lol everyone here is gonna get tricked into buying useless stuff.
It’s not a matter of being honest.
In GW1, players did the same thing, asked for some things in game and demanded answers. The devs said absolutly not, it will never happen, no way, no how, stop asking, end of story.
A few years later, they added some of the features that they had said would never happen. You cannot predict the future, so saying something will never happen, would not be a smart thing to do.I bet you get splinters on your bum from sitting on the fence so often…lol
Seriously tho, that sounds like a cop out excuse. Game ideas, designs may change in years to come. But if a company has no intention now of adding something then say so. If for whatever reason in a few years time they change their mind, then all they have to do is simply announce that ther are going to do it.
It doesnt mean they were lying before, just that things have changed.
MMO players are fickle and unreasonable. If they said flat out no now, and then changed it later, can you imagine how incensed people would be?
Look at these forums. Just imagine if there was another tier of gear released above legendaries, or if there were raids, or if lvl cap was raised?
If Arenanet said yes, we will consider, people would go crazy and create unnecessary threads about it. “You promised us mounts this month, where is it?”
If Arenanet said no, and then later on changed their mind, people would go crazy again and say ,“You lied to us”
So it’s better to just keep the response open.
If a second player runs up and hits the champion once while you’re fighting it, does that mean you’ve griefed?
I think the main idea is to encurage players to start figting a mob, even without other players around you. People tend to run away from groupe events on the map instead of piling up, fearing that no other players will appear and they’ll have to face them selfs the dificult content.
I suggest you very sligtly increase the reward when a content is acomplised by fewer than suggested players (beter chances in drops), and give soloers a very small chance to drop “a medal” that can ether be worn for cosmetic reasons or sold for 10 silver to a vendor.
I believe the “one person droped a hit and go away” problem can easilly be fixed by making the system check who has done 90% of the work. This suggestion is not the best solution in the “runing away from group events” problem. But at this point anything will do.
Personally I suggest to put some beter rewards on groupe events (chance to drop something rare), and have the champion mob starting the fight softly, and hit hard only once it gets bellow 90% of it’s health.
Before they attempt any of that they need to fix the system for checking “90% of the work” there is more to fighting than just dealing damage. Buffs/deduffs/CC/etc. can drastically alter the outcome of fight.
Then how do you balance contribution among healers, cc’ers and dpsers?
You can’t.
You guys are going to regret transferring to a t1 server. Queue times are hours long and there’s no guarantee you’ll have people in your guild on at the same time to coordinate.
Is eternity animation finished? or just gonna stay like a mixed sunrise/twilight day/night with no footprint on it? cuz if it is maybe is better just keep both weapons on same character :P
Whats worst is that sunrise is probably the most expensive legendary and owners don’t even get the logging screen medal, how backwards is that!
That’s a bug identified by the devs.
What’s with all this whining about losing? This was expected, and it’s going to happen next week when Yaks faces Kaineng. This is what happens you free transfers are closing. Servers that were in T4/T5 receive a huge influx of players, which pushes the server to possibly T2 status. They’re in the wrong tier.
It’ll take several weeks to fix this. If you don’t want it, go join a T1 server that rolls over everyone else but has 5 hour queues.
Yes. Both servers could end up in T2. Have fun killing each other.
Facts:
-Precursors will NOT be available for Laurels (Colin clearly said that in a post).
-There will not be a fixed recipe any time soon (unless someone from Anet lied somewhere or intentionally didn’t mention this even when asked directly).
-There will be a small chance to get it in certain places in the world soon (might be 28th might be in February) until Scavenger hunt that is in April or later. Those places can be Dragons, certain events, certain bosses (maybe even inside Arah), JPs (we don’t know yet and I’m not sure they will even mention where they add them in the 28th release notes, if it’s happening then).Opinions:
It’s not dropping in price, not by much, I find this TO SUCK VERY MUCH. They admit there’s a problem, they know fixing it right will take them 5+ more months (they knew it’s bad since before Karka), they refuse to add any temporary fix and just plan to add a few more places where you can “get it, but it’s a small chance” (paraphrasing MMOFTW video from 18th) when they know this won’t fix anything at all and just force a few more ppl into trying to grind those spots for Mystic Forge-like chances (at least it wont cost gold).I’m waiting to be proven wrong … maybe if the drop rate is something like 2-4% from each dragon and each really hard JP (I’m looking at Griffonrook run and the one in Malchor’s leap + a few others) and each Temple in Orr and each Meta event (all done at lvl 80). Then we are talking drop rates similar to Warglaives from WoW except it won’t have 1 attempt/week .
2-4% is way too high. That’s way higher than the exotic drop rate as it stands.
also, Mesmer portals for JP. That won’t happen.
1.) There is a tax since it acts as a gold sink. Without sufficient gold sinks, there would be inflation, which is not a good thing.
2.)There is a tax for everything you sell, whether that’s through listing it or directly selling it to a buyer. You do not get charged for listing buy orders (i.e. you want to buy Dawn)
3.) There is no reliable place to deal in the black market, and this forum isn’t (thread will get locked). Not to mention, you are opened to being scammed, or becoming a scammer.
It doesn’t take long to grind up the gold to get it. Grind a week and you’ll get the 30-40g required to list it.
“Charr and norn refugees crawl from the wreckage of their homes in the Wayfarer Foothills and Diessa Plateau, struggling to find shelter in the south.” If this means that there will be visible, semi-permanent changes to the terrain in those game maps, and whole new heart quests and DE chains, to reflect the passage of time in the game world, like the destruction of the Lion’s Arch lighthouse only more so, then I can only say one thing about that:
AWESOME!!! I’ve been waiting for an MMO role playing game where the game master would have the tools to change the world based on events happening, ever since I discovered the genre back in ’04.
(The more so because I’m really not all that fond of Diessa Plateau. I’d miss Wayfarer’s pretty green valley and bucolic homesteads, though.)
That’s nice and all, but I don’t think they actually said that GMs would be making decisions in game to change the map…Not entirely sure where you read that idea.
The prelude summarizes all the new features that are coming.
Fractals are not new, they are being updated and polished.
As Colin stated, expect detailed patch notes on the day of the patch.
the ideas are simple but the implementation is not. It would take quite an overhaul of the outpost to deal with the changes and make sure it is not getting lagged.
If you were here during release, the outpost was done for close to a month because it was unresponsive to players. Now imagine the outcry if that were to happen again due to unforeseen bugs if they were to implement changes.
I know there arnt any mounts to come for this patch, but are you saying there wont be any mounts implemented ever??
It’s very safe for them to never say never. You can’t specualate what will happen down the road that may change their minds.
It’s “confirmed, children exist” from factions all over again.
Yes. Horses exist. Cats exist. Ocean Dwelling demontype lanternfish exist. Some things can just be assumed. This does not mean you get mounts. Or at least, I hope so.
I see this statement a lot on GW2 themed forums and i do not understand it. Is there anything wrong with mounts in mmo games or in GW2 in particular? Do they imbalance gameplay in any way? Is it against lore or for some aesthetic reasons? If anyone could explain it to me I would be grateful.
They said from the very beginning that they did not plan on having mounts here.
I cannot remember the details but I remember mentioning that characters as it is are fast enough to move around and explore the map. Not to mention we already have waypoints in the game.
I’m pretty sure Colin stated that there will be other ways to get a precursor, not including the scavenger hunt.
They’ve had those items since release.
And the game hasn’t died.
So no, that doesn’t ‘kill’ the game.
And that concern is this: I’m worried that this entire multi-month event is just setting the stage for the first expansion, and that we’ll have to buy the expansion to get the full story. GW1 managed to introduce entire post-campaign storylines of a fairly significant size and did it entirely for free, so I sure hope GW2 isn’t drumming up this multi-month event for additional drama when they announce the first expansion. That’d be awfully disappointing.
Colin, mind putting my fears to rest, please?
This is not a live storyline that requires you to purchase an expansion to discover the ending, no. This month is a small pre-cursor / lead-in to kick off a storyline that will play out over the coming months.
Might not want to use the word precursor, people are gonna freak out! :P
Well what do you want? Unlimited accounts on a server?
Why would they remove content that they worked so hard to make? If anything, they add to it..
This has absolutely nothing to do with the scavenger hunt, which is probably still in the planning stages. I doubt it will be ready within 6 months.
I have only came across one goblin and it dropped only three items, one rare.
If anyone has ever played Diablo 3, the fun is not the loot, but the endless train of mobs that you aggro just to kill the guy.
You’re losing out on efficiency and gold per hour if you’re farming sparks themselves.
Farm shelt/pen, make a lot of money and buy cores to forge up to lodestones.
If you’re only going to play 1-2 hours a day, then you really shouldn’t be making a legendary your goal. There will be another game out there by the time you get it that will pique your interest.
Nothing about ecto drop rates has changed what so ever, we’d make sure to call this out if it was changed.
Why has the price of ectos gone up by like 20% in the past week?
Something’s gotta be at fault here… Did you nerf rare drop rates or something?
I haven’t noticed a difference in the rate I get good salvages, but I’ve noticed a MARKED decrease in the number of rares I get out of fractals, which has led to many fewer ectos piling up in my bank over the last week.
Out of about a dozen fractal runs in the past week, I’ve managed only 20 ectos because the rare drop rate seems to have decreased.
Of course it could just be my imagination or bad luck. Just a theory.
There was a massive bot ban wave last week. This is why T6 prices have jumped up in some cases to 100% and more.
Legendaries are already a joke. When I see someone walking around with a legendary, the first thing that comes to mind is how sad it is they spent that much real world money on a few pixels. It should not be that way.
To be fair, I wouldn’t assume they spend real world money, cause that would be $700-1400 if buying gold from a gold sellers, and $2000-$4000 if buying Gold with Gems. the amount of people to actually do that compared to the amount of people who do have a legendary is going to be very small, very small. So if anything instead of thinking they bought it with real money, just think that all they did was some boring tedious RNG grind that took no skill.
I agree, people think gold buying is cheap. It takes $$$$. For pixels? Not gonna do that.
A few days ago I was on our server’s mumble doing WvW. Some guy on mumble saw my character and instantly remarked that I was some chinese botter/gold buyer.
I can only imagine his reaction when I replied to him that I wasn’t.
I have know it’s not cheap, but I also know there are many players who do it and think nothing about the cost. The gold sellers are selling legendaries directly now, you don’t even have to buy the gold first. There are thousands of players who pay well over $200 each month on a facebook web based game. If your willing to spend that kind of money on something like that…..
I know for a fact there are people doing this kind of thing, and some of it really gets me upset. I spent nearly 7 years in GW1 maxing out all the titles, filling my HOM, etc, then I see some clown who never played GW1 a single day, purchase an account for $1200.00, link it to his GW2 account and start showing off his HOM rewards.
I am sure the players who legitimitly got thier legendaries feel the same way, and I do feel for them.
You shouldn’t get upset about it. Those people decided to do it, and they have every right to. What they do is not a concern for you, nor will they feel bad about it.
Just focus on your accomplishments and if you get the legendary the legit way, then you’ll feel accomplished. Doesn’t matter what other people think of you.
I myself am disappointed that I’m lumped in with gold buyers, but in the end I don’t care what people think because I know I didn’t do anything bad.
I know I know a few billion of these but before you rage at me please hear me out here guys
First the components of a legendary:
The 3 gifts are NOT a problem so don’t complain about those they do take awhile but they are obtainable alright so people that are complaining about those shut upThe precourser:
This is a problemYes alot of people have legendary weapons, No I don’t want everyone to have a legendary so early, BUT my guess is most people I see around that have legendaries got their precoursers early on when the game was just starting and back when it was obtainable
The precourser NEEDS fixing because no matter how good you are at gold farming you won’t be able to keep up with rising price, and Im glad that ANET is working to make it easier to get precoursers
Feel free to agree or disagree with me on this one guys just go for general discussion
also if this thread needs moving move it wherever
thanks guys
I grinded out the 420g that it cost for me to buy my Dawn. Why can’t you?
I did it hardcore over a week and a half. If you don’t want to grind you can get it in a month.
#1
That is why you see changes in the status during prime time and off peak
Man, I hope so… I transferred out of a “full” server Saturday, a week ago, to finish my map completion (<1% left, all in WvW) and now can’t get home!!! They announced guesting on the following Monday or Tuesday (which meant, the server cap raise didn’t help me as I had several days left on the timer). It’s wigging me out a bit, as all my guildmates (and guild unlocks) are on my home server.
Before you go to school/work in the morning, transfer.
This will only last a few weeks. It’ll take awhile for servers to match up with their respective tiers.
It’s tough, but nothing you can do about it. Just wait it out.
3.Andarzbad
remove him from the list. I’ve farmed him a lot on my server and he doesn’t drop anything good. also, no chest from him.
I find it hilarious that we always get these kinds of posts after someone gets 0 ectos after a few salvages.
No, there was no stealth nerf. Some days you win, some days you lose.
As much as you want to repeat it, it won’t make it sound any different.
You introduce something that requires skill, it’ll eventually be accomplished. And quickly. So instead of a six month game, you have a two-week game. MMO directors always say they hate grind and that game X isn’t grindy (and Colin said they didn’t want GW2 to be grindy). But honestly it is. But I don’t care. That’s the genre. It’s like asking RTS games to not be so complicated. Well, that’s the genre!
Your statement is as riduclous as those folk who think the only reason why they introduce a feature is to drive gem sales. This game isn’t stale, there’s a lot to do in this game if you choose to do it. Maybe the reason why you think the legendary process is too stale is because you’re too focused on it when there are other things to do.You’re giving up on the game. MMOs don’t need to be grindy. People just think that’s the case. They really don’t have to, it’s just designers are afraid to do it because MMOs are so expensive to make. YOU are backing that fear up.
No genre should be defined by grinding. That’s not a game. That’s a part time job.
They’re not afraid to do it If they could, they would. How exactly do you program a game that shouldn’t be grindy and want it to last several months? It takes a long time to program that with so few # of programmers. And that’s all within a certain timeframe and budget.
Why should Arenanet risk doing something complicated out of the ordinary? It’s a better business decision to play it safe – build your game on the basics of MMO and expand from there rather than rewriting the whole book.
If the #’s are to be believed, and they should, Guild Wars 2 is a massive success doing what they did. I see no reason to scrap the core that makes this game. Instead, build upon it.
Being still new to the game, but having the urge to make suggestions anyhow, as far as Legendaries go..Grinded out, Bought from the TP however they are obtained I feel 100% World Completion should be a pre-requeset to being able to even Equip a Legendary.
At least then when you see a Legendary you will think, well at least they finished an achievement to be able to show it off.Edit: For those who want a Legendary on their alts, maybe make it so that 1 character’s 100% World Achievement unlocks the right to carry a Legendary on any toons on that account?
Map completion already is a requirement. It gives you two tokens to make two legendaries.
I’m in the process of doing world completion again so that I can make my 3rd one. It’s tough.
Map completion to craft or as a pre-req to Carry the item? Sounds like people can just buy these things off the TP. Completion Requirement just to be able to Carry one would set the carrier apart from someone who purchased one without doing anything but buying gold…
You can buy the legendary straight off the TP but let’s be honest, not many people do that. Maybe the 1% of the game’s population. It’s just too cost prohibit.
All legendaries are bought in some way. I’ve bough the T6 mats and lodestones, for example. I grinded out the globs. But where did all that gold come from? Hard work grinding shelt/pen and playing the outpost as well as key investments.
I too disagree that you can buy legendaries off the outpost, but whatever. I don’t care enough about it to be incensed.
This is the case in all games with forums.
You’ll find those who are disastisfied with the game are not playing it and are voicing their complaints.
Those who enjoy the game are playing it and can’t be bothered with the forum unless they’re at work or taking a break.
It’s funny how people always find the little things to complain about and make a big deal about it. Over on the crafting forum we have some guy making a big deal over gathering of all things!
I suggest you join the subreddit for GW2. There is still whining, such a lot of exploit defenders, but it’s probably the ‘safest’ medium out there. If you don’t like it, best just stay away and play the game.

“Translation: We need boring bullkitten that wastes peoples time so they don’t notice the game is stale.”
Please don’t use ridiculous statements, it just ruins your credibility.
Every game needs time sinks. Otherwise, what’s the point of playing? Why dont’ we just hand you everything and you win the game the moment you install it?
No, games doesn’t need time sinks. They need challenges, not time sinks. If something is a grind, it should NOT be in the game. Grinding isn’t fun. It’s the definition of work. Things get worse the more you do it. It’s a fact. Sure, great things last a bit longer, but nothing is fun forever. To trick people into doing it by holding shinies over their head is just disrespectful.
There is nothing wrong with my statement there and it’s exactly what is happening. The way they should do it (and I see in some situations that they legitimately tried) is to have the overall experience be different each time you do it. However, the difference is so small that it’s not even worth mentioning.
As much as you want to repeat it, it won’t make it sound any different.

Honestly guys I can kinda see the point that not everyone should have a legendary but come on just because YOU have enough time to get the precoursers with no problem doesn’t mean everyone does
second: this idea that MMO’S NEED grind is ridiculous
I don’t mind some grind and honestly the 3 gifts are NOT a problem however the PRECOURSER is a problem since its way to expensive at the moment and it would take months to earn enough gold just to catch up with the rising price thats why nerfing precourser price is GOODthrid: just because YOU have a legendary doesn’t mean its too easy to obtain one not everyone has enough time and patience to have a second job that you pay for (no offense intended)
for your 2nd point:
MMO is grindy by nature – if you don’t like grind you’re in the wrong game. RTS and PFs are non-grindy games.
I think it should take you at least a month, maybe no more than 3 months, to get your legendary. The precursor prices right now fit that time frame. Disappointed to see it being controlled, but it was expected.
Are you listening to yourself? Why on Earth would anyone want to waste so much time to get a Legendary in the current state? Just make the game more challenging! Put hard mode in for all of the dungeons. Time attack for Jumping Puzzles.
That is why we need clovers, the mystic toilet and high costs for precursors.
Translation: We need boring bullkitten that wastes peoples time so they don’t notice the game is stale.
That’s just plain evil. This game is meant to be fun, not a second job that you pay others to do.
As for inflation, my first reaction is “Who give a kitten?” but in reality, there are other amazing weapons that are dropped. Super Hyperbeam Alpha is just plain awesome, and it’s a dropped weapon. Those would do it. Also, materials for crafting, Superior runes, special services, mini pets and siege for WvW. Oh also bags. There’s also some armor in the game that is like 70g (Assassin’s Armor for humans).
Legendaries are FAR from the only expensive thing in the game and FAR from the only cool thing.
Because it’s a rare item that is hard to get and not many people have it? It also comes with the status that you worked hard for your gold or were smart enough to play the TP right.
I know legendaries are sellable on the TP, and people like to frame legendary-hodlers as gold buyers, but not everyone has the gold to buy it. There is a reason why Eternity is 5000g and hasn’t sold for weeks. Yes, you can buy gold with gems, but that’s going to cost thousands.
“As for inflation, my first reaction is “Who give a kitten?”
Inflation is a serious problem not only in a game world economy but in the real world. It’s important to control it.
Legendaries are the best gold sinks the game has to offer. Some of the most valued legendaries cost 1400g. 70g is nothing. A hardcore player can grind that out in a day and a half. And once you get that supposed 70g armor, what are you going to do? Nothing. You’re set. All the other points you mentioned are not significant sinks.
If you can’t even come up to kill 50 players (which shouldn’t take more than 2 hours if you’re bad) then there is something wrong.
You have an entire month to do this
so is this content going to reopen or should I delete my commendations?
She is coming back without BL keys.
Also, why is three weeks of challenges not a long enough period of time?
Because that means everyone would be getting legendaries within their first month of the game. There is only one legendary per weapon type (Except for GS), and so you have everyone wearing one. Then all the complaints on the forum would be “There is no character variety!” “Introduce more skins pls”
Another thing to keep in mind is that this game needs gold sinks, otherwise inflation would hit the game HARD. That is why we need clovers, the mystic toilet and high costs for precursors. If you hand people legendaries right away, what exactly is out there to act as a significant gold sink? WP costs? Repairs? Those are trivial.
Tedious grind does not equal challenge. Current system is extremely easy because it is a tedious RNG grind. The OP idea actually has challenge to it, a lot of that stuff is actually a challenge to complete.
The only reason why many people wouldn’t have a legendary with the current system is because it is nothing more then a boring tedious RNG grind. Do you really want something that is looked as as nothing but that? People don’t see a legendary and think “oh that person is good, they are skilled” no instead what they think is “oh, that person just did a boring tedious RNG grind, meh”
You should know it by now but all MMOs are about grind. There just isn’t enough manpower to program something that would take weeks to get yet not be considered ‘grindy’
OP’s suggestions are ‘challenging’ but easy enough to be done in a few weeks.
Arenanet can easily make getting a legendary a long process without it being a tedious RNG grind.
I just can’t see it happening. Grind and long process/quest are almost always mutually inclusive. I’d like to hear your suggestions, though.
So, you think it’s ok to make money with someone else’s products?
I know, right? I hate it when graphic designers abuse Adobe’s great tools and make money without paying Adobe. Oh wait…
I’m not sure if you ever experienced working in a corporate environment, but using illegally downloaded software is a big no-no and open to lawsuits.
You think NCSoft is dumb enough to let one of it’s child companies do that? No.
Think it’s more fun this way?
yes, your idea is much more fun to achieving a legendary, and is far more difficult then the the current system.
More difficult? Let’s be honest, it’s not.
For the current system, you have to wait for a precursor drop from something (which can take a month) or buy from the TP (will also take a month to get that amount of gold), and then spend months to get the materials necessary to upgrade it to Legendary. The way he mentioned can be done in less than 2 weeks easily.
Not only that, but the karma and the badges are tough. People keep saying that you can easily get badges from jumping puzzles, but you only have one safe place (your own borderlands) to farm them, and even then, on a lvl 80 character, you only get 3-8 badges (EB puzzle has more)
since its based on RNG, random number generation, each item of its own coding, i would say you can throw percentages and statistics out of the picture. It’s pure blind luck.
I’ve got two mates in the guild that has randomed precursors on their second attempt in the mystic toilet where i’ve dumped in about 300-350 thus far and nada.
There are people that has thrown in 1500-2000 rare gs in the toilet with no luck as well.
RNG is linked to percentages.
I don’t know how they code the MF rates, but in the end, with a large enough sample size, you get a % figure.
Too easy, unfortunately.
yet far more difficult then the current system.
I disagree
Points 1, 2, 5, 6 and 7 are easy.
Points 3 and 4 are doable but are the only significant timesinks. Heck, point 3 can still be achieved in a week.
That makes pursuing a legendary very easy and you’ll have everyone running around in one. That defeats the purpose.
You need gold and time sinks, which is what the current system has.
Now if the purpose of this suggestion was to add it on top of the current legendary process, then by all means, I agree with it.
But if this is all that it takes to get a legendary…
Too easy, unfortunately.
I think it says a lot about this game that completing pretty much everything that the game has to offer is “Too easy”.
Lets say they added a ton more achievements (Skill based though) and added time attack to the dungeons and the jumping puzzles. Think that would be hard enough?
For self disclosure, I have two legendaries already and I’m already working on my third.
I think Arenanet wants legendaries to be rare and not worn by everyone. I think that’s why it’s a good idea to have a huge gold/rng sink tied to them. Quite frankly I don’t know why they’re sellable on the TP and that is one thing I’m disappointed in. I can’t count the many times I get accused of gold buying because I carry around two of the most expensive legendaries around.
I find the current system to get a legendary to be adequate, but they should also include more skill-based requisites. But it needs to be designed so that it’s not easily completeable and that it cannot be ‘exploited’ by certain classes.
That’s why time achievements for puzzles just isn’t a good idea. Just get a mesmer and you can get a portal to the end. It is very, very difficult programming something that takes this into account, and it’s just not worth the time invested in.
But there are some good points above, such as Dungeon Master.
I think they need to emphasize a whole lot more about taking part in the entire game, so WvW has to be included.
TBH, 500 badges is nothing. They need to make a requirement of X # of kills or a higher badge amount, like 1500.
Or for you explorer people out there, how about getting 100% map exploration (not the same as map completion)
Too easy, unfortunately.
