What i want to know is if its per class played. There are huge diffrences between classes and the player mastering it. I am a good example. When i play my main i trained i am quite competative. When i play something else and get paired due to my main sucsess rate i get a lot of rants … If i play against below average with my main i can whipe them 1:3 ….
So whatever you do please do it per class and player. (and then don´t allow class swap after map roll)

Agree. The post is very good. The only thing i hope is that there is a competent and dedicated person behind it. GW2 class balace and diversity is to large to just schedule some manpower to it for the next patch.

While perfect balace is not realy possible and also not needed in a game like GW2 i find it is in a balaced shape.
But there always seem a few things to be a bit too outstanding… Which disrupts balance.
This is when you compare classes. If you look deeper into the classes it comes to diversity, which comes from balancing diffrent builds (traits, skills …) of a class. Here GW2 is not in a good shape. To much “Stuff” is way behind.

And i don´t agree that a build should not beat another build. Its important that builds beat each other in a game like GW2. Of course not because they are plain better. It´s a balanced rock/paper/scissor system that works best.

The problem is to catch the roming classes.
There are options to do it.
1.) FSG best one. Flee or catch. When i draw it i am eiter off or get my target. Only the long CD is a pain.
2.) Range. Mainhand dagger is not a good choice to catch.
3.) Use sigils or utilities that slow the oponent. (Flash freeze, Earth signet, focus water chill, criple sigil )
4.) Use food that slows them.
5.) Condi damage
5.) Bring a fast friend with imob. (I play with a druid)

In duels or small fights the problem is not that i loose it´s that my oponent can run away.

I run scepter. So i can fight ranged. I use a torment sigil and keep them in combat.
During night i often run chilli pepper food. This chills my target.
Falsh freeze is very good to get thiefs. Hit it when they cloak. You see the hit position + chill him.

Fire/air/arcane core ele with staff is very much fun. It also can roam. In duels its not so good but as soo as you have a partner it should work. I suggest valkyr armor and substitute with trinkets as you are comftable(I would prefer captains but knights or celestial is OK. Assassin staff fits this to get the precision but zerker is fine too.

Cele trinkets because its something all eles have or should have in their account :-).
You can go zerker trinkets. But you will be much squishier and roaming thiefs might rip you apart.
The build is for advanced players but i guess you will handle it :-).

I like arcane blast because its a hard long range hit on 16s CD that gives 150 ferocity. It fits the build well. I would always run precision oil in this build!
This build should work as all around WvW build just hard to play in duels.

For easyier play not using air much pick bolt to the heart and use acuracy sigil.. Then its more or less fire camping. I suggest this one for new/casual ele players.

durability would be a strong choice. Warrior and dolyak are OK but not as good athe the other suggested. In fact durability is one of the best for a boon share build…. But not so easy to get.

Well i can also die to it so fast.. I run ele with not so much HP.
When someone attacks me out of stealth (or sowhow else surprise) I use skills as reflex. Its about 1-3 instants + at least 2 fast cast, target and in less then a second i did fire at least five skills and maybe trigger a passive stunbreaker and dodge.
So now imagine if the stealth attack was a mesmer unloading 12 confusion stacks ….
While this reaction wins against a thief (or most other classes) i die from confusion if its a condi mesmer …
Here half a year training is not a benefit …. Its diffrent if i see him coming but still very hard and a loss if he is good.

It is 36 to all stats and thats fine for cele elementslist. Yes its also in PvP but in PvP i don´t use it. If i need speed to reach a point faster i overload something i don´t need fast (like water). Or i get group swiftness annyway at start.
In PvP i run soldier rune and four shouts (rebound included).

Traveler rune for the win ;-). Fits cele ele well with boon and condi duration.
In roaming i always have one of the following:
Traited air, traveler rune or Signet of Air…
I prefer scepter and it should work fine.

I like this D/D build but yes rune is not realy the best choice.
leadership, scrapper are the two i would prefer. Also a tipp is surging rune.

Scepter got at least a nice buff. For me rock barrier buff was the greatest. I already liked shooting into a fied with it and now it adds 5 bleeding. Also 1sec on fire auto is a fine thing. Not the superpower but it can fill a bit of a gap by doing some burn preassure.
I personaly see only two power eles realy useful. One is a fresh air power build (scepter or dagger with dagger feelign better) and the other is a staff fire (mostly camping).
The staff build is less suited for duels but easy and nice in PvE and WvW.
I find ele is better as hybrid build and of course as full support …
I personaly alwas run S/F without water (ok i changed in sPvP when seeing a necro army going full cleanse bot). My builds are usually hybrids without regeneration. Teamsupport is still very noticeable but my killing power is a lot higher then cleric bunker ….

I agree thet ele is not the best in casing or disengaging unless FSG is drawn. This long CD is what sucks most ^^. Yesterday i could run after winning the small fight then drawing FSG and flee from the zerg …
Druid is a top roamer. I did run with a friend yesterday and he was the one catching the targets and i was the one making the fight a clear win.
But there are some small things like sigils and food that make a diffrence.
We did roam during night and i used Ghost pepper poppes as food and precision oil…
You don´t run easily from me then … The ghost pepper procs a chill. You get permachilled from my autoattack when i case you …

Agree i realy like my roaming ele. Yes druid and thiefs move faster but don´t have the power i have. Surprisingly hard to fight S/F ele good in small scale fights 1-3 on each side is best.

It maintains 3 illusions.
It´s used for PvE map completion and can solo tough mobs easy.

Of couse Viper equipement fits this build well as sinister does but this might be hard to get.
The food is often precision and condi based. The build needs a high crit rate to stack bleeding.

Yes thats why i go rifle in this build …. its only 1 CC less, ranged and builds a bit adrenalin.
But i wanted to test hammer again. So this is what i run at the moment. If you say its hammer is meh then i stick to rifle or might go GS which i can trait in this build.

I am a fan of the control warrior. I am testing it with strength. Discipline is not what i need. Also i go with dolyak signet but change this slot depending on match (berserker stance or might signet)
I squeeze out more power with armored assault. Also demolisher amulet.
I am also testing if body blow pays of or the 2k extra HP are fine.
Had no problems with stuns so far (i like to jup out of a stun with stomp). Condi defence is cleansing ire. Stability is a nuisiance but i can rip it. I am not a good warrior player but in 1:1 this kills. I have a bit troubles in larger fights with it. Might test greatsword and trait it.

Precision should not be lower here. Elite can also be FSG which is realy good in WvW and fighting in earth. If you need condi removal classic eather renewal helps which also goes well with rock solid trait.

I’ve seen a bleed build using phantasmal duelist and the bleed traits that seemed to work pretty well.

This is the type my daughter runs for PvE and WvW.
Staff + sword/sword build. Lots of bleeding stacks from clones and illusions.
In WvW it needs a bit stealth because it doesn´t kill too fast and it needs power/precision/condi stats which means lower defence. So its dangerous in WvW. In PvE she kills mobs just by walking by …

We are not fully finisehed with crafting but it looks like this.
You basically don´t use your signets, move constantly and maintain 3 illusions that do shatter on situation but not to fast. You use it for cleansing + healing not burst damage. The build does sustained damage. And its a base build. It was made for PvE but i find it nice to play in WvW too.

I started to train warrior as my second class and did play staff ele a bit. With staff i realized how traind i am already on my usual weapon set and how huge the diffrence is….
After about 500 matces on one class and weapon set you notice how bad you are with something new. And i don´t vanish with warrior since i know the game and had a few matches so i already have consideable level like killing most classes within a few seconds if they don´t dodge/block the shieldstun (a singe sunbreak doesn´t rescue them due to CC chain …).

The tempest cleric build is a group support/healer. It can´t realy kill but is hard to kill. It makes a small group much stronger.

I run a scepter/focus roaming tempest with fire/earth/tempest that has a condi focus. Basically a hybrid that can whipe a camp quite fast with a fire overload and i perform very well in small fights. Important is that you can play the type and have at least 25% movement speed for roaming. Traveler rune fits ele well here.

What i would add here are build templates. As example i have two builds in a class i usualy play. They are quite diffrent in amulet, sigil, traits …. One klick in the preparation phase would be fine…

Did want to go hammer not rifle but rifle plays better for me and also has two control skills.
Body blow is for the weakness. This build performs well in 1:1. I use the rifle to start the fight with a few shots. Also the 600 knockback is realy a nice thing.
No stances might be strange but i dislike long CD´s. But i do use berserkers stance when facing more then one condi class and i might swap blood sigil for generosity.
Stomp is a stunbreaker as headbut is too. I am also testign with other runes like melandru or sourging.
This build is fun to play. Did also do it by selecting confusion on interrupt with viper but wasn´t better. Just more squishy. Destroyer might be good but had only one match with it.

Hi

It depends much on the build but i would say thief and warrior are hard to master but easy to play decent. Average thiefs or warriors are easy prey, good ones extreme challengign. I can smash top revenants easier then a realy good warrior which usually kills me. Elementalist if you don´t play full defence is als quite hard.
I have the most fun with elementalist without water traited but needed half a year to play that challenging.

Conditions arent affected by toughness but by vitality
You can fully negate them with resistance boon or condi cleanse
Or just dodge/block/whatever just like with power attacks
There is no Condition spam, there is a general spam. Power is spammed on the same level, or even harder
Last season 2 out of 9 classes were using a condition build, but overpowered yet nerfed necro let it feel like a condition meta because of his aoe
Many players are kittened off of conditions, because they dont want to convert their build and use condi cleanse
Its a general problem, that many players want a power meta and use power builds without condi cleanse and then later cry everywhere, because they get rekt by condi builds..just accept that conditions are part of the game and not op, like you try to call them
Also the current protection boon spam by Auramancer ele is affecting power builds alot, things like this are the real problem..

So many are fine with the new skyhammer and this is a bit sad.
It´s not that the map is bad now. Its indeed a map useful for conquest and well playable for “Normal” fights. The problem is see is it´s nothing realy diffrent. It had been a fun map with tactical options. Yes falling, pulling kicking players down was the good thing on this map making if very diffrent. The canon change was good. I did´t like it and we have a map with shooting (Khylo). It feels a bit like less diversity the map is more normal now.
Foefire: On one side lord chage was good. On the other side it now more or less denies the loosing side a last minute turn of the outcome, which makes the map even more booring because its already a very narrow, fast group fighting map without much tactics.
It´s a base thing. Do you want all maps in a way where only the better team dominates or maps where tactics and map rotation can turn a fight. Foefire is now even more the map where the stronger team will dominate.

no. It´t fine as it is. My version is more tactical with range. Scepter has nice AE denial. Shure you can evade it but it hurts if hitting and is good on downed. And a singe target will feel the preassure unless hes an ele himself especially meta ele …. You can´t realy kill the cleric bunker with this build unless hes bad.
This build has drawbacks, but it often works surprisingly well. It shines in 2:2 fights.
I can´t remeber loosing 2:2 fights if my partner is not to bad. An it is unbelivable fun if you pair it with another ele that can play. Oh well its no fun for the oponent XD.
Its an endless fighty where the two eles bring one down per minute or so .. even outnumbered.

the build up is a bit slower and i guess thiefs got a slight advantage because of bleeding.
But it can stack up heavier and now you can´t mitigate it with – chill duration or like ele with chill + burn removal by dodge. This was not a real nerf…

yep. I use OL as my stunbreakers. I must not fully channel them.
And i do agree that armor of earth is useful for your mainhand dagger. Its a risk too but for one ride it will work often. So its fine to go for it.

I don´t see that condi necro is nerfed to the ground…. It´s propably more psycological.
And to all condi haters. diverstiy means that power and condi is viable. This means you might die to one or the other when build for the oposite. Yea people dislike being killed by a wrong decision or build and not “Skill”. for me building and choosing how to fight is part of the skill. A game made for pure reflexes (+fast computers, internet) where at best all classes are perfecly balanced to be the same (no rock, paper, scissors), is totally doomed. Its player base will die out leaving only a few of the best addicted to the game.

I dislike high cooldown utilities. Especially armor of earth which is 75s CD (or 60) and one boon corrupt or steal ruins it. I prefer short recharge stunbreakers over to much stab.
The only stab i do run is from earth overload which is a very helpful addition.
If realy needed air signet and gale song are my choices. when running arcane i used the shield traited.

OMG there is a bit damage diversity and people feel forced to play heavy condi defence.
Well i you play a cleanse bot and leve out a few direct daamge conters you will die to 2/3 of all oponents. Playing the other side you might go 50:50 so its your choice …

mesmer is strong in 1:1. No doupt and it brings good team utility, a bit oneshots but good.
DH, warior and thief are very strong against mesmers.
UPS all three fell out of meta.. maybe its time think about it. I see what Anet is trying but unfortunately they are scrapping build diversity …

Yes getting stuck in earth not to die is quite common. A thief kills you out of earth within 2 seconds …
But this is the secret of scepter. the buff was gorgeous for me. :-). It´s cheesy ^^.
One drwawback: good warriors smash you XD.

nerfing protection on ele will kill all damage oriented builds. The best nerf to ele would be lowering regeneration and buffing arcane and fire lines for damage.

This basically i the build to go.
I usually build something that i can use for evrything and not start swaping equipement. So a build for WvW + PvE and not to bad in dungeons or even raids.
If you can get new equipement then i would take it. Most ele have cele trinkets and those fit well. Maurauders armor is also perfect and if only berserker is available do it.

This is a very sololid all around build. It does a lot of damage and don´t forget that you add a lot of burning.

Going WvW then is firy greatsword and teleport or cleansing flame instead of the glyph + trait tempest defence.
Also take -condition food not + power.

Its totally easy to use, not dead in 1 second and does powerful damage and mightstacking.
It´s not a 100% direct damage build. For that full zerker + strength rune is better.
If you need an excape Joker use mistform. I did this a few times in the past.

Indeed. I use scepter and kite ….. This is a huge diffrence. I often disengage using earth overload if needed. I do go in and out of a fight as i see fit not being forced into meele like dagger. I go close for wash the pin away or take a hard hitting ride through the oposing team firing feel the burn + cleansing flame mid going on the other side back to ranged fire. In ranged combat i usually have the edge with reflects.
With 600 radius i can support from the edge.
Most of the time when i disengage this caused someone chasing me and this last a while also pulling the oponent off point.
