I’ve had about 10 warnings.
Wait for the blog post this week.
I am awaiting the following series of updates with trepidation.
Being a bit of a pessimist, the only PVE content (other than bug fixes I hope) I expect is more fractals and ascended gear. I think that these series of updates are going to give a good indication of future direction the game is going to take.
Hopefully I am wrong and there is more than what I stated above for PVE.
We already know that fractals is getting a fix, and that is happening this month.
But I believe this post will describe the next 6 months.
I do believe they will have a better reward system. Perhaps we’ll have a token system, more karma rewards, dungeon improvements, more DE’s.
Remember that Colin is stressing improvement of the current game, rather than expanding it.
Remember guys, you need 250 obsidian shards, in addition to the shards you spent for clover.
So overall you need at least roughly 350 shards.
The clover really isn’t something you need to worry about – lodes and precursor are important (but they should be left last)
Wait for the blog post this week.
-wide variety of armor (not town) skins
No, I’am not getting tired.

Define your legit/non speculative way to save up 500+ G in 1 month….
You can grind shelt/pen hardcore for a week and a half and get 500G. You can easily get that in a month.
It’s a bug. 99% of the time you get the correct type.
FYI I have thrown 300g worth of rares into the forge since release. No precursor.
Then again, I got two legendaries and had Dusk drop for me.
You can do that here, and also have the option of vertical progression.
Moving on
They can be bought but there is only so much that can appear in “Pick Up”
However, there is a queue for Pick Up..
So let’s say that a max of 100 items can be listed on Pick Up, but you bought 300. The queue will hold the other 200 items. You’ll have to press “Take All” three times to get everything.
Because Mini pets only come from the Minis 3-Pack and the exotic drop rate from that is low.
Because he wants Flameseeker Prophecies.
But anyway, good for you, I’m leaving the precursor for last, since I don’t know right now if I want to spend my time gambling.
Then sell Dusk for 580G, buy flameseeker for 200g, and then have 380G left to pay for whatever else you need.
Didn’t read everything, but you’re doing it wrong.
Why would you throw in shields in the forge, and end up with a 200g precursor, when you can throw in greatswords in the shield, and end up with a 380-580g precursor.
That is, assuming that you are crafting your rares rather than buying off the TP.
All MMOs are a grind. If you don’t like that, go play an RTS or FPS.
You are under no obligation to reveal that information John Smith, ignore these guys :P
I’d much rather talk about the economics of Guild Wars 2.
-How do you feel about controlling inflation? Do you think the gold sinks we have in the game are sufficient enough to keep the value of gold steady overtime?
Inflation is a really tricky topic. One important thing to understand about inflation (the EVE guys have done a great job explaining this) is that it isn’t a change in the quantity of money available, it’s a change in prices (not individual prices). It’s easy to double the money supply and not inflate the economy.
I won’t speak to our specific strategies, but there are a couple of different ways to go. An interesting strategy that not many people think about is allowing the economy to inflate a bit, then pulling the money back out in a cycle ( many countries do this, but not on purpose :P ) There are specific benefits to this, that only occur as benefits in games.Good job understanding the narrow meaning of the term inflation while missing the overall point. Shockingly, “inflation” is commonly accompanied by an increase in (or concentration of) the money supply and/or fear. As hard as it is to believe, when people have more money, the price point in a competitive (scarce resource) market rises.
Sure thing Mr Economist
There are already several threads on this..
Because:
The cost of T1 is appropriate relative to the level you can get it at
The same with T2
The cost of T3 is also appropriate for level 80s, considering it’s an “end-game” cultural set.
Have you ever considered allowing gambling in-game? Perhaps on sPvP tournaments? It might serve as an interesting way for folks to earn gold and take some gold/energy out of trading post speculation. (And it could serve as an additional gold sink as well.)
Or maybe it would just make everything worse?
The mystic toilet isn’t enough gambling for you? lol
Might want to post in yaksbend.com too.
there was a slight rollback, very rarely happens
Yup, gotta love those rollbacks. Suddenly I just lost the tiny bit of motivation to play I still had left.
if you’re going to lose motivation over a tiny rollback (and it rarely happens), then it probably isn’t a game for you
When I say the last round of banning encompassed, I mean those who were banned created that many.
Hmm, I don’t know if you can divulge this type of information but it doesn’t hurt to ask…
when accounts get banned, do all the items they currently have listed in the TP get deleted, thus removing them from the market and making it easy to restore the market to what it was previously?
BTW thank you for responding to people here, it is enlightening to get the ‘other’ sides POV
Why do you want them, btw? Overall they’re not worth it and the drop chance of a permanent trade or banker is probably lower than getting a precursor.
2. The economy is so massive and filled with good players that RMT holds relatively little total percentage of the economy. To give some perspective on banning for exploits. Our last round of snowflake banning encompassed greater than 275,000 illicitly created ectos.
Wow, seriously? Someone else from ANet (it might have been you, John, I can’t remember) said that there were fewer than 200 total bans. Less than 200 people managed to make over 275,000 ectos?!
As far as I remember those 200 total bans were those who exploited heavily. And those people were the ones who massively abused the system.
Remember that the exploit was that you could get more ectos than you would invest
Here is a tip
If you go to the top right of your inventory and click the drop down menu, you can see “Deposit Collectibles”
This puts all your crafting mats into a special bank tab which is easily sorted.
If the items are already in your bank, just right click and it will also say deposit collectible.
I should also add, which I said months ago, is that you need to look at Arenanet’s past actions.
Shortly after release they made a temporary recipe to adjust for huge supply on the outpost. The materials you got could later be used to build Mystic Forge Nodes. They could do the same here.
They won’t reveal that information because it would have an adverse reaction on the market for that item.
They could very well be a new use for that item since it has limited use and it’s a rare quality drop. It’s also much easier than coding new crafting materials in future expansions.
As an act of self-disclosure, I have 40g worth of piles in the bank, hoping value will skyrocket. It’s a very safe investment.
I have 1619 hours logged on this game 70% of that time was trying to get gold to buy my precursor. I refuse to buy gold to get one. I think that that 100/200 gold tab would work great. Then I I would know how much gold I have to get in order to get one and would not have see the never have look at AH to see each day. My precursor up 20- 50 gold each day. I feel like whit this much time in the game I should have alest seen one drop by now.
I don’t know what the heck you are doing, but I’m at 1100 and have two legendaries. By now you should have had more than enough gold made to buy one precursor or even afford a Legendary.
This thread will probably be moved
1.) Cursed Shore – Harrowed Sea (+5 water bots)
2.) Yaksbend (and probably other servers too)
3.) Evening, EST, so +7. I don’t camp there the whole day but I always see them there when I pass by.
After 6 months I enjoy this game tremendously. I already have two legendaries and working on two more.
But then again people here would probably just call me a gold buyer
I don’t think you’re a gold buyer, you just enjoy the game more than I do at the moment. For that I kind of envy you. As I said, I’m actually looking forward to people saying that I’m wrong because you can do X and Y and Z for in the game if you’re looking for fun or reward or teamwork.
I seem to enjoy grinding than most people do, having been brought up playing Korean MMOs.
This game has grind (as all MMO’s do), so if people out there don’t like grind, I think they need to reassess if they want to play MMOs or go play a skill-based game like RTS’.
Someone doesn’t follow dev posts..
We do this already with all 5 temples.
You are under no obligation to reveal that information John Smith, ignore these guys :P

You do know that it’s more efficient to farm shelt/pen and use that money to buy cores?
At this point I can honestly say I think the only reason you are not doing this is because you are trying to work a hook into the Gem store for the precursor to generate more gem sales. There isn’t a logical explanation beyond that when the alternative of a TAB is far easier to implement and better for the game economy overall.
So about that Scavenger hunt …
What other silly theories are you going to come up with?
I have two legendaries, Bifrost and Sunrise, both acquired through crafting (not buying through TP)
Probably repeated above, but here are my general tips:
-Always do clovers before buying all your T6 components. The clover failures will most likely give you what you need to supply certain gifts.
-never farm lodestones. The drop rate is atrocious and mobs are so spaced out that your average drop rate per hour is horrendous. If you want the most gold per hour, I suggest grinding shelt/pen. Sucks? Yeah, but if you want your legendary, you need to suck it up. Buy your lodestones – but always keep an eye on the market, as it is often more cheaper to buy cores.
-leave precursor last if you can. I don’t see price dropping any further and there may be a chance the scavenger quest comes out before you finish it. If you wish to try the forge, go for precursors that sell the highest (like greatsword or dagger). Sell the precursor and buy the one for Bolt, leaving you with extra money.
-badge farming. As much as possible, participate in WvW Friday-Sunday. That’s when there are many people and zerg trains that you can follow. If you don’t like that, make sure you do jumping puzzles on your BL, and if possible, the one in EB. Do this for all alts.
I want my 3rd and 4th legendaries.
I’ve worked hard for both of my legendaries, Bifrost and Sunrise. 1K hours.
I invested carefully in several items to afford my Bifrost, which I bought for 145G after the Karka event. I got it around mid November.
Throughout December I grinded hard and bought Dawn for 380G. Shortly thereafter I got dusk to drop and sold it for 575g. That made it easier to afford Sunrise.
You probably sent/received a large sum of gold over the mailing system.
I’m not sure why having to deal with another tier of gear is so repulsive to many people. Still don’t understand the furor over the ascended items.
There is no way in this game to gearcheck people, and the incremental increases are miniscule that you won’t tell the difference.
Heck, speccing properly is more important than gear.
Maybe the people who run lvl40 fractals are very strict on gear requirements, but those guys are hardcore and elitists (hey, I’m one too). But if you want to hang with the big boys who do the hard content, then it’s fine for them to have those requirements fulfilled.
The game as it is right now is perfectably doable in rare gear. There is no need to rush to go gear up on full exotics or ascended when it’s released.
Gold sinks are fine when the means of acquiring sufficient gold are there. The problem people are experiencing, and why you see these threads, is that gold in terms of income and expenses is unbalanced in the favor of expenses. These kinds of balance issues are to be expected in a new game, but I worry that the presence of RMT will complicate things. The game is currently not rewarding for those averse to the TP Tycoon mini-game.
Yes, you can make a load of money of the TP. But you can also make a good amount of money playing the game.
I grinded hardcore in a week and a half. And I ended up with 500g.
If you’re not hardcore, then you can still do dungeons and end up with a ton of money
Site is smooth now, thanks for the fixes
What I’d like to know is, how many of these ominous power sellers/buyers are there and what is their real impact on the TP?
There are a few hundred players with a wealth beyond 1.000 g and at least about a dozen players who exceed 10.000 g.
The wealthiest player managed to make several hundred thousand gold from the TP, abusing every little design flaw.
This is achieved by (there are more tricks, bugs & exploits used ):
- Use of “hacks” to automatically extract the information from the TP (guess how GW2Spidy works, it uses a basic “hack” to update itself by accessing the TP server directly)
- Use of external tools to calculate margins on forgeable items (includes salvaging, regular crafting and MF crafting)
- Use of external statistic tools to predict daily / weekly / event based price fluctuations
- Cheating around TP fees (it is possible, not all traders do that)
- Placing orders, selling and withdrawing items automatically (this is new, since December there are bots which can do the TP without human interaction, not all traders do that)
aaaaaaw .. NOOOES!
you forgot one aditional tool those kittens use – calc… shh, not so loud .. calculators! cheaters i tell you, they are all cheaters! rofl the spidy-hackers ^^
Yeah, and it’s a website! Shame those gw2spidy developers, using a website to distribute data that is available to everyone else
They aren’t any recipes for rifles.
I think we we have discovered most of the possible recipes.
The only recipes that have not been discovered yet are those that use very expensive Gifts, like those using 100 lodestones.
A pretty big oversight to have only one rifle that can be crafted from the forge.
I think you are putting way too much emphasis on the original seller wanting to buy your item to flip later, when you should also be looking at the demand of an item.
I can’t speak as a power trade or a market manipulator, because I’m neither, but I have had significant wealth in the game and I never made an effort to keep constant track of items that I listed. Yes, I could profit off using your method of buying the undercutter but it is still a huge risk.
I think you have a better chance at buying Rare dyes and throwing them in the forge, as that way you’ll always get a rare back and Abyss has just as much chance to come back as any other rare dye, it’s not like Dusk, whereas it’s a rare item. It’s just a colored dye made valuable by the market because everyone wants black.
Abyss Dye is still a controlled item. Its price isn’t where it’s at because of demand.
Yes it is. With your rationale, all other rare dyes should be 22G. But other dyes don’t have nearly as much demand as Abyss and the price reflects that.
