It’s funny because the gear grind here is worse than it is in WoW.

Really then you did not play the same WoW that I did. Because although how much I loved running a raid once a week for an entire year for the hopes that it dropped the piece of equipment that I need was ‘fun’. /sarcasm

OP. Sounds like the game might just not be for you. This is a separate game from GW1, it is not an updated version of it. Take a break and maybe in a few months you will want to come back. If not good luck with what ever game you choose.

Interesting, I hadn’t considered using the 3 of 5 system there. Do you think that would really force groups to fight it out or would people just turtle up to prevent capture?

I was just about to suggest this after reading through the last few pages. I really like the idea of capturing 3 of the 5 points. If people did turtle and only hold 3, they would still need to be able to coordinate to be able to hold these three. This would also allow the enemy to group up and try to push the last spot, while leaving a few at the other two to be sure it did not recap.

Something else that might be interesting is to setup small capture points around the main capture points. These small locations could be used to spawn vets that help the team that owns the location. One thing to think about if have lets say 5 mini cap spots would become to OP for the team that holds the keep currently. Maybe have it so these spawn points only appear once 2 of the capture points have been taken. That way they will only become available after 2 have been taken. If one group regains all locations the mini location along with the mobs should disappear. Setting things back up before 2 of the points were taken. I think having these mini location could enable groups send off a few people to try and capture and have increased help either taking the points or holding the points.

What is about the speed of the sickle ? Is it normal speed or faster like the Consortium Sickle ?

Btw.: I wonder that there was no massive uproar about the P2W factor of the speed of that sickle.

You can’t have P2W when an item can be purchased with in-game gold. P2W would mean an item is blocked by a money gate, that you must use real world money to purchase. Since every item in the gem store can be purchased with in game gold. There is no item that is P2W.

Huge feature build: what to expect?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zypher.7609

Zypher.7609

There will not be much mention of the feature build until the living story is over. If A-Net started the hype now, no one would be paying attention to the end of the LS. That is why things have been relatively quiet. Give it 2-3 weeks after the 4th of March. Then they will start to release information on what comes next. This is typical marketing no reason talking about the next big thing until the first big thing is over.

Can someone please give me a convincing argument why this Atlas was created? I’d be really thankful, as I can’t really find anything ‘useful’ or ‘interesting’, or ‘entertaining’ about it. At the same time, the time they may have speant on making it could be devoted to… let’s say… a new dungeon.
I mean, I understand and accept that some people that in some mystical way could be very pleased to see something like this Atlas, but I can’t.

Using this reasoning, for the amount of time this person complains on the forums. Why is he/she not out saving lives or doing something that is actually beneficial to the world. Can some one please give me a convincing argument why this is not happening?

On the happy note, this is awesome. Can’t wait for each release when new dots get added. This is definitely a great step for current and new players to check out what has been going on in the living world.

And you are the reason that zones are not getting to 1500 citizens saved. You may consider not fighting a boss to be easy combat, but until you show an image of over 1500 saved then you are not playing the event correctly. It is your choice to midlessly zerg and press one, so it is also your choice that you are failing at achieving the highest reward/beating the event.

Yes. As if individual skilled mattered in large scale zerging.
Remember the marionette fight? Remember 4/5, Bearbows and other not so good players failing the event?

Exactly. These events are too large scaled for a single individual to make any change. I’ve tried the events quite a few times with good builds to contribute, but in the end it doesn’t matter since there are hunderds of other players autoattacking.

And this is why we have zergs, get 15 people that think individual contribution wont matter, so they stack on a commander and press 1. What is funny is that you bash on zergs, but then contribute to the problem causing a zerg. gg.

[Proposal] Increase # of Skills.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zypher.7609

Zypher.7609

A proposal should try to not reference another game in making a statement for why something is needed in this game. Because X has this then Y needs it. Would be a better proposal if you left out the GW1 part, and showed why playing GW2 it needs what the proposal is stating.

Your proposal makes a very valid point but you should edit it to not have base the statement on that GW1 had it and it worked so GW2 needs it. GW2 is a different game that just happens to share the lore with GW1, should be treated as such. Saying something like how GW2 having more skills would provide more build opportunities which would lead to characters feeling different compared to others would be a great point.

Just a thought, either way choice is yours on if you want to reword the proposal. I fully support more weapons/skills.

[Brainstorming] Getting Away From PU

in Mesmer

Posted by: Zypher.7609

Zypher.7609

PU will ultimatively have to be changed considering its dominance when it comes to roaming. I think it is important to point out that PU is strongest in condition builds. It is a lot weaker in power build. Main reasons probably are that conditions still deal damage while stealthed and that you can run Rabid gear. When PU gets nerfed – which it probably should – people need to keep in mind power builds.

[Edit] Bad math

Must say its obvious your whole post is based on your experience and mainly come from sPvP. In wvwvw power PU as a roaming tool is in my opinion even stronger than condition as the enemy often chose to not fight you while in the smal room of sPvP it’s easier to force a fight. Also the introduction of accented gear, and especially weeps let power PU deal EXTREMLY good dmg, it’s possible to have well ower 2600 power with good crit, toughness etc by use food, gear, stacks etc.

So to say condition PU is stronger than power is in my opinion a misunderstanding. Only in wvwvw duels vs Elementalists I would agree in this, but then PU power is not a duel build, ins a roaming build mainly.

When you say PU need 2 be changed due to its dominance for roaming you can not only go for changes and nerds to PU, you HAVE to look at alternative roaming builds/setups aswell. Atm no other build give tools to handle a gank party going for you in open wvwvwv if it’s a team of thiefs and warriors.

A roaming thief can always stealth and poff away. A warrior roaming tun into Mr Bolt and run etc, mesmers main tool atm is stealth, boons and blink.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zypher.7609

Zypher.7609

If you quit because of those reasons, then no, I don’t think you’d want to come back.

I don’t think GW2 is made for you.

Ironic. When the release date was announced and after all of the hype and interviews and demos and ’cons…the game looked like the perfect game for me. Told my RL gaming buddies that this one is made for someone like me where I can put the game down at any time and not miss anything or lose “power”(I am way behind in ascended), playing in the open world just because and feel good and rewarded by it(not so much)…etc.

But you may be right, it may not be the game for me. Had LS never entered the game, I might not be as bitter these days. The game changes too much and if you take any time off you miss out.

I have taken breaks from time to time, missed a couple LS events. Do I feel any different, that the game did not wait on me to return from my break? Not really, having 2 week updates keeps things fresh, even if you happen to burn through them in 4-5 hours. This is what was promised before release, an ever changing world. They wanted to change the way an MMO is handled, some may not take to that change at all. This may be the case with you, or it may not. But really you are already talking yourself out of playing just from a few comments on the forums. Just log off forums and play the game for a while.

Zypher.7609

I came back yesterday to check out the new update since it seemed like destroying LA would make for a cool update.
Nope it’s basically the same as it has been; do the event once in an overflow, fail and then just do it again 10 minutes later. Grind up a bunch of stuff to make a glowy backpack and that’s about it. Oh but this time if you’re not close to an exit when the event fails it auto kills you…yay?

So I’d say jump back on and run the event once, it’s fun the first time but loses its luster after that.

See my comment above, here is an example. Displeased with game, so comes on forums to express displeasure with game. This is not a bad thing since forums are where you can go to state what you dislike.

But again you will not get a proper response, best bet is to go into the game and just talk with people there. Because people enjoying the game, are usually the ones playing the game. Not taking up their playing time by coming on the forums to post about how much they enjoy the game. Or come on to try and argue with the people that dislike the game trying to get them to like the game. Play time is a limited quantity I try to use mine to actually play. I really enjoy the new patch that came out, and patiently waiting for work to be finished so I can get back into LA, to save those citizens.

GW2 is not and won’t be GW1 with revamped graphics.

It’s a shame, because a continuation of GW’s game type and style A) was what a lot of people expected, B ) was what a lot of people wanted, C) was what would have kept GW veterans happy in the sequel, and D) would have given GW2 a similar staying power (which I just don’t see in its current form).

Oh well…too late now. ANet made their decisions. I’ll just be very surprised if GW2 ever reaches the kind of dedicated fan base that GW has.

Same as the royal terrace, the game needs to know you have a pass. There is not a mechanism that searches your inventory for certain items when you log in. So to be sure that you didn’t use a one time pass and just want to stay in the zone. It kicks you out of the zone, but since you have a permanent pass can just double click it and be back in the zone.

I saw no story at all with this update. Is there an instance somewhere that I am missing?

I also enjoy that by the time you finish the one event you have about 10 minutes to sell your stuff clean out your bags and get ready to save LA.

So... how do you maximize citizens saved?

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Zypher.7609

Zypher.7609

Main i believe is bugged and does not reset at 0 at the beginning of the event. In other words, you start off with the same amount from the previous attempt.

Theres another thread about this. If its true, thats really unfair. Those lucky enough to get into their servers main instance are unfairly rewarded. Unless it is only counting those saved in that time frame (ie. difference in ending number from starting number, and not from zero).

The rewards only went up to 2k. We did receive the large reward for that milestone, but anything over that does not award anything. On one run we did very well and were able to save 1.1k. Although after that main got sloppy and we were only saving about 200-400. But that happened after people noticed that you do not get any rewards past the 2k so a bunch of people I know were trying to get into overflows.

Why exactly is this a problem? You think Anet is going to constantly adjust the mats required due to current prices?

Let’s say Damask becomes cheap and Elonian becomes the most expensive in the game.

You think Anet would reverse the recipes then? When should they be reversed? By how much? It opens a pandora’s box.

Just suck it up and be efficient. Use Elonian Square if you are so paranoid about gold.

Was going to post the same exact thing. Perfectly worded, crazy to think people want recipe requirements to be based off from current market prices.

It’s a zerg fest if you never want to get the top rewards. This event requires people to be spread out in key locations for things to fall into place. But when something new like this happens most people just stack on a commander tag and follow the train around. Without having at least 7-10 groups spread out across the map there is no way that you would be able to get the top rewards. Give it a few more days and hopefully people will start to figure it out.

Coming on the forums and screaming zerg fest just because you do not want to take the time to figure out how to maximize the event. Then that is part of the problem contributing to people zerging.

-50 new PvE only skills including 3 elite skills
-10 new heroes

I guess it all depends on who looks at it, I believe the world changes and zone changes that have been added to the game amount for an expansions worth of content. There have been new zones that opened up for the living story, just because it did not stick around. Which even if it did people would still only play it for a few weeks then be done waiting for the next thing. I really dislike the old model of how expansions were handled, and look forward to how A-Net is handling it. I do not need a new class/race to feel that they released an expansions worth of content. Or a new zone that is added that i visit once beat all the vistas and hearts and then never go back until I create a new character, or kill a champ in the zone.

I am not in favor at all of an expansion. I do not want to wait 1-1.5 years for a large release of content, that GW2 has given me in small doses every 2 weeks for the last 7 months. If you look at the large picture you can get expansion worth of content without the expansion. No idea why people want to wait 1-1.5 year for a large release of stuff, that they will beat in 2 weeks and then be waiting another 1-1.5 years for the next one.

I look forward to the bi-weekly updates. And to the expansion worth of content that will come out of them. Yes if you add up 1-1.5 years worth of bi-weekly content you will indeed hit the amount of content that is in an expansion.

If you’ve got a nicer graphics card or even two weaker cards in sli crossfire its a decent visual improvement that won’t cause much of a hit at all. (1frame in my instance) since its more likely you are cpu bound anyway. If you find a significant frame drop after everything finishes reloading though with it may not be worth it. I keep everything as high as i can and make up for lost frames with model quality / quantity settings.

This is the same thing I do, I usually keep the quality/quantity at High. Then all my other settings are maxed. In heavy WvW or open world bosses like Teq I get about 25-35 fps. Normal game play I am running at 75-100fps.

Apparently, it’s a pretty big DDoS attack, and it’kittenting more than just GW2. There’s posts with more info in the bugs and tech parts of the forums, but that’s the basics of it.

There’s not much they can do about the attacks, but it would be nice if they would say SOMETHING. A nice red name post to draw everyone’s attention and tell people what’s happening.

All they are going to be able to say is that they are aware of the situation and are working on a fix. To come out and say <insert DDOS group name> name they are giving notice to the people that want to be noticed.
