I would be surprised if there wasn’t with the new business model anet has taken. I know it is dumb to compare the two but….. Guild Wars 1 always had a pre order with extra goodies (extremely minimal mind you) versus just waiting for the expansion.

Yeah, this has been around for a long time now… see My Greatest fear plotline post and others referring to the mess that is the last chunk of personal story being all messed up. May not be fixed, or may be for cohesion in HoT.

I vote it will not be fixed anytime soon considering that there are still fundamental animation problems with some skills since beta. Not to mention all the class bugs that still plague the game. Or the fact some NPCs are still bugged (like in the human personal instance in Divinity Reach with the stacked doppelganger NPC).

They just wing it and only fix it if it is absolutely necessary to do so, otherwise… oh well!

The original game was over hyped to the extent that the vast majority of the Guild Wars 1 players left after 3 months.

It wasn’t hype or boredom that caused the wave of people leaving after 3 months. It was the November 11 ascended gear patch.

That is some what true. A lot of people quit the game because of how it was hyped and sold and was nothing like what they claimed. I think that was a bigger factor with the ascended items just being the final straw to go on their backs.

Specializations eh?

TLDR: The hype train just left station and you’re already complaining about the destination?!

I can understand why considering the company’s past “updates” and “features” added to the game. The vast majority of what they have hyped is beyond dull. The original game was over hyped to the extent that the vast majority of the Guild Wars 1 players left after 3 months. That was before they started the butchery they called their new “lore”.

People getting excited over one elite, utility and a new weapon when past experience with new skills show they are horrible and not worth the time invested to use skill points to unlock them. Do none of you remember the healing skill introduced with the Tower of Nightmares? I suppose not. Very few things added into the game actually brought about something good. I will say some traits they added (that they did not design themselves mind you…) worked very well for game mechanics.

The Guild Wars 2 community is prone to hype for no reason. I am under the impression at this point that the community would hype standard bug fixes and general quality of life updates. When those are things that should be standard policy on products such as a “triple A” mmo.

As to the new class, I am curious to see what they do. The new mastery system? It will most likely be another failed attempt at something new like Guild Wars 2 in general (the event system anyone? No more auto attacks, lol yeah…). I wouldn’t hold my breath. Rather, I will wait it out and see what it is first before hyping it, because odds are it will not even be worthy of mention in the long run with the company currently working on it.

I bought the hype 2 years ago and learned from a $80 mistake. Sadly, I still hold out hope they will see their flaws and go back to what made Guild Wars 1 great, but I do believe, at this point, that ship sailed before they even launched the game.

You have a right to your opinion but the Warrior in Guild Wars 1 was far more skill based and vastly superior to group play. The Warrior in Guild Wars 2 can do nothing better or as good in comparison to the other professions. The only thing they have better than other professions are their banners (that is literally it).

You mention Monks being able to use Warrior defensive stances better… but completely fail to mention the Warrior spear build that completely rolled a Paragon at his own game. Or the Warrior dagger build with shadow steps that plagued AB and Fort Aspen wood for months.

The Warrior in Guild Wars 2 is a complete joke. The only reason they became a problem is due to all the decently skilled people leaving the game. Now you have the terror of the most general form, auto attacks! oh no!

The op is talking about the kittened design of stealth in this game not a single stack of bleed/poison/torment. It is pretty stupid the thief can activate and actually land the 6th bonus of these runes while in stealth and not be revealed. It is the same complaint that housed the changed for the shortbow poison cloud. A Thief in no way should be able to stack a condition on a target in stealth and stay in stealth.

Hundred Blades at 1500 range while moving…seems legit.

So Hundred Blades can be countered with Reflect or Block now? Cool story.

Nah, you only need to move. That’s a special skill you can use with wasd.

Ways to mitigate Hundred Blades:
1. Move out of the way.
2. Dodge.

Ways to mitigate Rapid Fire:
1. Move out of the way (behind an object).
2. Dodge.
3. Reflection.
4. Missile Destruction.
5. Block while at range.

I think that the bigger list of mitigation possibilities certainly counters the fact that it can be used at range and while moving.

or for the whiners complaining about 1500 range hits, backup 3 steps.

and you still get hit….

There is a bug/exploit that allow ranger to exceed the 1500 range limit.

i heard the max is actually past 2000 because the way the channel works.

Only un-targeted in most situation on certain spots. Try standing slightly back on top of a hill and watch the Ranger “rapid fire” directly into the hill top. It doesn’t take much in this game to LOS. Even then, if the Ranger is at a slightly lower elevation than the target then arrow will not reach past 1500 (if it can even go 1500).

Even if engi was OP, they still require more skill to play than all of the current and previous OP builds, so i am perfectly ok with this.

I love how more options turn into “more skill”. Thats total garbage. If you just have non-stop skills at your disposal and a oh-crap button for every single situation thinkable doesn’t mean you’re a good player because you actually did that skill at that time.

Having more options and an array of skills at your disposal is like saying “hey a helicopter is harder to fly than a paper plane because helicopters have more buttons.” Take the necromancer as the paper airplane and hop on to see how far you can fly… and how easy it is to do so.

Bad logic. Bad cover-up. Its just disingenuous and quite frankly gets old to people who see right through that crap.

Agreed. They need a cool down on kit swapping. Kind of bs they can flop between kits whenever they choose with only a 1 second cool down to going back to the original kit. Even Elementalists have a cool down on their attunements. Think if they only had a 1 second cool down on those >.>

This is a change that should have happened a while ago (much like reveal on miss/block/etc stealth attacks). It introduces skillful play into the game which is obviously devoid of such a thing at this point.

With the current setup of the other professions it is a bad move. However, if they remove the hand holding of other classes it would be the correct move for interesting game play (pvp wise anyway).

And imo most “vets” (gw1) players left (not even sure its such a huge number because of how many “vets” are always talking in world and forums) because they expected a game like GW1 but GW2 is a very different game. (more open map/less private instances)

But again I do agree it has to be done right so my eyes don’t bleed every time I’m in WvW.

A lot of people talk about being a veteran Guild Wars player but it is hard to tell who actually stuck with Guild Wars 1 for 7 years from launch and waited on Guild Wars 2 for over 6 years (It started development in 2006 along side of Guild Wars Utopia which became Eye of the North expansion for Guild Wars 1 which lead up to the Elder Dragons debut) mainly due to the fact you can just google half the crap that happened.

I can say personally I know a entire guild that has quit the game (about a year and nine months ago) that were all Guild Wars 1 veterans. The main difference between Guild Wars 1 players and Guild Wars 2 is the center of their play. Most of the Guild Wars 1 community was pvp centric ($100,000 dollar tournaments quite often). Guild Wars 2 is not (to be nice about it).

Used to have? I’ve been playing GW since the early days of GW1. I just feel that titles can be more lucrative and by giving it a nice effect that doesn’t affect those made by legendaries would be more of an incentive to acquiring them. I almost feel like your trying to insult rather then give a point of view. :/

Well… things didn’t really get out of hand flashy in Guild Wars 1 till Nightfall (so much glowing crap).

There is no need for all the eye assaulting items in this game. The legendaries and effects of spells are bad enough on their own. It isn’t the fact my computer can’t handle it but at some point more is too much. The spell effects by themselves in this game are to much to be honest. Have you ever stood on a boss in the middle of a zerg and actually tried to look for your character? it is literally impossible to see.

Back when Guild Wars 1 launched they had sensible rewards that look good and felt unique without this Godly Aura pouring forth. It just shows a extreme difference in values from then and now. It is quite obvious the community has flipped (mainly because of lot of the originals quit).

Why run power over condition in PvP/WvW?

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Vanthian.9267

Vanthian.9267

That reasoning coupled with the initial advantage classes like Warriors, Rangers and Guardians have with newcomers might explain why Mesmers are so rare. We’re far from weak though, and well, not really the point of the thread. This isn’t about Mesmer or Thief or whatever at all. Except maybe Guardian, all classes can viably compare a condition and a power build, usually multiple.
In all such situations, the condition build falls apart outside of smallest-scale encounters, while power is useful across the board. There’s very little reason to play condition as a result, which also shows in the builds used.

The only reason you don’t see more Mesmer and Thieves in sPvP is due to game type.

Go roam in WvW, at least 60% of what you run into will be Thieves. Then 35% is split between Mesmers and Engineers. That last 5% is the rest. (numbers are personal results). That should give you a good idea of the class disparity between the given professions in this game.

The only reason why power builds are used in WvW is for the blob action. As when you stack Guardians and Elementlists there are far to many condition cleanses between the two that you will not be killing anything with conditions. Your only hope is to try and out power their healing, which can be accomplished with 40+ people pressing 1 with power builds.

Why are Thieves and Mesmer not over represented in blobs? Thieves have no reliable way to cleave at range (while achieving respectable dps). Mesmers are plentiful in blobs but are sub-par compared to Elementlist DPS. Warriors are used solely for the CC they can provide. You might find a couple of power Necromancers as they are face roll easy when they have their Lich Form. Rangers are less common, because again Elementlist are the kings of AoE dps no question. Engineers are seen but again Elementlist. So forth and so on.

Thieves and Mesmers are the hands down best two professions for PvP. It is due to game types in Guild Wars 2 they don’t get more play. The minute a death match style is made in the form of 2v2 or 3v3 that is all there will be in those aside from the occasional death wish guy.

:On topic:

Power over conditions for blobs because of stackable cleanses. Elementalist, Guardian, or Warrior for blob due to group synergy (also the occasional Engineer). Solo play Mesmer, Thieves, or Engineer.

I play warrior, but ok. And when did AI suddenly become so strong? Like I’m 583% sure that’s where most of the complaints about ranger go to, the pet, the AI. A minion mancer has no stun breaks, no condi cleanse and is an easy opponent. “Unblockable marks”, you need to put at least 4 points in death magic to get that, and it really isn’t that good of a trait either. So yes, I said it before and I shall say it again, if you are a warrior having trouble with a condi necro, adapt and learn to play.

Ai has always been a bane in this game (Mesmer is a prime example of a easy to profit class). As it is a free projectile block, extra damage, and a target hazard. Why wasn’t mm necromancer a problem early on you ask? Because their minions were broken for well over 1 year before anet decided to actually admit there was a problem with them (not attacking at all in most cases).

Choose to remain blind and go with the gaggle of this community if you wish, but I will say this: There are no more decent players left in this game. The best you will get is average as evidence by all the horrible lazy passive builds being played by the “pros” in the tournaments. You more than likely believe the Warrior is OP (as does 90% of these community for no other reason than a lot of people play them) which is also absurd when most other classes far outshine them in damage and defense and two for mobility (and only 2 for mobility if the Warrior chooses to completely kitten himself with a horrible sword/x — greatsword build).

And yes, in sPvP on point fighting with greater marks is amazing (because if you are not fighting on point, then you are wrong).

Warrior can deal with conditions so easily, like I don’t know if it’s a new trend for warriors to complain about necros, but this isn’t the first thread I’ve seen crying about necros. L2P the class, warrior is easy mode, if you struggle on a warrior perhaps the game has too many buttons and you should try something like pacman or solitaire.

Warrior to me has been a blast. Great in every game mode, easy to play and challenging to play well vs challenging AI and good players.

ANET will officially kill off warriors in this next patch. By the promotion of passive play and destruction of warriors life line adrenaline.

Many out there are now welcoming these changes and I hope that you are happy that you got what you wanted. You had lobbied ANET each and every day for ANET to NERF warriors. But had you ever stopped for one second to realize the problem wasn’t warriors and it wasn’t the class you play but it was you.

All us warriors ever wanted was enough sustain to become viable. Once we finally got a reasonable amount of sustain which still wasn’t as high as some other professions had. People began to beg ANET to nerf our DPS and systematically warrior has been reduced to now less DPS than a guardian as well as less sustain.

With almost all of our sustain, our DPS, and Our CC being tied to one thing adrenaline you can now officially say goodbye to warriors. Congratulate yourself in making warriors free bags again and holding warriors to a standard now higher than any other profession is held to.

The Warrior profession was in a worse spot at launch and the next 9 months after that than it will be after this patch. I have mainly played a Warrior since Guild Wars and will not change.

At least Warrior is not last on the totem poll (yet)…

Why run power over condition in PvP/WvW?

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Vanthian.9267

Vanthian.9267

Ok so basically you either play passive AI condi builds or a semi active AI condi build.

Thank you for clearing this up and this completely explains your erroneous stance on this.

You realize I play a Mesmer, yes? The part where I need to spawn clones or phantasms to use my class ability is something you heard about, yes?

Just making sure, because I don’t want to simply file your reaction under strawman.

But under the assumption that one should never attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by a lack of information (in this case):

  • Mesmer has Satter (sic, or word filter gets it) as their class mechanic. It takes the existent Illusions and destroys them for a specific effect.
  • The four abilities are: Mind Wrack , Cry of Frustration , Diversion and Distortion .
  • Each ability can only be used without Illusions active with a specific grandmaster trait from the illusion line, Illusionary Persona . However even with that, output is minimal without illusions to feed to the skills.

So as you can see, all Mesmer specs always heavily rely on AI-controlled temporary pets. Either to use them for output, for utility effects or simply for feeding them to another skill.

Tried of everyone and their mother saying “Straw Man” to everything they disagree with…

At this point I automatically assume the people of Guild Wars 2 have 0 clue as to what or how that termed is used. Trying to sound intelligent and being so are two very different things.

Also, Mesmer is a extremely easy to profit class. Mesmer and Thieves are the easiest to play and profit with little investment of skill. It is a fact regardless of this now desegregated community’s comments on the subject. It was the opinion of all the original pro players that made Guild Wars the name it was (and no longer is….) and not to mention it is fairly obvious.

Warrior adren and thief stealth attacks

First off I play both so I’m not really biased towards either thief or warrior, but since those are the only 2 I play I’ll compare these 2 only. But I feel like with the changes to adren, then thief needs to be revealed if their attack from stealth gets blocked also it’s pretty much the evuivelant IMO.

I’m sure this has been brought up before somewhere but I’m on my phone at work and it’s hard enough to read through the forums, just wanted to see everyone’s opinion on this and feel free to bring up other stuff from other professions

Similar requests have been made in the past. Myself and another group had asked for the adrenaline dump on miss/block/etc before cleansing ire was even in game and for the reveal on missed/blocked/etc stealth attacks.

Anet will continue to hold the hands of Thieves because a large majority of them would just quit if they actually made it take skill to play the class (same reason why Mesmer clones persist and deal the same damage until shattered or destroyed, or the same reason why the un-dead minions of necromancers do not have high health degeneration).

Adrenaline dump on miss/block/etc is a step in the right direction for skillful play. Now they need to address the other above mentioned lazy/extremely passive play styles and hand holding bs.

Is anyone happy anymore?

Do you know, I didn’t see Titanic for years, because I knew how it ended. The ship sunk.

What? Kitten! Spoilers! Just for that, Bruce Willis (nobody else read the rest of this sentence) was a dead people the whole time! So there.

Speaking of icebergs, are game forums are the tip of a metaphorical iceberg?

.

I’m not going to dignify your straw man arguments with a proper response,

You couldn’t form a proper response anyway, but thanks for trying.

What was typed is all true and to the point and brings valid questions to the forums. Just because fan boys care not to remember what has actually happened and transpired doesn’t mean everyone will.

How does their previous actions against players using in game systems not go with this topic? Right, they do. Anet’s previous action will always shine light on how they operate and choose to respond to situations. Previous actions against players were wildly over done and never acknowledged. So, judging by track record it is more than likely to happen again than not.

Secondly, just because you read some poor saps opinion and he used the magical word now thrown around by every fan boy, “Straw Man”, doesn’t mean you know when and how to apply it. The above is inductive reasoning. Learn the difference.
