Magic find works. http://sinasdf.imgur.com/
I don’t doubt the usefulness of the tool, indeed I’ve built something similar (though on a much smaller scale) for my own personal use, using Spidy’s API.
What I’m worried about is the legality of it, and whether ANet object to it. It’s an interesting and fine line to walk.
One thing I really would hate to see, is gw2spidy being punished in some way, simply because it’s providing the data via it’s API.
It’s already mentioned by Smith that gw2 is legit.
I’m sure the story would be different if gw2spidy started hosting advertising on it’s site.
And then this new site is going to charge a sub? That’s over the top.
I was actually thinking of creating something similar myself….
And yes….it is worth it.
While Spidy is a great tool, it only gives basic information. I use Spidy to fill pricing data into my spreadsheet, but it’s my research into certain items and markets….along with algorithms that truly let me take advantage of the Trading Post. Also, Spidy only gives you information 1 item at a time. What if the application you used scoured the whole of the Trading Post and cross-referenced different markets to tell you the optimal path to maximize your investment? Let’s say you can make a 30% profit buy just working in one market, but if you took that (those) items, turned them into something else, then used those items to craft something, then used THOSE items in the Mystic Forge to make a 500% profit….wouldn’t that be more efficient?
Once those relationships are made, the data is collected and the analysis is run….that is a VERY probably outcome.
OK, I admit I have absolutely zero clue on how API’s work and all that computer jumble, but wouldn’t these sites have a hard time updating in real-time?
If gold is not an issue…
Craft your way up to 80, and then go get all the skillpoints in the zones that are relatively easy. You’ll have 200 in no time.
That’s actually pretty smart to charge for a service like that.
But I think they would probably be hunted by Arenanet’s lawyers since they are trying to profit off of it.
I must wonder what they could offer that gw2spidy doesn’t, and if it’s worth the extra money. Probably not.
Legendaries are skins, not stats.
Legendaries have their own stats, they aren’t just the skin.
The stats on the legendaries are EQUAL to exotics. You want their stats you can find an exotic with the exact same stats in either the trading post, karma shop, loot drop or by crafting it.
Pay closer attention to the stats, not the rarity.
If you don’t like the combination of the stats on the legendary you can transmutate it with an exotic with the stats you want. That’s what i’m implying, i should be able to transmute it to whatever combination of stats i want. However, with the current system, if i transmute, i will lose the “legendary” rarity and thus when ascended weapons come out, i won’t be getting the free upgrade.
They said there would be a fix for that.
OK, I’ve been doing some brief thinking.
I’m not entirely sure if there was a bot wave, because if there was, we’d also see Armored Scales rise in price. Armored Scales were farmed hardcore by bots (several price points have well over +2000 items listed) so it’s untouched.
I’m 90% sure this is market manipulation. I was actually considering awhile back to buy out the venom sacs since the supply was so little, but it’s also very expensive to buy out
If someone out there had enough money, they could control all T6 markets except Scales. Scales are just so numerous that it would be very very difficult to buy out.
Another theory though – scales largely come from water-based creatures. So perhaps there was a bot wave, but Arenanet has had fewer reports from players on water-based bots (since not many people go there to begin with)
As title says, do perma banned accounts have all their active listing on the outpost automatically removed from the economy? Or do they stay there?
GOD DARNIT
Fangs shot up a ton. I was gonna invest in those -_-
What exactly were you expecting? The BIS gear for a warrior at a cool 1g for everything? So that you could move on to the next class?
Work hard for your items, dude.
Actually, looks like market manipulation. Other t6’s don’t have the same sudden rise in price.
Market manipulation and/or banned bots (assuming banned accounts have their postings removed from outpost)
FYI, the trading post is shared across all servers, NA and EU.
Unlike all the debbie downers here, I’m very happy for this update. Kudos to Arenanet. I’m looking forward to the other improvements on the 28th.
Since just selling the ingredients/matts is more often the best profit, why won’t crafters just raise the price of their completed item? Why are crafted items listed on the TP for less than the components are worth?
If crafters would raise their prices on completed items, then it would be worth more then its ingredients. Is it because there are so many “master crafted” and like items that are world drops, not player made, and auto-priced?
because some people are dumb.
It’s the same reason why people post items on the outpost that would give less money than selling it to a vendor would.
Actually, they didn’t promise that you would be able to cross-realm. They said that there would be restrictions.

But fine, feel free to make stuff up
5. RMT: I’ve made my feelings about RMT pretty clear before. One day I hope I’ll be able to release numbers on how much money is wasted and how many people’s lives are damaged by RMT to give people some perspective on who they’re supporting.
How about botting? Or will you lump that in with the RMT classification.
I think of RMT as having real damage to the real economy (specifically the financials of Arenanet as well as victims of credit card fraud)
While botting has a real significant damage to the virtual economy.
Botting inflicts real damage to the real economy as well.
Well yeah I guess you can make the indirect relationship
Botting → funds gold selling → fewer $ for Arenanet.
This will do nothing but good for WvW players.
It’ll take time for rankings to adjust though. Probably a month.
Question:
If I were to transfer from, say, Maguuma to Tarnished Coast on the 25th, but soon regret it and want to go to Dragonbrand, won’t I be stuck on Tarnished coast since the 7 day limit would close after the 28th?
Or will you implement a one-day limit on the 27th-28th?

Did you read what i posted? I spend 200g on the MF total playing the tp and selling the exotics to fund more. Dusk is 600g on the TP, if it was 200g of course i would have bought it, but its three times more than i can afford and would involve me playing the TP for another month which is more grinding in the TP window when i should be playing the game. Love how everyone says just buy it, thats the reason people are posting complaints, buying dusk is not an option unless you are extremely rich in game, the fact you think thats a viable option shows how little you know about the issue. Read the 1300 comment post on precursers at the top of this forum. There are hundreds of players that cant obtain a precurser since its a lottery or extremely rich purchase. Gee why dont i go buy a 50 ft yacht, oh yeah im not rich yet, let me go buy a lottery ticket. Thats the complaint either you’re rich or lucky. Obtaining a legendary should be based on skill and hours in game. Every other item even clovers are hours and skill. Get karma and ecto and forge and save up clovers. But there are no alternatives to precursers its lottery or be rich and neither are a viable option for 98% of the player base.
Actually I know since I already have my legendaries and I made one precursor purchase through hard work.
The fact that you want the legendary in just a month just shows you have the wrong thinking. This isn’t a short-term acquisition unless you work hard for it to be.
You can get 400-500g from hardcore farming in a week and a half. I know because I did it to purchase Dawn. You don’t want to hardcore farm? Fine, do some casual farming and you can get it in a month or two
Yes I’d love legendaries to be based on skill but that’s easily exploitable by certain classes or hacks. Yes, I’d love legendaries to be based on time, which is properly reflected in being able to do stuff in game like farm/play TP.
My post was mainly my experience in pursuing twilight and my opinion of how the three gifts are obtainablr by dedicated players and can even feel rewarding but become completely dissappointing when players realize that the final piece for the legendary is a lottery ticket. I played more than just grinding for the legendary. I am lvl 20 in fractals and have enjoyed WvW alot and world completion was great seeing everything in the game. I have over 700 hrs in game alread and want to roll and alt too when i have time. But afyer spending 3 months casually persuing an item i really wantex just to be told i wasnt lucky enough to get the random drop and need to spend more and more gold for more lottery tickets in the hopes of getti g lucky because any solution from anet keeps getting pushed off makes me bitter yes. I still want to play fractals and grt he back piece, play WvW and get more badges and get the soldier accessories so i can compete as a stronger guardian. I finished my karma gear so i have the armor look i wanted. My point is ive played alot and obtained everything i sought out to through skill and hours in gamr. But no matter how much more i play or better i get in WvW i will never obtain a precurser currently without hitti g the lottery and that is not a legendary feeling. The fact they are even sellable chapens the legendary feel as well. Its not an item of skill and dedication its an item of look how lucky/rich i am. I want it for the pure cosmetic feel of playing the game. I will still login every once in a while and throw in a few exotics in the hope of getting lucky, but yes three months of grinding and completing alot of the game has made me feel exhausted and in the need of a break. I toom breaks in gw1 all the time and still pursued items like obsidian armor and such over a long period, but even that showed progression. This isn progression anymore once you obtain 3 gifts like alot of players have done. It is purely a lottery.
P.s. sorry for typos on my phone.
Then don’t play the lottery. It’s all your fault that you decided to play the mystic forge when you had the option of buying it off the trading post.
Maybe if you used that argument on clovers, I’d understand.
Pretty much you’re not supposed to make money off GW2 videos.
I can’t answer questions about my specific feelings about individual item prices here.
How about the economy in general?
I’m a scientist. I deal with lots of data – I make a lot graphs or other representations to gain insight – most of which will never be published, and in general, are too crude or otherwise misleading to all but a few colleagues. So, I can understand your general reluctance. But it’d almost be better for you not to be posting than to leave such cryptic and otherwise unuseful posts.
I assume you’ve been doing some of what I describe I do. You must have some ideas about how the economy is going. Can’t you even say, give a list of your top concerns about what needs addressing? It doesn’t have to be super specific, but at least not super generalized (I am concerned with certain unnamed items prices values).
He has to speak in generalizations. If he were to say, “I’m concerned about the price of Silver Doubloons”, then he would be impacting the market for that commodity.
a few points
-eternity is not another tier above sunrise/twilight. They’re all technically legendaries.
-even if you soulbind a legendary, you can still put it in the forge to combine if they were to release new recipes
Go post in support, you’ll get more help there.
Chef is the easiest and cheapest to max. If you want to take the long route, gather mats yourself. Or save weeks and just buy the mats on the outpost.
Crafting is essential if you wish to gamble at the mystic toilet and hope for a precursor.
are you sure its bots fault if T6 got cheaper?
I used to buy lot of T6, since i play fractals expecially since last patch i never buy any…..
Underwater gives armored scale
Categorized gives blood
Dredge gives many differentetc etc etc.
Fractals alone isn’t enough to drop some prices almost as much as 15S.
Personally, I don’t think they have been banned yet. The reason for the slow increase of the prices is mostly due to more people going for their Legendary weapon. Just in my guild (around 50 players) 5 are working on legendary while last month, only 1 was. This causes prices of Globs/T6 mats to go up. If the botters were banned, the prices would increase even more, as happened last time.
In a way, I hope they get banned cause they destroy the game, however, the economy is now fairly balanced, so a massive ban-run will destroy the balance.
Banning them overall makes no difference.
Yes, the prices will shoot up but it also increases the wealth of those who choose to sell T6.
So while a person pursuing their legendary would get shafted, the person farming mats and selling them gets more money. In the end, it balances.
Armored scales are going to go way up, as are bloods and totems.
BTW guys, you can also get precursors from small chests.
My chest runs consist of the SE puzzle in Southsun, and the east puzzle in LA. Both are very easy.
I’m by no means a power trader, but more of an investor:
I’m not a fan of trading low value-high trade items.
Yes you can make money off of it, but the returns are so low that you’re better off grinding. Time is money, and if you’re not earning a good profit rate per hour, it’s still not a good investment.
What you should be investing in is T6 mats. Not only are they high trade, but they are high value. The lowest T6 mat has a value of about 4-5S, while the highest is 15-18S. Often there are big enough fluctuations between morning and evening that you can make good profitable trades.
But on to your questions:
-Prices keep fluctuating, so sell when you are comfortable enough with the margin you see fit. It may take an hour or it may take 2 days.
-Diversification is always good. But it’s hard to find a high risk, high reward investment here. There are no items that I can see that fit that profile. It’s more like high risk, low reward.
-5-10% return is relative – depends on the value of the item. If you’re earning 10% return on a 1s item, that’s not exactly good. If you’re earning 10% on a 10s item, that’s good.
-If you’re going to buy named exotics, only buy those that have a decent skin and stats. That being said, I would never try to corner the market for named exotics. I often find the demand to be low-moderate and the prospect of being undercut huge.
clovers aren’t even the big issue with the legendary, they’re the easy part.
As someone who adored that instance of the economy being rebalanced, (I could finally sell Iron Ore to other players w/o losing money!) I keep hoping you guys will do stuff like that again. It’s a personal thing, but I hate selling crafting supplies to vendors because I’d be selling at a loss on the TP, when I know that people could be using the mats that I’m essentially destroying. Are there any plans to do more limited-time mystic forge recipes like that again, or was that a one-off experiment?
Never say never
You’re going to hike prices in common mats! :/
BUY BUY BUY BUY
It’ll be interesting how you will do this, considering that there are some people who exploited a method to gain insane amount of achievement points at the cost of nothing (only time spent repeating same actions, not referring to the salvaging achievement).
Hope those people won’t gain immense amount of crowns due to said exploit.
1.) It’s not an exploit
2.) At the cost of nothing? It cost a ton of money to get those stacks of salvagable items. To get one point achievement you need 200. That costs a lot if you want 20,000 points.
So for 5 days of dailies I can buy… 10 unidentified, likely-to-be-garbage, dyes? This is in comparison to saving up for a couple months and getting a sweet prestigious minipet, or two weeks for some “Mystic Binding Agent” items, which will undoubtedly be linked somehow to ascended gear. A more comparable number of dyes for that level of effort would be 20. I find more than 10 Unidentified Dyes in a week just running around with no MF gear for but a few hours a day.
They’re still working out the conversion rates.
However, there are some achievements which are infinitely repeatable currently. It is highly likely so this new system isn’t broken we’ll need to cap those and people who have made insane progress down one of those lines will lose some of their progress to get back to the cap. I wouldn’t recommend anyone go bonkers trying to progress an infinitely repeatable achievement category in anticipation of the release of this system, as you will likely lose some points/progress if you take it to an extreme number.
If that happens at any time of updates, I am instantly quitting gw2. You should make count only done achievements and omit repeatable achievements. Stop taking achieved things from people who spent significant time doing them.
If you’re going to quit the game over a measley achievement system, then perhaps you shouldn’t be playing the game to begin with
Well who are you to tell me what to play this game for? Its obvious different people play for different reasons. I like making achievement points so this thing is important for me.
I think Exiled is right here, people spending so much time on achievement points and then being stripped of them is wrong, there are some players in my guild that didnt miss one daily, and were/are achievement hunters, at least they should be rewarded accordingly.
He wasn’t talking about the regular achievements, but those that are infinitely repeatable, such as agent of antropy.
The one guy here who had 20K achievement points spent well over 1000g in salvaging costs, so even if they were to erase those points, it would only affect those very few people who had the gold to do it.

Now that you’re on your lunchbreak, question!
Is there anything surprising (economically) that has caught you off guard in regards to the game? Perhaps price manipulation?
When I released the blog post about pulling some of the surplus items like butter and soft wood logs out of the market with the Mystic Chest. How fast that took effect and burned those items really surprised me. 7 Million Items in 2 hours, never seen anything like it. It was really cool.
That’s funny you mention that – I always point to that temporary recipe as a reason to hoard lots of ‘rare’ quality items that seemingly have little use and have huge supply – something like Piles of Putrid Essence. I keep speculating that you guys will release a recipe in the near future once again to adjust supply for select items.
Of course, I don’t expect you to comment on the chances of that happening again, but in the meantime I’m hoarding 40g worth of piles. It’s quite possibly the safest investment in the game right now since the selling price is near vendor price.
I highly doubt they’d reset achievement points. The rage that would ensue woudl be more than the ascended updates in November.
More than likely they’ll pull the data of how many achievement points one has per account, and then mail you tokens (if it’s an item)
Just tossing my 2c on why Smith is griefing us all and denying us data.
He has very explicitly avoided the question on purpose, and has made a point of it. It is clear he is trying to convey that he can not, or does not want to, disclose any information. But, I am sure he is physically able to disclose some information – heck, I’m pretty sure he has like 10 charts of wealth distribution glued on all sides of his screen at work. So he does not want to, or someone forbids him to.
I can very well see the reason: for one person on the forums that can actually gain insight from the charts and be reasonable, there are twenty hate monkeys who will jump on the newly acquired data to “prove” that Anet fails @economy, is an evil corporation trying to pass subliminal messages about buying gems, is behind Guantanamo Bay and the Cold War, etc. Sometimes it’s better to leave those people without tools – I certainly would handle stuff this way if I were at Anet. I think John Smith is trying to tell us this with his behavior.
Presenting data for release is a more serious undertaking than you realize. Think of how many languages it has to be presented in, and the graphics have to be universally understandable, and for my purposes that means custom design, timing, approval. I’ve said I haven’t had time to prepare the information for a blog, though I would like to.
Seriously, enough with the conspiracies, I’m not saying anything, except exactly what I’m saying.
Now that you’re on your lunchbreak, question!
Is there anything surprising (economically) that has caught you off guard in regards to the game? Perhaps price manipulation?
If you wanted to get Venom as a precursor, you wouldn’t put tridents in the forge, would you? Exactly.
If you want to use the MF cheaply and efficiently, you craft all your rares, and only craft greatswords since one of the precursors from that has the highest value.
.
Get rid of them. Your opportunity to use them is over.
It’s your fault for not putting down a wall and letting that mesmer in.
Wait for the detailed blog post/update.
“Firstly, we’ll be adding paid server transfers, with time limitations and WvW restrictions, and guestingability, which allows players to visit friends on other servers in every part of the game except for WvW. To encourage players to stick with a single server for WvW and fight for the pride of that server, server changes will incur a fee and have time limitations. Second, we’ll make improvements to culling.”
This, I do not like. Everyone who is on a horrible server will be much worse of if you clamp down on server transfers. I expect to see lots and lots of people fleeing these servers now “before it is too late” and the transfers both become paid for and incur some sort of penalty to boot!
Jump ship while you can!
Even crushing is the fact that I don’t find anything in that blog post discussing server imbalance. I expect servers like Fissure of Woe will be empty very soon if you go through with this.
Then those horrible servers will be lumped with other horrible servers. Easy.
If only we could short sell..
http://www.mmorpg.com/newsroom.cfm/read/26541/Guild-Wars-2-Colin-Johanson-Talks-2013.html
Interestingly enough, it links to a blog post that is not yet up
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/colin-johanson-on-guild-wars-2-in-the-months-ahead/
What happened yesterday? Did we find some unknown recipe requiring shells? Did someone buy up all the supply? Prices shot up while supply took a dive. Whatever happened, it appears to be back to normal today.
I was hoping Anet banned the bots, but I guess that was a bit too optimistic.
Why is it too optimistic? Maybe you weren’t here during the mass banning wave in November.
You guys know it’s more efficient to farm shelt/pen and buy onyx cores, right?
I have nearly 1200 hours and have two legendaries. And no, before you accuse, I don’t bot, nor do I play the TP. If anything, I grind, and also make investments (that’s different than playing the TP). My second one was lucky since I picked up Dusk and was able to sell it.
I’m guessing you are extremely inefficient at using your time to make money.
Just look at the map overviews, it should show you which zones you are lacking.
