i like an pisto/pistol build without a single kit… any idiot can avoid bombs/grenades and flametrowers anyway
OP doesnt realise that this game does not like people standing still… keep moving, 90% of the grenades will miss anyway… but that would require you to both spam your 1 button and move at the same time… thats to hard
Welll.. kits shouldnt be used for yust damage anyway.. else you culd yust trow away your weapon and run around with an kit all day (which ISNT whats supposed to be viable). You should use the for knocksbacks, conditions and other utilities and keep the real damage to the main weapon.

So OP… you want all your utilities be yust as strong as you are yourself even though you know an flametrower with the same dps as rifle would be overpowered because the flametrower has more versatile skills allowing knockback and blind to…
so you want to be able t run around with flametrower kit forever without ever feeling the need to switch?
You want turrets to be able to kill people on sight and want to be able 1 shot boss mobs since you apparently are not skilled enough to kill them?

At one hand glue shot is quite nice… at the other hand the glueshot takes longer to fly through the air then it actually lasts
Bargraw.. Engineers relying on perma burning instead of bleed? … Even with full burning runes/traits and all.. Your bleeds will still do more overall dmg and your burning will surely not be perma since even duration stacked and traited you wont be able to keep it up that long (i do give the fact it has quite a duration then BUT.. 1 condition removal and say bye bye to ur dmg), while bleeding is being reapplied every shot.

Also Janhyua… real img signatures arent allowed yet, to much lag and space could be used if to much people go for that so i think theyll wait with that till thy have everything figured out

Downed state… unbalanced and needs fixes BUT imo something that is really GW2 and i hope they NEVER think about removing it.

Dont forget that pistol viability actually need to be heightened slight to… or at least an increase in the bleed duration .. yust to make p/p more viable
Still.. i really love Engineer at any pvp situation… do hear hes quite boring in pve at lvl 80
looking at your suggestions i wouldnt play pistol either if i were you… it would only double the lenght of the list

The lack of any dmg will break you up. Especially in sPvP you would think you would be able to hold an point, but i would say you did probably die much quicker then expected.. espcially when they have poison on you and your not able to run around that much (like every second in pvp :p ). My opinion on Engineer survivalbility still hangs on dodging + slows/blind etc. much more then on possible healing.
Not sure how youll get aggro in dungeons either.. cause i assume youll try to act like a tank, but not sure if the mobs would actually attack you or one of the dps.
As Engineer i have not done real PvE yet.. i have done alot of spvp tournaments though and till now ive basicly owned up alot :P
Dont worry about specific builds people recommend… there are never going to be as good as the build you make for yourself..
even simple things like yust.. condition pistol or power rifle.. forget about the kits, yust take the things that seem handy to you even if it involves 3 gadgets or something
I dont have any kits myself, and tbh im sure it would only hold me back. people hoping for people to step into bomb kits, stand still to get hit grenade kit or assume people dont yust take them out on range if they go flametrower.
though some things like explosive shot need a slight buff, almost any build works IF the build fits you.

The fact that it proved it wasnt needed at GW1 and the fact that its ruining the customisation feature and desire to get cooler gear at higher ranks shows… colours aint needed!
I played elementalist for the 3 beta weekends and stress tests.. always was going to be my maingoal
i switched to engineer at the first day after release, because elementalists were being force into the only viable role as glass cannon.
Also, elementalist at 1v1? come on.. everyone knows elementalists cant win 1v1 :P as condition engineer i yust apply a couple of bleeds to elementalists, make sure i dont get bursted and after attacking some other people ill go back to the elementalist who meanwhile is lying downed on the ground.
elementalist is best at AoE , but in spvp people dont go stand in areas anyway, thats yust dumb (in wvw at keep defense its great though).
As elementalist atm you have 1 role, glass cannon… everything else is not really viable atm imho, so if some1 has (and quite a nice amount of people have that) a way to simply dodge/block/absorb the damage that can almost only come in short bursts…. your toast as elementalist
in that opinion my conclusion would be that elementalist is best at WvW, but in sPvP engineer will be the better choice
Another thought comes to mind, is a lot of this “Mesmer hate” also to do with being able to avoid the common burst combos (Steal > Pistol Whip & Hammer KD > 100 Blades) by blinking backwards, Chaos Storming or Chaos armoring?
I wonder if these people are aware that everyone has numberous skills to “avoid” the burst combos.
Thief: Shadow step, blind power, roll for initiative
Engineer: Miniturisation Elixir, Stability Elixir, Shield 4 & 5
Elementalist: Mist Form, Arcane Shield, Armor of Earth

Not really, im an condition engineer so looking at my skills there isnt much to avoid as an mesmer. Nonetheless they keep disappearing, i keep losing focus (even with ctrl target) and they yust keep summoning clones/phantasms… most used tactic ive see so far is Mesmers running around an wall or tree while the phantasms kill everything and they make sure they arent being hit
and ofcourse.. ill do the same with my “anti-burst” stuff which works against other classes burst to compare how it works vs mesmers
Engineer:
Miniturisation Elixir: gratz, the engineer now cant do kitten for a couple of seconds while an mesmer makes sure his phantasms are up and prepares to stealth again
Stability Elixir, doesnt work vs mesmers, no knockdown etc.
Shield 4 & 5.. again, no effect against mesmers
Immobilise… nope, mesmer is gone again
Once you get into higher skilled groups youll notice… noone stands in areaspells anymore.. especially if they have time to get out of the area
Do more pvp and see if you rely on the color of the people to identify the teams… i can assure you that you will never do that.
guardians are fine, become an engineer and plant some conditions on his face. Even the most condition removing guardians have trouble surviving then for some reason

Yust removing those standard dyes would make pvp more rewarding since you not only are able to get cooler looking pvp gear, but also customise it to your own style

Explosives shots needs either an increase in bleed duration OR a different slight buff, like aoe bleed.

well, it might work for him… but i kinda find this build not efficient. All the traits only have 1 target spell…
exploding turrets .. only for the healing turret since you dont have any more.
radius on bombs and mines.. only for your mine because you have nothing else
and so on.. in my opinion a build that has minimal 2 spells benefitting from each trait would be more efficient.. but thats yust my opinion ofcourse

o, as condition build in pvp i actually rely on the condition applying spells of my pistols… i cant yust switch to a kit because ill kinda lose the condition apply
Kinda weird, since pistol engineer should be all about conditions, but rangers/elementalists and ofcourse necromancers all can stacks bleeds waaaaay faster then engineer kinda :S

sPvP atm is like this yeah…
but i can assure you, try this in an tournament match and you will get utterly destroyed and stomped.
Ninja’ing is an tactic. Since you can make an teamtactic involving it, or one making sure the other team cant ninja.. it cant be unbalanced or unfair.
Its yust an map mechanic and if you think stealing the boss is unfair, you should also vote for removing sharks from raid on capricorn or disabling the lords at Legacy of Foefire..
that way we will yust have some standard conquest maps left, which apparently is what you guys want :P
Thief yust requires buttonmash to do relatively more burst then any other class, BUT once people get higher skillevels, they will know how and when to avoid getting bursted by heartseeker.
Imo the problem will solve itself once people learn more about PvP and buttonmashing wont be enough anymore to kill people.
No, dont remove downed state.. its the big thing setting it apart from pvp at other games. yes, some downed skills need slight tweaks, but till now it hasnt messed with the balance at all and if you think downed state is useless and unbalanced…

just a hint:
1. at some point stacking condition damage is less efficient than increasing condition duration.
2. sigils share cooldown thus it is best to have 1 passive sigil (like bonus duration on a condition) and 1 proccing sigil.example build:
explosives 10 – Incendiary Powder
firearms 30 – Rifled Barrels, Napalm Specialist, Coated Bullets.
Alchemy 30 – Fast Acting Elixirs, Cleaning Formula, HGHnow for runes you take 2x Afflicted, 2x Krait, 2x Lyssa.
Sigils 1x Smoldering, 1x of your choice
that is a total
bleeding duration: 40% runes + 10 % from explosive points = +50%
burning duration: 10% from runes + 10 % from sigil + 10 from explosive points + 20% napalm specialist = +50%result: 3s bleed vom explosive shot, 3s burn from Incendiary Powder, 9 second burn from blowtorch if you hit at close range. just a note: the 9s burn from blowtorch will deal 6k damage in those 9 seconds with the rabid amulet and jewel.

Atm i surely have Elixer B and Elixer S in my build (noone is going to convince me otherwise)
But as third atm i have battering ram (which actually is way better then people say because the cripple is awesome and the blowout is quite storng vs almost every proff)…. nonetheless im having second doubts about it. So… any utility i actually should have and why? (No kits, i really dont like kits

Even though i really like Engineer and also the Elixers…. but… the random effect does do more dmg to the player then to the enemy. We cant base tactics on elixers cause they do what they want themselfs :S

So… if i have an p/p condition build and dont want to use kits, is there any other way to defeat mesmers as it is now?
Alot of people feel forced to use them in pvp to… but that could be because of mesmers a bit to :S

Elixer was supposed to make Engineers unpredictable… sadly enough it made Engineer unpredictable for the player him/herself to :P
It will take you some mental persuasion, but make 1 character and everytime you get bored switch pvp<>wvw<>pve. Also keep strong and keep convincing yourself that your class is the best. Started doing this since WoW… Atm i cant play anything except my main character… I think i have a problem now to since i cant make any alts and play them without being mentally destroyed XD
Dont forget the Throw Elixer B Description which atm clearly says it gives 4 boons while only giving one
Still think the Mesmer phantasm doing the Illusionary Sword Strike deals to much dmg, he does like 4-5k every single strike and he hits quite fast. In fact, hes way more annoying then any normal Warrior ive seen so far
But as i have to agree with the post above though.. those are Illusionist Mesmers… in my opinion the condition/power mesmers should get a buff making that also an viable way to go.
Thief is kinda really easy to play.. lately tested out a build based on Quickness .. managed to get 18k dps on a engineer with 2600 armor.
The balancing things are not that bad though, its not like 1 guy yust rules everything .. yust some small tweaks here and there.

As it is now it grants only 1 boon to allies … so either the spell is bugged or the description needs to be change… since now it clearly says it will apply all those boons to allies.
