The thief class is a crutch for bad players. The amount of skill it takes to play it is nothing compared to the amount of skill it takes to counter it.
I doubt Anet will change WvW to have SPvP rules. I get the impression that they want WvW to be the noob friendly PvP area. With a 5 man team you really need to carry your weight or your team will fail, but with the 50 man zergs in WvW you can run around clueless, do extremely stupid kitten and it probably won’t really matter. If all you do is run dungeons and decide to try out PvP for the first time, then you will automatically have better gear than most other people so it will be that much harder for you to fail. It seems like a place for people who aren’t really confident about PvP to get accustomed to competitive play.
Attacking siege in WvW with a one-handed sword doesn’t work properly. Sword Wrath will hit, Sword Arc will Hit, but Sword Wave does no damage and will repeat itself three times. So attacking will look like this Sword Wrath for 53, Sword Arc for 55, Sword Wave for 0, Sword Wave for 0, Sword Wave for 0. Makes it so that you have to cancel your attack combo after Sword Arc and attack the siege again or have a lot of time where you are doing no damage to the siege.
As soon as they announce transfers will be paid everyone will switch servers to make sure they are on the one they want for the long haul. This will make all the match-ups unbalanced again and it will take another 2 months for the rating system to adjust the tiers appropriately.
Well it seems that thief is op, which means it will probably get fixed at some point by Anet. So, how are ele and thief in Pve?
Na, thief has been op for awhile. Anet just doesn’t think it is, so it’s safe to make one and you will still be able to destroy everyone while eating your bag of cheetos.
Sounds like EBay and CD have an alliance against mag? Discuss.
Yeah, we’re actually sleeping with EBay so it’s one of those things. You know how it is.
Can someone help me with the maths.
Maximum score you can get atm is +695
How many hours in 1 week = 168 hours
How many 15 minute intervals in 168 hours.
= 168 * 4 = 672so 672 * 695 should give us the maxium score we can obtain in a week?
Maximum score = 467020But then if people are getting over 600k my maths isn’t adding up :L
can someone explain to me what I am doing wrong and figure out whats the maximum number of points we can obtain in a week?
Yeah that’s odd. You could also say that between all three servers in any match-up they will own every point on the map for every 15 minute interval, so the sum of their three scores at the end of the week should be the maximum score possible.
Play thief, they faceroll other classes in 2 seconds and even if you completely kitten up you can just stealth for a re-do.
Mag generally doesn’t drop superior siege, it’s not a normal thing we do. Just sayin’.
We do drop a metric ton of normal siege though.
Yeah, we pop it for important things like keep and garrison. EB and CD don’t pop it at all. Hell, the other day CD was running around with a 100 man zerg chopping gates down bare-handed in Eternal. That’s why they’re the lowest ranked of the “24/7 queues” servers. It’s funny because they’re also incredibly tryhard. Only 2-3 CD showed up for fight club, and they repeatedly tried to crash it screaming “NO FUN ALLOWED!” Must be frustrating to take WvW that seriously but also be so awful at it.
24/7 queues? It’s fun playing make believe, but lets try to keep the forum discussion based on facts. CD has never had queues outside of Friday night in EB, even when we were in Tier 2.
I’m one of them throwing b****** of cliffs with Illusionary Wave, umad?
Nope, it is your freedom to do whatever you like.
I just find it a pointless exercise when you are actually losing, But you have your logic, I am sure.
If you are going to make a logical argument you would first have to show that winning WvW isn’t a pointless exercise. What do you get? E-Rep from the server ladder?
I wish Anet would just take their PvP system from GW1 and put it in GW2. Loves it when I saw that “Flawless Victory 29 Consecutive Wins” pop up at the end of the match.
If Blackgate and Isle of Janthir could compete in Tier 1 fine, they wouldn’t be in Tier 2. I stopped reading after that point because I could tell it would be a waste.
It’s obviously a carry-over from GW1 and other classic rpgs which really should have been given the chop long ago.
Where was magic find in GW1? I don’t remember it.
Guys the solution to this problem has already been invented. Paragon Levels! It gives all the grinding fans something to strive towards, and eventually you won’t even need MF gear! Yaaay!
Nice to see that other people here played NWN, I always thought I was in some odd-ball group of gamers that played that. The amount of time I spent thinking up character builds for online dueling in that game is rediculous, but with around 20+ classes, triple classing, and 40 levels to do what you want with there are a lot of combinations.
Games I’ve Played a Lot: Diablo 1+2, Guild Wars 1, Neverwinter Nights 1, Quake 1-4 + Quake Live, Call of Duty 4, Starcraft 1+2, Knights of the Old Republic 2, Dark Forces, Jedi Knight 1(Dark Forces 2)-3, Warcraft 1-3, Descent 1-3. Most of these games I still play today.
Games I Tried But Quit: WoW trial, Silkroad, Runes of Magic, Vindictus, Diablo 3, Neverwinter Nights 2, Aika, Eudemons, League of Legends, Rohan. Some games like Silkroad and Rohan had rediculous grinding requirements and after I would get about 1/3 to max level I just realized it was never going to happen and uninstall. Other games like League of Legends are full of kitten that cuss you out every game, so I decided to uninstall and save myself from the verbal abuse. Thirdly, games like Runes of Magic and Aika have very high gear dependence plus full open PvP which means I get one shot constantly by stealthed characters even while doing something like talking to an NPC to finish a quest; uninstall those games out of frustration.
Guild Wars 2: Good music and interesting gameplay, but needs a lot of work. I was mainly interested in PvP which is crippled compared to what you got with GW1, and if it continues to keep adding more difficult dungeons with more powerful gear I won’t be buying any expansions for it. I quit playing PvE after they added Ascended gear till I see how far they are taking this thing, so right now I just log in and play sPvP for a little every now and then.
I don’t know why we’re fighting cd again when they beat us by 110k points because they have way more players than us. This match-making system is terrible.
If you can’t beat us, join us.
the forums are a great avenue for boosting own ego and some chest thumping~ loving it!
And don’t forget the trash talking. Some say it’s bad form, but I think it add just a little more spice to the battle, like the difference between mild and hot dipping sauce.
I guess to add to the positive.

According to wallstreet journal, Nexon went down pretty hard along with everyone else.
That’s all Obamanomics.
In Guild Wars 1 you had to play in a 4v4 arena match to get out of pre-searing. Guild Wars was a PvP focused game, maybe do research next time.
I think you’re the one who needs to do some research, since you seem to be under the impression that GW1 and GW2 are the same game.
Oh you got me. I guess GW2 isn’t a PvP focused game. Oh wait, but why would you have to do PvP to finish map completion then…. hmmmmm
This argument is pointless. The main problem with Ascended gear is its impact on WvW, and the people who like endless dungeon running for Ascended gear don’t WvW. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people say Ascended won’t matter because all you do in WvW is zerg vs zerg.
Warriors are not OP. The only players getting stomped by them are the ones that have a dual monitor set-up and are watching.. well you get where I’m going. I play guardian and destroy them all the time even with their 100b frenzy keyboard smash combo.
what probably happened here is that the ranger used his knockback after the thiefs intial 20k burst and somehow stopped it it could be by sheer skill or just a panic reaction to be able to hit the invisible man
now this so flabbergasted the thief that he stood still for 15 seconds checking or his mouse was still connected.. meanwhile the ranger kept dpsing him for 10 seconds and thus the thief died.
Hahaha! I don’t understand this thread, the stealth mechanic has one of the lowest skill thresholds in the game to use properly. Somehow OP manages to kitten it up, and wants other classes to be nerfed for it.
Great thread guys. Some positive posts in here. It’s always great to see you guys passionately voicing how the game needs to improve.
I think that dueling is a great feature, but I don’t think it’s as important (right now) as ratings or a leaderboard is. With custom arenas, people will be able to duel all day long (1v1, or 2v2, or 3v3), so it seems to me that we need to focus more on rankings and leaderboards.
To that same end, I think that other game modes are something we’ll look at down the road, but for now, I think other features are just more important (like rankings, custom arenas where people can practice in private, leaderboards, spectator mode).
Johnny for the love of God, bring back random arenas! I can’t stand this capping bunker bullkitten.

I play games because I enjoy their competitive nature. I couldn’t care less about Ascended gear in PvE, but it does bother me for WvW. I don’t want to fight somebody and get one-shotted because they simply have a lot more time to farm gear than I do, I’ve already had enough of that in MMOs. That doesn’t mean that I think everyone should be rewarded without effort though. If a game is designed properly, then it will reward skillful play and these more experienced players will win more often. This is a more dynamic form of vertical progression because while vertical gear progression is almost entirely dependent on the time you spend, vertical skill progression also takes into account your ability to learn and adapt. I think players should be rewarded for their intelligence and creativity rather than the amount of free time they have.
Your claims have nothing to do with FoTM, people in general are idiots. That’s why I could never be bothered to play most games that require team work. You can go play LoL where there is no grind at all and people will cuss you out simply because you don’t go in the lane they want you to.
- Water, there should be water around the keep (like bay) only that you won’t be able to cross it.
Hmm, water that you can’t cross. Sounds like molten LAVA!
I don’t have ascended gear but I have a prediction. They will come out with an easier way to get them. People who did the work to get them will be pissed about it and will have disdain for the people who got it easier. Terms like welfare epics will be used. I can already feel the love.
This is exactly what will happen. You sir, are a smart cookie.
Gear treadmill doesn’t have an official definition so they can say whatever they want about it.
No no no. The original papaya was perfect for you. You enjoyed it for MONTHS. If it was rotten you would have never enjoyed it in the first place and taken it back immediately for a refund.
Yeah but now the papaya has given you AIDS. Whether or not you choose to acknowledge it, its there.
This is the correct analogy.
Fine, lets go with this silliness.
It’s your choice to partake of the AIDS. You can still eat the papaya without getting AIDS if you so choose.
No one is making you get the AIDS. That’s an option available to you however if you would like.
I seem to be lost. Which way to the Guild Wars 2 forums?
Alright, I’ve become incredibly lost and fed up with this issue at this point.
So we all know about ascended gear, and infusions, ect.Okay..so here is my source:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/13gj0p/ascended_gear_and_infusions_how_to_make_them_and/Naturally if I was to participate in getting ascended gear, I need a back piece.
+17 Power
+24 Toughness
+1% Critical Damage
+32 Toughness
+18 Power
+4% Critical Damage
Yeah, that looks good. Materials?1 Vial of Condensed Mists Essence- havent gotten one yet, but alright.
50 Globs of Ectoplasm- little steep, but i guess it is a brand new back piece.
24 skill points- alright, sure.
250 Teir 6 fine crafting material- um..what?
And that 250 tier 6 is for my piece is…armored scales!
The only time i’ve ever farmed armored scales is when i need some for a weapon I was crafting. After 2.5-3 hours of farming drakes (in MF gear), i ended up with…2!
And Balthazaar knows i probably hit the DR before the first one even kitten dropped..Moving along..
We need to infuse this gear, yeah? Lets see..Base back slot item-Okay..
Glob of Coagulated Mists Essence- Havent gotten one still, but alright..
Gift of Ascension- 500 fractal shards…thats pretty annoying, but alright?
250 Globs of Ectoplasm-LOL? Are we catering to those that got rich via exploiting the precursor farming? (And sure, ecto isnt THAT expensive, but a whole stack for ONE piece?)So, at this point, the “end game” achievement..is a fractal weapon. You need the ascended gear to get there, ect, and those are basically the “end goal” from the high fractal difficulties.
Except…hell, i wont even try to guess how many people will actually make it there.
But the problem is..WHY IS EVERYTHING LIKE THIS?
WHY IS EVERYTHING SO EXPENSIVE/REQUIRES A kitten AMOUNT OF MATERIALS?
WHY AM I REQUIRED TO GAIN A LARGE AMOUNT OF MATERIALS IN A GAME THAT HAS VERY STRICT REGULATIONS WHEN IT COMES TO GRINDING?Seriously? I am required to have absurd materials, which requires me to grind, but I cannot do that because of diminishing returns and grind regulations.
What is going on anymore?
Lol what? I stopped playing when they introduced ascended gear just because I didn’t want to be constantly chasing items regardless of how difficult they were to get. But this… this is rediculous. If Anet was having problems with bots before, it will be nothing compared to what’s about to start with this kind of grind. Diablo 3 is the prime example of a game designed around grinding and look at the state of botting in it.
I actually considered this briefly (not all those points, but “Under New Management” and the "FOTM’ abbreviation).
Would be great if tomorrow I logged in and saw patch notes “All item progression was just an in joke. We hope you had fun with it and no hard feelings! Item quality now scaled back to exotic as intended”
Would be nice, but they have a whole generation of gamers trained by WoW to think that the point of playing a game is to endlessly chase after better items and meaningless achievements.
Why does anyone think that 14.7% changes anything. Its just an investment in Nexxon’s Portfolio…not a controlling interest.
Because it does, on a publicly traded company.
Controlling interest is the largest interest. Also, substantial but non-controlling interest can still have massive impact on company direction.
Actually a controlling interest is greater than 50%, not the largest. But a 14.7% is substantial and is likely to get them some board placement which gives them influence over management decisions. In the US, shareholders must file a schedule 13D with the SEC once they obtain a 5% interest or higher to give you perspective on what is considered exercising influence.
While I agree with all of your points, I disagree about controlling interest (in practice).
50.1% is an unshakeable controlling interest, for sure.
Controlling interest can be far less than that. As long as no group of stockholders can outvote you, you have controlling interest. So while technically this is going to depend on the company bylaws, practically even an amount such as 15% combined with politics and other stakeholder opinions can be quite nearly a controlling interest.
Maybe so, but my background is in accounting so we have precise definitions for everything.

It’s just so funny. Diablo 3 started off bad and got increasingly better after patches, this one just went from hero to zero with just one major content patch after release.
Between the gear treadmill, bugs, stupid one-time events and the piss poor technical design of fractals, I’m out. GW2 was a $60 well spent, but not a single cent more when it could have got more from me.
Diablo 3 is still bad. The only people still playing it are bots so they can get their paragon 100, because it can’t realistically be attained by a person who has anything resembling a life. Guild Wars 2 started off bad and became worse. They give you one boring pvp mode with terrible balance that drives off the pvp crowd, and give you a bunch of dungeons that are apparently too easy to drive off the dungeon crowd (I don’t actually know as I’ve never run a dungeon, but this is what I hear). Now they give you some Progress Quest rip-off gear grind with events that punish players unless they spent every minute of their free time logged into the game. Core mechanics in both games have been dumbed down from their predecessors to the point that a monkey could play the game without hesitation. There’s my rant, both games will be gathering dust for me.
Guild Wars 2 adding gear progression to compete with World of Warcraft is like Fred Meyer lowering their prices to compete with Walmart. It just won’t end well.
I took the l2p people’s advice and made a thief to learn about it. After about my fourth match with a thief, I was able to face roll 90% of players in 2 seconds and was consistently the highest scoring player on my team. If a player was smart enough to survive, I just stealth and run away, then come back later when they aren’t prepared and murder them before they know what happened. The thief is my new main, all these people complaining about thief burst and thief stealth need to learn to play the game.
Why is this surprising again? If you don’t like the game you won’t be playing it, so you will be on the forums. If you do like the game you will be playing it, so you won’t be on the forums.
I use them to vomit on people I kill in WvW.
It took about 6 hours to get a char to max lvl in Guild Wars and another 5 hours to get max gear.
I am sorry but I can’t help to point out, this is just so not true, at least for a first time player without some veteran players’ help… Let’s not bend the facts here. The original Guild Wars while being good, is far from painless / stressless / no grinding to play. Don’t get me wrong, I love the original Guild Wars, but that doesn’t make it a better game than Guild Wars 2, in every way in my opinion.
When I first got Factions I made a ritualist and got him to lvl 20 in 6 hours by doing the quest line. Maybe they nerfed the xp in the beginning areas for factions later on, but when it first came out it was incredibly easy to level up. Original campaign did take a bit longer as did nightfall, but I would say they were still 10 hours tops.
I would go back to Guild Wars 1, but it doesn’t look like many people play it anymore. I just got Chivalry: Midieval Warfare and that is the most fun I’ve had in a game in a long time. I’ll also be checking out SC2: HoTS and CoH 2, but I won’t be going to another MMO. Can’t stand most MMOs, Guild Wars 1 was the exception.
A lot of people bought Guild Wars 2 expecting it would be similar to Guild Wars. It took about 6 hours to get a char to max lvl in Guild Wars and another 5 hours to get max gear. Ascended gear/endless dungeon grinding is about as far from that concept as you can get.
Lol, you said “4 skin”
I don’t understand these arguments against people seeking refunds saying they got their moneys worth. We know that some people have successfully received refunds for the game, so if you don’t plan on playing the game anymore because you don’t approve of the direction what is wrong with trying to get your money back?
Just like if a bank extends a loan to a company and the company goes bankrupt. The bank could say, well I knew there was a chance of default when I made the loan so I will accept the entire loss. But I can guarantee the smart banks will send over every lawyer they have to recover as much as possible before the company’s other creditors do.
I couldn’t get a refund because, guess what, I was suckered into pre-purchasing.
People who pre-purchased can still get refunds. People who pre-purchased before May 18 can’t. Makes sense right?
A golem named BUY-4373, an NPC named Subdirector Blingg, and a jumping puzzle named Under New Management.
I’m sorry, but those references are too coincidental to just be funny. Thanks for letting us now, ANet.
Yeah.
Hey Anet guys who were against all this crap… you might want to try getting a job at Neverwinter online or do something with kickstarter.
Tell us about it when you can, and sorry they trashed your game. heh.
Even better, they should all just start their own company and make a TRUE successor to Guild Wars 1.
Haha, everytime I make a thread where the title doesn’t directly describe the contents, a moderator changes it.
If you think spies are a problem now, that will be nothing compared to what will happen if you add friendly fire to siege.
