They could just make skyhammer a daily activity… or place it underwater… or make skyhammer dodge-able and remove 2 of those 3 glass panes around points.
Easy solution. Map still good for something. They dont, because… well… there’s a reason dev’s still believe engi and warrior need more love.
Exactly why we need new players…. if the good veterans are leaving you need players. They need to learn to pvp just like the veterans did. So now a player may become interested in pvp and find they lIke it. But what needs to not happen is the brutal whining, I can admit when im beaten by skill not just build and it’s something people need to learn to do instead of just qqing about a build. On another note how about nerf the s/d theives…..
The thing is… those “new” players are actually only there to grind achievements, and then they leave. They arent even trying to be good or fair. They just want to get their achievements and rewards as fast as possible. Resulting in people leaving hotjoin games as soon as they realize they are not getting carried, wanna-be meta build runners in solo que with no clue about team work or the maps themselves – or even the build they are currently running.
In short: those new players view spvp as a chore, with no interest in any kind of spvp community or real competitive playstyle.

I have NEVER seen anyone actually carry a whole team.
Three people carrying two baddies… yes… way too often… but ONE carrying FOUR others? Nope.
It’s not dying. It’s getting overrun by achievement point hunters. Veterans are leaving because they are just getting fed up being paired with and against idiots thinking loading the newest meta build on their character means they are pro.

Heal/support guardian + birdsie -> even more fun
Running condi build with burning runes -> trumps it all until you meet support ele with birdsie runes ;p
Btw, did you notice that bird and dog AI are way better and way more responsive than necro minion AI? Funny how you have to run pirate runes as MM to have at least one pet that attacks immediatly instead of standing around for 30+ seconds and then deciding to wander off after you get downed.

Skyhammer only if your team switches characters and you can suddenly hold on to cannon.
But lets be honest… comebacks are extremely rare. Either it’s close from the start or it’s pretty much decided after first team hits 200+ and other team lags 100 behind. At that point you have to pray for:
a) a sudden spike in IQ of your teammates (never seen that happen)
b) a sudden drop of IQ of enemy team (seen that happen way too often)
c) your afk comes back
d) enemy team looses 1-2 players to disconnect/afk.
yeah. getting into too100 is meaningless. you could get into top100 by luck or something. however, keeping within top100 for more than few weeks by playing everyday is harder. That’s why many soloq top pvpers, except people i mentioned above whose names are Jorse avitori Hao Haiji, usually avoid playing since they archiving highest rank of them. what they do is like playing only 1 time in a week or month and get their rank back to leaderboard. How sad it is, anet should change system entirely.

And I mean… you even can slightly manipulated queue for solo arena to get in same game as your buddy, most of the time even same team.

Just finished that event 3rd time without getting knocked off (not even to the air jump thingy…) and no achievement.
This is just…. I dont know… why is it that anet cant release achievements that are NOT bugged in any way?
Unbalanced builds, ridiculous maps where players have to combat map terrain & mechanic more than other players, bad matchmaking, no substituting afks (if that one guy on your team is afk… its a 99% win for the other team), no substituting rage quitters or dc’ers.
All in all, spvp in gw2 is like playing closed beta warhammer online.
If you love pvp, dont play gw2. You will learn to hate it. Rather wait, maybe…. maybe anet will get their kitten together at one point and actually start thinking rather than just inventing new ways to annoy their playerbase.
How about they allow someone else to join for the person that quit the game? And the one that quit the game gets 15min “not able to play arena games” timer.
Thats about what other games did, and it was just way better than the situation is right now in gw2.
But then, other games didnt add stupid maps like skyhammer on a permanent basis to competitive arenas either… so I guess, nothing will change, gw2 spvp will slowly die.

The thing that really annoys me, is that anet really thinks that skyhammer is such a NICE map, so competitive HAHAHA.
And that they think engineer needs more love in spvp.

Btw, thats footage from one hour skyhammer… and it was after “skyhammer balance patch” that was meant to fix things… didnt really work out so well… and against popular believe… I didnt have any fun playing this, it was boring as hell. No skill required.

Take side points… any way you position yourself there… a mesmer can pull you down every single time… you can choose between abandoning your point or dieing to falling dmg. And thats only if you are trying to defend.
Skyhammer’s map mechanics blatantly favours certain classes with certain builds. The only way to counter that is by stacking up on stability and immunity.
For most, that’s NOT a fun way to play, but rather just frustratingly annoying. And most player dont like having a certain playstyle forced upon them.
And then there’s those pesky bugs, like knocking someone on jump pad → knocked back person dies to falling dmg or lands somewhere really strange. Knocking people up a slope etc.
People not dieing when knocked down and then being stuck there thanks to worms doing minimal dmg against high tou builds.

So to clarify the thought behind:
1. Must be able to be hot join-able
One thing we really want to do is promote and grow the player base. Now, what does that mean? When a new player (either to PvP or to the game) joins PvP for the first time they go to custom arenas to play and learn the game in a less competitive environment. We want those players to retain and work their way up to the competitive game modes: Solo or Team queue. So the meaning behind that statement is that the game mode must work for both casual and competitive environments to help grow the community.
Tbh, this is not really how it works. I see a lot of beginners stumbling around in solo arenas, and I bet it would be the same with team arena if not for the fact that the queue takes forever solo.
Ever since you lifted the restrictions on tournaments (no more tickets needed), more and more new players start with arena instead of hotjoin games. Resulting in a lot of friction. This then results in new players quitting spvp after one or two tries and old players quitting because of… well.. exactly the same and some more.
If you really would want new players to start with hotjoins, you should restrict access again. Or you could finally implement a matchmaking system that doesnt put new players against or with spvp pros.
More complicated game modes could be easily implemented as a new kind of spvp arena, maybe including some kind of dummy arena to test it with explanations (mandatory tutorial). The way spvp is atm, its quite unimaginatively solved.
You are constantly saying that you want to attract new players, but then you leave it to the community to educate those new players, but the community is quite honestly, fed up with that.
If you want to keep old players, you HAVE to add new and more complicated game modes. But with the current system you CANT add them, because new players will destroy any kind of enjoyment old players could get out of those. Imo that’s exactly the kind of conundrum you have to solve, asap, or you will continue loosing players, until spvp in gw2 looks like FA in gw1 nowadays.
Any competitive activity will have people with competitive attitudes. It is entertaining to see someone complaining about being insulted on the internet call all the people insulting him basement dweller’s who depend on their mom for cold cereal. You are a beacon of maturity.
Perhaps you and I have a different view of what constitutes a ‘competitive attitude’. I’ll open myself up to healthy and constructive criticism and competition all day. But if having a ‘competitive attitude’ also includes verbal abuse, rage quitting, name calling, quitting, and general kittenbaggery — well, then, ya got me! I guess I’m anti-competition.
Also, the initial post was a light-hearted joke playing on a well-known trope. I think most of the people responding in this read took it that way. That said, even if you thought it was insulting, I assure you, it’s a delicious helping of strawberry shortcake compared to the kitten sandwich of toxicity that I’ve seen in-game. Besides, I doubt all the creeps on the internet live in their mom’s basement. I’m sure plenty live in the attic. Oh, kitten, slipped again. Hard it is to live up to my status as a beacon of maturity.

Im all for new builds, as long as the person knows how to play it, but with some people its like they make a build and then they queue for solo arena to test it… and then they are surprised and hurt when someone tells them that they are bad and should just go log off.
And btw, Im playing spvp not to meet nice people and to have nice chats, I can do that in rl way more easily. It’s competitive. And competitive and carebear just dont mix. Never have, never will.
Either you are competitive, resulting in aggressive behaviour, or you are a carebear resulting in benign behaviour. No middle ground.

HA, yes… I agree… skyhammer is like waking up and realizing its monday again.
As I see it they have three options to make this map “competitive”:
a) remove skyhammer from solo arena queue and re-make it to a spvp minigame (with a set skill set for everyone including a pull, a kick, stability, swiftness, dmg skill)
b) place the whole map underwater
c) add skyhammer to team arena queue
No, Im not joking with the last one. Either commit fully to this (in my opinion totally kittened) map, or drop it.
But trapping – and thats exactly what they do by adding it to solo queue – people into that map, basically FORCING solo aren’ers to play that map until they admit its fine (which we NEVER will do, just give it up). That’s just bad bad bad treatment of paying customers.
For those that want to enjoy skyhammer, add some hotjoin servers with skyhammer only map rotation. Make them rated if you want them to count for something.
And btw, solo arena is 50% luck and 50% skill. Team arena is… guess what… exactly the same You have meta builds in both solo arena and team arena, and sorry, but the amount of communication needed in gw2 spvp is so minimal, you can do it via ig tools, you dont need voip like with other more complex pvp games.
With a necro you always have to decide between survivability and damage. The closest you can get to having both is with a death magic build, but still, you are going to be hampered by the long casttimes the long after-effect of nearly every necro skill.
Literally no infight-mobility. Very reliant on boons from others. Dmg is meh, you have to go the full nine yards, leaving you open like a barn door in the survivability compartment. But then you dont have escape abilities like a thief or a mesmer, making you a sitting duck, worse than any berserker ele.
And lets face it… everything a necro can do, other professions can do just a bit better and more importantly, so much easier. I have to play at 100% every single fight, no slacking allowed, because if I slack, Im dead. Thats not the case with any other profession.
I love this profession, Ive been playing nearly exclusively necro in spvp and wvw, but Im at the end of my patience, waiting for any kind of even basic system behind those changes. Every change results in necro being … just less.
The crit-dmg-nerf has hit necros in wvw so hard, I lost about 30% of my dmg. Now with a complete new build I regained about 20% of that, but Im totally depended on boons from others now.
People are crying about the terrormancer, Ive been playing terrormancer in one form or another in spvp ever since I discovered it, and it was way way way better before changes.
Those new gm traits? Useless in wvw, only gimmicks in spvp. I wouldnt base a build on them. Curse gm trait is something you can incorporate into a condimancer build, but for other builds theres just other choices that are way better.
And if you are limited to picking 5 professions, its not really any wonder to me, that necromancer doesnt make it on that list.

Havent noticed anything like that, and Im playing terrormancer… always watching very closely dmg ticks. Nightmare can proc of everything and I noticed that the duration seems to vary by a lot… sometimes its only 1 sec, other times its 4 sec… but terror dmg itself ticks once every second for me only.
Those NPCs are insane ^^ The mesmer one finishes ME when he is in downstate… instead of him getting finished by me :/ and the necro dagger 2 hits for ~12k

Actually, you need good players too. Players that understand simple concepts like how to keep up 25 stacks of might, when to use what skills, how to use ele weapons, when to dodge, how to keep up a stability rotation, what food to use best, what extra buffs to get…
So no, coordination on its own doesnt give you kitten. You can coordinate all day long if you have only players that cant dodge and only autoattack on your overflow.
Exactly Ardenwolfe. Im even getting tired of the achievement points rush… Whereas it was fun in the beginning, now every two weeks I open achievement tab, skip to living story, starting reading… and think “awww… not again that crap”.
Most of the time living story achievements actually work AGAINST a smoothly running event. Best example right now. To get those two pesky achievement, you have to essentially either full afk leech, or, risk not getting it and be only half the time efficient – tops.
You cant really be angry with those that are just standing in a corner, because the real reason for that behaviour is Arenanets kittenty achievements.
One would think after more than a year, they would have figured out that achievements have to further contribution, and not work against it.
That “bug fix” yesterday is even more of a joke, because without a visible counter, people are just standing were the biggest zerg is, no matter what.
They should have added a player counter to the event area, making it easy to see the reason for spreading out to different knights.
But no. That would have been too much work….
And in addition to that, they broke the event display.

Or you can do same as we do in the breachmaker. In my server we spawn on purpose the 6 little blue scarlet holograms, we drag them near the door, make them kill the afkers and lose the achievements and we have a good laugh on teamspeak.
Leechers are not something that we like.

So much hate… and why? Because of broken and not well thought out achievements.
Just left an overflow because people started “discussing” the order of Knight-kills which ended in severe name calling and people reporting others.
Here’s a list of things that are just totally wrong with this living story content:
1. Achievements that encourage people to just stand in a safe spot and afk
2. Achievement text not clearly formulated, a la missing additional requirements for getting an achievement like not getting downed
3. Achievements that are just plainly bugged and only work if you abuse another bug
4. Obscure and unfair loot distribution
5. Starting boss fight with getting downed because there is no invulnerability timer after port
6. No purge of main server, resulting in people afk-botting to not get kicked
Feel free to add to it…
All those things are causing a lot of tension between players, a lot of frustration, name calling, hate… everything negative you usually shouldnt want to have in your community because it causes players to quit the game.
Fix it, asap, and dont make the same mistakes again. But wait… some of those things are actually things you were told before, but did again… so I guess there’s no hope left for GW2.
6 tries, 3 times absolutely sure I did everything required including not getting downed or killed or ooc, still no achievement.
Did 6 runs today, out of those Im absolutely certain I didnt hit anything with the wrong attunement for 3 runs AND contributed a lot.
No “in tune” achievement.
Others stand afk at the door and get the achievement. This is kittening ridiculous.
Also not getting any loot, have tried just about everything to increase dmg, including fire elementals, pet whistle, mortars, fgs, icebow, buffs, food, grouping up.
I did get loot before I switched from overflow to mainserver but ever since – nada. And as an elementalist, I do tons of dmg.
