in hot join for the reward tracks. You can only earn 25% of a track in a given day (not including daily pvp reward potions).
Well tell me why even top players seems to play GW2 kind of badly? I often wonder do they even look what boons enemy have and so on.
First post: There are no pro players in Guild Wars 2. All players are average or slightly below for Guild Wars 2.
The only reason why they are the top is due to actually staying on a team. When there is literally only 5 teams around chances are none of them are honestly great at the game.
No one takes this game’s pvp seriously and it most likely never will be taken seriously as a esports due to who runs it. Anet has done a fantastic job at screwing themselves side ways in this department. Their new pvp map after three years is…. a two lane pve intensive resource driven raid… It is not based on the interaction of players with players but with players and NPC. It is a joke.
But in esport most popular games doesn’t really need that much skill. Maybe GW2 is just too hard and nobody can’t play this game well enough.
Guild Wars 2 is a very easy game to play/reach the skill cap on all professions without really having to devote much time. I don’t believe the game is too hard for people because the bar is set pretty dang low.
Some of the popular esport games are fairly easy to get into and require hardly any skill (LoL for example) but others are impossible for average players in both realms (Starcraft 2).
The only reason to insert drama into a gaming competition would be because the game’s pvp isn’t entertaining enough on its own and the skill required to play is low…… I guess Guild Wars 2 does need the drama after all. Try and keep that unskillful esports dream alive.
just to add, what is wrong with posting your thoughts on the best warriors and acknowledging them for their skills?
Because the game’s pvp is a joke and doesn’t require skill to begin with?
Secondly, there is no one who is really skilled left. Everyone is average or below. The biggest defining status of a “pro” Guild Wars 2 player is if they are on a team, not if they are actually good.
(edited by Vanthian.9267)
So rangers take skill,
Reading comprehension, no where did I say it takes skill to play ranger. They are just at a constant disadvantage in PvP. Ranger vs any other class should be the other class as victor just taking into account class mechanics. This is the state we are in currently. People actually lose to Rangers on Mesmer, Thief, Guardian, etc because they suck hard core. It is both sad and funny. (Now please reply with some outrageous insanely specific situation to counter that).
and no good mmo players play this game anymore. So uhh what mmo they all playing
It is fairly obvious considering there are no real tournaments for this game. The past two have been utter jokes and have received more attention than they should have.
For starters, league of legends has a kitten ton more pvpers, where some are actually quite skilled, and have actual tournaments. Hell, even Path of Exile does it better and they are full on Free to Play.
While the class takes no skill, it isn’t effective atm. I do agree playing an easy class will not make you best at anything tbh.
Every class is easy in this game, however Ranger is not the easiest by a long shot. It is harder playing at a constant disadvantage not easier.
i would like to know how to tell if i am a good or bad player.
You are still playing Guild Wars 2 pvp, you are most likely an average mmo player or below. All the good players left a long time ago. That is why this game’s pvp is a kitten fest and will continue to be so until it dies (which may not be to far off for pvp).
Wow so clearly there are people here that are new or relatively new.
Blurred frenzy was nerfed hard in 2013 May:
Blurred Frenzy CD increased by 20%
This skill now is an evade instead of an invulnerability. So in a time when mesmers were hardly considered for teams ever, and halting strike did jack all for damage mesmer blurred frenzy was double nerfed.
Oh also! This was a time when Anet was considering putting an internal cooldown on deceptive evasion.
So maybe we should look at past nerfs before crying for more? Just maybe. If blurred frenzy is touched again mesmers will have no decent mainhand.
So full of it. Nerfed blurred frenzy? They changed it from a invulnerability to a evade which in this game are the same dam thing. You can’t be controlled or damaged, unless you already have condition on you, with both a evade and invulnerability.
The only thing that slightly affected you is the 20% increase on cool down and even that wasn’t much. It is still just as spamable just like the block for engineers which needs to be toned town.
Mesmer has always been strong 1v1 just like Thief have fine defenses without stealth even if all you people do is kitten the opposite. Most of this community that is left is just to bad to see it. That is why all the actual pvpers abandon ship a long time.
I hear people talking about “high level play”. What does that mean exactly?
For most games it means the pros. Sadly, Guild Wars 2 lost their “high level players” very early on and never fixed the kitten that was wrong with the game to get them back.
This game has floated at “average play” and will continue to do so for the rest of the game’s life more than likely.
In other words: It will remain a joke.
Please ban every engi exploiting this in competitive pvp.
It’s super annoying and I hate watching it happen, but your solution is too extreme. Why punish someone for using the tools that ANET has given to them? Who is really at fault here?
Past experience with something extremely similar shows bans were handed out quite freely. (Karma weapons and chili peppers fiasco!)
Only this time it is game play mechanics instead of economic issues. Lets see who is hypocritical about their stances on “abusing mechanics in game when you should be able to tell it was ‘not intended’ or ‘obviously a exploit’!”
Like what? What kind of meaningful content would you like to see that they aren’t already working on.
How about fixing the existing bugs in game that have been here since launch?
It would be a change for skillful play, but I highly doubt the Thief players on this game want a skillful class. Otherwise they would have asked for this change a long time ago like the pros did before they left.
It would be nice, like the adrenaline loss on miss (which a lot of Thieves cried to have done), but I doubt with this community of Thieves that this will ever happen and actually stay. Even though both promote skillful play and make the game more fun in a pvp setting. There would also be no need for compensation as this should have been standard since launch.
“Why do those who spent the time and effort to get something have it and I don’t when I am unwilling to do so!?!?!?” Jesus Christ.
Reading comprehension is hard, I know but I will clarify. The previous post was aimed at the other poster because he was mentioning that time spent practicing instruments and/or art is more valued than time spent on games. It is a very true statement and for a very good reason.
Time spent in game is mostly that for a lot of people. There is very little skill involved just sitting in front of your computer screen waiting for dailies that never change to roll around. You do the same thing, day in and day out. There is nothing new or challenging once you have remembered all there is about the daily chore.
Ah, but for the people who practice art, music, gymnastics, or any other item in real life improve upon themselves daily. There are always new challenges as life is constantly changing. They are improving their minds and bodies (with the exclusive of art for body). They are also creating wonderful things when they do these things in real life.
There is a vast difference in consuming someone else work and creating it. I was merely pointing this out for the other poster.
As to you, and your comment about about entitlement or what not, I honestly don’t care what digital items you have. They do not define you nor make you who you are in life. Your personality and how you treat others defines you. Much like in life, a Rolls Royce doesn’t make you a good/better person, just rich.
As to the topic on the thread, exclusivity is a stupid concept brought on by games and marketing companies to pry on peoples needs/wants to be different. They make you feel as if you have actually achieved something wonderful when in reality the general populace could easily have done it as well. Once again, the only factor in a majority of the “exclusive” items is time. Did you log in during the event? It is sad when people think that is skillful and/or meaningful in some way.
Why? I’ve seen this comment all the time. People are proud of the time they spend practicing an instrument. People are proud of art pieces they practice to get good at. Why can’t someone have pride in the work they’ve put in to a game they really enjoy? Having pride in accomplishments in a virtual world doesn’t mean they don’t have pride in real world accomplishments also. I’m proud of the fact that I worked hard to get Sunrise, The Minstrel, Bolt, and 3 full ascended armor sets. I’m also proud of the fact that I have a masters in Mechanical Engineering. Neither one takes away from the other. Do I judge them on the same scale? No, but there is still pride in both. They aren’t mutually exclusive. Stop judging people’s psyches on what they get out of a video game solely. It’s moronic.
Because it is not your skill that created those items. Merely your willingness to waste your time to accrue someone else’s art. There is no skill on your part to get these items, merely time sitting and waiting. Where as, in your example, a trumpet player takes his time and improves his skill to levels beyond that of a normal person. Some become so skilled that no one else will ever catch them. Where as, again for your example, all it would take me is mere time, no skill, to craft Sunrise, The Minstrel, Bolt, and 3 full ascended armor sets. Equating skill to merely time wasted isn’t a good policy nor intelligent.
If you want to argue for skill in a video game then you would be best to head to the pvp forum as that is the only place skill comes into play. This comment takes twenty fold for Guild Wars 2 pve. Dungeons and PvE are merely memory, very little skill.
I guess “ill gained” means improperly acquired, which is true for this, even if some people were definitely innocently caught by the bug (i bet they don’t mind if this gets fixed). I’m also willing to bet that there were at least as many people who were excited to get these things when they found out it could work like that.
Like with those who forged cultural weapons when it was a well-known bug. Had they not banned them, people would have been asking rightfully, why the heck do they get away with that?
Instead of blaming and shaming your player base, test the stupid game and get rid of the bugs before you release a half a**ed product. The players who used the vendors within the confines of the system are not to blame but the one who set the parameters. It was Anet’s mistake.
They could have admitted they messed up and then issued a “roll back” on the server. Instead they chose to shame their player base and ban the ones who “abused” it the most. It is like a child’s reaction to being embarrassed. Instead of facing the failure or cause of embarrassment they throw a fit and lash out.
(edited by Vanthian.9267)
To call it “ill gained” implies they did something wrong.
They did do something wrong, they played the game the way it was created. Just like all the people banned for making chili peppers and forging rare cultural weapons back in the day.
Seriously though, don’t expect this company to take any blame on any issue or bug that arises in this game; it is obviously not their fault. I mean, they just made the game.
I usually will say GREAT GAME when it’s a 500 to 50~100 winning game XD.
I am surprised you didn’t have a aneurysm from using all your wit at once coming up with that.
Trying switching your status between invisible then back online. You can access this through your friends menu at the top left corner. It worked for me and a few friends of mine.
Everything in life is a matter of choice.
-has both, the highest health and armor in the game
Alright, that is true but stands for jack when the profession has nothing to back it up.
-because of that our “glass cannon” builds arent as glassy as other professions
Extremely false, you shouldn’t lie to people. You will drop faster than any other
profession running full berserker simply because warriors have almost no active defense due to your point number one above.
-has great self regen, and healing shouts increase your survivability even further
Yes you can spec to be useless in PvE and only be able to sit on a point in PvP while not going down as fast as you would be in glass.
-tons of weapons to chose from
True, it is just a shame that quite of few of the skills are useless compared to a vast majority of other professions skills.
-is able to support via regeneration boons, banners, healing shouts as well as massive spread of might boon
Again useless spec. The might sharing is only good in random groups that are not coordinated/know enough to do anything.
What makes the Warrior appealing to you?
Because in Guild Wars 1, Warriors were machines and to be feared. If I could choose again with the knowledge I have today I most likely wouldn’t play Guild Wars 2 at all. If you are looking for a good class to play I would suggest either Thief, Elementalist, or Guardian. Thief is extremely cheap and easy to play. Elementalist takes a little bit more (not very much mind you) skill to play but deals quite a bit more damage. Guardian is just what the Warrior should have been in terms of defense and offense.
Give it a read. Don’t disregard it because you might feel insulted by the header.
There is wisdom in these words.
That is quite possibly the dumbest thing I have ever took the time to read. The point of games are to have fun and to enjoy competition with one another. The only thing that article is correct on is a win is a win and a loss is a loss. What he suggests that his readers develop is having the mentality of a prick.
Abusing a broken system does not make you talented and skilled. There is such a thing as “decent design”. This is on the developers who create the game and a lot of games fail at it. Guild Wars 2 Spvp happens to fall in the fail category. It is incredibly easy to say the game is “team” oriented so that you can fail at balancing classes.
Yeah, you can test it with a cheap bow or one you already own. Always test though, because you never know.
Healing behind DS is the same concept as healing while Invulnerable. There’s little to no counter play and that’s why it was removed from other classes ages ago like Ele and Engi healing while in Mist form and Elixir S. It’s not going to happen.
Are you one of those people that believe zerk stance and endure pain shouldn’t let you cap point? Invulnerable negates all damage,DS has a limit of how much juice the meat can give before you break the fragile bones and is a class mechanic/resource it’s different from Distortion or Mist Form. Using those skills doesn’t prevent any already applied healing or healing traits to work, true invulnerabilty doesn’t get it but stuff like stealth, stances, blocks does. Do I also need to mention you can CC DS??
At least try to make sense. If the devs are thinking like you it’s just going to go downhill faster.
No, I’m one of those people who understands that Zerker stance and Endure Pain aren’t invulnerabilities…
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
They are not true invulnerabilities. Endure Pain just stops all physical damage not new application of conditions or CC. Berserker Stance only stops new applications of conditions not psychical damage or CC.
Invulnerable implies you can neither be damaged, cced, or have conditions applied. So he is correct. Examples of invulnerabilities, since you are having a hard time reading the skills: Distortion on Mesmer. Elixir S on Engineer. Mist Form on Elementalist.
An L2P issue? No, I play well enough to make Dragon rank.
I laughed for a good while at that. Thanks.
Most longbows preview backwards. At least in my experience.
GW1 is far superior for PVE
GW2 is far superior for pvp/wvw
No… just no. Guild Wars 1 is better for PvE and PvP. Guild Wars 2 just has fancy graphics and a new combat system that is extreme in simplicity. You can also jump now, yay?
I’m looking for a mmo to fill the time before HoT drop, how is GW1 right now? Is it still fun? Also HoM reward is another goal for me, which one do I buy? I’m thinking Platinum edition which contain EoTN, do I have to buy Nightfall/faction?
You do not have to own Nightfall and Factions to play Prophecies and Eye of the North. However, a decent chunk of the Heroes (companion AI) are from Nightfall. From just Eye of the North, if memory serves, you will only get one of each profession as a Hero. With Prophecies you will also be able to get Olias (Necromancer) and Keiran Thackery (Paragon).
With just the Platinum edition you would be able to fill quite a bit of the Hall of Monuments. If you wanted to max nothing but PvE titles (really only possible now as they have placed caps on glory and honor earned daily which makes PvP titles almost impossible to get unless you play daily for years) with Platinum edition you could max out 15 PvE titles, again if memory serves.
You would be missing 15 heroes (not including the new bonus 2 added with Winds of Changes) which is 2 points. You would not be able to craft Faction armors or Vabbian armor which is another 2 points. You would not be able to get a Tormented weapon through game play ( you could however buy one off a player) which is 1 point. Now as I said early you could only max out 15 titles which leaves you 25 titles off of max which is 5 points. So all together you miss out on 10 points (potentially only 9 if you can grind a lot of money).
With only missing 10 points you still max out on psychical rewards. You would only miss a couple of titles (4 to be exact).
As to game play, some call it archaic but I rather enjoy Guild Wars 1 combat to this day. It takes knowledge and skill to build a team that can perform well. Which is completely the opposite of Guild Wars 2 where literally anything can be used. The story is extremely well written and is more than Guild Wars 2 could ever hope to be. The lore is fantastic. There is a reason Guild Wars 2 was so overhyped and it is due to the previous game being amazing.
Howl from Badazar’s Champion (level 7), in Plains of Ashford.
It seems Badazar not only saves the grawl but also the economy.
The story would be much better without any of the new “characters” they introduced. I honestly haven’t finished the story yet because it is so bad. The when, where, and how the lines are “delivered” are horrible and most of them are not needed. I cringe when the amazingly gay duo is on the screen. Keep on reaffirming that relationship. Shove it down our throats, because it is not obvious enough yet. Even Logan and Queen Jennah’s relationship isn’t written this badly (and that one is pretty bad on its own).
At the very least, make a freakin skip button. Maybe then I could finish this so called story. The further along this story goes on the further they burn down the wonderful lore of Guild Wars 1. It has become a complete mockery of itself.
