You will only find nightcap and zerging QQ in the lower tiers. Higher tiers understand that WvW wins are determined by population and coverage, so saying a server only wins by nightcapping is like saying a server only wins because they are better.

I wouldn’t call tier 4 a “lower tier”, except in the sense that it is a tier lower than tier 3

Maybe not, but when we were in tier 4, all we heard were those excuses from the other servers. Not much you can do about it, except apologize for having more people that play WvW than they do.

Lol, not sure what you’re talking about. I run a meditations guard with sword/focus and greatsword swap. With a 600 range sword port, 1200 range judge’s intervention port and a 600 range gs leap, I’m on ranged classes like stink on a monkey.

Only a WvW player would consider Glicko 2 rating points to be more valuable than ectos, lodestones, gold, gems, dungeon tokens, karma, achievement points, or fractal tokens.

This post is awesome, it has secured our place as the official Tier 4 troll server. Poor kittens.

Most wonderful about the guardian is its ability to troll entire enemy zergs in WvW. If you’re ever defending one of the towers in WvW with a staircase going to the lord, simply stand at the top and drop a sanctuary (specced for 12 second duration), followed by line of warding, followed by ring of warding and lol as 40-50 people keep running and getting knocked down by your artificial walls for 22 seconds straight. Might even delay them enough for your siege to kill the entire zerg, then it’s really funny.

I started on CD at release. I’ve loved my time here and the two guilds I’ve been in. I’m an officer in [RISE] now and I plan to stay here as long as I play GW2.

I started doing wvw about two months ago, and have seen improvements week after week – especially in group dynamics, special tactics, and communications/tactics between guilds.

That last couple weeks have been a breeze. I’m glad for the competative week with FA and DB! This is posing a challenge to all three servers, and all three will learn so much from it.

While I love the community of CD, I can’t speak for the other servers. I have a feeling all three will be competative for a long time to come though. From what I’ve heard, I also get the feeling you’ll be in good hands on any of the three servers you listed.

I think they already decided against CD, the OP has another thread going asking whether FA or Mag will be in Tier 2, so I would assume they are going for one of those two.

CD posters are just smarter on average than those of other servers, and nobody likes people that are smarter than them. But yeah, in game the CD WvW community all seem like really nice people who just like to have fun owning noobs. At game release I remember there being some drama in WvW (in particular a lot of QQ about how many of us would camp the EBJP), but I think all those people transferred off because I haven’t seem any drama in WvW for a good two months.

Agree. Anet should revisit this thief mechanic as there is no counter for this skill (throwing random AOE or attack randomly is not counter; this is not happen in other MMORPG). It can be done by nerfing, making revealed debuff longer (if the thief attacked before stealth), or make an item (consumable (sensor or flare)) to give revealed debuff to the thief and make some NPC (supervisor, keep lord, upgraded scout guard, tower lord, SM lord) can detect stealthy (but not giving revealed debuff to thief).

Not to mention that Anet thinks AOE is too strong and that single target damage classes need a buff.

You need gold for PvE. I don’t do PvE, therefore I couldn’t care less about getting money from PvP.

But, if it can be helpful to lure new players in, then I’m all for it. :\ Some form of tangible reward for the PvErs out there, would be cool I guess.

A lot of players, including myself, who play PvP also like to play WvW as it’s basically a large scale PvP map. Unfortunately, WvW shares gear with PvE so you do need gold and such to make sure you don’t get stomped by people with much better gear than you. So I think it would be nice if there was a way to earn gold in sPvP.

I welcome smug comments from Maguuma because their posting is pretty good. We’re both comprised of a number of forum communities, and I’m pretty sure that the entire rivalry with Maguuma that previously existed was based on that, at least as far as FA goes; we pretty much know what they’re on about.

Someone asked why all the bad blood, so, a brief history of the grudge tier

The bad blood with CD goes back to a dolyak parade. Yes, really. Some individuals decided to have a roleplaying event wherein they designated a dolyak as nearing retirement. During the parade, they (as well as the dolyak) were randomly killed by some FA players. In retaliation, Tarnished Coast and Crystal Desert spent the rest of the reset openly double teaming FA.

TC and CD were less persistent in their double teaming in the subsequent reset for reasons that are mostly lost to history, but probably revolve around the fact that it was hard to capitalize on dolyak rage indefinitely. A reset or so later, TC had switched tiers with IOJ after an unfortunate decline by IOJ. CD became top of the tier following TC’s exit, and for whatever reason this made some individuals from their server compose posts that others disliked. (Or perhaps the posts were more noticable. It’s tough to say.)

Of course, FA and IOJ were also guilty of this, but due to the sheer frequency of posts coming from CD, (mostly from one person, mind you) they appeared to the other two servers as the primary instigator.

Those posts either accused CD of zerging, gloated about taking SMC or some random camp in EB, and honestly some posts were just weird and I don’t really know how to classify them.

Shortly thereafter, Arenanet announced the end of free transfers. After several of IOJ’s core guilds decided to move servers, a number of other IOJ guilds decided it was a good time to switch to a server where their coverage felt like it was making a difference. The obvious choice (although, as they note, others were considered) was one of the two servers where they knew that their time zone would make an enormous difference, i.e., the ones they were up against.

Each IOJ guild transfer had it’s own reasons and motivations, (and in fact not all of them transferred to FA) but it would be disingenuous to claim that the history and facts noted above had no impact on their decisions. In the immediate aftermath of the transfers, roughly five days ago I guess, a perception apparently formed among Crystal Desert denizens that it was in fact a slight on them.

Perhaps it was, perhaps it wasn’t; I don’t think it had any impact one way or the other on feelings between FA and CD. Many players want to feel the grudge, so they’ll find something. Ultimately, the original cause all tl;dr’s down to “some guys killed a dolyak and now we are at war forever.”

The dolyak thing was actually just an excuse by TC. After the “dolyak that was heard around the world” TC went and capped the entire FABL and said it was because of the dolyak. But after, they then went and capped the entire CDBL, so it was mostly just that they outnumbered us both greatly and capping is what you do in WvW. The same series of events would have occurred regardless of the yak being killed.

Just out of curiousity and being new to the tier, why the bad blood between CD and FA/IoJ?

I encountered a few FA hackers last night who flipped a tower, tried to flip a keep and another tower. And that left a certain bad taste in my mind. But 99% of FA seem like honorable opponents, and I haven’t seen anything particularly bad from CD yet.

Most of the bad blood on the CD side is probably because of the recent FA/IOJ merger.

Imagine you get to a new tier, fight with the same opponents for a month, and when you are really starting to dominate, and will soon move up, your two opponents merge onto one server, and then another server come into the mix. It’s slightly annoying.

Edit: lol at all the FOJs doomsaying trying to call a CD collapse. Sorry, we’re a tight-knit server.

Imagine if FA had half it’s wvw pop and DB had about 2/3 of it’s current pop while CD had more than it does currently. CD had the pop to outzerg both FA and IoJ at the same time. All the while their forum warriors/trolls credited their winning fights by vastly outnumbering people to skill. CD as a top dog of a tier was insufferable to it’s opponents. There is a reason why the majority of the IoJ wvw pop that left went to FA. Not a single guild from IoJ that I know of went to CD. CD to tier 3 is kind of comparable to bullies and rich kids portrayed as main antagonists in 80s movies. Everybody hates them and it’s a real treat at the end to watch them go down in flames.

I don’t know where you got the idea that we’re cooperating to beat DB because we’re not. It may seem that way since you’re in T3 now and theres a lot more players around. Much of the FA wvw pop now is from IoJ like myself. We moved to FA in order to kill CD. I for one will when possible ignore DB players and attack CD ones. Theres been plenty of times i’ve jumped in on a db/cd fight, killed the CD and left. There is no way players would agree to not attack CD because they are the ones we want to see dead the most.

Maybe if the class wasn’t designed so that you buttom smash 6 keys without consequence or consideration to beat other players, macros wouldn’t show up as much. Right now the decision process of a BS thief goes like this:

1. Find target and buttom smash BS combo.
2a. If you kill target you win, no further action needed.
2b. If you don’t kill target, stealth and run away and wait for CDs to recharge.
—> Go back to step 1.

This will get you top score on your team with 350-400 rank points in most of the matches you enter. No other class/build involves decision making that is this simple.

Stab stomps, ele’s, guardians, necromancers, warriors
invun stomps, mesmers, guardian, ele
quick stomps, thief, mesmer, ranger, warrior, engineer

So you need to plan your 3v1 a bit better.

Or you can play a game with healers and never ‘down’ anyone to half health with the healer around.

I use block stomps on my guardian. You can pop the aegis virtue while you’re stomping right before they interrupt since it’s an instant. If you use a focus (which I do) you can also pop focus 5 for a 3x block which is also an instant. I run a meditations focused guardian so stability is hard to come by.

Why do we despise Maguuma? I always thought they were funny, they camp the JP as much as we do and make Cartman-esque recruitment threads for their server. If Anet decided to delete the CD server, I would probably transfer there.

I had a good fight with an ele once. I down the ele, was finishing it off when I got killed by a deer. This caused the ele to rally and finish me. I have no problem with reviving. It’s an extra bar of hp the player gets and they can be healed by other players in that state. Might be a pain if the person reviving is a warrior with stability but you can burn the warrior down while he’s occupied. The revived person will have little health as will the warrior. They both have to use their heal. Of course there are people with you because you’re expectations aren’t such that you can take X and a warrior on at the same time. If one of the two of you get downed you can do the same.

Players don’t rally from putting another player in downed state, they would rally if the deer somehow died and they had done damage to the deer prior to it dying. This happened to me when I fought 2 engineers on my guardian. I downed and killed the first one, and the second one and I were pretty close in health but I managed to barely down him. However, a drake was attacking me and got in the crossfire of my weapon which killed it causing the engineer to rally with half a bar of health while I was nearly dead, and the engineer killed me. It’s pretty stupid in my opinion, but there are so many builds in this game that can insta-gib you I guess it helps a little against those, unless of course it’s a thief because they will just stealth stomp you and be done with it.

Haha, yeah it’s pretty amazing that every single thread that mentions CD is trashed by other servers. Also, we didn’t get one single vote in that most admired server thread a few weeks back, although there was a few people saying any server except CD. Maybe a lot of people were owned by their doppleganger in GW1 so CD brings up bad memories.

I doubt that they meant they are literally giving portal to other classes. The utility of portal in both WvW and sPvP is disproportionate to any ability other classes have access to making them a must have class. The reason they moved away from the trinity system is because dedicated healers were a must have class, and this is something they didn’t want. I’m guessing they were referring to the need to provide other classes with skills that provide as great of utility as portal, but I don’t expect most people on the forums to understand this.

Now there is the guesting system to consider and I know Its great idea and all that but long story short you can’t stay there all the time like you could if you used the transfer system right now. You can only stay there along as you stay logged into the game which for people that don’t want to pay gems this could be the only way of seeing there friends which on paper sounds good but it’s a golden ball and chain at the same time.

This made me laugh. Why do you feel the need to know that your character is on a particular server when you are logged out? That’s like a blind person complaining about the color of his walls.

I’m actually expecting a mass transfer from CD over the next few days. There seems to be some psychological need for most players to want to be in at least Tier 3. So with everyone in panic mode over paid transfers they’ll see CD in third and see Maguuma and Kaineng dominating, and decide wow I better get off soon.

- Are able to man a siege cannon for 3-5 hours in an empty zone
- Are a 1200 spammer ranger

- Totally utilize the mesmer class by only using Spatial Surge and iZerker
- Love CnD and stealing into a mesmer shatter bomb
- Name your zerg guild after an omnipotent being and totally melt while fielding vs. a 5-men

According to the rankings site, Maguuma is scheduled to be team green in tier 3 next week.

Rankings site is unreliably until at least 3 days into the match. Rankings are determined by percent differential in scores, therefore in the beginning of the match when scores are relatively small in absolute terms, the differentials will be large in percentage terms causing the predicted rank movements to be a lot more volatile. Not sure why people haven’t caught on to this yet.

Yes, server match-ups were mostly balanced with the exception of Kaineng. It took a couple months to become that way after the initial imbalances because of how slowly their rating system adjusts server tiers. Given how lopsided most every tier is right now, it will be at least a month until tiers are rebalanced. Guesting nullifies any excuses people could make about not being able to play with their friends, or their server being dead and not being able to find a dungeon party.

Switching from Engineer to Guardian isn’t a reason for higher repair bills, switching from a good build to a bad build is. I play guardian and almost never die in WvW, and my play style includes a lot of solo/small group roaming where you inevitably run in to 95% thieves.

What’s the purpose of this post? The person you quoted said we would be in T4, they never said it was the “end of the world”, you said that. Kaineng and Maguuma are both doing really good now, so if they move up and are better than us, that would place us in T4 given that you are currently first place in T3. A person makes a logical conjecture and a friendly offer for a rematch and that makes you sad… this post makes me sad.
